The Davenport mother whose missing one-year-old daughter triggered a nationwide Amber Alert can't do anything more than worry.
"The police just told me to wait until they contact me," Iliana Martinez of Davenport said today.
She last saw her 1-year-old daughter, Arisbeth Alexandria Tapia-Martinez, Sunday morning when she was taken by the child's father, Juan J. Tapia, 23, who's wanted for murder in Mexico.
Besides the Davenport warrant, police say Mr. Tapia is wanted for murder in Mexico and other felony charges in Illinois.
Police issued the Amber Alert Sunday evening after Ms. Martinez reported the alleged abduction.

Holding my breath right up until that last post. Dad must have seen an Amber Alert along the freeway...Thank God that baby is safe. That mom must have been beside herself during that nightmare. Just knowing what that man was capable of......
It really ticks me off when the police tell a person to go home and not to contact them...they will contact you :furious: If they had ever been in the shoes of this mother they would have given her a few "things" to do like calling people who might have talked to the father recently...anything to make her feel usefull. How can they expect a person to just go home and sit by the phone!

They don't want her tying up her phone in case he called her. They don't want her out running around searching for the same reason. About the only thing she could do was start making a list of all his friends, relatives and known associates who he might contact. And probably the LE would want to be the first to contact them.

Can you imagine yourself going home and sitting around waiting for LE to contact you while your baby is out there with a lunatic...a person that you know what he is capable of doing? I know I couldn't do it...not for a minute. A minute would be like hours. I would have to do something that would make me feel like I was doing something useful.
I understand LE not wanting the mom underfoot while they are trying to find the baby, not wanting her to tie up her phone, etc. But I believe there are things LE can give a mother to do that won't hinder the search. Things that will keep her busy and feeling productive but out of their hair.
