Yes, Idaho is a death penalty state. They don't do it often, but they have it available. They probably don't see a criminal like this often either. Here is a link to the DP info and it defaults to Texas but just click on Idaho on the map:

They only have 20 people on death row and have only executed one person since the DP was reinstated. Wow. Sure is different from Texas!

They only have 20 people on death row and have only executed one person since the DP was reinstated. Wow. Sure is different from Texas!Different from Texas, but not so different from a lot of other states. Texas has far and away the highest use of the death penalty of any state in this country. I'm not saying that's a good thing or a bad thing, just pointing out what the statistics are. The statistics say that Texas executes a lot more people than any other state. The statistics also say that Idaho is comparable to other states in the NW, and to many states in other parts of the country.
IMO, a lot of executions ultimately occur because the nation's correctional systems seem to have revolving doors on them, particularly where child molesters are concerned. People who have molested children are released back out into society again and again, and their crimes escalate. It seems to take the commission of some horrific child abduction/rape/murder to get one of them off the street permanently (either by excution or permanent incarceration, depending on what state they commit the crime in and other factors). This should NOT be the case. We need stiffer penalties for child molesters, and we need to STOP putting repeat offenders back out on the streets over and over until a murder can be pinned on one of them. Releasing these vermin is like turning a dog with rabies loose because of some notion that confining it is "cruel." I couldn't care less about the "cruelty" of keeping sex offenders permanently locked up. What concerns me is preventing cruelty to children and their families. As long as society "punishes" these offenders with a slap on the wrist and sets them free to molest again, more children will suffer needlessly and many will die. That is NOT acceptable.
That is my opinion on the matter.

A direct link to the 18 on death row. These guys (and one gal) are the worst of the worst. Each of these crimes were particularly heinous:

As I said in another post ,He wont be executed in our lifetime.
In my personal opinion if there was ever a case that justified Idaho's death penalty this is it.
Of course so did a Child killer named Stuart who went on Idaho's death row in 1981.
He waited all these years until a supreme court ruling reduced his sentence on a technicailty.
He's now in general population. His victim a 4 year old boy is unfortunately still dead.
