Another Richmond teen missing

Friday, September 23, 2005
By Mike Garrity
NBC12 News

Another Richmond teenager has gone missing and police are looking for clues in her disappearance.

Police say 17-year-old Monica Rose Sharp was walking her dog in the museum district this weekend. The dog returned home to the 3100 block of Grove Avenue without her, and the teen hasn’t been heard from since. Police think she may have met up with someone she met on the internet.

Sharp is described as an African American who is 5-foot, 2-inches tall, and about 200 pounds.

This one is unusual since she took the dog with her. Would she have done that if she was meeting someone she met on the internet and planned to leave with him/her?

The dog returning on his own bothers me. Prayers for Monica.

"All missing-persons cases are serious, especially those involving juveniles," Nelson said. Richmond police have investigated roughly 100 missing-persons cases this year.

"We're doing the same things we do in all missing-persons cases," she said, referring to Behl and Sharp.

In Sharp's case, she said detectives have concrete leads.

"We're working hard on both of them," she said.

Illinois man sought in missing girl's case

Sep 26, 2005
Richmond Times-Dispatch

Richmond police have released information about an Illinois man they think might be with a 17-year-old Richmond girl who has been missing for more than a week.

Monica Sharp has been missing from her Museum District home since Sept. 18. She left her home about 10:35 a.m. to walk her dog but never returned; the dog returned a day later. Sharp is 5-foot-2 and weighs about 210 pounds.

Police say the missing teen might be in the company of Jeffery Nichols, a 57-year-old man from Belleville, Ill. Police said he drives a green four-door 1999 Oldsmobile Alero with Illinois license plate 6219015.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Richmond police by calling 911 or 646-5100.

This makes me mad! I live in the St. Louis metro area, near Belleville and I haven't heard anything about this. You'd think they would get the info out in case they are around here. I'll be on the lookout now!!
Prayers for her safe return.

Maybe she didn't actually plan on leaving with him - but instead just meeting him and took the dog because it made her feel safer?

Probably but she didn't realize that he was a 57 yr old pervert. He probably told her he was a 20 yr old good looking dude. I can't see a girl this young wanting to meet with someone old enough to be her dad. I hope they find this girl. Did they even put out an Amber Alert on her?

No amber alert, media doesn't list the family's website address for the missing info. The latest article talk about a myspace account but no word if her friends list has been scoured the way Taylor's and others have. Only 1 picture is out anywhere that we have been able to find. We have listed an image of what Jeffrey Nichols car may look like. But very little to go on at this point. This by all rights is a nationwide case.

Also is he a registered sex offender?

There are 86 registered sex offenders in Belleville IL, but none named Nichols. If that is even his real name?
They need an Amber Alert out on Monica!

Police Believe Missing Monica Sharp To Be With Internet Acquaintance

by Mitch Marconi
Oct 7, 2005

Taylor Behl isn't the only young woman to disappear recently in Richmond. And while the young VCU student met with a tragic demise, the family of Monica Rose Sharp hopes for a safe return.

Monica Sharp, a 17-year-old from Richmond, has been missing from her Museum District home since Sept. 18, when she was last seen walking her dog. The next day, the dog returned home without her.

Police said Sharp left her home at about 10:35 a.m. and didn't return. Her mother filed a missing-persons report later in the day.

Well, where is this Jeffrey Nichols? Seems to me if you can't find the girl you start tracking the pervert that she had been connecting with. Have the cops talked to him? Maybe they should sit him down and pinch his privates with a pair of pliers until he squeaks out the truth :furious:

Monica Sharp

Posted: Oct 12, 2005

W'eve taken several calls here at eight news about the disappearance of 17 year old Monica Sharp whose been missing now for almost a month.

Police tell us there have been possible sightings of Monica Sharp, in Illinois, North Carolina, and New York.

Authorities still believe she is with 57 year old Jeffrey Nichols.

They're asking people to be on the lookout for his car, it's a green Oldsmobile Alero with an Illinois Tag of 621-90-15. According to investigators, they do not believe the 17 year old is in any danger since she left willingly, but they do want to find her.

"It would seem abnormal to me and cause for concern why this person would want to be with this younger person," says Sergeant Sean Adams of Richmond Police Department.

If anyone has any tips please call this number 646-6764.

We did speak with Monica's mother today and she declined to go on camera. She just wants people to see her daughters picture and call if they have any information.

From NBC12 News

The Richmond teen missing from her Museum District home has been found and is reported to be unharmed. Monica Sharp, 17, has been missing since September 18th. She returned home about eight o’clock this morning.

Police have suggested Sharp might have left her home in the company of an Illinois man she met on the internet. Jeffry Nichols has not been found and Richmond Police say they are still searching for him and that he might be charged, if found.

There was a report yesterday that Nichols’ car was spotted in Richmond. Nichols' car is a green, four-door, 1999 Oldsmobile Alero with Illinois tags 6219015.

Anyone with information on Nichols should call 646-6764.

Richmond Police said Sharp -- a 17-year-old student who left her family's home in the Museum District on Sept. 18 to meet a man with whom she had corresponded on the Internet -- returned to her home voluntarily early this morning.

"For all appearances sake, she appears to be fine," police spokeswoman Kirsten Nelson said.

Several hours after she returned, a television crew recorded Sharp being escorted by her mother into a waiting ambulance outside the family's Grove Avenue home.

Richmond police have issued a warrant for Nichols' arrest for use of a communications system to facilitate certain offenses involving children.
