Andy Walker woke from a sound sleep Saturday to little girls screaming outside his bedroom window. As the yelling became nearer and louder, he got up to see what the matter was. It was 2:30 a.m.
Across the street from his West Valley City home, Walker saw the sisters, a 3-year-old and a 1-year-old. Both were crying; the younger one was throwing up on the ground.
“They were just screaming bloody murder,” he said. “They were terrified.”

Thank goodness!!
I wonder if the woman's brother will EVER allow her to watch his two little girls again. I'm an Aunt myself... and I'd NEVER fall asleep with two babies like that in the house. Unless I knew ALL doors were locked & they were SAFE while I was napping.
Geeeeeeeeze!
I do like happy endings though. ;)

" Chen interviewed the aunt and said there was no indication she intentionally neglected the girls. "
So you have to INTENTIONALLY neglect (to leave undone or unattended to especially through carelessness) children to be held accountable? What kind of an idiot thinks "The kids called out Daddy, so he must have picked them up." I mean, if Dad wasn't concerned on Saturday afternoon, that would mean auntie should have had them at that time, too, so she should not have expected him to pick them up on Friday night. Either that, or Dad's a loser, too.

All I can say is that I was an aunt for years before becoming a mother. Even w/o any maternal instincts, I took watching my nieces and nephews seriously. I knew I was responsible for these children and never once did I let them out of my sight. I can't for the life of me understand how these small children were able to wander out of the house at that hour. What will it take for people to understand that they need to secure their homes????

Dang...I even watch ADULTS walk to the car when someone is picking them up! I can't imagine thinking that just because the child said daddy that daddy was picking them up and leaving it at that
I sure am glad nothing happened to them...makes me think of the two children in GA.

Actually I have heard of this many times when people were babysitting for children whose parents worked at night. Esp when it is family. Aunt may have been working full time (or not :)) Aunt probably was caring for the girls to help because of family. The normal routine would be for her to bed the kids down, then she would go to bed. Since father worked nights, it was probably a routine for him to come in and get the girls, lock up and leave. Since aunt probably had to get up the next day, they may have worked this way out. There was probably only a couple hours between aunt going to bed and brother coming. What they didn't think about was the girls getting out on their own, or God forbid that someone would choose to come in the home at that time for criminal mischief. Not really a case of neglect so much as a case of thoughtlessness. The kids were cared for, vulnerable- but cared for.
