Search continues for missing McLean man, Thomas Duesterhaus

Authorities continue to search for a missing McLean man.

Thomas Duesterhaus voluntarily left his Carlin Lane, McLean, home on June 17 and was “distraught,” police said.

The 37-year-old English teacher and youth minister had just found out his teaching contract at Bishop O'Connell wasn't renewed. The family says they learned it wasn't a criminal matter but didn't know much else. They're worried he's devastated.

After learning his contract would not be renewed, Duesterhaus went to Virginia Beach on a religious mission. An eyewitness told police she saw him swim into the ocean. Police found his travel bag on the beach 12 hours later. That was more than a week ago.

Tom is a 37 years old white male, 6ft 3in, 190lb, with blonde hair & green eyes. He may be driving his 1999 blue Buick LeSabre with Virginia tags, XMT-8126.

This is the brother in law of a sorority sister of mine. He needs to be found.

Attendees of Wednesday's vigil are encouraged to bring friends and family, as well as candles, flowers, poems and pictures, in addition to any items they want. The event also states the vigil is intended to give students "a chance to keep [Tom] in our thoughts and keep the hope alive." And that, "it should be respectful and peaceful."

egs ~ I would join the FB page for Tom http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/home.php?sk=group_170635782999429&ap=1 and then either post on the wall or message one of his brothers (Alan or Greg) or father (Rich). They are posting on that FB page.

Thank you for your desire to help out! His family desperately needs him home.
