Hi!
I was wondering how you get a link to say
something other than http...etc. and still take you
there. (I hope this makes sense.) If I knew how,
I'd make my new siggy verse a link at the same time.
Thanks!
Ariel

Hi there - yes it makes sense :)
Like - check out this thread (http://websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20155)
There are 2 ways to do it. The way I use most is with the icon above the posting box that looks like this http://websleuths.com/forums/images/editor/createlink.gif
First have your link ready and 'copy' it
Then type the words you want to display like "check out this thread"
Left click your mouse and drag your curser over the words so they are highlighted
Then Click on this icon http://websleuths.com/forums/images/editor/createlink.gif and in the box that pops up - paste in the link and click ok
=====================
The second way to do it is to type
url= (with a square bracket in front [ )
then paste the link (touching the = )
example url=http://www.blahblah.whatever (with [ in front of url)
at then end of the address close it off with another ]
Then type what you want to be displayed "check out this link" and type [/url]
This is an example using { instead of [ so you can see what I mean (If I used [ then it would actually do it - instead of showing the format)
{url=http://www.whatever.whatever}Check out this Link{/url}
Hope this makes sense to you! Try it!

First click on reply to message, and then you will see the options across the top, below the title, and above the message field. Click the little blue earth, that says Insert HyperLink
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v491/MissingProfiles/Other/InsertHyperLink.jpg
This little box will appear and you need to name the link, type that in, as shown
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v491/MissingProfiles/Other/NameTheHyperLink.jpg
Then hit OK on the gray box, and another window will open that starts with http://
Make sure and delete that first http:// before adding your link, or the hyper links won't work, as it will print http://http://
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v491/MissingProfiles/Other/InsertURLforHyperLink.jpg
Once the URL is entered, hit OK on the gray box, and it will close and insert the hyper link into your message, like this.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v491/MissingProfiles/Other/HyperLinkCodeOnMsg.jpg
The code is [*URL= ] [/URL*] <--minus the stars
So if your link is www.projectjason.org and you titled it read more here, it would appear like this on your message field [*URL=http://www.projectjason.org]read more here[/URL*] <--minus the stars
Because of copyright laws, I mostly do not print entire articles, unless prior permission was granted by the author. In that case, many times I name the link (read more here OR Full story here) I'm a Texan, but currently in Germany, so that's why some of the text from my screen is in German. :)
I hope this helps. If you have any questions, pls feel free to ask.
Looks like most have it figured out, already. You can practice on this thread, as that's what it's here for.

Wow - you guys are linking fiends now!! LOL :woohoo:
Good Job, I was hoping you would understand my explanation :waitasec:
it is hard to give examples when you can't actually put in the square brackets :)
You all did a great job - have fun!

I didn't know where to put this so a Mod would see it, but every night I log out like I always have, and when I come back in the morning, most often I don't have to log back in because it appears to already have been done.
Strange, and of course I don't mind. Just didn't want you to think I never log out at the close of day! ;}

I also checked the "remember me" box so I'm automatically logged in when I get here. :) You have to "be here" for your nick to show.
