I just saw this case for the first time yesterday. It has take me since then to read up on everything. Very interesting case indeed. Very strange behavior from hubby also if you ask me. I'm not afraid to jump in, just don't have much to offer at this point. But, I'm glad I was invited!;)

If you have any questions, just hollar out and someone will help out.

I am a frequent lurker on the site. I have become fascinated with this case because I attended Southern Virginia Univeristy a looong time ago when it was Southern Seminary Womens College. A connection that small sucked me in. Go figure.
I haven't posted anything yet because it is an enormous amount of information to take in. I have hardly begun to process it all. I can't even form an intelligent question that hasn't been covered.
Thank you for the kind invitation. :blowkiss:

If you're interested in converting time from a different country, do a web search for "time zone conversion". There are a ton of them but I don't have the time right now to figure out which one is best in order to post it.
I hope to get back in time to chat with you all later this morning! :)

Hi everyone. I am one of the many who has been interested in the developements of this case. I worked with Raven almost 3 years ago. I didn't know him extremely well, because he worked as an outside rep. in the Virginia area. I did spend a week with him in the DC area visiting customers. From what I knew of him and what people here in the office have told me about him, your observations of his character seem to be pretty close.
I would love to see some developements in this case. Don't know if I can contribute much, but I am interested to see where this goes.

New members often bring new insights, ideas, and observations....and in this case, we can use them all!
Perhaps when you have some time, you can go to the general discussion thread, or elsewhere, and post any particular recollections you might have about Raven and/or Janet? As I've said before, I think that each and every piece of information we have, especially firsthand observation, is valuable - if for no other reaon, than to provide insight(s) on what makes a person "tick."
Thanks, and again, welcome!

Like several others, I've been "lurking" for quite some time, and decided to make myself "known". I played soccer with Janet at SVU and am completely saddened and dumbfounded by this whole thing. I knew Raven, also, but not well, since they were living apart while she was at school. I am so grateful to all of you for giving all of us something to grasp onto, since we are hearing nothing from anywhere else. I hope to get more involved later, but since there have been no developments in MONTHS... I don't really have anything to say. Thanks again for keeping Janet and her family in your hearts and prayers.

I’ve been following this case since the day after Janet was murdered and read all the media coverage that I could find. I was reading Mr. AG’s site which led me to this one. I’ve been lurking for over a month. I’ve been searching everyday for even just a tiny bit of information that says Raven didn’t do this. I do not want Raven to be a killer. The thought makes me sick to my stomach. I haven’t ever posted because I need to believe he is innocent and the little I know about him makes me question this. However, I know you all are just trying to find justice for Janet. So, keep up the good work & here goes nothing……..
Ok, here is what I know about Raven. I only met him through mutual friends, and we only hung out for a night. He was very charming and we all had lots of fun. I really liked him. He stayed in touch with my friend and even set them up with one of his friends. He used to work for HP before going to Eurosport so he is definitely computer savvy. Anyway, I would imagine it to be very difficult to sale computers and equipment if he wasn’t. It’s rumored that another one of his friends who also use to worked at HP was let go for suspicion of embezzlement and it was the same type of thing……..taking equipment and turning a personal profit. However if it is true, maybe Raven knew about it and knew that he was never arrested so he thought that he could get away with it. Who knows what Raven was thinking? I remember when he got the job with Eurosport and how excited he was to be working in the soccer industry. I also remember when he and Janet split and he said they were for sure getting a divorce. Then not too long after they decided to give it another go because she was pregnant. My friend has also told me that Raven said that he struggled with depression sometimes (don’t you love the he said that she said that he said????? Sorry).
I was completly shocked to read that his mother was/is a welfare mom because he went to one of the richest high schools in the sate of Utah. Only 8% of the students are on free or reduced lunches compared to the 23% state average. http://www.greatschools.net/modperl/other/ut/408 (http://www.greatschools.net/modperl/other/ut/408) Also, there is really only one neighborhood that I can even imagine having state assisted housing in it (in school boundaries). I can understand his taste to live the good life; having gone to that same school. The homecoming queen is paraded around the football field riding in a convertible Porsche or some very expensive fancy vehicle owned by a parent of the student driving it. Kids get brand new top of the line cars to drive to school when they turn 16. Kids spend $400.00 on a casual dance. I would imagine it was very hard to watch his friends get all of these things and know he could never have them. And, I’m sure this all attributed to his financial down fall and why material things seem to be so important.
On the “Good Mormon” front, this might not just be someone that he pretends to be. Maybe the “Good Mormon” is the guy that he wishes to be. If he was making amends for the embezzlement & alledged affairs (on the spiritual side) he would definitely be feeling remorse because it’s part of the repentance process. My hat’s off to NCBanker who has done a wonderful job in keeping everyone informed and answering question about the LDS church. However, just a little clarification that many members don’t know. A Bishop is actually in charge of the welfare of all people that live within his ward boundaries members (active & inactive) and non-members alike. As members of the church we are like a family and we try to “bear one another’s burdens, that they may be light; mourn with those that mourn; and comfort those that stand in need of comfort”. http://scriptures.lds.org/query/marked?id=1120084020846 (http://scriptures.lds.org/query/marked?id=1120084020846) We are also taught to forgive all men their trespasses. And I’m sure this is why members of Raven’s ward were willing to help him despite the committed felony embezzlements (if they even had any knowledge at all). Sorry this is so very very long!! I should’ve piped up a long time ago.

Where is the media attention on this case Reporter Girl? What was Raven wearing when he went to play soccer? Did he have a soccer bag? How long was he at the soccer game? Who saw him there? How did he act?
That's it for me right now, but I'll have more for sure

I wish there was more out there in the media, but I am not working this story, I grew up with Raven and his family and have known him for a very long time. I only know what I've read here and what I've heard from my family, and Raven's family really hasn't reached out to anyone in the neighborhood. They are staying very closed up about it all, which can you blame them?

...and, yes i do "blame them", raven....his family..........if they are NOT reaching out in some way,.... let's presume they feel he's innocent, ( and he may be ) .......why are they NOT contacting media? NOT asking for help in some fashion ? NOT screaming from the rooftops looking for the killer ???NO-ONE is pounding the pavement asking for justice ?! NO-ONE is proclaiming raven's innocence?! why???????????NO-ONE is demanding answers of LE??
...THAT is what bothers me..................NO-ONE is supporting raven.........publicly.............does he, and his family, think that by silence this case.................a MURDER case...................will just go away ?

Lauriej-
Well, that's exactly what I think they're thinking. Often times when a family encounters something tramatic where there is a lot of speculation, the family closes up. It's not just to the media, from what my family has said, they are closing up to everyone.
I know firsthand that this is NOT the best way to handle things like this. If they don't give the media and public some kind of information, it leaves it up to the media to speculate, always worse than speaking for yourself. I don't know what to say. But, I can say, I've worked with a lot of families in tramatic situations and you either get one of two responses--closing up completely, or speaking out a lot.
I'm a long time lurker on this board. I have nothing to add - just waiting to see how or if things develop. I suppose when the DNA comes back ? the LE will either arrest the husband or completely exonerate him ? It's just a waiting game, now isn't it ?
Does he have a lawyer ? I gather he had one for the embezzlement charges...is it the same one he would have retained for the murder of his wife ? to protect his "rights" ?

Good posts L L & S
This is such a perplexing case in which the LE seems to be taking a LONG time to get down to the nitty gritty. Perhaps Raven is innocent - but he sure isn't shouting it from the roof tops is he ? He sure isn't acting like a man who really cares what happened to his wife. More interested in'getting" on with his life ? Sheesh, if anything happened to me, I would hope my husband would show a little more concern.

And for encouraging us to be patient. We've definitely gotten to the point where we can't think of much else to do but it seems like forever waiting for something to happen. Hi. I've been a lurker for months and months but my curiosity has finally pushed me into posting. This is my first time posting so I hope I don't do anything wrong! I don't want to get into trouble!
There have been a couple of things that I cannot get out of my mind. First, when I began reading about this case (I did not know Janet or Raven), my first thought was "I bet she was pregnant and her husband killed her." Of course, we learned that she was in fact pregnant.
Second thing I wanted to discuss (and maybe it has been discussed and I've missed it - if that's the case, be patient with me, I'm new!) I went to the Tears for Janet website. I immediately noticed that her married name was not on the home page. Janet was described as everything but a "wife."
If (and I don't know this to be a fact) her family is responsible for the website doesn't it speak volumes as to why her married name wasn't added and there was no mention of her being the wife of Raven? (Although, there are pictures of Janet and Raven in the gallery).
I haven't read where her family has publicly accused him, but sometimes what isn't spoken is more important than what is said.

Welcome to WS Kimiden. Thank you for coming out to play!
I also noticed the things you did about tearsforjanet.com. However, in the tributes and memorial section, some of Janet's friends mention her relationship with Raven as a positive thing. I don't think the family is responsible for all of the content on the site, but I really don't know. And as far as I am aware, the family has never been asked by the media to comment on Raven's innocence/guilt.
I've always found it interesting, that Raven--if innocent--never thought to do such a memorial website himself. He definitely had a very active online life (as the great sleuthers on this site have uncovered). He had a whole page on his private site dedicated to his stupid VX.
Anyway...thanks for posting. Look forward to hearing more from you!

I understand that the website is a work in progress and my observation was not intended to be negative in any way. It is a beautiful memorial!
My point was that she was described in so many ways, including a mother, BUT NOT as a wife. I couldn’t help but wonder if they felt a sense of betrayal by her husband and chose not to include that part of her life in the memorial.
My thinking is, if my family were to write a memorial for me, they would include the part of my life that I shared with my husband. But, if my family felt that my husband betrayed me in some manner, they would exclude that portion of my life, as it wouldn’t be a positive reflection of how they would want to remember me.
I hope I’m explaining myself in a clear manner . . .
I was just wondering if there was an unspoken sentiment that the family would rather not have her remembered as the wife of Raven Abaroa.

You explain yourself very well Kimiden.... no worries there at all. R and G and you both have a point. I suppose they could talk about all of his many affairs, embezzeling, and all his "big boy" toys. I don't know. We'll have to wait and see how it evolves.
But you both are right.... it does speak volumes. Oh and I looked further... Raven is mentioned 4 times on the website, not including the media reports or the photos. But you're absolutely correct, it's not much. It surprised me to see so many pictures of him in the gallery. Isn't Kaiden a adorable. He has grown so much since the baby photos that we've all seen were posted.
The whole thing is so terribly sad.

Bet everyone is grateful I had no hand in the making of Tears For Janet lol....there would have been less pictures with The Raven in it and there would have been no mention in it of his name whatsoever, but that's just me.
I was going to sign the guest book, but I just don't know how. I seem to only know how to snap and go off, and I don't want to sully the beautiful site, with my thoughts, theories and loathing of The Raven.
I wonder why RAVEN did not bother to build a Memorial Website, or even bother to post anything about the MURDER of his Wife and Unborn Child. After all, he has made SEVERAL sites himself and is internet savvy enough to talk about HIMSELF enough in the past!
To the family and friends of Janet who made the Memorial Website, thank you, it's wonderful someone did this and again, I'm so very sorry for your loss.

What I find interesting is that Raven hasn't bothered to do anything special for Janet.
I also noticed that too regarding not much about Raven, but I think it has a tribute section and i guess he could submit his own tribute, like others had. The main thing I'm trying to say is the site is about Janet and not about Raven. Raven had many months to make up a site for his Murdered Wife and unborn child, and didn't bother. The site is TearsforJanet not TearsforRaven and if he did a site for Janet it would probably be nothing but him whining about his life, like all his other sites.
He seemed to move on with his life, without a second glance at Janet and his unborn child. It took how long before Raven started dating? Not long.
I notice that Raven hasn't bothered taking a polygraph, or even DENYING involvement in her Murder, so for that reason, I'm glad that the site doesn't seem to have Raven all over it. I had that enough in the past with Ravenstree and his other sites.

..i don't find it so much "interesting", more along the lines of disgusting and unbelievable......
..'the raven' obviously has the capabilities to put something out there , he did quite well on the 'ravenstree' site............
..if innocent.........( yes, i'm gagging even typing the word) ....wouldn't he have been all ove LE, demanding justice, dying to know who could have possibly done this to his loving wife ? yet we've never seen the "OH MY GOD , who did this ????????????????????and WHY?????" from raven............we've just never seen anything at all............
..he continues to move forward in his own life, completely forgetting the past.......
..i would have at least expected, ( innocent or guilty ) that he would have posted a GLOWING triute on the tearsforjanet site.......for appearances sake if nothing else........
..that's your defense raven ? zero ? zilch, nada, nothing ?

Welcome Caffeinatd,
The Embezzlement Charges were due to The Raven embezzling from Eurosports, which happens to be located in Orange County.
The Murder of beautiful Janet Marie and her unborn child happened in Durham, NC, Durham County.
The Raven left the State of North Carolina quite quickly after the Murder of Janet and her unborn child, and he moved to Sandy, Utah to go live with his Mother, Karyn and her husband, Jim Bolton, much prior to the hearing on his embezzlement case.
This was in a different county and the Judge could not consider the fact that Raven's wife had so mysteriously been murdered in April 2005. I looked into this myself, and had the Judge been contacted prior by an outside source, he would have had to recluse himself from the case, so I dropped it after finding out the legal aspects of this.
In August, Raven flew back home, like a thief in the night. His case was scheduled to be heard at the end of a week in August, and somehow the case got moved up a few days, with no notice. We luckily figured out something weird was going on when it disappeared from the docket and made sure there was a reporter waiting outside for him. You can look through the threads and perhaps find the ridiculous interview he provided, and notice the look of shock on his face when he realized, he wasn't able to sneak into North Carolina and out without being noticed.
He worked out a plea agreement, and truthfully, don't know if the Murder of Janet would have mattered in this even if the Judge was aware.
Unfortunately, Law Enforcement had no legal grounds to hold him, just because his wife was murdered. As of this date, no POI or Suspect has been named, but obviously, if you have lurked here for a while, you would see that I am of the full belief that he is STONE COLD GUILTY!
Right now, it seems like a circumstantial evidence case and perhaps LE is holding out for more information to be sure to be able to go for First Degree Murder.
Again, welcome to Websleuths, and please chime in if you need any help finding information here, please feel free to post it and someone will be happy to help you with any questions you may have.

..i'm certain that LE sees exactly what we all do, but don't want to risk 'double jeopardy' in bringing this case to trial until it's a "done deal--guilty in the 1st degree "......
..given that LE has not named any POI's or suspects, and the tight time-frame of TOD , raven puts no-one but himself right at the crime scene ..
..his 911 call, "my wife is upstairs---------hurt---maybe shot?------"call was ridiculous and callous then.....(his wife was upstairs and "hurt"?-------while he's apparently downstairs and NOT trying to help her ?) and even moreso as details unfolded...
..she had not been shot------------she had been stabbed-----------and was not "hurt", she was very much dead when raven made the 911 call.........
..surely even he could have made the distinction..............so why all of the lies from raven right from the start ?

I wish they would release that 911 call!!!I was just thinking that myself. I want to know two things:
1) Was Raven making the call as he was running back upstairs or was he standing downstairs while talking to 911?
2) Was Raven TOLD to go get crying Kaiden from his crib?
lauriej
03-23-2006, 02:44 AM
oh yeah, there's a ton of things i'd like to know regarding the 911 call........
..was he calm ? or frantic ?
..calling from the house? the yard? upstairs with janet ? on her phone, or his, (which he said he had left out in the truck ?)
..was he covered in blood when LE arrived? as he should have been, since he should have been trying to help her.......
..was kaiden also covered in blood ?, from raven, when he grabbed him from the crib..........surely instinct would have had him do so........
..did the 911 operator 'walk him/talkhim' through steps to help his wife, "who had been "hurt",possibly shot'? (as raven had said )............and if so is there proof that he tried at all ?
..was he upstairs with janet when LE arrived, holding his dying wife and showing emotion....................or outside , as if waiting for a pizza delivery ?

EWW I would love to hear that 911 call myself.
I would like to hear the 911 call and see what he said when they got there. I would love to know all the questions they asked of him, and exactly what time he left the Police Station. I would like to know why they didn't polygraph him that night, I would like to know when the first mention of having an attorney was.
So many things. I would like to know why he told the Man who picked him up from the Police Station to tell Janet's famiy that Janet committed suicide. What was his motivation for that? I would like to know many many things, including why he lied so desperately on his Monster resumes. I would like to know exactly how he explained himself to the family and how they can believe him, though he's been known to lie desperately in the past, I would like to know why they believe his innocence, when he has been known to have affairs and he's a thief.
I would like to know if he had indeed embezzled in the past from his previous employer and the exact reason why he was let go from Cingular.
I would like to know why he lies, denies and has gone on with his lilfe with no cares in the world.
I would like to know why he Murdered Janet and the baby she was carrying.

I'll have to check back through the threads sometime when I get a chance. I could have sworn that someone said that Kaiden was still in his crib until Raven was instructed to get him. That's what I heard also JG. Kaiden was crying and Raven was instructed to get Kaiden. But was this another one of Raven's explanations.
But then again, most of the things Raven has stated has been lies, which have been proven. The thing is I don't know if Raven knows who he told what to anymore, we have so many inconsistent statements from the guy, that it gets blurred.
Hot, Cold, shot, stabbed, alive, dead, on her knees on her back, but there are records of these things and this murderer will not get away with it, imo.
