Here's a link to a long article about this case in today's (2-12-06) Grand Rapids (MI) Press:

http://www.mlive.com/news/grpress/index.ssf?/base/news-27/1139743858309450.xml&coll=6

Might need to enter a zip code (real or fake) to read it.

Good article. It's almost as if she just dropped off the face of the earth. Her family has waited too long for answers I hope they find something soon.

Wonder what Bruce Bunch's alibi was? He was the then 17-year-old student who claims he had a "mental telepathy thing" and had a dream about Deannie, which he told to other people, and which made some people believe he struck Deannie with his car, killed her, and buried her. That seems like an odd thing to say. I don't know if he is or was a person of interest, but he seems pretty weird.

Please take the time to watch the video I have created in hopes of bringing some more attention to her case:

By the way Mr. E., Bruce is now living in Tennessee and is still a person of interest but has never been questioned thoroughly by Kent County Sherriff's (I dont believe that KCSD has ruled anyone out entirely since the case has never been solved). Furthermore even though he has family here in Michigan he has never returned and some have speculated that he is afraid that if he were to return he might be brought in for questioning and that is why he has not come back.

I have found it interesting since January that one would make such a comment to media and that Kent County Sherriff's didn't jump on that statement.

Are you saying that he can only be brought in for questioning IF he sets foot in Michigan? That doesn't ring true for me.

No I am not a family member of Dean Marie's but got involved in the case several years later as I too have heard the rumors that several individuals have gone to police regarding. I have spoken to several detectives that were involved in the Peters case and will continue to do so until someone listens. For those of you that don't understand why detectives would sweep this case under the rug please read any and all searches regarding the Fryling Murder Case and that would give you a better understanding of why police will not go to Tennessee and question Mr. Bunch. Until we have proof (such as her remains) they will continue to do nothing but call this a cold case.

I will also tell you that I have not spoken to the family but after the article appeared in the Grand Rapids Press (Thanks to me) on her 25th anniversary I will tell you that I recieved a message from a close friend of Mrs. Peters that stated it will be individuals such as myself that continue to get media attention for this case and continuelly keeping this case in the fore front that will end up getting this case solved.

Thank you for your comment on the video and I also wanted to include the number but with as many changes with detectives and the number I thought it if anyone had information they would just call KCSD or silent observer.

I would put those phone numbers on there, then. I do not know what KCSD is, and some don't know about Silent Observer. We don't have that here in NE.

I always think its nationwide but your right its not. KCSD is the Kent County Sherriff's Department I just like to shorten it down since I end up typing it alot.

They're wiping the slate clean and starting from scratch in a case nearly 30 years old.

The Kent Metro Cold Case Team is looking for tips in the disappearance of Dean Marie Pyle (Deanie Peters.)

She was an 8th grader at Forest Hills Central Middle School when she went missing February 5, 1981 while attending her brother's wrestling practice.

Members of the Cold Case Team want to speak with anyone who was at Forest Hills Central Middle or High School the night in question.

They also want to speak with anyone with information regarding the organization of the Donkey Basketball game that took place that night at the high school.

People police have talked to in the past are encouraged to contact police.

Thanks for posting that link.

This paragraph from the story intrigued me:

"Krystin Ryder, an Illinois resident who grew up in Lowell and has taken a keen interest in the Deanie Peters case, put a self-produced video on YouTube.com, hoping to turn attention to Peters' disappearance. Over the years, Ryder has painstakingly cataloged information about Deanie and possible suspects. People have contacted her with tips and, in 2005, she searched property near Lowell with cadaver dogs. Cold-case investigators plan to visit Ryder's northern Illinois home next week to look at her notes and files.

"Watch her tribute video highlighting scenes from the investigation. "

For 27 years, Mary Peters has replayed the moments leading up to her teenage daughter's disappearance.

She dropped off her son for wrestling practice at a local school, and 14-year-old Deanie Peters had asked to use the bathroom.

"I said, 'Fine,'" her mother said. "She never came back. That was it."

Since that day, Mary Peters has suffered pain and uncertainty, wondering how that brief stop at Forest Hills Central Middle School could have led to Deanie's disappearance

Not a trace of the pretty brunette was ever found. It is as if she just vanished.

"I never saw her again," Mary Peters said Wednesday. "Is she still alive? That's the question. Is she dead? What's the answer? That's what I'm looking for. ... What happened?"

On the banks of the Flat River just north of Lowell is a plot of land formerly known at the Young Marines Camp. It hasn't been used for years, but it continues to draw the attention of police detectives.

Toni Schaefer and her husband currently own 13 acres of the property, and detectives first came to their house about nine years ago, searching for clues that may lead them to Deanie Peters, the 14-year-old who vanished 27 years ago.

Police "say they continue to get tips over the years steadily and that's why they always come back," Schaefer told 24 Hour News 8. Their ground has been dug up in multiple spots, including "behind where that rock is."

Deanie -- whose given name is Dean Marie Pyle -- disappeared Feb. 5, 1981 from her brother's wrestling practice at Forest Hills Central Middle School. She told her mom she was going to use the restroom.

She hasn't been seen since.

Rosie is a specially trained search dog. She's been trained to sniff for human remains that could be hundreds of years old. She and a human search team are in northwest Ionia County trying to find Deanie Peters.

Deanie disappeared from her brother's wrestling practice at Forest Hills Central Middle School in February 1981. She's never been seen since.

The Kent County cold case team re-opened the case in March. And on this day, the search-and-rescue team was on the case.

Rosie, a Doberman, is known as a historic cadaver dog. She and other dogs like her are trained to find unmarked Civil War graves, Indian burial grounds and other long-lost bodies.

"As it turns out, the chemical compositions in bone fragments don't completely break down," said searcher Maria Ciski. "A dog can still smell them if they're several hundred years old. There's still enough scent there so they can identify them."

Rosie and Ciski made the trip to northwest Ionia County from Wichita, Kansas. Not officially connected with the cold-case team, the search-and-rescue group decided to take a look in two sites long familiar to police.

Police previously searched each site and found nothing. Rosie, who either finds evidence or clears the scene about 80 percent of the time, also found nothing. But Ciski still considers this a succesful search, because now this site can be eliminated.

Dean Marie Pyle Peters
14 year-old Dean attended her brother's wrestling tournament on February 5, 1981 along with her mother at a local middle school in Ada, Michigan, just outside of Grand Rapids, Michigan where she lived.Dean was last seen by her mother when she excused herself to go to the rest room but she never went/made it to the rest room-and was never seen again.
Dean (who usually went by the nickname 'Deanie') is suspected to have been abducted, though that was never proven in her case. She had dreams of being a model someday and was described by many to be 'very attractive'. Another theory was that Dean ranaway to California where she originally lived, but soon it was obvious that wasn't the case since she left her make-up, purse and all her money behind. (Friends say she never went anywhere without her make-up.) Police say Dean had no reason to runaway-there was no family probelms detected and that she was a bright student.
In 1991, Dean was declared legally dead and her case is now a cold case, which many fear will never be solved. The sad thing is, Dean has been forgotten by lots of people and also by the media, but despite all of that, Dean's friends and family have never stopped looking for her and they never will.

GRAND RAPIDS - She waved to her mother's friend and said, "I'll be right back."

Dean Marie "Deanie" Pyle Peters of Cascade was 14 the afternoon of Feb. 5, 1981, when she disappeared while walking out of her brother's wrestling meet at Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central Middle School, never to be seen again.

The eighth-grade pupil and aspiring model was declared legally dead in 1991, although neither she nor a body have ever been found.

Michigan State Police Lakeview post Det. Sgt. Sally Wolter is on a mission to bring closure to this cold case.

I was recently reading about this case on the net, this one seems solvable,I think the story about her getting hit in the parking lot and someone panicking and hiding the body seems plausible.
You would think someone would talk at some point if enough preasure was applied by investigators.
It sounds like inner politics in LE have slowed progress on the case.

Have you seen the thread I posted comparing her picture to an UID in Texas?

Here is the link.http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71070

Go down the thread to the second proposed possible link. There is a striking similarity in her photo and the artist sketch.

Yes, could be....
but,
I think Mindi Chambers looks more like the sketch... and the dates/height/braces are more of a match with her.....
