Tom and Will Green, who have no identification, and say they have never been to school or watched television, have been put up in a hotel and given food...

The so-called "wild boys" surfaced in Vernon this summer, living in the bush and surviving on food from local residents. Vernon is in the Okanagan Valley in southern B.C., east of Vancouver. Vernon's population is about 45,000.

Tom, 22, and Will, 16, attracted the attention of local social workers, residents and politicians, including Alliance MP Darrel Stinson of federal riding of Okanagan-Shuswap. Stinson believes the brothers' story could be true...

They say they were born in the wilderness and raised in isolation by their mom and dad, who they have identified as Mary and Joseph Green.

Few have seen them, but everybody's talking about the so-called wild boys of Vernon: two brothers who reportedly scavenged to survive after fleeing their parents' remote home in the bush, where they claim to have grown up without the trappings of modern life.

Tom, 22, and Will, 16, showed up in Vernon this summer and were brought to the attention of local politicians and charitable agencies by residents worried at their gaunt appearance...

"When you hear a story like this, you obviously think, 'Is it true?' " said Sean Wong, a Salvation Army captain in Vernon. "But obviously they are in need, and there seems to be some credibility to their story."

Mr. Wong said he has not personally met the brothers...

Mr. Wong said the brothers had met with staff from the office of Darrel Stinson, the member of Parliament for Okanagan-Shuswap.

Rhelda Evans, a case worker for Mr. Stinson's office, told the Vancouver Province newspaper that she was skeptical at first, but joined the loose-knit group trying to help the brothers after she met them in person.

"There are individual kids who are really good actors, but I don't think two kids could be really good actors," she said.

November 2003:

Two half-starved brothers who emerged from the bush two weeks ago are telling an astonishing tale of growing up in complete isolation in the remote backwoods of B.C.'s Interior.

Initially, the story of Tom and Will Green seemed like Swiss-Family-Robinson fiction.

But now a wide-ranging group including a young mother, lawyer, counsellor, Salvation Army
staff and the local member of Parliament have come to believe it might be true.

"They are not like other street kids," says Carol Anne, who once ran a group home for runaways
and now works as a receptionist for local Canadian Alliance MP Darrel Stinson.
"They don't have that what's-it-to-you, in-your-face demeanour."

The kind-hearted group of residents put the brothers in a hotel and provided them with food.
They are also fiercely protecting the privacy of Tom, 22, and Will, 16. None would arrange an
interview, for fear of spooking the boys back into the bush...

They say they have never been to school, seen a doctor, watched television or made a childhood
friend...

Will says he was ordered to leave home this summer when he became a vegetarian and his
mother declared him an "alien influence" in the home, says Rhelda Evans, a case worker for
Stinson.

Tom followed, and the brothers hitched a ride to Vernon, in B.C.'s Interior about 80 kilometres
northeast of Kelowna, where they surfaced about four months ago.

They spent the summer in the bush, begging fruit, vegetables and money from local farmers...

The brothers are protective of their parents and refuse to divulge their location, says Evans.
"We're still trying to win their trust so they will allow us to help them," she says.

It's been a big week for wild boys Tom (23) and Will (16) Green...

This week's CBC news television program "Disclosure" did a 15 minute segment on the two boys including an exclusive one on one interview with Tom, the pair's eldest...

In the interview, Tom revealed that he and his brother have now been cut off welfare and can't get ID to legally work since they refuse to tell authorities where their parents are...

Now the wild boys are big news in Northern California. The San Francisco Chronicle has them on their front page today asking for help in identifying the pair. The boys say they have family there.

Tom Green, March 2004.

Will Green was committed to hospital March 2004 for an eating disorder.

http://www.castanet.net/content/1080862244oys.wmv

March 2004:

ithout Tom and Will’s help, no one has been able to find the boys’ parents. Now there’s a crisis. At Tom’s birthday party, in December 2003, Will, 16, was a silent presence. He was thin, excruciatingly thin, the result of an extreme vegetarian diet the boys had adopted – a diet they say caused the split with their parents...

For months, everyone around Will worried – except Tom. Three weeks ago, against his brother’s wishes, Will was committed to the hospital. He was taken there by force. At six feet one inch, he weighed just 84 pounds.

https://web.archive.org/web/20040602233032/http://www.cbc.ca/disclosure/archives/040330_boys/will.html

With no facts, in Vernon and in Revelstoke conspiracy theories have taken over: the parents must have been draft dodgers … members of a religious cult …...

DISCLOSURE: Were you and Will perhaps abducted by these people? Are they really your parents?
TOM: I’m pretty sure they are, because I have recognized certain features on me that match my parents. And I’m pretty certain Will, you know, is my real brother.
DISCLOSURE: You’re “pretty certain.” It’s crossed your mind that perhaps you’re not?
TOM: Well, there are things maybe I’m suspicious about but.
DISCLOSURE: Like what?
TOM: Well, I guess maybe even their names [Mary and Joseph] is little bit suspicious.
DISCLOSURE: What makes you suspicious about their names?
TOM: Well, the names of the parents of Jesus. And I think maybe if they did change their names, that’s a possibility, because nobody is able to find them under those names.

https://web.archive.org/web/20040603004006/http://www.cbc.ca/disclosure/archives/040330_boys/believe.html

DISCLOSURE: What would be so difficult about asking them to help provide you identification?
TOM: I have asked them, but they don’t see my situation as so desperate … where they’re going to compromise their whole way of life … because if someone knew where they are who they couldn’t trust, then they wouldn’t be able to maintain what they have. And I think that’s what they want to do....

Will refuses to believe that he is sick. But since he’s been in the hospital he is eating. He’s gained some weight, yet his future is still uncertain. He’s 16 – and since his parents haven’t come forward, he could be made a ward of the state.

As for Tom, the social assistance he did get for a time has been cut off. By talking to us, he hopes the B.C. government will be moved to grant him and Will the identification they need...

The mystery of the wild "bush boys" of Vernon has finally been solved, after a man and woman from California have come forward to say they're the parents of the pair.

The couple is not from a remote part of British Columbia, but instead from a suburb of Sacramento...

"We are both ecstatic they have been found," says [father] Roger Horn. "It's been a good 10 months and we had no idea they were both up there."

The boys say they were raised in the B.C. wilderness. But Horn says they were raised in Roseville, a Sacramento suburb, and their names are Kyle and Roen.

April 2004:

For the past six months, Tami Ryder has mothered the two young men she knows as Tom and Will Green. On the weekend, after Disclosure’s first story about the boys aired, Tami spoke to a woman in California who claimed to be their real mother....

“They’ve made up this huge elaborate story,” Tami says. “I hope this is it. See, I’m still skeptical too because their story seems so believable"...

She’s learned about the boys real identities from their mother: Roen/Will, the younger one, is an extreme vegetarian who’s obsessed with food; Tom/Kyle, the older is one, a conspiracy theorist addicted to the internet.

the ‘bush boys’ were really California boys, raised in a suburb of Sacramento with an older brother named Chad and a sister named Dwan.

“We played together, we had a lot of family fun,” says Dwan. “We played games, we went to school, we went to Church. We had a really good upbringing; it was very normal, so I don’t understand what exactly happened.”

Big brother Chad didn’t understand either. He was the one who e-mailed Disclosure, telling us the truth about his brothers. They ran away to Canada, Chad says, because Will/Roen was scared of being institutionalized as a result of an eating disorder...

It turns out that back in Sacramento, Will/Roen had been battling an eating disorder for years. He had been surviving mostly on fruit. As his weight dropped, his parents begged him to eat. Rodger and Diana Horn agreed to talk to Disclosure about their family’s struggles.

April 2004:

For weeks, the Horns searched for [Roan] – and then weeks turned into months. Posters were made and Roen’s name was added to missing children’s lists. Around the same time, Tom/Kyle left home too – but not voluntarily.

“He had to leave our house because he didn’t believe in working,” says the boys’ father, Rodger. “We felt it was best for him to realize that people make their way in this world by working… So basically we kicked him out and we knew he was going to be going to Canada. He planned to live in a tent up in Canada somewhere …

What the parents didn’t know is that Kyle had found his younger brother and agreed to take him to Canada with him. They hitchhiked north. When they came to the B.C. border, they simply walked across. They eventually set up camp on the outskirts of Vernon...

Kyle and Roen’s parents are embarrassed, but not surprised. When Kyle was in high school, they say he changed. The honour student and athlete became a recluse. For four years he didn’t come out of his room. He surfed the internet and developed some pretty radical views. After 9/11, the FBI came knocking. Some of Kyle’s emails had been noticed by the authorities.

For all the lies he told in Vernon B.C., Kyle could have been charged. But the authorities there say they realize that, like his brother Roen, what Kyle really needs is help.

[The parents are] catching a plane to BC this weekend to be re-united with their sons.

Police say the two boys left California when it became clear that health authorities there were going to forcibly treat the younger boy, Roen, for an eating disorder. He's in hospital being treated for his illness.

Police say the two are in the country illegally and Federal Immigration Authorities have been notified.

An arrest warrant was dropped Tuesday for a young man who lied to authorities about growing up in an isolated cabin.

Kyle Horn, who was nicknamed with his 16-year-old brother the 'bush boys of Vernon,' has returned to the United States, immigration officials said Tuesday.

A warrant was issued for Mr. Horn, 23, on Monday when he failed to attend a meeting with immigration officials...

Roen Horn, who still suffers from an eating disorder, is being cared for in Vernon Jubilee Hospital....

July 2006:

When their Sacramento-area parents saw their story featured on television, they flew to B.C. to reclaim them and haul them home. But first, Roen Horn had to spend 33 days in hospital to add some weight to his dangerously thin 84-pound frame.

The hospital bill came to nearly $70,000 and before declaring bankruptcy, his father paid the health authority $10,000. Although news reports stated the Horn family had been reimbursed by their insurer, IHA officials complained they never passed the money on.

In addition to a $66,000 hospital bill, the IHA covered an $8,000 air ambulance bill to send Horn back to California and then spent $6,700 in legal fees to collect the whole debt. A bankruptcy court has ordered the father to repay the money in monthly installments over three years. But it remains unclear if the whole amount will ever be collected.

attempt to contact the family was unsuccessful this week as they have moved from the upscale Sacramento neighborhood to an undisclosed location. The man who answered the phone listed as their number in directory assistance said he is constantly inundated by calls from people who are owed money by them...

http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/news/story.html?id=d1670abe-40db-4666-a36c-f3f3f918d8d3

Authorities say the boys' father, Rodger Horn, convinced the U.S. insurance company that covered the expenses to give the money to him instead of the government health agency that runs the hospital. The father paid the health authority less than $9,100 before he filed for bankruptcy protection last August, said Chris Mazurkewich, acting chief operating officer for the Okanagan region.

"I'm a little annoyed that taxpayers are ripped off by the boys' father," Mazurkewich said. "I don't have any sympathy. The insurance company paid him money to pay us. He somehow paid for other things and not us."

I very much would like to thank Tami Ryder and her family and all the people of British Columbia who have generously helped Kyle and Roen.

Please understand that, although they were not telling the truth about their past, they were not trying to con you nor do they have any evil intentions. They were truly in need. They foolishly thought they could live in the Canadian mountains.

Despite his intentions, we feel Kyle has done a terrible thing which he should have to answer for. Kyle and Roen are sometimes even distrustful of their own loving family, who, like most everybody else, realizes the danger Roen is in. If you have helped Kyle and Roen in any way, we apologize that you were lied to, but I know they are genuinely grateful, as are we.

From the family website... I am guessing this part was written by Karl and/ or Roen. It's interesting to hear their take on things.

On June 10, 2003 the CPS thought it was a good idea to detain Roen. They intended to take away his freedom, and they had threatened to force-feed him vegetable oil and other toxic things. For what?

He was 15 and he was a normal weight, but they claimed he wasn't....

Tami had Roen see a doctor, which showed him a chart. The chart showed the relative risk a person was in based upon their weight. Roen was NOT at the wisest weight to be. Nevertheless, Roen was at lower risk than 20% of the population for being overweight!....

[Roen] He continued to put on weight in the hospital in Vernon. The doctors were all in agreement that Roen was not anorexic. Many people who suffer from low weight are not anorexic. Sometimes there is something physically wrong with the person's body, and it is NOT in the mind. Roen's reason was yet another one entirely. Like someone with anorexia, he decided to eat a low fat diet (for non-anorexic reasons). The lack of fat caused his brain to not "see" that he was becoming too thin, and that it would be smarter to put on more weight & eat more fats....

the police ordered that Kyle Horn be removed from Canada by his father, and thus he was separated from his brother, exactly as he had prophesied in 2002, the exact day, and a full moon (it was 4-4-4).

October 2015:

On October 7th, 2015, the Transhumanist Party will reach its first birthday. Started as way to introduce forward thinking and futurist politics into government, the party has caught on around the world and now has over a dozen national parties. The motto of the Transhumanist Party in America is: Putting Science, Health, and Technology at the Forefront of US Politics...

When I asked 28-year-old Roen Horn, a volunteer at the Transhumanist Party, what he thought of the 1-year anniversary, he replied. “I think it’s great. I hope there are many years ahead for it. The Transhumanist Party has grown the movement in a major way. It’s easily one of the biggest forces in transhumanism today.”

Article by presidential candidate Zoltan Istvan,
October 2015:

It seemed a wild, impossible dream a year ago when I told my wife and young daughters I was going to drive a bus shaped like a coffin across America to raise life extension issues...

If the bus tour seems like a wacky idea--especially for a presidential candidate--it's because it is. Of course, to transhumanists, a more wacky idea is how most of our nation largely accepts death as a way of life...

With journalists Dylan Matthews of Vox and Jamie Bartlett of The Telegraph, two separate film crews, and Transhumanist Party volunteer Roen Horn, our team of so-called modern day Merry Pranksters left off in search of adventure and new ways to promote life extension.

Kind of a funny platform for a presidential candidate that wants us to want to live forever. How does he square that with abandoning his two daughters, who will now be at a higher risk of smoking, drinking, doing drugs, having sex at earlier ages? These are all things that can shorten your life. I guess a narcissist is relieved of any responsibility toward the family he helped create.
