Kimberly Proctor's badly burned body was found on March 19th. Police have identified suspects in her murder. Police need the cooperation of people in her inner circle to reveal more information to them about this crime.

Kimberly was supposed to show up for a babysitting job in March and she did not arrive. Her burned body was discovered the next day, alongside of a hiking trail.

Ms. Proctor’s body was found less than 48 hours after her parents reported her missing. She was last seen at a bus interchange.

“It wasn’t random,” said Corporal Darren Langan, speaking for the Island District RCMP. “[The suspects] were familiar with Kimberly. We don’t quite know what their motives were. We’re working on fully understanding their motives.”

That Ms. Proctor knew her killers was what put her in danger, Cpl. Langan said. “That familiar relationship is what put Kimberly in the position she was put in,” he said.

Cpl. Langan said he could not disclose how many suspects the police have or how they knew Ms. Proctor, who lived in Langford with her parents and brother.

“Knowing who those suspects are and having those suspects in our sights, we are doing what needs to be done to ensure public safety,” he said. “We can’t tell you specifically what we are doing because they are suspects at this point, and we’re still building our case against them.”

More details in this case. Not sure if the main suspect would be her ex-boyfriend who she described as a 'psycho' with 'anger issues'. It seems that there are at least a few people who knew Kimberly who have yet to speak to police with vital information in this case. Police have released the fact that they have suspects but there have been no arrests as of yet. This must be a ploy to get people to start talking and I hope they do. I believe that the people involved were likely the same young age as her (18-ish) and this youth violence and 'no snitching' mentality needs to stop. JMO

Victoria-area Mounties say they are closing in on suspects they believe targeted and murdered a teenaged girl in a crime so sinister police say once the details become public, the community will be permanently scarred.

The home being searched by police is near Glen Lake, which was the subject of a search by police divers in late March.

Lagan said the Mounties probing Proctor’s murder have identified suspects, but no one has been arrested.

“Our goal today with putting the information out is telling (the community) that we have suspects, and we know now that this was not a random attack,” he said. “Kimberly’s attackers were familiar with her.”

He said 40 investigators are focused on the suspects, but police need the individuals with information to come forward.

“We’re making an appeal today to some very specific individuals in the community,” Lagan said.

“Those individuals know who they are. They are familiar with the suspects and they are familiar with what happened to Kimberly.”

Lagan said Proctor knew the suspects, although he wouldn’t say if they were classmates or reveal their ages.

“The best I can say is she was familiar with them and vice-versa,” he said.

Police earlier said Proctor’s social networking activity and the on-line posts of her friends and others led to a series of fits and starts in the investigation.

Proctor’s Facebook page included a March 6 posting about her relationship with an unnamed boyfriend that she recently ended.

Proctor wrote she had to “dump him (because) he turned out to be psycho with really bad anger issues.”

She also participated in the international Goth website vampirefreaks.com where she discussed being bullied by teenage girls.

Lagan said police examined those communications by Proctor and other people and some statements made there turned out to be false.

Kimberly was linked to the goth subculture and 'felt like a outcast' because of this. Apparently she was being bullied for years and 'was afraid of other girls'. I'm not sure if this is at all related to the crime of her murder. JMO

As a high school teacher, I hope that if any teens out there read this, that you should always tell an adult you trust (like a parent or teacher) if you are being bullied on the internet or face-to-face.

I just feel so sorry for all of those young kids who silently suffer with this bullying BS. It just makes me furious! My heart breaks for all of these young people who hurt so badly just because they are being who they are. This is so terribly cruel.

I just found out the news of the arrests and it's about time. Two teens arrested for what is deemed to be PREMEDITATED MURDER of a young beautiful girl.

On Saturday, RCMP Insp. Mark Fisher announced that two male teens, aged 16 and 18, were arrested without incident on Friday and now face charges of first-degree murder. The teens cannot be identified because both were under 18 at the time of Proctor's killing.

The 16-year-old was charged with first-degree murder, forcible confinement, sexual assault and indignity to human remains. He is expected to make his first court appearance in Victoria on Monday morning.

This poor girl. It is just to horrible for words. I just have a hard time understanding what has happened to a lot of teens in this day and age. So many of them murder or cause pain to others and think they have the right to do that....they are the bullys. What had this girl done that was so horrible? Those boys probably didn't even know this girl. I wonder if they did it for their girl friends? It's just hard to understand how kids can be so cruel to a peer. Where do they get off anyway!

I hope they all are sentenced to prison for the rest of their lives.

This may upset some people but I would like to know what kind of parents the boys have. Were they taught not to pick on others as they grew up? Were the parents active in the lives of these kids....were they held responsible for their own actions and behavior? I have a hard time believing that the three came from decent homes. Even single parents have options if a kid becomes out of control.

OMG, just read up on this case and the two teenagers who cannot be named here (although their names are all over the internet) plead GUILTY so that their numerous friends who knew about what they did to Kimberly would not be summoned to testify in court. These guys gave it up to help their friends who didn't rat them out. I HATE them and this no snitching mentality.

These two boys posted on an online game called World of Warcraft about the killing. These two boys communicated with each other through MSN. They lured Kimberly and raped her for hours after they stuffed a sock down her throat. They brought her stabbed body on the public transit bus to the area where they dumped her body and lit her on fire. They are sadistic fiends and will likely be out of jail unsupervised in a short while. I doubt they will ever be rehabilitated. One of the boy's father murdered a young teen girl in a similar fashion as he did. UNBELIEVABLE. The Canadian legal system sucks and protects young offenders like this too often, these two are demented. Many main stream media have released articles demanding the death penalty (which I oppose). I'm reeling from all of this.

Later that night, over a period of about three hours, the 18-year-old sent text messages to another female high school student with whom he'd had a sexual relationship, trying to convince her to sneak out of her house and join him at the 16-year-old's house. I checked and I can't find the reference to one of the killers' fathers also murdering a teen years back. Can someone direct me to that information. I might have missed it.

This reminds me so much of Zachary Irwin's murder in East St. Louis this last June. He was a young man who'd just arrived in the city who was raped, bound, shot, dismembered and set on fire by Dennis Iagulli and James Pierson. There is a tiny bit of information in the archives that Iagulli's father also was involved in a ritual killing back in the 80s. I get very upset when the real motive and the amount of premeditation behind a murder is not thoroughly considered. I hope the Canadian authorities are doing just that.

I've seen the mention of the WoW playing but I haven't seen anything about why these boys chose to murder so viciously. Does anyone know if they were dabbling with satanic dates? The murder date is only 1-2 days off from a "high" date. Anyone with access to the internet can learn that fact.

Zachary's murder was most likely connected to a date. And so was Elyse Pahler's of California. You'll find even more on the thread I started concerning the Russian teens who murdered their classmates. Police said during their investigation that they believed some of the students at the small alternative school Proctor and her killers attended were withholding information. What persuaded these young people to remain silent will never be known. When the young men pleaded guilty they stopped the case from going to trial and spared their peers from making the rounds on the witness bench.

Surely the people who could have gone to police when they learned what the teens were planning or later when they bragged about what they had done, are now living with a guilty conscious. Graciously, police were able to solve the case without their help.

Thank you, matou. I did read Lady L's posts and made it most of the way through Topix. Topix typically fries my poor little brain cells as there's so much vitriol. Suffice it to say that these two boys were bright and yet committed evil. It seems as if their parents are protecting them and minimizing their crimes.

I'm appalled that the school seems to have "shut down" to self-protect. That is shameful. The principal of the school where our children were raped did something similar. He warned teachers not to speak of our children's abuse--not to speak to other parents, the students or the media....just move on. The local media had to push the issue so that other families could be alerted. It saddens me that some want everything to seem peachy keen when the sky is actually falling. Children come first!! Always!!

After reading everything I can find, I don't know what to think. These two boys don't call themselves satanists. But exactly what is a nihilistic atheist? Possibly a satanist? Does it really matter, though? Jae Williams and Randy Thompson of South San Jose, CA did call themselves satanists and plotted to kill their friend. They really had no better plan that the two Canadian youths.

Parents do come home, families do look for their children, citizens do check up on burning or stabbed or dismembered bodies. I think, if the truth be known, that "dabbling" is far more than traditional satanism. It's really earned its own "chapter heading". It is a total disregard for the dignity of human (and often animal) life. It is the celebration of self-gratification. It is the revelation of evil.

It's very interesting and tragic to me that the crimes never change. The acts of sexualized violence against the victims don't change. Society just keeps shaking its collective head and moves on.

Thank you. I was just checking to see if the teen might have been vulnerable in other ways, such as a developmental disability or other mitigating factor. That seems to be a common component. Trusting the boys would certainly make her more vulnerable. People truly don't expect someone they've loved to hurt them.

I just noticed that the San Luis Obispo, CA newspaper has written an article about the satanic ritual murder of Elyse Pahler. I have a suspicion that there are many similarities to Kimberley's murder:

Fifteen year old Elyse also knew her killers (aged 14, 15, and 16) and left her house with the promise of drugs. She was killed because she was a virgin and her ritual death was thought to be the "perfect sacrifice" in exchange for better skills at guitar playing. One boy finally confessed as more murders were being planned and he felt that the others might turn on him.

It's quite creepy that this article was updated on September 13, 2010 because only 10 days later, Dystiny Myers was murdered and her body set on fire under very strange circumstances only 10 miles away. Dystiny was 15. I've actually worried that Dystiny's five killers read that article.

I get very tired of those who say that young people are dabbling or are "pretending to be satanists". A dead girl is a dead girl. Evil is evil. Luring, murdering, raping, and desecration of bodies in a ritualistic manner is beyond the pale for me.

Sentencing hearing on March 28th. This will take about two weeks and we'll all find out if the perps will be tried as young offenders or as adults.

Thanks Luckyducky, these boys are evil. How dare they think they are above the law at only 16-17 years old. They clearly know what rape is since they were fantasizing about it even though the older boy was dating a girl at the time of the murder. From the above link- how can 2 young men (boys really) become so demented. I hope that they get help even though the report says there is little hope of rehabilitation. That being the case they should never be let out of prison to reoffend. Really scary - Canada needs to change some laws - and fast.

I can't believe their names aren't allowed to be public. Everyone already knows who they are anyway. I suppose it's to protect their families. I know that many people are pizzed with the parents and siblings of these guys. I'm upset with the dumb girlfriends who blindly accepted their acts as 'stupid mistakes'. Unbelievable. I have to wonder if Kimberly didn't take their bait as such an easy target, whether it just would have been the girlfriend(s) instead.

Happy to hear about the psychological assessments. I guess the chances of two sexual deviants being such good friends is getting higher and higher these days.

Too late to edit my previous post. I meant to say Mr. Wellwood.

In the meantime I came across a disturbing connection to another murder. KW's father was convicted of the murder of Cherish Oppenheim, but in an eerie irony (or not), her sister, Darci Drefko, had been sexually attacked and murdered two years prior. Another man is serving a life sentence for that. Is it possible that KW's father was really responsible for that murder too? Or is it that the entire extended family was completely out of control? All speculation on my part.

I have to say that I am always in awe of those LE behavioural 'closers' who interview the suspects. I haven't watched very much of the clips posted by the Vancouver Sun in this case yet, but I would say that this interviewer, as good as he is, isn't quite as good as the behavioural interviewer in the Russell Williams case a few months back. (Although that would seem to me to be an incredibly high bar to top.)

What small part that I have watched so far (part of part 4 -- I am struck by how light an incident CM makes of raping Kimberly while she was in a very vulnerable, confined state. Very upsetting. I'm not sure I will watch much more, as it seems disrespectful of an innocent young woman.

Rest in peace Kimberly. No one can hurt you now. :cry:

It's not clear to me that this is a satanic or ritual murder.

These appear to be two psychopaths (and perhaps many satanic/ritualistic murderers are?) who were "simply" satisfying their sexual deviant desires. Yes, of course, and unfortunately, this is nothing new either. These cases are shocking every time though!

Also, this case is unusual in that one of the killers (and torturers!) is the son of a man who is currently serving a life sentence for rape/murder of a teen girl as well. Like father, like son? This raises the whole question of nature vs nurture. KW did not live with his father from a fairly young age and his father has been in prison since KW was 7 years old. Does this imply that KW has a genetic mental 'defect' that resulted in him being a psychopath?

And, what are the chances that two psychopaths (Kimberly's two killers) would know each other since public school? Is that "common"?

It's interesting as not all the cases I linked to originally were thought to be linked to the occult. I just think that's there's many similarities in all the cases. Both of these young men are obviously very ill and demented. Whether they state clearly that they were involved in the occult really doesn't matter to me. The crime is exactly the same. If you look up the definition of pseudo-satatism ("dabbling"...a awful word, IMO) and how it pertains to teens, these kids have it down pat. All that matters is that they get what they want, when they want it, and destroy anyone in "their path". I'm fairly certain that they're going to have a very tough time adjusting to prison life.

IME, conduct disorder (sociopathy) and sexual sadism have a strong component of narcissism. As does pseudo-satanism.....

As to the chances of two twisted individuals meeting up, if you'll check out some of the links above, each involves two or more attackers. That seems to be part of the thrill.

"Wellwood's girlfriend was just 14 when he told her that he had raped and killed 18-year-old Proctor and set her body on fire near a Vancouver Island walking trail on March 18, 2010.

In an interview with RCMP on Oct. 14, the girl told police that her then-16-year-old boyfriend confessed the brutal crime during a stroll together about a month after the brutal killing.

"He just says ‘I killed Kim,'" she said.

The girl, who cannot be named, offered few details about what she had learned, but said that Wellwood had "tortured" Proctor. She said that the boys strangled their victim and possibly broke her neck to finish her off; forensic evidence has revealed that Proctor actually died of asphyxiation.

"I was shocked the first time he told me," she told police, explaining why she hadn't asked more questions about the murder. But she admitted, "I still wanna be with him."

I knew by the time I was 10 or so that death was forever and that murder was the worst act that could be committed by one person against another. I do not buy into any excuse that a teenager does not know better, unless they are severely mentally disabled.

I hope they never get out of jail, but being Canada, of course they will. Canada is way too understanding and all about rehabilitating, which is great in theory but hardly ever works.

I knew that I had read somewhere about the sentence and that both these guys may never get out of jail as they are most likely to offend again. The last paragraph in the news article. Although they were sentenced as adults, Wellwood and Moffatt are eligible for parole after 10 years under provisions in the Youth Criminal Justice Act. However, a spokesperson for B.C.'s Criminal Justice Branch told The Canadian Press that there is no guarantee they will be granted parole and may very well remain jailed for life.

cluciano63--You and I might have known that death is forever by age 10 but I'm just not certain about teens now. There are over 1000 posts on that single Topix site and many many kids don't seem to fully grasp the enormity and finality of this murder. I realize that the murderers are sick sick guys but what causes their peers to be so clueless? I'm very curious.

Not too long ago, my 7 year old grandson asked me why I don't eat any meat and I explained that I didn't want animals to have to die to feed me. Even though he's a very bright boy with no television and a very evolved set of bright parents, you could tell that he'd never made that connection between the pretty cow or chicken and dinner. He even has backyard chickens but they are for eggs. He knows what free-range means. But it was the thought of death that he hadn't quite processed yet. I expect this to start occurring to 7 year olds--you step on the bug and it's dead. Your pet hamster dies and it's buried. Animals are killed to eat and so on.

But, I'm starting to think that this stage has been extended through the teen years somewhat. Is it just a natural societal process or is it due to media or to a distancing from death for most kids? I don't know.

I highly suggest the book, "The Primal Teen", for anyone wanting to understand the physiology of the teen brain. It's a fascinating book. I certainly hope that some psychologists are saving the Topix posts for further study and evaluation.

My opinion of the mom changed after hearing this short snippet of a phone conversation and the voice and manner in which he speaks is so beyond his age. He really is a freak. He is demeaning and insinuates that he would have killed his mother or is playing some real mind game with her. The fact that she doesn't hang up and just leave after the first few sentences is testament in my opinion that she truly loves him unconditionally, like a mom.

Regarding the mother/son dynamic....yes, it appears that Moffat's family has a more 'friendly' relationship with their son, but, that is not what I would be saying to my sons!!! I would be saying, " This was a sacred life that you took. It pains me that you don't feel remorse. We would feel incredible remorse if someone took you away from us.
