I hope they find this little girl!

I wonder what convinced them that she was not a runaway. Articles have her as 12 and as 13 - not that it really matters but wondering which is accurate.

Putting this on twitter and fb since I am (sort of) local.

Man, 20, suspected in Fayette girl's disappearance

Fayette County authorities are asking for the public's help in finding a 12-year-old girl who may have been taken by a 20-year-old man.

The Sheriff's Office said Isabeth Yanez was last seen at home on Monday and was reported missing Tuesday morning.

She may be with 20-year-old Simon Quintana Gutierrez, who likely is driving a red 1996 Chevrolet Camaro convertible with a black top. They might be headed to North Carolina or Mexico, according to the Sheriff's Office. The car has a Georgia plate of BMH-2049.

Investigators said the girl left a note indicating she may be with Mr. Simon Quintana Guiterrez.
It’s unclear how the Bennetts Mill Middle School student met Mr. Guiterrez, Mr. Mahlon said.
“We believe she is with him. We think they were having a relationship,” he said.

She's 12 and he's 20. Why that isn't immediately seen as an abduction is way beyond me! I just don't understand how whether she WANTED to go matters! She's 12, he's 20. *MOST* states have laws about this, is GA one of them? If not, they need to change that and then enforce the law.

I noticed that, too. :( Disturbing. He "likes" Pinocchio, Alvin & the Chipmunks, Spongebob. Not that 20 year olds can't like that stuff. But when you kidnap a 12 year old it shows the true motivations.

FACT SHEET: DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE
PROJECT SAFE CHILDHOOD INITIATIVE

“Our nation has made this commitment: Anyone who targets a child for harm will be a primary target of law enforcement. That's our commitment.”
—President George W. Bush, October 23, 2002

The growing threat of sexual exploitation crimes committed against children through the Internet is a disturbing and unacceptable trend. The Department of Justice is committed to the safety and well-being of every child and has placed a high priority on protecting and combating sexual exploitation of minors. Much has been accomplished, but more must be done. Today, Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales announced the creation of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative designed to protect our children as they navigate the Internet.

Makes me crazy, too. No matter the age of the child, if the media catches ANY whiff that the child may have gone "willingly", the story drops. Despite the fact that children CANNOT consent to sex, or even to leave their family. Somehow, even though a CHILD is likely being sexually abused, there is no urgency to find her. Sad.

Notes can always be forced. Or maybe she originally decided to go with him, but changed her mind. Maybe they've talked to her on the phone? Just don't know...

Or maybe they read her diary? Or private messages between them? Something which gave them an indication that she really had no idea what was actually going on here?

OR maybe they just had an epiphany and said...

"You know what. She is 12, he is 20.
It does not matter if they were having a 'relationship.'
She is 12.
She cannot runaway and support herself.
She cannot consent.
She is likely to change her mind pretty quickly once she realizes that it isn't a Cinderella story and he isn't likely to just let her come back.
It is an abduction and should be taken seriously no matter what."

I know, it's hard to believe that law enforcement might do that... but stranger things have happened. :waitasec:

And people say the race/cuteness card isn't at play. ugh.

Poor Isabeth.

I think that the biggest factor in getting media coverage is the parents' motivation to talk to the media and actively seek out coverage. It is a shame that this responsibility is left to the family at a time when most parents would be out of their minds with fear and worry, but that is the way it is.

IMO, LE is almost unwaveringly eager to call every pre-teen/teenager a runaway unless they find an obvoius bloody crime scene at the place the child was last seen. They tend to fill out the required forms, add the child to the required lists, ask people if they saw anything and take their word for it if they say they saw nothing. This seems to happen in so many cases regardless of race or appearance of the child.

I think that until their child disappears, parents don't usually realize that barring some kind of sensational circumstance, the media probably won't come to them unless they contact the media first. LE puts out a press release and if it says runaway, good luck seeing more than an obligatory mention in the news.

I hope that someone in this child's family will go online and find information such as what we have available here at WS to help them get attention to their child's plight! If they do, they had better be ready for the inevitable negative scruitany which will follow. :twocents: MOO

Right. It doesn't matter if they were engaged and she promised to marry him. She's 12. She is nowhere near old enough to make these kinds of decisions, both legally and physiologically.

Chevrolet Fireball Run Adventurally coming to Chattanooga this fall with multiple missions

Nearly 50 celebrity and noteworthy driving teams are competing this September in what is being called the world's largest board game, with a mission stop at the Towing and Recovery Hall of Fame and Museum in Chattanooga.

[snip]

The Fireball Run's "race to recover America's missing children" is the largest active recovery effort for missing and exploited children. While competing in the rally, each team has been assigned a missing child from their home region. Thousands of posters are distributed by each team along the race route. A decal featuring the child is displayed on each vehicle, creating a "rolling milk carton."

Thirteen-year-old Isabeth Yanez from Fayetteville, Ga., has been missing for nearly seven months. The Nascar.com team, driven by Paul Dobesh and Tom Doherty, will be driving for Yanez and distributing posters with her photo and vital information.

Missing in Mexico: Fayette County family searchs for missing teen daughter

A Fayette County family has turned to the F.B.I. for help in their nearly year-long struggle to track down their missing teenage daughter in Mexico.

[snip]

Her parents, however, immediately called the police. But because the case was classified early on as runaway not a kidnapping, Simon managed to leave the state and slip across the border with Mexico with Isabeth in tow.

Frustrated as days turned in weeks and weeks into months with no tangible results, Isabeth's parents contacted the F.B.I. asking them to join the investigation.

A spokesperson for the F.B.I. says they have opened a case file and assigned an investigators work with the other local and federal agencies who've already had a hand in the case.

There's also a video at the link.

The video also states that the day Isabeth disappeared, her parents discovered their relationship. Her father had gone to talk to Simon and tell him to leave Isabeth alone. That night, she slipped out, left a note saying not to look for them, and disappeared.

It also says that Isabeth has called home a few times, but just short calls with little info. Her parents actually contacted the FBI in July. But there was a "glitch" or "clerical error", and they didn't act on it until this week.

I hate to even bring up race, but it's glaringly obvious in this case. We've heard of cases of 12-year-old white girls leaving with older men. And there have been cross-country searches put out for them. But when it's a little Hispanic girl, they just look the other way.

In addition to Isabeth, we have Elvia Morales. And countless others.

OR OR - Elvia Morales, 14, Woodburn, 5 Aug 2009 - Non-family abduction by force - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community

Why aren't all of our young girls given the same consideration when they disappear with older men? Clearly these men do not have innocent intentions.

I've posted Isabeth as a possibility for the young girls whose body was found in Oct of 2012. This is solely on the sketch, height and weight. Wish her parents would submit DNA or dentals to rule her out. Here is the UID's WS thread.

Very concerned as Simon has friended a FB person with questionable (provocative and gun)posts. The friend mentions being at a Houston Bar. El Bravo Night Club. Where is Isabeth?

Bumping for Isabeth. I do not necessarily feel as if race was a result of Isabeth's case not getting much attention. There was recently a girl whom was of hispanic ethnicity in my state who was abducted by a man and they were able to recover her after doing amber alerts in multiple states. I may be wrong, but was there an amber alert released for her? That would of really helped if there was not an amber alert for Isabeth. JMO and :twocents:

They didn't find Elizabeth from Washington. She's still missing. They just canceled the AMBER Alert because she crossed into Mexico and told everyone she was "found" safe just because she called her mother. She still hasn't been seen or found by any law enforcement or family. And she is still listed as missing with NCMEC.

But no, Isabeth didn't get an AMBER Alert.

My thankfulness was smashed whrn I found out she was still actually missing, though media was stating she was "found safe." Really hope they do not start handling this case as a runaway case now. : ' ( JMO and :twocents:

Bumping. Check out this girl's Charley Project profile below. Some man also took Mayra to Mexico with him, but here is the crazy thing; she was only eleven-years-old and law enforcement wrote her off as a runaway. :banghead: At least whoever is handling Isabeth's case is not out of their minds. Isabeth has been missing for almost 4 years. Way too long. I hope she'll be located and brought back home soon.
