Family fears for lost NT woman

THE family and friends of a young Darwin woman missing a day after her 25th birthday have made a heartfelt plea for her to make contact.

Rebecca Michels, of Wagaman, and fiance Craig Stanley, 28, of Victoria, have not been seen since October 26.

Ms Michels had left the Territory to be with her partner in Frankston, Victoria, last year.

Family friend Sandra Nelson, who is orchestrating an online search for the pair, said they had left a note to say they had gone camping in Victoria.

Victorian police believe the couple left their house in a taxi, went to a hire car company and drove to Ballarat.

They returned the car with possessions inside. Ms Nelson said both mobile phones were off

Detective Senior Constable Chris Sweet, of Frankston Police, said the pair left Ms Michel’s home in a taxi and hired a car from Budget rentals in Frankston.

Mr Stanley had organised for the car to be returned on a car carrier to the Frankston Budget store, and the freight driver retrieved the car from a man and a woman matching their descriptions one week ago. The car’s been returned to Budget at Frankston with a fair amount of their belongings in it, including clothing and a metal detector,’’ Senior Constable Sweet said.

Police believe the couple have met with foul play
