Wow, how sad. It sounds like she took this trip by herself which is risky in itself. I sure hope she is found safe and sound.

A father who gave his daughter a weekend trip to Las Vegas two weeks ago for her 28th birthday is now distraught because she seems to have vanished.

Kellie Cherie Phillips left for Las Vegas on Aug. 7. Her father, Willie Phillips, rented her a white Ford Focus for the trip as an early present for her Sept. 3 birthday. Although she didn't tell her family where she was staying, Kellie called her father on Monday, Aug. 9, to tell him she had safely reached her destination and would be returning from Nevada later that evening, according to her stepmother, Janie Phillips.

Her poor father. I remember my parents always being worried when I would take off for a road trip up the California coast by myself. I sure hope she is OK.

/"I don't know what's going on," said Mr. Phillips, who works at Glide Memorial Church, "She was going to meet somebody, it seemed like everything was all right."

Kellie Phillips moved in with her father and stepmother following her divorce a few years ago. Her ex-husband lives in Oakland and has custody of their two daughters, ages 2 and 6, and her mother lives in Utah. She was between jobs, according to her stepmother, and was planning to go back to college this fall.

Phillips, who also uses the last name Drake/

I pray that she is alive...something is strange with this case. If she was in an accident, or broke down...they would have found the car...who was she meeting? Someone she met on the net?

Five--
So true about the car. If she was meeting someone and IF it was someone from the internet (semi-stranger) then this does not look good at all. I just don't understand these types of stories. It's so scary to think that life can be normal one day then turned upside down the next. This is one that I will be following closely. I pray she is OK.

A 27-year-old Mission District woman who had been missing since Aug. 8 has been found with relatives in Southern California, San Francisco police said.

Kellie Cherie Phillips spoke to her parents Friday night to tell them she was safe, said Inspector Angela Martin of the missing-persons detail.

Phillips had been living with her parents at the time she got a rental car trip to Las Vegas as a birthday gift and then vanished, Martin said.

Police feared that a burned body found in Las Vegas might have been Phillips. They now consider the case closed. "Safe location has been accomplished, '' Martin said.

Yes, great news, but I can't help but wonder what she was thinking. Didn't she know that her parents were so worried about her?
