Philadelphia Police issued an Amber Alert for a child abducted from her mother at knifepoint in Northwest Philadelphia Thursday. The three-month-old baby was kidnapped near West Olney Avenue.

Police questioned a 17-year-old mother who said her child, identified as Zaya Young, was taken from her at knifepoint.

According to Lt. Norman Davenport of the Northeast Detectives, the mother was walking her daughter home from the babysitter when a female allegedly approached her with a knife just before noon on Tuesday. The suspect then grabbed the mother’s baby and drove off in a dark vehicle.

”This is scary because the whole thing is you don’t know where the child is,” said the mother’s aunt, Darlene Young, adding, “The child could be anywhere, the child could be hurt.

Zaya was last seen wearing a pink and white striped hat, a pink jacket, and white socks. She is 25 to 30 inches tall and weighs about 20-pounds.

I hope it was okay to post it this way if not please fix it for me. I do not start many threads here. I think the only thing that needs to be fixed is the remove part of the article..TOS for WS says that we can only post part of the news article due to copyright laws...

Thanks for the alert...I hope this baby is found safe....

Wonderful news!!! The baby has been found alive, but is being treated at a hospital....interesting part of it though:

Police earlier told The Philadelphia Inquirer that their investigation was being hampered because the mother gave investigators varying accounts of what happened.

sharon, I hate to be suspicious, but I had the same thoughts. Having been a 17 yr old mother myself, I understand the stresses of being a teenage mom (I was lucky I had a good shoulder on my head and a wonderful support system!!)...my first thought was she couldn't handle it so she sold the baby, gave it away or did something to it.

Then I found this...how weird...why would she leave the baby on the sidewalk after this women attacked her??!!!

The two got into an argument, and the woman began threatening Young with the knife, Davenport said. Young returned to the sitter's home, leaving the child in her stroller on the sidewalk. When Young returned moments later, the stroller was there but Zaya was gone, Davenport said.

at least the baby is alive.

if this turns out to be something that the mother did, hopefully they can help her out and give her the support to raise a baby.

I think something is wrong with the age or something... A 20lb 3 month old is quite odd !!

I was wrong!!!
Me too. Philly is our local news, and when it came on, I said to my husband "Oh, no. I don't think this one is going to have a happy ending." When he asked why, I mentioned how convenient it was for the mother to say that the woman that took her baby was wearing Muslim attire, saving her the need for any detailed description. Then LE mentioned that there were inconsistencies in her story. Yet, lo and behold, she was telling the truth. Thank God, and I'm so happy that this baby is safely back home.
