Anyone have thoughts or local perspective as to areas in and around the Granite Falls area where someone would dump a body?

Looking for dump areas/pullouts/etc.

Or any other ideas!

I would say we should start with looking at the area. The Bakers lived there at one time didn't they?

I am done in, but I think tomorrow it woudl be a good idea to investigate the granite falls area as well as get the google maps as well as any local input from an granie falls or area locals.

NOw the real work begins.

sarx, maybe you could post that screenshot we took the other day? That might help give folks a visual on some areas. Also, the map we have of the Granite Falls area with the bluff-type area?
And re: searching- it's raining and chilly right now. Not the best, but not the worst either.
Thanks for the thread.

Also- I too am still wondering if there are any locals who can post general locations of dump sites, or sites where people might dump trash. Or sites where teens/young adults might 'party' out of sight of LE. TIA.

Another thought re: searching- abandonded buildings on properties in semi rural locations. Barns, sheds, etc. Those doing flyovers on google, keep an eye out in the Granite Falls as well as Christie Rd areas, and mark the coordinates. I'll create a radius around them- it has helped in MP's cases in the past. TIA.

Yes, the pond of of Christie Rd. near the radio tower was drained yesterday and turned up nothing (no car, no bone, nada).

I believe the pond has been drained.
From www2.wspa.com (News Channel 7)

<During their search, they even drained a pond, but did not recover anything in it, said Maj. Clyde Deal (http://www2.wspa.com/topics/types/person/tags/clyde-deal/) with the Hickory Police Department (http://www2.wspa.com/topics/types/organization/tags/hickory-police-department/).

I asked this several times yesterday, but never got a response (not one I saw anyway): were 2 ponds being drained yesterday? Someone posted a link to a MSM source that said LE was in the process of draining 2 ponds. I was only aware of the 1 pond near the radio tower. Can you, or anyone else, clarify this for me?

O/T Thank you SO much for starting the breaking news thread, Sarx! I've been looking for breaking news since I came here this morning and having no luck wading through the threads to find it.

2 ponds TOTAL have been drained. 1 yesterday and 1 a few weeks back. I don't think I am wrong on this, but who knows! I think they got this one wrong, again.

One of the local channels reported that 2 ponds had been drained/searched by LE. I think they meant 2 ponds total. The one they had searched previously back in the middle of October (near the Burke Co. work site) and the one yesterday.

There are so many places thick with woods and briars, or bodies of water, that I feel like it would be smarter to pull off the road and hike a bit (carrying bags :( ).

But these folks aren't smart. The remains could have been dumped from the road. I do think deer carcass dumping grounds are a great idea for that. Hopefully that's what they'll fnd today!! The area they are searching sounds perfect, and EB was familiar with it.

My father says he'd dump a body off a bridge into the water. Are there bridges y'all can think of who know the area? I'm up in the Triad, so I'm not familiar with the local details.

If this keeps up much longer, I'm going to interview neighbors where EB lived and ask about locations they know of nearby.

But I think they found the spot!! :)

This is my first post here and just wanted to say that I was impressed with the information and integrity of the site.

Regarding prosthetics, my daughter is an above knee amputee since 6 months old and not to throw anyone off but during times of illness, surgeries, growth spurts etc she would require anywhere from 4 - 10 new prothesis's a year....i simply cannoth fathom how this young girl had not had a new prosthetic in 2 years

tlcya

I too think they are in the right area. If the bone info comes back as not Zahra's then I will still be focused in the area of Christy Road, Burns Rd, Dudley Shoals, etc.

I feel really confident that she is somewhere along those stretches of road or the ones that connect them. Somewhere heavily wooded or brushy, sparsely populated, perhaps with a little or locally known pull in or dirt road. That is MOO

Well, I have a list I made of property owners in the area (public record) to see if anything would jump out.

One thing might have. I don't know how to put it and not start a rumor! OK: I, as a layperson, have looked at names of the property owners; there is a name that includes a previous surname of EB. It's a huge chunk of land in that area.

When the MSM says EB lived in that area a few years ago, did we ever figure out which address they meant?

Are they literally searching on land where EB used to live?

Of course, please delete if that goes too far!! I can't PM yet, so I can't PM a mod that I know of :)

Or pose your question in the specific thread called "questions and answers" and you will probably get a quick response.

I wish I could be there too! I think its a beautiful idea. Even if you don't physically get to do much, the show of love for another human, that you have never even met, is what it's all about. And to show her father and step mother that in all their effort to destroy Zahra, their actions have brought people together in awe of this beautiful girl.

nice map sunset, but i think the pond drain yesterday was right off christy road beside the tower. you could see the tower in the photographs.

it would be nice to know exactly where on the roads that the prosthesis was found, and the bone was found.

i have been studying this map for a couple of hours in google earth and that stretch where ekard pl turns off is secluded, with visibility in each direction. there are no houses that are in view. this would be particularly important if they were out at night.

Folks, if anyone is planning on going out to an active search area, my advice would be to notify the Sheriffs' dept prior to arriving. That way they can account for everyone and do not have to worry about you as well as all of the other searchers, as well as site contamination. They have a lot going on now and might very well appreciate the help- I would just notify first.

You should have a toolbar either on top of your screen or on the left side that lets you choose 'flags' (and colors for flags etc.) Scroll through your icons and you will probably find it. You should not have to download anything- it is a feature of google.

marking up a map is easier in google earth IMO, but can be done in google maps as well.
type in where you want to go
a sidebar should pop up
choose the option my maps
choose the option create a map
now you can title it, describe it as well as put pins on it.
if you need to add more just go back to your saved map and edit

Okay, anyhow, in google maps, I gave up on mapping the areas already searched as others far better at finding a GD pushpin have already done so back in the initial thread. I will just have to go find them and link them here.

I just flew around and checked out google earth. While doing so an area came to my attention that would seem to have the criteria I think LE need to be considering in their search efforts.

The first EB "assisted" search was taking place on Dudley and then moved to Christy. While checking out the most reasonable way for one to arrive from one to the other while being discreet and little seen as possible, I think it wise to consider Deal Mill. If you drove Duddley, then Burns, then onto Deal Mill Road, you would then find Christy where the prosthetic was located near Ekart Place.

Deal Mill, from what I can see has woods, it is sparsley populated, on the way to Christy where we know evidence was found and if you look at the area at 35.867282, -81.428174 is a stretch that is wooded, no lights that I can see, with a turn off dirt looking road that heads to the west northwest and seems to be a back road leading to a body of water.

lemme know if you can find it from those directions. I truly have given up on the embedding pretty pushpinned maps in my post for the night. Tomorrow, alas, is another day.

BBM: Yes. There are many that cross creeks, streams and rivers.

It's interesting about "Fullman". I didn't see that on the list of aliases from arrests--do we know where that comes from? And, of course, that was one of the versions of the London Dude's name. (Amber is quoted as having used that name as the person who sent EB the $10K.)

The name "Proctor" is the name of her son's father, to whom she wasn't married.

I wonder if the other names might be names of males to whom she was attached?

Just speculating.

From your 2nd link, there is a house up the street that has a ton of cars. From what we know about the supposed Monte Carlo, it was a model from the 1970's. They look very similar to a car that is in that house's backyard. I have attached a picture from Google Street View of that car. I'm not a car expert, so I'm NOT saying 100% that is a Monte Carlo, but MC's from that era look very similar.

Is there an actual chronological list of where AB and EB have lived from the time they came from Australia until the last address ?

http://www.wcnc.com/news/local/Investigators-pursue-hundreds-of-leads-in-Zahra-Baker-disappearance-105200489.html

Another tip came from a family friend, who claims Elisa Baker drove a 1970s model Monte Carlo. That friend says the car seemed to disappear the same time Zahra did.

We don't know if the leads are legitimate or not. Police aren't talking about them, only saying they're following up on everything.

This link is the article that I originally heard about the Monte Carlo. I haven't put much relevance into it, but I've always been willing to hear out theories, and help people with what they're looking for.

I don't think LE ever made a statement about the Monte Carlo, so the "family friend" is the only thing people are bouncing off of on this.

Thank you. I value your research into this possible Monte Carlo (is the idea behind it that Zarha might be in it, or it may contain evidence??)

I personally do not think that is the case, and feel it detracts from areas where actual evidence has been found- however, I am trying to come at this from a strictly LE-perspective and people tend to get excited when they hear 'tips' from neighbors or friends. On the other hand, maybe there's a Monte Carlo out there with evidence of Zahra in it- idk. Therefore, I suppose keep sleuthing the Monte Carlo.

For the record, the evidence found has been either on the ground (including woodpiles in that), in the home, and in the two vehicles known to be used by the Bakers.

I think it would be helpful to go back to the basics and think about what that tells us as to where Zahra might be.
JMO, of course. Thanks for all of your hard work- keep it up!

I've looked at the streetview of the car from both angles, and it sure looks like a Monte Carlo to me. (Bear in mind, I too am no car expert.)

If I recall correctly, another WSer said they thought the car was grey or primer grey, don't remember if they said where they got that info from...but thought I'd toss it out here in case that poster is reading here and can verify.

Not sure if this link will take you right to the area I'm looking at, but here goes:

Edit: okay, that didn't work at all. Grrrr.

The area is off of christy rd. near the intersection of Christy and Deal Mill. Looks to me like some sort of overlook area or something. It's just before the church, same side. I'd be very interested to see what this area looks like (especially looking down into the ravine) if any locals happen to be out and about taking pics.

Nope. But if you want to get a better look at the overlook(?) area near the church, it's right between Mv. Smith Ln and the church at the intersection.

ETA: You can get a much better, closer view if you do streetmap view and zoom in. Has a gravelly dirt drive, but leads to nothing that I can see. It's just a small hill that overlooks a ravine. (Looking at overhead view and zooming in) OH man...is that water I see, or a sink hole?!

Does that look like it could be a 4 door 1990 Camry in the picture with the Monte Carlo, the car under a grey tarp - some 2 blocks away from their previous address? OK, now I really am curious. Just going to speculate and ponder here. See Myzzy post this thread #143

If the registration tags were not legal . . . then Would AB & EB have parked their vehicles away from the family home to keep LE from recognizing the cars on the street directly in front of their home thus giving away their actual address to LE?

Didn't they both have outstanding warrants for various crimes they were accused of committing? If I had the cops out looking for me and I had altered tags on my car - I might want to hide my car down the block or somewhere not directly near my home. Any thoughts on these ideas?

Unless of course there is a specific spot, where there is a Monte Carlo that you think has some connection to EB/AB that needs to be searched. TYVM. Only thing I can add is that I've said many times that if the MC did exist, I'd bet it wasn't registered. And that I'm almost completely convinced that the grey tarp thing we saw LE taking into evidence was in fact, a car cover.

What's the name of that church?

Center Grove Baptist Church (maybe)
3234 Deal Mill Rd

http://www.ncgenweb.us/caldwell/churches.htm

I don't see a church on that list for Christy Rd.

ETA: Nope, I checked out the church website. It's not it. I'll keep looking.

Here's one on Christie Rd. But from streetview of sign I can tell if it's right.

Poovey's Chapel Baptist Church: Parsonage
3131 Christie Rd, Hudson, NC 28638-9204

I think we have a match

So...Poovey's Chapel Baptist Church is on Pine Mountain Drive? But Poovey's Chapel Parsonage is on Christie? Much be a large tract of land owned by the church, then. That's even more interesting.

It's not snowing here in Hickory or at the search sight. It's snowing in the mountains. That's a good 45 minutes to an hour from here if they are talking about the Ski Resorts. If they are talking about Maggie Valley it's a little further than that. It is cold and has drizzled a little but no snow in the search area thank goodness.

Well, so much for that not making it immediately here.... Let's not get too worked up yet, need to hear something from LE, this may be nothing more than a reporter needing a headline and a bunch of LE in a circle looking at a kitty skeleton for all we know. Until we hear otherwise, she is still missing and we need to continue on our map searching!

Sounds like they are reporting that "additional evidence" was found in the Christie Rd. area (mind you, that does not mean it is actually connected to her, just that it could be) and that they finished the day with a prayer circle. So the reporting goes anyways.

Not to be a spoilsport, but maybe a new thread for what should be done with the house? We are trying to limit the amount of filtering needing to be done.
(I agree btw, maybe a fund can be set up to help the city buy the land from the owner to turn it into a memorial park.)

Just wondering....since there is such a large search effort there now and so many people, would they not gather in a circle at the end of the day just to go over what they've done so far and what they have yet to do perhaps the next day?

Yes, a debriefing should happen at the end of every day and is generally held near the CC or mobile command van.

Not sure if this is the correct thread to put this in. I just continue to be so heartbroken over this. Zahra was such a shining ray of light that is so easy for all of us to see. Why couldn't her own family see what a gift she was? She brought happiness where ever she went. How could anyone snuff out that radiance? Did she outshine EB so much that she had to destroy her? I just don't know. Bless all of the children who are still suffering as Zahra no longer has to suffer.

This thread is geared toward thoughts/ideas/mappings/etc as to where Zahra might be located specifically using the information we already have from LE. Possible routes traveled, possible sites where someone might dispose of a body or evidence of a body or of evidence of a crime committed against Zahra.

I believe the 'breaking news thread' was merged with the daily media links thread, but not positive on that.
Hope this helps.

Usually the newslink thread is a good place to start each day. It is updated by devoted members daily. Sometimes if breaking news has to do with another specfic topic (such as the bio mom interview) it will show up as its own thread or within the thread it pertains to.

Overall, the news thread is where I like to start.

Ok so I have been lurking in here just trying to read and be most quiet due to alot going on with my family but there are some things that I have been really thinking about. I think that in regards to the pics of the house it was amazing how much they actually took from that house and in my opinion taking those pipes did not mean anything good. I makes my stomach turn over just thinking about all the things that have been thought about including but not limited to the "we really didn't kill her" I hope I have that right. Sorry if not. And what AB did after the fact was horrifying. I think that there is a lot of things that will come out but my belief is that she was dismembered in the tub. That they washed their hands int he sinks. And they needed the plumbing in order to prove it.

Anyway, if they had left that poor little angel just laying in that bed it was probably in order to find the area or areas that they were going to ditch her. In thinking and looking at these maps and all of the areas that I have no idea where any of it is, but still and all if they put her in different places then in all by all means there is a good chance that we will never find her completely. The animals could have gotten to her and if they did put her in the water then the fish could eat everything but bones I guess. I just keep looking at the maps and different views and just hope against all hope that they can find her. Also, I really hope that everyone understand where I am going with this. I think that I may have went off on a tangent.

What I was trying to say is that when LE found the bone I figured that they were lucky. There is so many places that she could be. I am so sorry for this little girl. I also feel so sorry for LE that they have had to go through all this in the search for this baby. I also wanted to say that we all have done a unbelievable job sleuthing. And I really love being a part of this.

Keep it all up and sorry for the extremely long post.

Ok this is the first time I have looked into all this sluething stuff so I am curious what do you guys do with the info when you get it ? Do you go look yourself? Or pass it on to an investigator or psychics? Or just to help with your personal theories?

Welcome to WS's Shay, and thanks for your insight! In answer to your question - sometimes all of the above. It depends on the situation. We generally discuss it until we feel it is a good lead. We don't like to pass things onto LE (Law Enforcement) unless it is really, really, important. The last thing they need is a bunch of false leads to chase down. There are times, however, when the information seems important enough that contact is made. I would always run that past a moderator first, just because it seems like the right thing to do. Hope that helps!

I know where you are talking about exactly....but I don't know anything about the overlook such as why its there or who uses it, neither does my family..... looks almost like it is used for construction workers or someone to park vehicles, pretty large open spot on google but tonight ( in the dark) riding through i never noticed it so I wonder if it is now grown up a lot.

If you look at the google maps overhead shots, it appears that if you pull in straight off the road and go forward, there is a ravine of some sort. Off to the right is either brush or trees and a small body of water. To the right of that, perhaps downhill, is the graveyard, and to the right of that is the church.

From what you saw tonight, can you still drive into that overlook area? Or is it so overgrown that access with a vehicle would be difficult? I'm also wondering how difficult it would be to get to that body of water, either with a vehicle or on foot. Also, is that area lit at all, or is it really dark there at night? If you can help answer any of that, it would be most appreciated.

It was very dark tonight. I didnt even notice this pull off and I was looking for things such as this. But then again I may have missed it because I was trying to pay attention to the church name. But will be back that way tommorow.

YES!!! This is near one of the areas my husband and I was searching tonight. I noticed that body of water....in the pic it looks very muddy and maybe drying up at that time. But I am still working on pinpointing our "ideas" !!

Shay, if you look to the bottom right of a post, you'll see a quote button. You just click on that to quote the person you are replying to, and then type your text as usual. Saves alot of confusion for others about who you might be answering. :)

I really hope that they find Zahra soon. One part of me hopes the bone is conclusively hers - or at least not ruled out as possibly coming from her. I don' mean anything hurtful, you guys know what I mean. That would mean they were searching in one area, and that it was likely THE area. IYKNIM.

sigh. I am still stuck on Deal Mill Road. I have looked at lots of areas, but, that area, it is so wooded, and unpopulated seeming. Of course, many are I am discovering. But for some reason I keep coming back there.

shay, you are on the money when you are thinking about areas that one or both EB and or AB have lived in the past, an areas they would be familiar with and know where and when there would be the best chance of privacy.

your idea of mapping out routes that would be familiar or known, and thinking along the lines from leaving the home and travelling to and from a secluded area is exactly what is helpful

this is all my own thoughts.

Anyone have thoughts or local perspective as to areas in and around the Granite Falls area where someone would dump a body?

Looking for dump areas/pullouts/etc.

Or any other ideas!

Here are just a few on a map I created. The ideas my husband and I had about the drag strip rd area actually is right on top of Carefree ct. one of her addresses I seen listed. I put a few my husband remembered as being hangout spots when he was younger and the drag strip was popular. I havent pinpointed the landfill area because he and I are still in debate and its hard to pick out on the map yet. Saw a few other ponds areas. You have to keep in mind this area seems large but...it is a familiar territory to those who are local and very secluded. It is very close to the drag strip but wanted it to be exact. The drag strip area takes me away from them traveling through Bethlehem to get to Christie Rd like I had originally been thinking due to exes family but I felt this area was a better idea with more oppurtinites. I just remember the very first trip EB went with the police was on Burns rd near Dudley which gave me another reason to think about going 127 to dudley rd. but look and see and any other thoughts i will post tomorrow and anything questions just ask. Thanks!

I'll be happy to come down and meet the locals and see if I can get owners' permision to look on their land. I'm sure nobody wants folks just swooping in places with no permission. But maybe church folks, gas station owners, etc. know of places folks would look on their own land who just don't have time. I'm very familiar with hanging out in the woods, too :)

If it's just the side of the road, etc, that should be no problem, either, I don't think.

That is very interesting!

The line you have marked "Dirt Rds from Drag Strip to Deal Meal Rd- near Burns and Campground Rd" is right above the large pond I was interested in.

If you look closely at the map, you can see that someone could pull down the road to the houses on the pond, drop someone off, and pretend that they just took a wrong turn and finish the loop back to the road.

The dropped off person could put something into the pond on foot, and it looks far enough away from the houses to be possible. Then they could walk back up to Deal Mill.

I'd have to see whether there are guard dogs, etc, but it looks possibly possible, imho.

How familiar would Adam have been with this area? I mean it seems that Elisa would
have some knowledge of the area from having lived there in the past but just how much
knowledge would Adam have?

I ask because I am trying to work out a theory as to how they both might have worked on
the disposal of the body or body parts since dogs allegedly hit on 2 cars.

If he was not very knowledgeable of the area he might look for certain generic types of terrain
or he might take tips from Elisa as to where to go or he might use tips garnered from
a third pary.

What if they started off in different directions, one in each vehicle? Where would they go?
