His silence is deafening.
More than three weeks after Westchester college student Lauren Spierer vanished during a night out partying at Indiana University, Jason "Jay" Rosenbaum -- the last person to admit having seen her alive -- has ignored her parents' pleas for information that could lead them to their daughter, family friends told The Post.
"He is one of the people we wish would be more forthcoming," said a person involved in the ongoing search for the pretty, petite 20-year-old in Bloomington, Ind.
Instead, Rosenbaum, 21, has hired a high-profile criminal defense lawyer, left his Bloomington condo and, sources said, clammed up. His Indiana lawyer, James Voyles, didn't return calls.

Missing student's mother marks day 50 (http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/READ-Missing-Students-Mother-Marks-Day-50-126009669.html)
Today marks the 50th day of her disappearance.
Lauren’s heartbroken mother, Charlene, released the following letter through the Twitter account @NewsonLaurenS. Below is the unedited letter.

July 21, 2011
Our daughter, Lauren, disappeared on June 3, 2011. In the blink of an eye, she disappeared. I truly hope as a parent, you never get that phone call. The feeling is indescribable. Weeks later, the feeling is the same. It’s as if our lives before June 3rd never happened. We are suspended in time. I cannot imagine doing anything other than searching for Lauren until the time we find her and can take her home with us. Some days are paralyzing. As you wake every morning, the nightmare begins again. You cannot give in. You cannot give up hope. Every day you think this could be the day and every day I believe that with all my heart.
Lauren is so much more than a face on a poster. She is Rebecca’s sister. She has grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. She is our daughter. Lauren has friends she adores. Friends she would go the extra mile for. Everyday something reminds me of her. It might be something as small as seeing a sunflower, hearing a song or noticing something I’d love to tell Lauren about. My heart is breaking.
Over the last several weeks, I’ve learned a new language no one should ever have to learn. I now know what things like PLS, POI, recon, ATV and vetting all mean. The word “ transition” is another way of letting me know a change is about to happen that I might not be happy about. I’ve learned to speak while looking into a camera instead of a person’s eyes. I’ve learned that social media is a way to reach a great deal of people in a very short time. I constantly read blogs, check Twitter and Facebook.
I’ve learned what it takes to update a website with the latest information about my dear sweet girl. I’ve learned how to suppress my pain. I’ve learned how to keep thoughts of Lauren before June 3 at bay because when they come to the surface it is almost too painful to endure. I’ve learned that you never run out of tears. They are always there, always on the surface, a constant reminder of the ache in my heart. I’ve learned that the world is comprised of many wonderful, kind people. Just waiting to help Rob, Rebecca and me in any way they can.
But outside all that goodness, I’ve learned there lurks an evil, a cruel, heartless element that cares more about themselves than the life of my daughter. That this element of humanity exists in the world is beyond comprehension. Your silence is deafening. Your lack of compassion is irreprehensible. Your lack of respect for another human being which allows you to go day, by day, watching is unimaginable. Everyone is put on this earth for a purpose. Everyone has a defining moment. In the blink of an eye Lauren disappeared. Do not let this be your defining moment. You have no idea what you have taken from us.
My promise to you, we will not rest until we find Lauren. What are you waiting for? You can still do the right thing.

Find Lauren…PO Box 1226…Bloomington, IN 47402-1226.

Lauren, I love you with my heart and soul. We will never give up.

Ever strong, ever determined, ever hopeful,

New details emerge in Lauren Spierer's case (http://www.jconline.com/article/20110722/NEWS09/110722003/New-details-emerge-Lauren-Spierer-case?odyssey=tab%7Ctopnews%7Ctext%7CFRONTPAGE)
Indiana University sophomore Lauren Spierer was so incapacitated as she left her apartment building the morning she went missing that she stumbled out of her elevator, fell against a wall and had to be helped to her feet by a male friend who led her out of the building, a person who saw the video evidence said Thursday.
The evidence contradicts statements by friend Corey Rossman's lawyer, who said Spierer helped his client walk home June 3 after he was punched in the face and suffered memory loss.

An upscale apartment building in downtown Bloomington is looking to revamp what some say is an image as a haven for hard partiers in the wake of the June disappearance of an Indiana University student who lived there.
Smallwood Plaza apartments officials acknowledge as much as 99 percent of police calls to the complex involve alcohol in some fashion. Police say 20-year-old Lauren Spierer had been drinking before she went missing June 3. But Smallwood officials insist they don't simply look the other way.

Lauren Spierer vanished from Bloomington, Indiana, on June 3, 2011. Since her disappearance, not much has come as far as leads are concerned. That was until this week, when the story took a twist. Ever since the IU fashion student went missing, her friends from that night have remained tight-lipped, and the story of her walking a friend home who suffered from amnesia from a fight is all that has been known. Could Corey Rossman be lying, or was Lauren attacked by a street-haunting strangler?

Lauren Spierer was last seen on video cameras walking with Corey Rossman, after leaving her apartment at Smallwood Plaza. The Indy Channel source said that the video footage of Corey and Lauren show she couldn't have been helping him make it to his apartment, as he claims, because she was barely able to walk herself due to being too intoxicated.

In an emotional open letter to the person responsible for her daughter's disappearance, the mother of missing Indiana University student Lauren Spierer pledges to never give up searching for answers.
"If you think for a minute her father and I are going to disappear, think again," Charlene Spierer writes in the letter, written on the three-month anniversary of Lauren Spierer's disappearance and released Saturday on the family's "Find Lauren" web site.
"We are just as determined today as we were day one. You should know that Lauren is precious to us. ... We are in this for the long haul. Do you think we are going to walk away without finding out the answers? Do you think we are going to rest until we find Lauren? We will not. You have no idea who you have taken from us. Bloomington Police Chief Michael Diekhoff released the following statement as a reply to Dietl's comments:

"At their request, a meeting took place with Beau and two of his other investigators at the department. They introduced themselves as retired New York City police officers that were hired by the Spierers to privately investigate Lauren's disappearance. Beau wanted to "partner" with our department and wanted us to share details of the police investigation. They were told that was not possible for a variety of reasons. First, Lauren's disappearance remains an ongoing, open investigation. As such, it is necessary that pertinent information is not revealed in order to maintain the integrity of the investigation as any and all information is explored. Second, it would be unethical and contrary to standard police practice for a police department to "partner" with and provide information to a private agency. Third, it was evident from the discussion that at least part of their intention was to harass certain individuals. Obviously, that it is not something that our department can sanction. And, in fact, we have already received complaints that individuals have been harassed by at least one of Beau's private investigators. Finally, our department is as committed, as Beau professes to be, in finding Lauren. However, unlike Beau and his other private investigators, we will continue conducting our investigation by following the law and using proper police procedures. In that way, when Lauren is found, there will be no impediment to there being justice for Lauren and her family.

"Quite frankly, I was a little surprised that Beau, as a retired police officer, wasn't aware of the impropriety of a police department sharing investigatory information with a private agency. Instead, he seemed annoyed that our department was not willing to "partner' with him and share all of our files with him. In addition, Beau and his investigators also contacted the FBI and other police agencies that have been assisting our department with this case, making the same request for information about the police investigation. Those agencies also refused to provide Beau with the information for the same reasons I have cited above. As he did not get the information he came seeking, I can only surmise that is the reason he described me as "Gomer Pyle". I don't agree with that characterization, but to use a time honored phrase, maybe that is how they do things in New York. At any rate, he is entitled to his opinion. And, for what it's worth....I've been called worse."

Lauren Spierer: Family still seeks closure in daughter's disappearance
The tips have dwindled and police in Bloomington, Ind., seem no closer to solving the June 2011 disappearance of Lauren Spierer, an Indiana University student from Greenburgh.
But her parents are continuing their efforts to keep the case alive through national media appearances, hoping to pressure those who were with her early on June 3, 2011, to be more forthcoming with them and law enforcement authorities.
“We know there is a person on this earth that knows what happened,” Robert Spierer told People magazine in an article published this week.

Exclusive: Why Lauren Spierer's parents won't give up
Robert and Charlene Spierer liken their voices to white noise. Even they’re numbed by the sound of themselves talking, as they express despair, anger and frustration in the face of the second anniversary of their daughter’s disappearance. Still, the once-private couple from Greenburgh are afraid that if they stop talking about their daughter, Indiana University student Lauren Spierer, her still-unsolved case will cease to be a story. Specifically, they want to keep pressure on four young men, all considered “persons of interest” in the investigation, to stop hiding behind their lawyers and submit to police lie-detector tests.

Submitting to polygraphs, the Spierers contend, is the only way to confirm that Corey Rossman, Jay Rosenbaum, Mike Beth and Jesse Wolff are being honest about their interactions with 20-year-old Lauren Spierer in the hours before her disappearance. In November, they wrote letters to the parents of all four men pleading for them to get their children to take polygraphs. Two denied the request; two didn't even respond.

Judge denies Lauren Spierer's parent's request to seal information

A federal judge has denied a request by the parents of missing Indiana University student Lauren Spierer to keep private some evidence in their lawsuit against two men who were with their daughter before she disappeared.

In an order filed Wednesday, U.S. Magistrate Judge Tim Baker said the Spierers' request is too broad and vague as to the information they want sealed and fails to describe what qualifies as confidential.

Baker's decision is the latest development in the lawsuit that Robert and Mary Charlene Spierer filed against Jason Rosenbaum and Corey Rossman. It claims the two gave her alcohol despite knowing she was intoxicated and owed her a "duty of care."

Still searching for Lauren Spierer

John Holliday pulls into the lot and climbs out of his pickup. It's a Friday only a couple of weeks ago, and he's out on the trail once more.

This time it's a small patch of scrub just north of Bloomington, along West Acuff Road and Ind. 37.

He walks across Acuff toward the stretch of private property that's covered with tall grass, briar patches and weeds seeping with spittlebug froth. He offers warnings about three things — ticks, sunburn and deep holes hidden by the overgrowth. He deftly jumps a creek to inspect an old well. A camera is strapped around his neck; he’s dressed in green and camouflage. The red laces to his sneakers come untied and remain so for the next hour.

Federal judge dismisses lawsuit against men last seen with missing student Lauren Spierer

A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by the parents of missing Indiana University student Lauren Spierer.

Spierer’s parents claim the men—who were among the last people to see her—failed in their “duty of care” to their daughter.
