This was from the members only forum from that site- I'm a new member. I submitted the Lyle Stevik and David Abramovitz rule-out, but not the Allan Matheson one. I posted these so that people already know who's already been ruled out as a PM for a UID

Sorry if I sound ignorant, but is this a list of missing people who's DNA was tested against the DNA of the UID person listed and this has ruled the missing person out? If so, wow! I would love to see this information listed along with other information about a UID on the Doe Network. That could save amateur sleuths a lot of time and energy! I'm not clear on where this information can be found, though. Do you have a link you can share? I have been assuming that each LE agency keeps their own records and that there isn't a comprehensive list of those that are tested against a given UID. Thanks for any help!

I would love to post the link to where I got this info from, but because The North American Centre for Unidentified Persons and Unsolved Crimes's Rule out Database is Members Only stuff, a guest would have to get a membership to view it.

There were many reasons for the rule outs. It varies from DNA, dentals, height differances, unknown reasons, some via NCMEC. 9 cases were ruled out by DNA, 21 by dentals, 5 by unknown reasons, and 3 for other reasons. At least 3-4 cases were ruled by DNA and dentals

The Doenetwork is a website that posts cases of missing persons and also cases where bodies are found but not identified.
People study the various Doe files and those posted on other websites and try to match missing persons with John or Jane Does. When Law Enforcement agencies do a forensic comparison, sometimes matches are made, or the suggested match is "ruled out".
By posting this list of "rule outs", a person can see what has been checked already.
Incidently, if you visit the Doenetwork site, you can also see their list of successful matches.

But if you go to that link, you can see them all. Please note, though, that Porchlight uses our own numbering system and most of the entries will be in that system. It is fairly straightforward though
We use a two digit state code, a single digit for sex, a two digit year, two digit month, and two digit day.
Thus NYM040608
is a Male found in New York on June 8 2004 (i just made the number up as an example)
so if you know the state and place of discovery for the JD you are interested in, just look for it to be alphabetically/numerically listed.
Of course, there are hundreds more rule outs we do not know about. These are just what Porchlight members have been able to discover.
Please feel free to add them wherever you like.

I know there is a rule out thread, there simply has to be.
However, the search function didn't have any more luck finding it than I did.
So, if we don't have them all in one place, I think it would be a lot of help if we had a rule out thread.
Please contribute if you wish. Mods, if for some reason this isn't allowed...you know the drill. :)
I have started with Namus, working backwards from the present.

I think this is a good idea. I think it would be more user friendly (albeit more work for the poster) if a link was included for each UID so we could just click the link and be able to view the UID in question.

Links would be good, but can be hard with Doe, especially when they start switching cases from Hot Cases to regular files. I know it could be more user friendly, but it has to be a little bit typer friendly too.
If both Doe Network and Namus didn't have search functions, I would link each one. But, since some of these are still hot cases for Doe, when that changes, if I don't catch the switch, the only way to find them will be search Doe for the Hot Case number.
This way, if people search for the newly posted cases, when a UID case is posted we already know who it isn't.
I'm also trying to get Namus utilized a little more, since a lot of these cases are coming in with only a Doe link, and there is more info on many of them on Namus (sometimes conflicting, which is a pain.) And a lot of the cases that already have some ruleouts aren't listed on Doe. (Not slamming them, there are some on Doe that aren't in Namus yet, either, but Doe doesn't usually list the rule outs where they can be accessed.)

This is based on the word of the lead investigator in the case, to whom I spoke by telephone. He said that they recently located a blood swatch from the Valentine Sally case, and were able to get her into CODIS.

This thread in the cold case section was most likely started before this current unidentified forum existed. There are still some older unidentifieds down in the Cold case too, so I would search the entire forum kind of thing if necessary.
I think this is just fine as it is nmk. You've done a good job with this and as long as the other thread is linked to this one, I think it is fine. Maybe the mods can lock the older one and add a link back to this one, so there aren't two threads going?

There are a lot of "ruled out" submissions here and that is helpful when searching, but can you tell us why they are not listed on the NamUs page if they are a NamUS case? It just seems logical if they know someone is ruled out, they have time to list them. Thanks for the update.

Some say they will, but then they don't. Others say that even though they have looked at and ruled-out possible matches, they don't have a rule-out listing. Most of the names that you see in NamUs are those names generated by the NamUs automated matching system. Very rarely are these lists comprehensive.

It was my understanding the case manager was to check and/or correct information on NamUS and to list a rule out when someone submitted it and it was not a match. I see a big problem with that not being the case. They will continue to get submissions on a particular UP and soon will not look at any of them whereas if there was a rule out list, whoever is handling the submission can see the ruled out name first before spending time on one that is not a match. I had such hope for NamUS. The whole set up is great if the input is correct and current. Thanks

I came across this case while scanning NamUs. I believe I found a possible match to this UID female. I would love some input. I like these two as a match because of the similarities in descriptions plus the doe was found in Simpson County and Peggy Sue was last seen in Allen County. These two counties are situated next to each other. Peggy Sue had an abusive boyfriend who had assaulted her with a deadly weapon before she went missing and doe had a healed fracture of proximal right humerus (upper arm near shoulder).

Case History
Partially skeletonized remains were found by a survey crew on the shoulder of the northbound lane near the 12-mile marker in Simpson County, alongside Interstate 65, just North of Kentucky-Tennessee stateline. It was some distance from the travel portion of the roadway on a downward slope.

Elizabeth Crawford has been ruled out vs this Jane Doe.
I found these two cases on Doe Network and wanted to post them for you all to take a look at. I think there are a lot of similarities between these two women and was wondering if anyone else thinks this might be a match?
Elizabeth Crawford disappeared in July 86 from South Carolina, this unidentified womans torso and leg were found in August 86 400 miles away in Chesterfield VA. I looked the towns up and it is a straight shot from Simpsonville SC to Chesterfield VA on I85.

Case History
The victim was located at the Shoosmith landfill in Chesterfield County, Virginia on August 7, 1986. The head, hands and both legs had been removed from the body by some type of electrical/mechanical saw. Only the torso and left leg have been recovered. It appears the remains were kept in a relatively cool environment (refrigerator) or semi-air tight container to delay decomposition.

Circumstances of Disappearance
On the evening of July 16, 1986 Ms. Elizabeth Crawford received a telephone call at her home at 108 Cherrywood Mobile Home Park in Simpsonville, SC. After receiving this phone call, Ms. Crawford told her son she was going to a friend's house and would be back soon. Ms. Crawford never arrived at the friends house. This was at 10:30 PM and she has not been seen since.
The Simpsonville Police Department have witnesses who state they saw Ms. Crawford two days after the disappearance in the company of a white male outside the Ingles in Simpsonville.
On July 19, 1986, Ms. Crawford's 1978 Chevrolet Malibu, 2 door was found abandoned in Fountain Inn on Georgia Street in front of Wilson Sporting Goods, five miles from her home.
Does anyone else think this could be Elizabeth Crawford? They are only 2 states away so they may have been compared/ruled out already?

Circumstances of Disappearance
Sexton left her Ohio home on May 1, 1981 with her boyfriend, a known drug dealer. He later returned without her and is since deceased. Sexton was last known to be in Tampa, Florida and may have traveled to Mexico. Her mother told authorities that she last heard from her daughter in 1984.

Look at the hair part to Lisa and the UID... I think it looks the same...
In 1984 Lisa would have been 17 - The UID is listed to be between 17-20 yr old - Hair color matches up also (or close)
The only thing that makes me wonder is the height. Lisa's height is listed at
5'8, The UID on The Doe Network is listed at 5" - 5'1 and the UID on Namus is listed at 5'6 and it is estimated...

This John Doe has been ruled out against Edward Amabile.
I am new at this and was debating whether or not to post but I figured if there's even a 1% chance it is him I better. The missing person's name is Edward James Amabile. He went missing on the way to pick up his daughter on 12-4-2003 in Pennsylvania. Here is the link:

There is not a lot of info. on here so it's a long shot but the age and height match up and I google mapped the location from where Mr. Amabile was driving and where the UID was found and it's only 24 minutes away.
Please tell me what you think, there is not a lot to go on I know. I did see that there is a link to the medical examiner but there was a possibility of post-mortem photos. I do not have the stomach for that so I did not click.

To all who have followed my case:
I want to thank all those who helped me in the case on the BP John Doe in Lake City, FL. However, I was updated this afternoon that the John Doe in question and the missing person in question Erik Sol Patchin, do not match. The time frame was pretty accurate, but after bout 4 months of my investigation into the two links, the investigation conducted by the CCSO, Leon County Sheriffs Office and FDLE failed to recognize such a link. However, I am not going to give up so easily....I am asking and making a call out to all the sleuths to look into any missing person cases anywhere between May and June 1994 involving a male youth. This goes out as a APB for all states in the country. Thanks.
