hi my name is debbie lynn (hall) smeaton,my mom ruth sharon (hoffman) hall has been missing since 1988, i filed a missing report on her in august of 1988 with the local police dept and i just found out there was a problem and it did not get filed so now i have to start from scratch. so i filed with the wayne county sheriff's office, im hoping someone out there can tell me how to get a age progression on my mom since it's been so long? i only have picture's from 1988 and im making a flyer so if anyone can please help me with how to go about this i would be so greatful, thank you and god bless. sincerelly debbie smeaton.

Debbie, I am so sorry to hear about your mother. There are some wonderful people that post here at Websleuths who might be able to point you in the right direction. I'm really curious as to why no one in your family kept in contact with the police to see what was happening in the case. I know that most people with someone missing in their family almost camp out at the police station or wear the phone out calling to see what they have found out. I'm not being critical but just curious.

There is a program on CourtTV called "Cold Case Files" and I have noticed that at the end of the program we are asked if any of us have a cold case we want looked into. I don't know how it works if the case was never investigated but you could contact them and tell them what you know and see what they have to say.

hi,we did all that for years and they switched the officer's on her case a few times there is not much more we could do but to call daily and even go down there finally they said they need to do there job! so we called twice a month and even hired a pI, i have been thru 37 surgerys and not one day has gone by without me calling someone or doing something to try and find her. but now i finally got wayne county sheriff's on her case and im doing everything i can to find my wonderful mother, and thank all of you out there that are helping us, and thank you for the info on cold cases i will check that avenue out.god bless all of you good people out there. debbie lynn. sure, she went to the local bar in river rouge mi the night before she disappered the next morning she came home in a cab in hospital scrubs i was up allnite pacing the floors 8 months pregnant thinking the worse but we she pulled up i felt relief, until i seen her she was bruised up and she told me the bar owner and his friend was gonna give her a ride home but instead they took her somewhere else and raped her. so after we talked and cried she took a long bath and i wanted to call the police and she begged me not to not yet anyway so i trusted her judgement but deep down i knew something wasn't right. so she said she wanted to go for a walk and clear her head and she also said they would get what is coming to them and that was july of 1988 and i haven't seen her since,you will have to excuse me but i need to go for now this is really hard, im sorry. sincerelly debbie lynn.Prayers for your mothers safe return. ETA: I read that she called your pastor looking for you in 1987. If true, that is a great sign! I hope you can find her soon!

I am rather confused about the dates in this post. Most places say she has been missing since 1986 however, there are some that say 1988. Could you clarify what the dates are?

yes this is her but i dont know who done that age progression of her but im glad you noticed that now i need to get ahold of them cause that picture doesn't look like no one in the family especially my mom. but i did send picture's of her to alot of site's hoping they would put them up, she was missing in 1986 sorry my mind is over loaded. i spend alot of time on this computer and im also dealing with going to see her brother my uncle bob he don't have much time left so were all going to tennesse to see him one more time so my mind and my heart i guess are feeling a little empty, plus i have my daughter do some of the work for me so that helps. but i can't thank you all enough but it really feels good to have someone to share this with .sincerelly debbie lynn. no she did not work in a hospital and i dont know how she got there! they kept her clothes for a rape kit, my mom went up there looking for a barmaid job she rarely drank and she told me everything that happened and there working on getting the report. and i don't like the way you are trying to make her sound like a drunk or something and why do i need someone else,im very clear on what happened to my mom. maybe this site was not a good idea? im hurt enough and i dont need this right now.Did your mother work in a hospital? Or did someone take her to one, where she'd been all night, maybe had been sick all over her own clothes?

Maybe she wasn't really raped, just perceived as drunk and quarrelsome, and beaten up?

What did the hospital report say? You have any friend who's not emotionally involved and therefore could be more sure of herself or himself, more effective in getting answers? A male relative?

I've revised my above post a bit. Still can't find a link to work, but it's interesting that "Intel" is about worldwide drug smuggling using River Rouge! If she lives near the Detroit River, there's probably lots of bars?

Debbie no one is trying to hurt you, or say anything bad about your mother. I am sorry that you took it that way. A part of developing theories is that we look at the info you gave and try to figure out what may have happened. You mentioned a bar, but did not say if this was a regular thing for her or not. And even if it was, that doesn't mean anything bad about your mother. It would just be a piece of info to add to the puzzle. Now someone mentioned that your mother called your pastor at one point trying to find you? Did she reach you? Did the pastor find anything out from her? When did this happen? Can you tell us more about this?

Hi my name is tasha.I am debbie lynn (hall) smeaton's daughter.I am also helping her on the search for my na na.I truly hope that there may be someone out there that will be able to help or maybe lead us in the right direction.My mom was really sick due to having 37 surgeries and finding her mother has always been a priority for her even when she had brain surgery.It has been a huge priority for all of us.My uncle(my na na's brother) does not have the much longer to live and his dying wish was to see my na na just one more time.It is breaking my heart knowing the pain that my mom is going through not knowing where her mother is.So please anyone that could possibly help or lead us maybe into some new directions,it would be ''greatly'' appreciated.Thank you and in case you have no clue as to who I am talking about,my mom's title on here is ''Endangered/Missing person,my mom''.So Please if anyone out there thinks that they could help even the tiniest bit,please do so.It would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Debbie,

Angels Missing is not my site. You would have to ask the owner of that site questions about it. My forum is a borrowed space, so we have to be courteous about using it. Posting family photos would be going beyond the mission statement as we only publish photos of the missing person, or known abductors if the info is released by law enforcement. Most missing persons sites are going to operate in the same manner. Perhaps what you might want to do in this case is to create your own website. There are many free ones available on the Internet these days.

18 Wheel Angels is for ambiguous missing persons cases. Come Home is utilized only if there is a strong reason to believe the missing person may be homeless. Because of the large number of missing persons, we cannot run one person on both programs.

I'm so sorry that you both have had to go through so much. It has to be so hard not knowing where your Mom/Na Na is or if she is okay. Do you know if the police have any of her DNA (maybe from you Debbie?) Have they given you any information as to what they have done to locate your Mom? (Either back in 1986 or currently?) Is there anything else you might remember about your Mom that might help ID her that isn't on the Missing poster? (Maybe old injuries, broken bones, jewelry, tattoos?)

I'm not certain but I think when she went to the hospital they would have called the police about the rape and she might have been interviewed in hospital, are there any records of the police report that was taken about that? Was there a rape investigation started? The original report should still be at the station it was filed at?

Yes it is very hard on not just my mother and myself but also the rest of the family.Not knowing is the part that really hurts.I am going to say that I am pretty sure that they do not have any of my na na's dna..Well The wayne county sheriff that is working on this case is doing everything that he can possibly think of to try and find some clue as to where she may be or if there has been any activity on her social security number.But so far as it stands right now..there has been no activity on her social security number..They are saying that a different name comes up when they run it..So that is really puzzling..I hope and pray every day that she is safe and sound..and also for her safe return home to all of her family that love and miss her so much.She is/was the sweetest woman you ever could meet..I was my na na's pride and joy and I know that she would have never left me or any of us for that matter.All we can do is try everything possible that is out there and let the sheriff do his job and hope and pray for the best..thank you

thank you, im pretty sure both even though rouge police never did a rape case that im aware of the new officer's are looking into all that and to why alot was not done on her case,the original case we tried to get and they told us that the jacket the case was in was still in the file but the report was not in there and the officer at rouge even said that is really strange. im sure she was interviewed at the hospital and there getting them records also so i will keep everybody informed as i find anything out. again thanks to all you wonderful people,sincerely debbie lynn.Hi Debbie,

Just an idea... was she picked up by ambulance and taken to the hospital or did she arrive there by some other means? If it was by ambulance, check with the places that provide emergency care... fire departments (they tend to give first responder care), ambulances services, and maybe even go to the hospital and speak with someone... in any case, if it was by ambulance, there should be a run report completed by the ambulance service, sometimes that report can shed valuable incite into a situation... location person was picked up, time... etc...

This is heartbreaking. Do you know of anyone in her life that could have made life uncomfortable for her? Do you know if anyone was with her before she was last seen? It sounds like she was a special needs person. Is there anyone who could have benefited from her demise? Sorry for the questions but somewhere there is an answer. HI,
Everyone loved her and she done so much for alot of people and no she wasn't a special needs person, she was diagnosed with chemical Inbalance a few years back and only had about 3 or 4 episodes.
She was working helping me with my kids and she was ask ruth for the whole neighberhood men loved her and so did women she was the sweetest woman I have met so far in 42 years.
I was with my mother and she Is a very strong person but this hurt her yeah but she was out for revenge she probally wanted them locked up and she wasn't gonna stop until that happened. so please quit thinking my mom was fragile or helpless or crazy.
She had her life togehter more than most for all the **** she went thru.
We appreciate your prayers and god blees you also
They got her listed under endangered/missing person/possible abduction after rape not cause her once In a great while medical condition.

I guess I missed something because I didn't see anywhere there was a problem. She did need medication though. Let's hope that's all that happened, she had an 'episode' and wandered off and is somewhere safe now. I know it's been a long time, but as long as there's no body, there should be hope.

Good luck with your search for your mom, she sounds like a wonderful person and it seems she has many people who miss her.

PS.....Nancy Grace and Greta are continually bringing up 'cold case' missing persons. Perhaps you should try to contact them. I know this was a long time ago, but maybe if it gets national attention, someone will see her story and come forward with your answers.

PPS...There are several people here on the net who are pushing for a tv program just about 'missing.' It sounds like a good idea.

Yes fran she was on lithium and I hoping the same thing but they can't find the bar owner or his frien either! It was a local cop bar that she was at.
I also belong to unsolved cases and cold cases thru yahoo groups.
They are gonna feauture her the 21st-23rd.
Thank you she was the type of person that put everyone's happiness before her own, and this woman was my sunshine and now I live In the dark with this big empty hole In my heart, I will spend my last day's and my last breath on this earth trying to ind her (or) and I hate to even think like this but at least ind out what happened to her.
This mom of mine taught herself to play piano and had the voice of and angel she would play piano and sind at our church In ohio, and I talk to pastor jimmy anderson and they want her back as badly as I do.

I want to thank you from the bottom of whats left of my heart.
If you would have met her you would have loved her to!
This has been the hardest thing so far In my life I have went thru and I've been thru hell and back. I was diagnoised with spedo tomor ceberi and had 37 surgery's 28 lp's 9 vp's brain surgery's while still trying to find her.
Now the kicker my exhusband just got out of jail for trying to kill me and they didn't even notify me I found out threw a cop friend of mine.
But no matter what the devil or whoever throws my way I will never stop.
I just wish sometimes I had a sister or brother but In a way Im glad so they don't have to feel this kind of pain.
But I want to thank you for yor kind words and letting people know about my mom.

Debbie I second the thought that until you are notified that her remains are found you should keep hope that she may be found alive. However, after the time involved- well you cannot rule out the possibility that she will not be.
Can I make a suggestion? Have you considered contacting all the coroner's offices in your area to inquire about any unidentified remains that may have been found in the period since your mother's disappearance? Sometimes they will publicize when remains are found- but not always. I would pick a radius of 50 mi from where you are and contact all the coroner's within that area. Then I would start those within 50-100 mi of your area. The LE is always involved with missing person's and when remains are found. But the coroner's office is too. And they are the office responsible for the remains. So I would start contacting them directly since nothing is coming from LE.

No but a friend I met over the net has done that for me allready.

the wayne county sheriff's office they just took the case In feburary and she Is also on doenet work.
Believe me I didn't want to even think that could be possible but my mommy didn't raise no dummy.

:confused: My Question exactly...where do they go? How can someone/anyone particularly an adult just vanish? My nephew has been missing now since a week after 911..without a trace...the family knows about. Same deal here there was no real law involvment for a very long time. Many strange and mysterious things have happened, strange phone calls, hints of mssgs, etc. But nothing to hold on to.
I pray you learn something. I know how it is..believe me, we too miss someone. Best wishes, may the things done in darkness..be brought to light.

I'm so sorry to hear about your nephew but thats one question I don't have the aswer to. In my moms case the first missing/rape case was suppose to be open on the 7th of july 1986 and I just recently found out they never opened It.
That Is why I wrote about the hell I had to go thru with the local police.
It's under my yahoo under my handle debbmhll. It's open to the public to read It so know one else has to go thru this again.
maybe someone In your family could go up to the police station that Is handling your nephew's case and ask to see the status on what they have done so far and also get his case on crimestoppers.

Debbie...do the LE have any idea at all where the bartender or owner of the bar is now? Can't they use social security numbers to track these people? Aren't they suspects in the rape? Because of that they should be able to check out their SS numbers. Those guys have to be working somewhere.

As I was reading this thread I thought of my mother and how much I depended on her to be there even after I got married and had children. Our moms have always been in our lives and we take for granted that they always will be. I can remember just the thought of my mother being gone someday was more than I could stand to think about. When something big to me went on in my life I called my mom. Good or bad situations...I had to talk to mom. Mom gave great advice when asked...she could do anything she set her mind to. She loved me unconditionally. I had a wonderful mother. I was lucky enough to have an older sister who I am close to. I lost my mom a few years ago and miss her everyday. I still think "I've got to ask mom about such and such." Then I remember that I can't call her. My missing my mom is different then you missing your mom though. I had years with my mom and she died of old age. You have been robbed of love, time, and memories by someone.

I thought of you Debbie and how much you have needed your mom throughout the years. You've been through a lot even without your mom missing and I know there had to be a thousand times that you needed to hear her voice or feel her arms around you. Both of you have missed so much.

I sincerely hope that you get some answers soon.

You are the second person to have me In tears todd matthews from project jason was the first. when you were talking about your mom everything was exactly the same and It hurts like hell cause she was everything you said about your mom. she was my best friend my world revoled around her and everyone of my friend adored her. thank you for sharing with me In a way Im glad to cry because I am remembering all of the times I know I'll call mom or go over there.
everyday we had to talk on the phone or be together.
We had just moved Into a apt together we were both going thru divorces but we didn't care we had each other and I was 8 1/2 months pregnant when she went missing. that day was the end of my world how I knew It I was 23 and without my mommy. but I had to go on for my kids I hold them to close I think but anyways I went to the doctor and had him tie my tubes I sure didn't want to have any more without her. and because I was her only child she prayed for 6 years to get pg the doctor's told her no way but she told them I have my faith but I always promised I would have a big family for us. now I just want her back. thanks for letting me get that out. and Im glad you had the time with your mom.Debbie lynn.

Yes, I did. I've bookmarked it and plan to read through all of it. You mother is a lovely lady, and I just can't imagine how hard it has been on you and your family. I just can't believe someone could vanish of the face of the earth...someone has to know where she is. I hope you find out something about her in the very near future...

You're right about getting her story out where everyone knows about it. So many of these things are resolved when the media get ahold of the story.

I know It's been a while but I have been really working without of le getting the ball rolling and hopefully In a month or two they are seting up a press conference well really all we need Is a couple thing's we have to get the age progression first and I can't afford 30 dollars so I'm waiting still on the one's that did that first one and by the way would look nothing like her have you seen her picture's and the age progression? Please take a look and tell me what you think and I want you to be honest don't worry about hurting my feeling's I don't even think I have much Heart left expect for all the wonderful people I have met on these good site's and there are a few more:)

I'm from this area. It was a bar she was at in River Rouge? Did she also live in this area? How familiar was she with this particular place?

Did she leave the bar on her own? Where was her vehicle (I'm assuming she drove)?

Yes we both lived together at 58 leroy st river rouge and the bar was a few blocks away, and she was very familiar with the area we lived there for over a year but she walked up there to apply for the barmaid postion.
And I called up to the bar around 10 or 11 and they said she allready left and I asked with who the barmaid said she didn't know.
Was you able to find her story's and under which site I'm trying to figure out which one Is easier to get too!!!!!!!!

Did you read her story's cause that Is why I wrote everything that had happened to her and what happened with the first police report.
The only reason I'm asking you to read the story's cause my health Is terribley bad I have had 37 surgery's and 9 brain surgery's for fluid on my brain they have had to replace my shunt that many times I hope you can understand I try to answer as many questions as my body will allow but please read the storys and If there Is something you want to know then I would be glad to answer your questions and I really am thankful that you are caring enough to ask but I just had to have a spinal tap and I've had over 300 of them and I'm really In alot of pain but I will be better soon.
The doctor's want me to have the 38th surgery right now but then I would be layed up for months and everything I have done to start over cause of a local police never opened her case well thats all In the missing report story I sure hope you understand and bare with me all of you I'm trying soooo hard and with little help. I'm a little confused about this.

One site mentioned that she came home early the next morning in hospital scrubs, then changed and went back out to search for those two guys.

Is that when she was dressed in the outfit you all have listed? Or was that what she was wearing when she went to fill out the application for the job the day before??

HI Pook, you have It right she did come home the next morning In hospital scrubs and took a bath and changed her clothes and those are the clothes we listed. I had someone type what I wrote and she did a good job but If you notice anything not right please let me know ok.

HI Everyone,
I just got new Information from her driving record that In 1988 my mom got pulled over In walker city for a wrong turn, and also she was spotted In finville michigan at a grocery store In 1995 my cousin Inlaw seen her but before she got a chance to talk to her she was driving away In a green truck.
Thought I would let everyone know the new Information so you can keep your eye's open still waiting on a age progression cause the one that was done would look nothing like her It's because they didn't have the new good photo's that I just posted but I'm sure the doenetwork will do a good one now that they have these better photo's.

Debbie Lynn is there any possibilty your Mom could be living in an adult group home? Or is she too independant for that?
I ask because I used to work part time for doctor that treated group home patients and often they had no family contact. If you think it is possible you might want to send the age progression to adult homes in your area and areas where she has been. I will be glad to fax to the ones in my area once you have the new age progression.

She was very Independant but anything could have happened?
She held down a full time job at factory's and towards the time of her disapperance she was applying for a barmaid she also taught herself how to play piano and had a voice like a angel she use to sing at our church In ohio.
She was a normal as anyone but If she got off her med's then she would do silly things never harmful Unless someone really pushed her last button but other than that she was a very loving caring woman that helped so many people In her life I only wish I could help half the people she did and probally still Is but I'll try any avenue that might be a chance again I don't think so but It's worth a shot.

So you now know that your mom was alive in 1995 and that she was driving a green truck then...that is great news. Gives you hope to keep going.
Can law enforcement check and see if she is working by using her social security number? If she is holding down a job she would be paying taxes and that could be traced by her social security number. I'm sure law enforcement would have to do the tracing but I can't think of any reason why they couldn't do that. It's worth asking about anyway.
I hope you find your mom soon...what a reunion you two will have.

Yes I am thrilled but I knew all along with everything In my heart and gut she was alive and out there somewhere. and the wayne county sheriff's are on the case but I'm still trying to get the age progression so I can put up flyer's everywhere within a 100 mile radius In each directions and were also waiting on the le to get the media Involed.
So thank you so much for sharing In my joy I just wished this was the way on everybody's case even though this has been such a long road and It get's pretty hard when I'm the only family doing this and of course my daughter and last but far from least site's like these and good people like you give me Ideas and give me the strenght to go on and without the lord I would have not made It so I give him alot of praise for carrying me this far.

Truthfully that guy who did It done a much better job and It's very good art but there working on some modifcations like forehead Is to big and the chin no way and take at least 5 years off her then he will probally have her nailed.
I'm gonna get ahold of kelly or who ever put's these up and ask them to put her last pic beside that one so I can really tell and so can you and everybody out there so you guy's could get a good Idea who knows one of you might have seen her.

I really don't know I know by pure luck I got that record cause the woman at the state of michigan said I wasn't suppose to get that record cause I sent for them with a copy of the police report and a missing flyer and a copy of my birth certificate and they said no one can get other people records?

You were lucky, I would say. The police can check licenses in all 50 states, I would think. Maybe you should ask them to do that.

I'm not sure about putting it on your site. I don't see any problem with it myself, but maybe the woman at the state of Michegan could get in trouble with her boss, if it is ever found out?

I don't think I will add that to my website cause just Incase that nice woman was doing me a favor I don't want to get her Into trouble.
About the age progression I know It needs work to look like her.
Her sister Is 74 and doesn't look that old but there working on making the changes and I hate being a pain but I would rather just keep the last picture's of her on a flyer than the picture not look like her.
This guy Is pretty good It just needs a few things I would tell them to leave It If I believed someone would reconize her by that age progression but I know from her sister and brother's and what my mom looked like she would not look like that but I got to hand It to this guy I know he Is doing a good job and thats the first Impression on her he's done I'm confindent that the next one he does will look like her today. I just want to find my mom and I will never give up until I do she has alway's been threr for me and I'm surely not gonna give up on her no matter what, wow I'm sorry got way off track there we were talking about the records. Yes they are working on alot of things and as soon as I know anything I will post It all of you have been going thru this with me and you all deserve to know the outcome as well so thank all of you so much and God bless all of you.

Hi Debbie, I don't know much about the way they do the age progression but I'm thinking one of your mom's outstanding features are her deep dimples. Is there a way those can be shown in the age progression picture?

I agree I don't think that's how your mom would look now.

Your mom is so beautiful. I think she would age well.

People really notice dimples like your mom has so I hope they are shown.

Thank you soooo much for saying what I'm feeling I know she wouldn't age like that at all, one thing about her she took so good care of herself and yes Is a very beautiful woman and they are working on fixing It so when I get that one I will ask kelly to put that one up but If It's not gonna look like her then I'm just gonna look Into that New Computerized age progressioning Thats really expensive but she Is worth It even If I have to hold a car wash or something else I will get the money for that. but hopefully the one there working will turn out I will let you now as soon as I do and thank you again for being honest and soooo nice but the honest part means more to me then anything else.

I don't know what they are talking about when they say they are getting the books together on the cases. It kind of sounds like they are writing a book on each case chapter by chapter as the case unfold. They add a chapter as things happen in the case??? That is what I got out of it. It sounded like the chapters would be right there on the site. I could be wrong though.

Are LE doing anything on this case now? I would want to know why they ignored it for so many years. If that was my mother I think I would contact the Attorney General in your state and ask for an appointment. He is above all LE in that state. I would take all of my paperwork with me and start from the beginning. Tell him what you have found out about your mother...recently...and ask for his help. It is bull that LE let your mother's case set for so many years. I would want an answer and I would want to know what he can do to help you...especially about getting your mom's picture and name out there so that she can be identified by someone and found.

Do you live in Michigan? I wonder if there is a way that you could make contact with places in Michigan who have resources for disabled people. Was your mom on medication? Would she have gone to DSHS for medical help? Are there assisted living places in Michigan that she may be living in? Maybe you could get a phone book for Michigan and start sending a letter and picture to any place that looks like it could be a place for her to get help from.

When you found out about the ticket did you find out what city it was in? If so, I would start with that city and their resources for disabled people. She may be getting help from a Mental Health facility....help with housing....meds, etc. Anything is worth trying. Her disability may make it easier to find her if she is getting some help somewhere. She is older now and my guess is that she would be getting some help. I can't think of anything else right now but I would start with the city the ticket was from and send out as many letters/with a picture as possible.

Take care Debbie. Have you tried the TV stations in Michigan...if that is where she got her ticket? I would contact them and beg them to show your mom's picture.

I think you are right about that cause I got the same impression when I read it.
And yes we live in southeast michigan and she got pulled over in the city walker mi,and I have talked to alot of people in the mental health field and if she is in there it actually is gonna be hard as heck cause we have that hippa law and they won't tell me nothing and they don't have to.
But I did call and fax over information to all the one's in the southeast area and believe me that was ton's of places and they haven't gotten back to me, see I am doing this on my own and my own health issue's I am really pushing and I spend at least 8-10 hours per day on the computer and I did go up the chain of command and they sent me right back to the bottom and told me I would have to get river rouge police to help me.the attorney general is Mike Cox for Michigan and I think I am gonna call him today cause he is in lansing michigan and that is to far to go for nothing so I am gonna call his office and see if I can get a appointment with him but lately I don't know what state you are in but he has alot going on and is on t.v daily over a big mess.

Thank you so much for the kind words and it's becoming to much pain to bear,but I know I have some good friends to keep me going and I have to be strong for his kids and wife they really need your prayer and I could use a little myself this round. him and my mom were like twins I swear and he was just here a couple of months ago,but he was in and out of the hospital so much and he was only using 20 percent of his heart and know he is in heaven now and happy,this is a big loss to all that knew and loved this great man Bob Hoffman.

I am so very sorry for your loss. When I saw the title of this thread, I thought that one of my relatives might be posting on this board w/o my knowledge. However, the location is different. We just buried my favorite uncle (Mother's brother) on Saturday. He went into the hospital in the hospital on 9/9 to have a polyp removed from his colon. He contracted an infection in the hospital and died last week. He never came home from the hospital after having a procedure that was to have him home in two days. He was my Mother's baby brother and a hard pill to swallow. I understand what you are going through. May God be with you as you grieve.

I am so sorry for your loss as well,yeah he was in the hospital to when it happened and they gave him a twilight and his heart stopped and we all thought he was just hanging on in hopes of seeing my mom again and I couldn't even give him that but I am making a promise to be more decicated then I am now to find her and let her know how much he missed her. take care and God Bless you and your family and I knwo you know what I am feeling right now,I guess I am numb but at leasst I had a big cry and hen something calming came over me and I know it was him.
now I need to focus on his kids and wife thay are really the one's hurting real bad and I ned to be strong for them even though it is hard I can break down when I get home if need be and i am sure I will.

Have you gone thru the Social Security Office??? If you know the names that your mother was using, including her maiden name, birthdate,etc....You write a letter to her, I dont remember if the envelope was to be sealed or not--then you place that into another envelope and take it to the local social security office, and they will take the letter and forward it to your mother.

My father was looking for his sister, one that he had not seen in 30 years or so, and his siblings claimed that no one knew where she was, he found her that way. The ss office called my dad the next day to say that they had found her and if she wanted to contact him then it would be her choice.

And an old man that I knew was looking for his daughter that he had not seen in 25 years, found her thru the ss office, and she and I have had a friendship now for about 6 years. She also was found the very next day.

Ruth, (my Mother, Ruth Sharon Hoffman) was a wonderful woman, who got dealt a bad hand early off in life.

She took that bad hand and turned it into a royal flush. Her mom had 11 children and had to put most of them into foster care..

My mom was one of the first ones to get out of foster care and get a job. Then she met my dad and they instantly fell in love. They were married within two months. Then, they worked together getting her siblings out of foster care..

They took them (her siblings) one by one until they could find a job and an apartment. My mom has done so much good in her life..

Everyone loved her and she loved everyone. She was always helping someone, even people she did not know. This woman had a voice like an angel, and even taught herself how to play the piano..

Pastor Jimmy Anderson wants her to come back and rejoin the church. He says they miss her singing and piano playing..

Pastor Jimmy is a friend of the family..

Debbie - I hope you're still here and doing well! I just read your Mom's entire thread today, although I have seen her beautiful face in searching for other missing people. I have a few thoughts about this case, if you don't mind....

I'm curious as to why Ruth was wearing a leather jacket when she left that day. Wouldn't it have been hot and humid in Michigan in June?

Why would Ruth have needed a DPT shot shortly after she went missing? DPT shots are normally given in childhood. Maybe it was for a job? For what other reasons would an adult need a DPT immunization?

I may have missed this, but I do believe all of the names Ruth might use should be listed on her "official" website. Both the medical center receipt and the ticket are under different last names. If she is using her real first name but different last names, it may help to find her.

I believe the picture on Ruth's missing poster should show her dimples! When I'm looking for missing people, I always focus on one particular feature that is unique and won't change drastically with age. In Ruth's case, I believe it's her beautiful dimples! She looks very young and pissed off in the picture used on that poster.

Is Ruth's DNA in CODIS?

And finally, is there any chance that Ruth "took care" of the pieces of s**t that hurt her and that's why she took off?

I truly believe (and hope!) Ruth is alive somewhere. Debbie - can you tell us how close the towns where she was "spotted" are to where she left?

I also believe that what happened to her may very likely have pushed her over the edge emotionally. If she was already suffering from a chemical imbalance and possible depression, she may have just disconnected from her reality. Can't really say I blame her.

Good luck Debbie! Did you get a chance to follow up on the name Ruth Sharon Russie (the name on drivers license in PA)? My grandfather disappeared years ago and we never found out what happened, so I know how frustrating it can be. Don't get discouraged by people who ask offensive questions- this type of forum can be very helpful when you are looking for someone.

I just read your mom's story. From her website, it appears the last time she
received SSI or SSD was in 1989.
Have you asked SSA to see if she received regular social security
at 62 or 65?
Is she listed in the SSA death index? I know that is not what you want to hear, but it might bring some peace of mind.
You don't absolutely have to have her social security number.

If she was alive in 2003 and whereabouts cannot be released, then maybe she is an adult foster care situation or heaven forbid, institutionalized.
If any case, if Debbie wants to follow thorough with SSA, they can get a letter to her mom. Her mom or if she has a guardian can decide to answer to letter or not.

On a side note: I did see on yahoo360 Debbie's page there that she said she would be at a new place on line to find her.
I did go to that site and I did register. But, I quickly unregistered.

I hope Debbie will come back this way and at least read the boards.

I understand the dilemma: a woman goes missing, there is evidence she was alive as recently as 2003 so perhaps she doesn't want to be found or put into contact with her family and her right to privacy is being observed. However, given the circumstances under which she vanished the least LE could do is try to contact Ruth and ask her if she wants to be put into contact with her family and if she says then go from there. I think the decision to observe privacy laws needs to have a little wriggle room to allow for extraoridinary circumstances. If she is living in some kind of group home or shelter and seems to be disoriented or have amnesia then it seems a little ridiculous that she has family out there looking for her, she could be in dire straights and need them but because of the law they cannot be brought together. I cannot imagine how frustrating that is for Ruth's daughter.
