Is it just me or did anyone else notice that Raven seemed to feel eyes boring into the back of his head from many more people than just those in the courtroom?
What a shifty-eyed guy in that video - he always seems to be almost peeking over his shoulder, and his expressions while he's talking about Kaiden at the end of the video seem almost contrived - like he's trying to look like a proud father but grieving husband would. I can't quite put my finger on it but I'm glad we finally have video of Raven (outside of his comfort zone) to analyze. Quick - someone save the video before Raven somehow makes that one disappear too!!!

(From terminatrixator's post.)
ETA: How long do you think it took before Raven jumped online to see the video of himself and what we all have to say about it?
So the $9,600 was what he made from the sales of a mere 25-30 pairs of shoes? So he has to pay back the $9,600 and return the unsold shoes - by my math, let's assume that he sold 25 pairs of shoes and has 5 left to return - that would mean that he made $384 per pair. How much would those shoes cost you if you bought them directly from a place like Eurosport?

One of the stories stated that the shoes went for about $100 a pair. They described how he ordered something like 25-30 shoes to be delivered to him. My assumption is he pulled this scam multiple times ... hence the FIVE counts of FELONY (not misdemeanor) embezzlement.
Found the Quote:
"Abaroa was working for Sports Endeavors Inc., which owns Eurosport, a mail-order catalog company for sports equipment located in Hillsborough, when he placed orders for shoes and had them delivered to his home but did not pay for them, according to Assistant District Attorney Jacqueline Perez.
Abaroa would order 25 to 30 pairs of shoes at a time and then resell them, Perez said. The thefts occurred last year when Abaroa worked for the company. "

was it 25 to 30 pair for each month he stole???
he also had to return unsold shoes.
I remember the silver shoes on the front porch of Janet's that we were all discussing on the general discussions thread #3. I'm sure those were a gift to Janet form Raven ....
And on his futblrguy ebay account, one sleuther found that he was selling shoes.
So i guess we had this embezzlement thing collectively figured out long before we even realized. hindsight is 20/20!

What cracks me up is the feedback that I've gotten that Raven is sooooo upset about all the LIES we supposedly post about him.
The only one lying is him and our specialty has become busting him at them.

If you saw in one of the articles covering the embezzlement, the writer included info on the murder and stated, "Once he became a suspect, he cooperated with police and allowed them to search his computer and home for evidence needed for prosecution, Perez said."
Early on in this discussion we questioned why a computer wasn't included in the list of items taken from the home under the search warrant. At that time, I suggested that perhaps Raven had voluntarily given them access to the computer, hence, no need to get a search warrant for that specific item. Guess I was right, for once!

Jenifred, I think you are right on this. The ONLY item we've heard that was supposedly stolen that night was the laptop. Not, Janet's jewlery, not anything else of substantive value, just the laptop.
And really, the laptop couldn't be worth much.
I've always wondered about the block of knives being taken . . . maybe something was missing from the set / collection?

Maybe our tanning sessions and hair appointments have been exaggerated, but it's just innocent speculation.
What really gets me is that he says something about his faith getting him though this. What a contrived little saying. He's got no faith--well, other than the faith in himself for pulling off an unsolvable crime.

So I would say, yes he pulled the scam multiple times, hence the multiple felonies.
added additional info from article...
"The shoes were valued at approximately $100 a pair, said Abaroa's attorney, Julian Mack. Mack told the judge that he has another 28 pairs of shoes that he will return to the Hillsborough Police Department in the next day or two as part of the restitution."
Well that was nice of Raven to hold onto the extra shoes just in case he met someone who needed a pair!:loser:

Another problem that I am having with this whole purchase the shoes have them delivered to my house explanation is this--wouldn't Janet have seen 25-30 pairs of shoes arriving at her house? Could you imagine getting a pair of shoes almost every day? Now this tells me that either Janet knew this was happening or Raven was lying about having them delivered to their home. I'm tending to believe the latter.
Now, Golfmom, what was the name of that Latino man you mentioned earlier? Could he have been the partner? Could Raven's mommy or brother have been the partner? I think that these are much better options as to where the shoes were being sent.
And now I'm thinking to myself, wouldn't the company have a paper trail as to where these shoes went? So maybe it is true that they went to the Abaroa residence, but that sure would have been some CIA maneuvering around for Raven--not letting Janet on to the fact that this was happening.

I forgot his name, it's in one of the threads around here ... and I probably have it noted in my records. But, another name he used was Samual Peters. Note the spelling Samual.
Samual Is there any other significance other than the strange spelling ? Am I missing something ?

I guess he had to hang onto them after being charged. Maybe his attorney stored them for him while he was in Utah so he didn't have to look at his guilt every single day when walking past that stack of shoe boxes. I wish that stack of shoe boxes was where the guilt began and ended.

Maybe he found a good hiding spot for the shoes ... like the attic?OMG. So true. And that brings us back to the question ... how could an attic not be searched during a murder investigation. IMO, wherever the shoes were, they were probably discovered by LE during the murder investigation if not admitted to by Raven earlier than that.
One thing this whole thing has taught me - I would be SO embarassed to go to court for embezzlement. What a complete embarassment for Raven. You had to pay some bills? How about selling some of the toys, pal? Or taking a second job like other husbands and fathers? And your poor wife had to spend the end of her life working to help pay off YOUR debt rather than being home with her baby boy like she really wanted. Truly pathetic, IMO. But at least he had that flashy VX - remember the looks he got while driving around in that car? That had to have made it all worth it for him.
I'm disgusted this morning.

Nope, just another example of an alias used by Raven. This family has a strange thing for changing their names.I bet if we found all of the variations of Raven's name, we'd see that he's probably got a long history of this kind of cr*p. If he was desperate enough to embezzle as recently as December, it doesn't seem like there was enough time by April, (especially with both Raven and Janet losing their jobs), to have bounced back, (especially since Raven still had all of his toys). Sounds like one free money scheme after another in an attempt to have someone else pay his way. I hope with everything I am that there was no life insurance policy on Janet. Because I don't doubt that Raven was capable of shoplifting, skimming a few dollars from petty cash, etcetera etcetera - leading up to the embezzlement. Seems that he could have become more desperate and more brazen as time went by.

Don't forget to throw in a little arson while you're at it. :furious:My guess is that Raven, through his perceived good looks & charm, has gotten away with some things that a lot of us wouldn't have over the years. And rather than feeling like he got lucky breaks, he instead began to feel more empowered and more entitled. I think that he learned that he could get away with things, and that knowledge combined with a repeated lack of consequences may have led to some pretty bad things.

You know, I didn't realize until someone (terminatrixator?) mentioned the lawyer looking uncomfortable that the lawyer actually attempts to cut Raven off while he's talking.
Also, in terms of Raven paying bills or fixing a car(s), do we know from his posts what additions/improvements Raven might have made to his vehicles for the period from July to December? Any expenses during that period that weren't absolutely necessary, i.e. trips, VX expeditions, etc.? Seems like stealing money to pay for car repairs wouldn't be something you'd do over a period of six months.

When I have more time, I'm going to have to search through the threads to find out when certain additions and alterations were made to his vehicles. I can't really hold it against a person who steals to put food in their family's mouths. But to install a trailer hitch? Well, that's a different story.

He paid top dollar and the vehicle didn't hold it's value. So he gets upside down on the loan and continues to dump more and more money into it.
Then he does the same dang thing with the Ducatti and all the accessories and gear.

So far, I haven't found much to indicate what he did to the car during a specific time period. What I have found in the first page of searching is some information from two posts originally from golfmom:
On January 20, 2005, (6 months after the first embezzlement episode; within 1 month of being fired), Raven posted the following in his "attempt" to sell the VX:
... I recently installed the Cobra CB radio with Firewire Antenna, but I haven't hard wired it to the car yet (cause I don't know how). I also have run the wires for the trunk popper, but again, not wired.
... Underneath this bad boy is a PV2 Muffler, OEM 912 springs, RS9000 shocks and a heafty 33in tires. The latest add on was the beefy STINKYFAB links that are painted Red.
Prior to that, on May 7, 2004, (2 months prior to the first embezzlement episode), Raven posted, (and this post is actually quite sad - even in talking about the upcoming birth of his child, he finds more things that he must buy for the VX - it seems sad that it just never seemed like enough for Raven, no matter how much he had):
IN a nutshell, I WILL NEVER EVER SELL MY VX.. In fact, got a little one on the way (Oct due date). By then I hope to have a DVD screen in the front and a drop down screen in the back.... Barney, here we come!!!!!!

Then he does the same dang thing with the Ducatti and all the accessories and gear. That's right. I had forgotten about the Ducati during that same time period. Unfortunately, we don't have posts from Raven about expenses for the Ducati.
I'm convinced that Raven didn't steal from his employer because he couldn't make ends meet. IMO, it was definitely because he had to constantly add to his toy collection, and then pay dollar after dollar after dollar to make his toys the best of them all.
It wasn't enough for Raven to have the VX - he needed to see the responses to his photographs on the VX site - "sweet" and "top 5". Unfortunately, it seems that he never stopped adding because having the VX wasn't good enough, having people say "top 5" wasn't good enough. Raven wanted his to be the best and probably couldn't stop himself from this obsession with his vehicle. Like other things, it was an extension of himself. And the more flashy, expensive things he had, the more he could draw attention to those items instead of his shallow, nothing-to-offer-beneath-the-surface personality.

http://www.vehicross.info/forums/images/icons/icon8.gif Help Please- Cylinder misfire and Timing Belt
... I took my car into a repair place Monday for an oil change, tire rotation, and new Timing Belt. Looks like a half day's of labor turned into a three day project. Seems that the Water Pump they wanted to add was the wrong one, then the Timing belt wasn't "Timing" right and they couldn't figure it out. Then it looks like the gasget cracked and oil was leaking, then the timing was still off... Finally on Thursday afternoon I pick up my car. They only charged me for three hours of labor even though it took them forever...
(blah, blah, blah) ...
I just drove the thing 700 miles this weekend for thanksgiving and the light did come on once and I figured it was for the timing belt or the maintenance. (Note - he brought the vehicle in on Monday after the light came on over Thanksgiving weekend - 1) It was a problem that had just popped up - he got it there first thing on Monday; it wasn't a problem that he knew was brewing back in July when he started stealing from ES, and 2) How many of us can run our vehicles to the shop first thing Monday morning and pick it up on Thursday, paying $450 for repairs - that close to Christmas, right after the birth of a child, especially when there are other vehicles that we could drive in the meantime? I guess he had saved some of that e-bay money , (which is odd because you'd think he would have used it for the actual VX payment for which he says he is several payments behind two months later in February - see my next post)).
I feel kinda cheated here causee I expect to get my car back better then when I brought it in since I paid $450 for them to do all that stuff.
12/09/2004 (one week since spending the $450):

Isn't that funny he was already BEHIND while he was stealing from his employer?Well that could "justify" the stealing to pay the bills.
But what blows my mind is that on Thanksgiving weekend, the engine light goes on. First thing Monday morning, he rushes the car into the shop and pays $450 when he picked it up three days later. Then he says in a post one week later something like "no big deal - I just have to pay another $575".
But in the beginning of February, he makes claims in his posts of being several payments behind on the VX. If several is at least three, that means that he hadn't made a payment since December at the most recent. So he was throwing this money out to fix the VX in spite of the fact that he wasn't making payments on the VX! The VX that he STILL has, correct? He couldn't find money to pay what he owed to own the VX but God forbid it would be broken, and he couldn't drive it around to show himself off. The priorities are extremely frightening from a guy that was supposed to be acting like a mature, responsible husband and father. I am personally sorry that Janet didn't have better. Raven's behavior is PATHETIC.
In spite of having stolen that stuff for months, he still wasn't paying his bills.
Does anyone remember when the e-bay sales were taking place? I imagine it was prior to December because that's when he was fired, and we've heard he has only twenty-some pairs of shoes left to return.

THE RENEWED 1999 BLACK IRONMAN... My Baby!
Long awaited release of my new look! I get even more looks now, and I've only been sporting the new look for 24 hours. I stopped by an Isuzu dealership and they were paging everyone to come out and take a look (however, I am not a big fan of their mechanics, go figure) and I've had approval by a few girls who weren't sure if they liked it or not. I've still got some mechancil issues and some more buffing to do, but I think it will all be worth it.
The big Question is, do I want to take it wheelin' now? Sure I do, but I'm gonna have to be very careful!!! Check out the StinkFab bent links I've got tucked under the rear wheels... The clearance looks awesome now!!!!

I forgot about this one, first posted by lauriej. In July 2004, (the month the embezzling began), Raven was chomping at the bit to get a part that was listed for sale on the VX site because another poster apparently wanted it too. I'm not sure what this part is, who ultimately got to purchase it, or how much it cost. But apparently the money problems couldn't have been that severe at the time if he so desperately wanted to purchase this unnecessary accessory.
P.S. After going through all of these old posts, I want to thank all of you again that dug up all of this information. What a lot of work has been done on this case, and it's so helpful to be able to refer back to these posts.

The tone in this post doesn't strike me as a desperate person who's stealing from his employer because he needs to pay bills.

:blowkiss:I'll copy it over to there right now. Thanks for the suggestion. ETA: I originally posted it here only because it's based on my conclusions regarding the older posts that I've been babbling about here for the past day and because it's in reponse to his claim during the embezzlement hearing.
Thanks again! Back atcha ... :blowkiss:

Every so often I like to look in the Dear Raven thread to hear someone give Raven a piece of their mind. It can be refreshing.

..........excellent job, jersey, in getting these posts back in the forefront......

...now, we KNOW , in that time frame, all about the embezzling...........the affair(s).....janet being pregnant............
...knowing what we know now, money issues being a problem..............raven was ALL about his VX , it never seemed to enter his mind to forego upgrades in that area.............
........good fo you JG in digging up these old posts...........the phrase " clear as mud" comes to mind...........raven was SO all about raven back then............is now...always has been.......
...poor janet............what she had to live with.........

They seem to paint such a different picture now. Hopefully all the pieces of the puzzle will come together soon.

Here's Raven's record with the NC Department of Corrections for the embezzlement charges:
http://webapps6.doc.state.nc.us/apps/offender/offend1?DOCNUM=0910080&SENTENCEINFO=yes&SHOWPHOTO=yes&numtimesin=2
Seems from this, that even with probation and a suspended sentence, the plea, etc., Raven has a FELONY record!
These are a couple extractions from the record (to see it all, use the link above):

And a silly ol' Class H felony at that. Let's see what others there are in NC -
OOOH, I found a couple (Yikes! These don't seem to have options for parole and suspended sentences!):
Crimes Against Persons
<H4>Murder in the First and Second Degree (14-17)
A murder which shall be perpetrated by ... poison, lying in wait, imprisonment, starving, torture, or by any other kind of willful, deliberate and premeditated killing or which shall be committed in the perpetration or attempted perpetration of any arson, rape or sex offense, robbery, kidnapping, burglary, or other felony committed or attempted with the use of a deadly weapon, shall be ... murder in the first degree ... and shall be punished by death or life imprisonment ... except that any person ... under 17 years of age at the time of the murder shall be punished with imprisonment ... for life.
Classification: First Degree - CLASS A FELONY (death or life imprisonment); Second Degree - Class B2 FELONY (50 years, life imprisonment, fine, or both).

Abaroa Pleads Guilty To Embezzlement Charges (http://www.wral.com/video/4925393/detail.html)
This video is finally working, (although the quality is terrible). It doesn't really contain anything that we don't already know or haven't already seen. The most notable thing is the phrasing of a statement at the end of the clip ... "His attorney says they're eager for an arrest. Investigators say the murder was not random so whoever they arrest will be someone Janet Abaroa knew".
