In Houston in December 2006, there was a second allegation of neglect, physical abuse and medical neglect of both Jonathan and his half sister, officials said. The case was closed because Jonathan had moved to his uncle's home out of state and his half sister was living with her grandmother.

Concerned, Davis called the house phone repeatedly as she drove there, she said. Someone picked up just minutes before she pulled up around 2 p.m.

She said when a woman answered, Davis asked to speak to her son. She heard a woman say: "Is your mama's name Angela?" she said.

Trusting and sweet to the end (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/chronicle/7362771.html)
When Jonathan Paul Foster is buried in South Park Cemetery in Pearland on Tuesday, he will be the first interred in a family plot that will someday hold his grandparents.
That Jonathan eventually will rest with his family offered a little solace to relatives of the 12-year-old boy killed on Christmas Eve, his remains charred and left in a drainage culvert in Houston.
By all accounts, it is an unspeakably sad end for a boy whose family members described him as deeply loving and affectionate. Even after bouncing from house to house in his 12 years — living with his mother, his grandmother and an uncle — he still had the trust of an innocent child.

Titus County's reputation was sullied recently with the revelation that a long-time resident, Mona Nelson, was arrested as the suspect in the murder of 12-year old Jonathan Foster, who disappeared in Houston on Christmas Eve.
As we wrote on Dec. 31, Nelson was arrested ten times from 1991 to 2008 in Titus County for offenses ranging from traffic fines to family violence and assault, according to our jail records.
The last time she was arrested, in 2008, was for three counts of Injury to a Child - a fact mentioned by other media in Houston and elsewhere.

Police still want to know why Houston boy was killed (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/7384333.html)
Hours after Christmas Day dinner at her sister's Third Ward apartment, Mona Yvette Nelson, a nomadic 44-year-old maintenance worker, was jolted by a TV news report detailing the disappearance of 12-year-old Jonathan Foster from a ramshackle Garden Oaks enclave.
"I know those people," she reportedly told her sister, Angie Johnson, 62, after watching Jonathan's mother, Angela Davis, plead for help in finding her son.
Four days later, Nelson found herself in a Harris County jail cell, charged in the boy's slaying as veteran homicide detectives with uncharacteristic candor painted her a monster.

Houston Chronicle - Houston, TX

Mona Nelson (http://www.chron.com/?controllerName=search&action=search&channel=news%2Fhouston-texas%2Fhouston&search=1&inlineLink=1&query=%22Mona+Nelson%22), the accused killer of a 12-year-old boy, testified Tuesday that she never felt free to leave when officers brought her in for hours of questioning at Houston police headquarters.

"They would say you are free to go if you want to," Nelson said, adding that when she moved toward the door investigators would say "hold on, just give us a few more minutes." This happened before she was officially arrested in the Christmas eve 2010 disappearance and death of Jonathan Foster (http://www.chron.com/?controllerName=search&action=search&channel=news%2Fhouston-texas%2Fhouston&search=1&inlineLink=1&query=%22Jonathan+Foster%22).

Mona Nelson, 47, has pleaded not guilty in the death of Jonathan Foster, a Houston fifth grader. His badly burned body was found stuffed into a culvert.

Defense seeks to throw out murder suspect's statements
The defense in a capital murder case on Monday asked a Houston judge to quash statements made by the woman accused of the kidnap-murder of a 12-year-old boy on Christmas Eve 2010, saying she was sick and exhausted after hours of interrogation.
The defendant, Mona Nelson, has taken the unusual step of having her capital murder case heard by a judge, not a jury. The trial opened Monday before Houston District Judge Jeannine Barr.
