A Columbus police sergeant made a personal appeal to the public Friday in an effort to find his missing 25-year-old son, NBC 4's Holly Hollingsworth reported.

Tony Luzio Jr. was last seen in the early-morning hours of July 4 at an acquaintance's home not far from Rutherford Road off Sawmill Parkway in Delaware County.

Deputies have found no trace of Luzio or his car. He has not used his ATM card.

Luzio is 6 foot 3 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

He was driving a silver, four-door 2004 Honda Civic with license plate number DCA 5615. The car also has a Bush-Cheney sticker on the rear window and a Fraternal Order of Police medallion on the rear plate.

Tony Luzio Jr. has been missing since July 4 from Powell OH which is very near the city of Columbus OH.

Luzio's father, Tony Luzio Sr., is a sergeant with the Columbus Police Department. Police do not believe his disappearance has anything to do with his father's occupation.

Missing adults pose quandary for police
Families get frustrated with differing standards on when officials should pursue cases

Also hoping for the best but fearing the worst is the family of Anthony J. Luzio Jr. He disappeared July 4 in Delaware County, but the sheriff’s office there has not determined that foul play was involved.

"We have nothing to indicate anything bad has happened to him," Sgt. Randy Pohl said.

Luzio hasn’t called or made contact with friends, his parents said. Neither his credit cards nor his health-insurance card has been used. And no money has been withdrawn from his bank account.

His father, Anthony J. Luzio Sr., is a sergeant with the Columbus Division of Police, and officers have helped search woods and the Scioto River near the younger Luzio’s Powell apartment.

Family members began looking for him after he didn’t show up at a family cookout on July 4, nor at his job as a security guard. Friends saw Luzio at an early-morning July 4 party in Powell. He left about 4 a.m.

His mother, Carla Luzio, said she wakes up around that time every morning, thinking about her son.

Dive teams are in the water at Hoover Reservoir searching for clues into the whereabouts of 25-year-old Anthony Luzio.

Luzio has been missing since July 4th and investigators want to take advantage of dive teams, who were doing other work in the water, to search for him too.

Tony Luzio Sr. said there have been no signs of his son or his silver Honda Civic for nearly two months. He makes it through each day, in part, by spending time with young men his son used to spend time with.

"My reaching out to him, is ... through his friends," he said.

The Luzio case is still very active. Luzio Sr. was searching through information from his son's computer, looking for clues.

"Male, female, it doesn't matter. I think ... each case is important," he said.

Like the Popovich case, there are no obvious answers.

"I pray to God that they find her and everything's OK," Luzio said. "But, I hope ... that for my son, too."

Reward In Local Missing Person Case Raised To $100,000

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Central Ohio Crime Stoppers has increased the reward from $12,000 to $100,000 for information about a missing local man, NBC 4 reported.

Tony Luzio Jr. was last seen at a home off Sawmill Parkway very early in the morning on July 4.

Crime Stoppers said the reward will be paid to anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest and/or indictment of person(s) involved in Luzio's disappearance.

Delaware County Sheriff Al Myers said his investigators have already received a few leads.

"We have done physical searching," Myers said. "Columbus has assisted with physical searching of water areas (and) roadways. We've had numerous telephone leads that we've followed up on, as far away as Canada."

All of their leads have come up empty.

There's been no activity on Luzio's bank account or cell phone.

He was driving a 2004 Silver Honda Civic, with four doors and license plate number DCA-5615.

I have been pondering this one, with some many OD's around. I wonder if he had a drug problem or maybe a secret life that no one knew about? With all due respect to the family, could he have been gay and no one knew? Could he have went home with someone he didn't know? I have been wondering about this case. I wonder if anyone else has looked into this? I did find one rumor on the net about Mark Ely? and supposedly Tony sold meth. I found a blog at myspace which was empty and a profile at reunion.com. I guess I was hoping to find an online life. Seems most people these days confide in online journals. I read an article talking about the father checking his sons computer. As a computer geek I would love a chance to check out his computer. Something rubbed me wrong about how he left his house key with a friend, didn't take his cell, and disapeared, car and all. Im about 50 miles ne and almost anchorin' for a hike into the woods. We've had our own share of bodies turn up due to drugs in the last year. I wonder if this isn't related as to cause. Maybe he knew he was in trouble and something was going to happen. Since I found a profile on myspace I can only assume that he did as others do and made another anonymous account. I just wish I knew more to know what to look for. Even if he was gay or sold drugs, his body would've been found somewhere. With the exception of people like Jeffrey Dahmer, most murderers don't keep the bodies around the house. And drug dealers don't usually care if the body is found. And if he ODd, well, as people have stated many times on this forum, a dead person can't move themselves...

I re-read your post and starting thinking:

1. There have been reports of OD's where druggies have been too scared to contact LE to incriminate themselves and have dumped the body. There have also been cased where a homicide is played out to look like an OD or suicide.

2. People CAN and DO just disapear.

3. Its not like everyone that is murdered just pops up without searching. How can a body be found if its buried, charred, or dumped in the water.

Consider this scenario:

One dealer has per se 5 sub dealers, something goes wrong with a deal, and he hires a gunmen to take out one of his dealers or someone who hurt his business. They ditch the body, and its found and traced back to them. He loses his crazy gunmen and two dealers. Now say next time around, the same thing happens. Do you think that this "dealer" is going to let the next one be found, or do you think the MO of the crime will have changed.:rolleyes:

I take it you haven't read much on LUZIO, because they already searched the hoover resevoir, and I believe part of Olentangy, but I think they should search it again in another area where I saw a satellite image of what appeared to be a car. If not, im going swimming this summer.

Is this another young man who left a bar along and hasn't been seen since? Unless I misunderstood the group left a home after playing card to go to a bar. This young man seemed to be close to his family and unlikely to just take off never contacting them again. I can't even imagine being in his family's shoes. Here his father is in LE yet he can't even find anything that points to his sons whereabouts. That has to be so frustrating for him. Also such a helpless feeling. They are just like every other family of a missing person who wait and wait for something to happen...some lead to come in.

Tony was last seen leaving the party at 4:00AM, presumably to his apartment. That was the last time anyone ever saw Tony Luzio again. His 2004 Honda Civic is also missing and has never been recovered. He disappeared just 15 miles from where Brian Shaffer disappeared.

The car was spotted about 40 feet from shore by watershed employees who were removing docks near Maxtown and Sunbury roads, 10TV's Lindsey Seavert reported.

Someone just posted on Brian's thread that Tony's Honda Civic was silver. The car they pulled out of the reservoir looks black, like the car of the other guy who disappeared in 2005, Mohamed Rihani. But being in the water that long, it could just be very muddy too so it's still possible it could be Tony.

I just saw this too, it's hard to say the color of the car. But from the picture on NBC 4's website the car they pulled out is not a 2004 Civic, it's older than that. Also, I think the plate on the car starts with something like CVT while Tony's is listed as DCA 5615. I think it's not Tony.

BTW, OT...it really helps when posters bump these cases because others see them and sometimes it sparks new interest...we have newbies all the time and some of us are looking at so many threads we don't see them all. If they are bumped we tend to pop in to see if there is news, or they were found.

I have been trying to go through and bump GA missing (my state) now that we have labeled all the threads in missing forums by state. If everyone would do this, pick a thread of someone missing in their state, google to see if anything new, post updates, alert if found so mods can move to located section, or say nothing new, or bump and someone will jump in and udpate (that's what I did) all the cases would stay up to date :)

I believe TES was in Columbus for Brian and Tony and did search bodies of water in that area. Nothing was found. I know they were supposed to be back but I cant recall if they ever came back. Please correct me if I am wrong on this! Sometimes reading about these cases things get confusing. Unfortunately, and sadly, too many missing people.

I understand that they found that other man in the river off of Olentangy Rd.. but what about the reservoir west of Rutherford? Was that ever checked?? Rutherford runs right into it.. He could have taken a longer route home.. (which I haven't seen where home was mentioned or what direction he would have been heading..) So assuming.. (I know.. bad girl..) that home was in the eastern direction.. is it possible that he could have gone west first for a little bit of a scenic ride? Hwy 121 (Seldom Seen rd) connects to Sawmill Pky and Liberty Rd..

There are two lakes, two rivers, and two reservoirs in Delaware County. The lakes, rivers, and reservoirs in Delaware County supply the drinking water for the Columbus metro area.

The Scioto River flows thru the western part of Delaware County. The Olentangy River flows thru the central part of Delaware County.

The O' Shaughnessy Reservoir is in the southern part of Delaware County and the Scioto River flows right into O' Shaughnessy.

Both rivers have very strong undercurrents and both rivers flow into Columbus.

Delaware Lake is in the northern part of Delaware County and north of the city of Delaware.

The two lakes in Delaware County are both state parks where one can go boating, swimming, and fishing.

There is also a place called Olentangy Indian Caverns which is a tourist attraction in that area.

This has got me thinking. Could there be any old caves in that area not open to the public that wouldn't be on any geological maps? What about old water wells or gas wells? That could be something to consider.

JLMcKenna83, you're correct that Riverside Drive (Ohio State Route 257) is right next to the O' Shaughnessy Reservoir and the Scioto River. I don't know if that was ever checked.

While most of the river next to Riverside Drive is lined with trees, there are a few spots where there aren't any trees.

So yes, it would be easy for a car to veer off of Riverside Drive and go into the reservoir and get caught in the strong undercurrent.

nerosleuth, I believe Tony and Brian did not know each other or had ever met. Their fathers met one another at a fund raiser after their sons’ went missing. I cannot confirm if Tony and Brian had any of the same friends or acquaintances.

Tony Luzio Jr. was last seen at a party on July 4, 2005. On the evening of July 3rd Tony had gone to a friend's house to play some cards. Afterwards, Tony stopped at a local hangout to meet up with some more friends. At approximately 2:30 a.m., the group went to a party less than one mile from Tony's parents. Witnesses say they saw Tony leaving the party at around 4 a.m. They assumed he was heading to his apartment though he had given the key to one of his friends. That was the last time that anyone saw Tony.

Thinking about Tony...

Someone posted years ago about two things. 1. whether anyone looked into Tony's internet usage and 2. some possible connections to a drug dealer.

Since Tony Sr is in LE you would think they would have check both angles out yet I have not seen any indication that his internet usage was clean. Stated another way, in some missing persons cases, they readily report that usage turned up nothing suspicious or that history indicated a possible connection to another location. Chandra Levy was once such person. She had been looking into a particular park in DC and that's where they started their search.

The absence of any reporting of this leads me to think that maybe they know something but not enough to name a suspect. If that is the case, they are doing the general public a disservice by not sharing that information. Even if it was clean, that information would help eliminate the possibility that he voluntarily disappeared.
