From article: "Jury selection was scheduled to begin Feb. 15, but pushed back for additional forensic testing.

The two sides are expected to discuss possible trial dates."

The picture with the story is from December 2010--he's not aging well through this process.

Wonder what [Unusual Person] thinks of lover-boy now...

Not sure what forensics they were awaiting to push back the trial date--but let's get this one started. Sherri, Garrett and Gavin have waited for justice long enough.

WATERLOO -- The murder trial for Christopher Coleman will begin April 11, a judge decided Monday.
During a hearing at the Monroe County Courthouse, Circuit Judge Milton Wharton heard from Coleman's lawyers, who had requested more time to test new DNA evidence that had surfaced. The trial was supposed to begin earlier this month.

*************

I heard on the local news that they were going to seat 2-juries; one for death penalty and one non-death penalty. I guess that's to take care of what's going on in Illinois over the death penalty law.

I hope they keep that date! :waiting:

Me too -- why can't he just take LWOP? I know there's a debate on the death penalty, but he's going to get LWOP for killing Sheri, Garrett, and Gavin - regardless. Why go throuh the trial!

Is he just waiting for the death penalty debate to sort itself out? If I were him, I'd take a plea than have to stand before a DP case.

I know what you mean. This is truly a slam dunk case. He's delusional if he thinks he has a chance at trial.

RSBM--Wait, really? I know Illinois is going through the throes of DP v no-DP, but do you have a link for the seating-two-juries thing for this case? I am flabbergasted. What if the two juries come to opposite conclusions? :waitasec:

I think it means that there would be 2 juries in case the DP was overturned...only one jury would hear the trial, but let's say the DP was tossed on Oct 1st, they could theoretically have to pick a whole new jury...

Here is a link to an article about the 2 pools of jurors.

"Wharton said that as a safeguard for Coleman, he will assemble a pool of jurors who have not been asked about the death penalty and keep them in readiness in case the death penalty is abolished after jury selection. Wharton has previously ruled that jurors will be brought in from another county because of heavy pretrial publicity in the metro-east. It was not clear whether a mistrial would be declared if the death penalty was abolished during the trial, but O'Gara said if that happened, he would likely ask for one.

Reading between the lines here..we have reports of Coleman letting Tara "listen" to his confrontations with his wife; we have reports of Sheri's Facebook page being hacked with at least one comment.."You don't deserve Chris."...we have reports that the sexting and emails between Chris and Tara were "brazen."

I'm going to speculate that taunting and tormenting Sherri was sexual foreplay for these two. I think we are going to hear of months of humiliation and Sheri being forced to have Tara's "superiority" in all ways shoved in her face.

I think we will learn that was part of their enjoyment. Did Sherri know that wedding Save the Dates were going out...that Tara was house shopping with Chris?

I think they MADE her know. I think we are going to see a perverted sexual game here that was heightened by having Sherri to victimize.

There is a quote that Chris said Sherri was keeping him "from God's will for him"...his life with the Dog Track waitress.

I'm predicting we will be astounded by the cruelty we hear that preceded this horrific crime.

In court Thursday, Lintz offered three reasons why she did not want to travel to Illinois. She said she didn't want to miss work and didn't want to be bothered by the media.

She also implied she feared for her safety and said authorities in Illinois told her they would send two detectives to Florida to escort her to the trial.

"I just want to stay out of harm's way," she told Pinellas-Pasco Chief Judge Thomas McGrady. "I really don't want to go but I don't think I have a choice."

Trial to begin in strangling of Ill. family

Jury selection begins Monday in the oft-delayed Monroe County case against Coleman, a former Marine accused of a crime that has transfixed much of the St. Louis metropolitan area.

Investigators believe Coleman, 34, spent months setting up the killings of his wife and their two boys, 11 and 9, to make it appear the work of an intruder who had stalked the family. They say Coleman authored and sent threatening letters to his own home and ultimately spray-painted the vulgar messages on the walls.

Coleman claimed he wasn't home at the time of the crime, and police found the bodies after he called asking them to check on his family. In contesting the prosecution's largely circumstantial case, his defense attorneys tried unsuccessfully to persuade a judge to exclude testimony by Sheri Coleman's friends, who claimed the mother had sought to save her unraveling marriage but feared her husband.

Chris Coleman murder trial jury screening begins

An estimated 80 potential jurors were screened on the first day. The judge swore them all in, instructed them on the rules as jurors and gave them a survey to fill out. The lawyers will use the survey results to help them pick the jury.

The defendant, Coleman, was not in Pinckneyville, but the judge told the potential jurors about the charges he faces.

Opening statements are scheduled to begin on April 25th.
