287565 - Numbers tell tales

I came across a site that talked about JED's Time magazine covers, which there were several of them that he made. Apparently, there are the numbers: 287565 along with a faint signature, and a small balloon saying "numbers tel tales". My question is this... can we figure out what this means.... could it be his key code? A tiny thing he tells his friends to look for to access this private encrypted journal... or a simple and strange way to glorify his prison numbers... I haven't a clue... could be a very short version of coordinates for a GPS unit... some have supposed a zip code... but it's too long... maybe a code number for a word that is the code key for PGP encryptor... Just thought I'd mention it, maybe nothing... could be something.

Rochert, MN is approx a 1 1/2 hr. drive from Fargo, ND. Are there two people he may have killed there? It's a long shot I know....

Does anyone know much about numerology? I know just a little tiny bit - enough to be dangerous. But I know that there are many ways to come up with numbers that have meaning to your life. Like my number based on my name is my expression number and it's 1. But my date of birth number is my life's path number and it's a 6. So the numbers come out based upon your own personal name and birthdate. I'm wondering if those numbers have to do with numerology.

Could it refer be a code referring to words- either in his blog or in a book or even lyrics to a song somewhere. 287565- second word, 8th word, 7 th word. Or page 2- 8th word, pg. 7 5th word etc.
I am glad to see that someone did the alphabetical code, that was my first thought.
JED3 did play games in his blog, I saw where he had offered $100 if someone had found something in his blog- no one made claim to it except his neighbor Joni- and he refused to pay her, as he stated that he told her where to find it (I think it was a frog).

But I also don't think a sexual deviant like Duncan has enough self control to confine his sick urges to something that fits a numeric scheme as some have suggested about the numbers. If fear of going back to prison isn't enough to prevent him from offending, surely numbers would not stop him.

Some here think he was involved in many other murders but I don't think so. I believe he was slowly giving in to his urges and got caught for something relatively minor and decided to give up trying to control himself. It was just not going to work. He was obsessed with trying to be the guy who could fit into society -- the reformed guy he described in his blog -- but in truth, the same old fantasies were there and even though he didn't rape and murder those two little boys, he could very well go back to prison just for that. So he decided to just chuck it all -- school, work, the life he had built for himself -- because it just was not going to work. It was all going to fall apart sooner or later, so he may as well go crazy, do what he really wanted, and be able to relive it as long as he lives. He spent decades in prison doing that, so he was used to it.

Nowhere in that crazy guy is there a place for picking out victims based on numbers or anything like that!

It seems to me that maintaining the facade of normalcy as he did must take a huge amount of effort for a guy like this. In addition to the typical amount of energy that anyone would have to put in to go to school and hold down a job, he had to expend a lot more to constantly fight those urges, knowing that a tiny slip could send him back to prison. Whining in his blog gave him a little bit of an outlet for his frustration, but not enough to keep him going forever. The whole thing must have been exhausting, and eventually it became too much. When he had that slip in Detroit Lakes, he must have known where it was all leading, but maybe he managed to delude himself that he was going to wiggle out of it until he was charged the following March. Those molestation charges seem to have been the straw that broke the camel's back. At that point, the writing was on the wall. He knew he was headed back to prison no matter what, so he decided, as you say, to go out with a bang. And he seems to have found a way to do just that! :furious:

I'm still pondering this one a great deal, for some reason I still think it may be a "keyring" code for PGP encryption. It's just my thinking that there are rings where these pedophiles go to talk or swap pictures. I think it may be a hidden code for his fellow buddies to locate and use to decipher all these encrypted messages I keep finding on the internet (some 20 or so that come up with reference to "Spyder", "Spyder s. Byte", "jetd63", "jet" and a few others that have slipped my mind at present) and the "keyring" for his journal he refers to as well. I don't think he was being arogant either when he says it's uncrackable either. I did some research on PGP and it is essentially impossible to "break" and the higher the bit encryptor, the harder it is to break. I think he was just what it seems he was, very computer savy... he knew what he was doing... but unfortunately... he's leaving behind a nice digital trail of things... dates... thoughts... locations... this code may be unbreakable... but you leave a long enough trail, someone will stumble on it. I just hope the professionals are all over all this... doing the links... cross checking as much as possible... there are just too many leads here to not find something... I really believe he has others out there that know exactly what he's done and he knows things about them... but it is just my speculation... the other ideas... numerology... i doubt... but it could be... people with unstable and stable minds believe in a lot of things.... but i don't think it is in this case... I've twisted these every which way to Sunday, and there is no end to the possibilities!

The tel page linked earlier... oh I'm lost in a lot of the technical stuff, but they offer unlimited web space & unlimited email, that might interest JED.

Excellent idea about victims ages.
I wondered if this guy had a safe deposit box or storage facility somewhere around Fargo N.D. Searches of his home came up with something like 7 cameras. He video taped the boys from Minn. He was smart enough to realize that his home could be searched, so I would think he would want to have any "trophies" pictures and etc. kept off site. Could the number be for a storage locker or storage facility where he kept things he didn't want found? Or a safe deposit box? Are there any facilities that might match up with tel or with tales?

I think storage space rentals are definitely Possible....I am hoping that someone can put a bulletin out to all STORAGE PLACE FACILITIES in all of the states this man has lived or been known to "frequent" and check their lists, as this Monster could have paid a full year of rental charges for any storage unit, thus getting away with not being "recognized" as being able to come and go as he pleases....

I sure hope that we can help figure this part out of it much sooner than later.

I am not giving up on these possibilites and I have one more too...and this one needs to be reported to authorities.

I have been looking at his website for a couple of days, and it looks like the black & white pic with "who is this?" that comes up is a pic of him and his cat. When I first saw it the right eye looks like a cat eye and the left is possibly his. Just a thought. Isn't there a saying about cat eyes? Maybe wayoff, but just a thought.

Just because the numbers ment something to him in 2002, doesn't mean they still do. The numbers appear to be stamped (I originally assumed they were doodled on a magazine or something like I often do with my various passwords and such). The author states that hovering a mouse over the picture of the numbers, showed the phrase "Numbers tell tales.". The 2 can bearly be seen and the 7 and 5's are lower than the other numbers. This can mean that he just lowered the odd numbers, or that it's a way of breaking up the numbers into 28, 75, 6 and 5. My initial thought, since he's a programmer, was that the 2 signified binary code and the remaining number, 87565, could be converted into binary code "10101011000001101".:confused:

Well there is his encrypted blog which is supposed to contain pictures.
But I also question if this guy may have had a storage locker or storage container in or around Fargo. Or perhaps a safe deposit box.
He took video of the Minn. kids. When his home was searched they found 7 cameras. He knew his home would be subject to searches, so I don't think he would have kept anything incriminating there. But he had all of those cameras for some reason.
He obviously knew there was a chance that someone would stumble across his blog- otherwise why bother with an encrypted one.
So where else could he have kept incriminating pictures and trophies of his deeds?

28-75-65 Everywhere I've worked this would be a combination to a safe!! Up there someone said that, wow, good idea!

I think JED is not half as smart as he thinks he is, left HS in 10th grade, 1.7 gpa, now he's a computer genius, with honors in college? My wild guess is he bought his college grades, and is an electronics/camera/video nut, but couldn't encrypt his own grocery list too well. ($100 & Depends - single guy - OR diapers & baby food / formula / supplies?) So, I think I over analyze him... I think he will be "simple" in his hidden clues.

Something else came to mind... earth (woods) / fire (burning victims) / water (disposal - scuba) / wind (learn to sky dive - disposal) Is that all the elements? He was the 4th born, what is the 4th element??

So, I'm a hick from the backwoods... done some "off the grid" camping, days out, nothing but trees in sight. JED I think would be be most comfortable in the deepest woods... no people to oppress him, no ppl to listen or see... plenty of privacy to record on video, or do whatever his sick mind wanted to.

Here, we have vast wilderness, not accessible to man... some areas have dirt lanes cut into the dense woods, up the mountainsides... called "Fire Lanes" each has a #... sign at road "Fire Lane 123"... then we have Fire Ponds, for the pumper truck to fill at, then head out the fire lane, in the event of a wildfire, they can get closer to the heart of it, rather than try to fight a blaze from 200 miles away... fire ponds also are marked "Fire Pond 123". Maybe JED used Fire Lanes to access deep woods, I'd be curious if they use this system in that area of the country too?

I believe, just my own wild guess, somewhere he's got a list of coordinates, locations, etc... I don't think they will be extremely difficult for LE to "decode"... I think it will be like an 8 yr. old treasure map clue list. I think that is how they found Dylan so fast... I know Shasta, miracle child - bless her soul - has been an extraordinary witness, in great detail, BUT I don't think she could pinpoint that one spot in all of the Lolo Forest... I think there was a map or obvious information JED left in the Jeep... Was it just for this trip? Or did they uncover a rat's nest?

I'm pretty sure they found Dylan so fast, because JED had a Montana Atlas with the back roads listed, with him. He'd circled seven Lookout Towers in pencil on the map, where he allegedly planned to be able to stay, comfortably out of the elements. Unbeknownst to him, only one of those lookout towers actually still exists today. Obviously he was using an older back roads atlas.

So, between his map and what Shasta was able to tell them, I gathered it was like putting 2 + 2 together.

Someone up there suggested it looked like a safe combination, and someone else mentioned a storage facility. Put those two ideas together, and it might be a combination lock, that one must affix to their public storage container.

If the numbers tell a story, I'm wondering if each number represents the number of his victims, each year (since he has been in North Dakota) he has been out of jail. Something like that sort of "story".

The telephone number is a good one. I was wondering if he had a phone number, that someone could dial up, and the caller could hear a recorded message (tale) from him. Possibly about a latest conquest.

Hi wonderful sleuths...

We had a couple of people post about the numbers theory, but I did post this earlier today, and re-posted it again, if this is what you were referring to.

This guys has GOT to have a storage unit or units to keep his equipment that NOONE else knows about (yet) or can see except Duncan while on his travels thru the states.

I did mention on another post about Duncan possibly using a satellite notebook while out camping as it is the perfect tool ( in his eyes) for him to take with him while out in the outdoors. Geocaching while traveling seems like something he may have been doing....checking my dates out now.


We have to truly account for his timeline, and if there is any VIDEO of this supposed "grocery shopping" trip to CashWise, along with his receipts...

Oh yes, and the reason I believe that Duncan mentioned he spent more than $100.00 on food for (1) person is becasue the monster was on the run prior, and there was no food in his house to eat.


I can spend that amount of money on groceries no problem and feed myself and my family comfy for a short while, but this guy does not need $100.00 in groceries unless his cabinets and refrigerator were empty prior to returning back home and blogging in his blog January 2004.

Which leads me to my next post, after checking my sources first...

I think I can safely say there are definitely no 'fire lanes' anywhere around northern Idaho. I don't know if you've seen the terrain out here, bu for the most part, you'd have to be an elk, deer or a billy goat to scale it. ;)

When we have fires in the forest, they are put out by planes and smokejumpers. Not firetrucks. lol!
No forest rangers living near me, at least not that I'm aware of.

I've not been there, but grew up in similar terrain ;) So yes I understand what you're saying, we have thousands of acres no man could touch, so to speak. Same here, planes... in the old days these were just dirt roads, logging access, to get as far as they could... they can't access the mountain top, but they cut a path to get as close as possible... while those planes fly, there are still firefighters on the ground, there are still firetrucks pumping water from the edges... that's what the fire lanes are for... get to the heart of it from the air... get as close as you can on the ground... I'm actually thinking of fire lanes in reference to the Lolo Forest or any other area Duncan might have gotten off the beaten path... Every road in the Nat'l. Forest here is a fire lane, but I bet most driving them don't know that... I just noticed the markers a few years ago, I think only Park Service etc would refer to them that way... I think they are everywhere, just not sure if my "terms" are local speak or not... with development, some residences here are now built aside them, and they take on a road name... I'll be on the phone to the Park Rangers & Fire Marshall here in a minute. :p

NO decaf, bleh... but I will be needing a topper of whiskey b4 this is over with! I hope that up there makes sense... I've never been to a dense wilderness that didn't have them, half the state would burn each time a fire got brewing otherwise. Probably I could google this huh? :laugh:

As being a computer geek since forever (insert smile here) I have sadly know this is true as you mentioned, and that the internet has been used for many "other dark sides to their lifestyle"

I absolutely agree with you (leaving their trails on their PC) on how great this can be to help LE to track these "other predators" down.

I did not want you to think I was naive to this "type of world" on the net:)

I have known unfortunately for way toooo long, the net has always been two sides of the coin (good and bad), but I surely believe noone is going to look the other way when they come across any site or blog that is disturbing visually or verbally with its content.

I sure hope this is a lesson learned to all the people who behave in this manner to know that technology is only getting better by the day and that the wonderful world of "ARCHIVES" will eventually catch up with them

It's been verified by the WA State Dept. of Corrections that the numbers are/were definitely Jet Duncan's inmate identification numbers.

Hi All...As I mentioned on another thread, I'm new here and wandered over from the cellar to pick at the info you guys have uncovered (And hopefully share some!)

I've studied a lot on that sidebar on JED3's site, and while we know that number was in fact his prison ID#, I'm puzzled by the photo behind it. It appears to be a double-exposed photo-shopped photo of a "woman" wearing a turban. I say double exposed because the corner of the eye extends INTO and THROUGH the turban. I believe it to be a photo (as versus a drawing) due to the detail of the eyelashes..tho I could be wrong. At first, I thought maybe prison art (which seems to be very popular and can bring big bucks)because it also has Jet's signature. I don't think the photo/portrait is of him though. I looked at JED3's eyes in most of the photos we have seen of him, and even looking straight ahead, the white of his eye can be seen above the lower lid. Soooo...who is this a photo of..and why are they wearing a turban?

As far as the photo at the very top of the sidebar (the "who is this" photo), thats dear ol' Jet as Jazzi-Jet. If you look at the Jazzi photos and select the pose of him standing in the black dress (ick) and compare the 2 side by side, you'll see the distinct eye thing I referred to above as well as the sleeves of the dress below the photo of Arnold.

I am just wondering: if these numbers do, in fact, tell tales, could he be referring to nothing more than his days as the Prison Queen and being Big Al's bitch? Afterall, this was the website he used to show the world...even encouraging people to call if they had trouble seeing the cats. (IMHO, thats wanting to see a cat pretty damn bad! - enough to make a call? sheesh!) It may be nothing more than his own perverse way to expose Jazzi and that alter-ego..but not REALLY expose "her".

I've read here that some of you see "numbers tel tales" and some of you see "numbers tell tales". Apparently there were 5 different versions of this site..and in the earlier version(s), it did say "numbers tel tales". This may be nothing more than a typo that he later corrected...or maybe the "tel" does refer to some telephone number and he thought that "tel" would be too revealing of a clue. ...Reaching here....

Anyway..back to the turbaned "lady"...any thoughts?
