Georgia police: Man stabbed two children to death, then slit his own throat


COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) — A father fatally stabbed his two young children and seriously wounded three others with a hunting knife before committing suicide by slitting his own throat, police said.

The father, Clarence Lacey Moore, 24, and the five children were found in a home in south Columbus after Wednesday's attack, police said.

Clarence Smith Moore, 1, died on the floor by his bed, county coroner James Dunnavant told the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer. Two-year-old Stephan Smith Moore died in a hospital.

Three other children ranging in age from 3 to 7 underwent surgery at The Medical Center, said spokeswoman Marion Scott. Two were in critical condition and the third was in unsatisfactory condition, she said.

What a sick SOB that father is!!

There was a case like that where I live - about 12 years ago.
The father slit the throats of his 3 & 4 year old sons and also made a half a$$ed attempt to kill himself.
His innocent babies died and now he rots in prison...

It was all because his wife was leaving him.

Anyway, was he trying to kill himself or do a cover up? I am not clear on that from the title of the thread.

I know a person who did the same thing. Shawn, Shane, Sheldon and Sheena were their kids. I thought Shawn and Shane were too much alike and that the names Sheldon and Sheena just plain sucked.

Then there was my Uncle and Aunt Jack and Jan named their kids Jay, Jill and Jayne. I think it's pretty common for some people to do this....not sure why though.

Too bad people who decide to off their families and then themselves don't just off themselves first and leave everyone else alone.

Nothing freaky about your kids name all starting with the same letter. It's just that all of the Routier's names begun with a D and there are a lot of similarities between the two cases (from what I have read so far). Course I am not suggesting any link at all. Just thought it was a bit freaky that on top of all the other similarlites of the crime that both families had kids whose names all started with the same letters.

Hi all, you're right Dani it's not freaky when the children have the same initial of their first names. I know a lot of people who do that. But I think in the Routier Family it was a bit "querky" Husband, Wife, Sisters, Brothers, Animals and so on... It seems like one of Darlie's perfectionist ploys, Like we all "SHARE the LOVE"....(not)!;)

I think it has a sense of order to it. Psychiatrists would say it shows the parent doing the naming wants to keep the family close to her/him, almost in an obsessive way though not always in a negative way. This seems to be true for these parents who would kill their children rather than let them live without them. I don't think that has anything to do with Darlie's case though. Maybe in her case the sense of order stands out.

Well, now I am wondering what direction his cut on his own throat went. They say that a cut with a downward slope is found in most cases where the wound in self inflicted.
