Actor Tom Bosley died at his home in Palm Springs at 4:00 am. after fighting a staph infection and battling lung cancer. He was 83.

I don't think so. The character's name was Bosley, but I think that was a different actor. I'm not certain, though - I have never seen it!

He was also a talented broadway actor. i remember that he starred in 'show boat' a few years back. RIP.
