'Please just call': Families frantic as police issue Amber Alert for two 13-year-olds

Posted: October 16, 2005

An Amber Alert was issued Saturday for two missing Belcourt girls police suspect were lured by adult males through the Internet, according to Lt. Dan Donlin of the Bismarck Police Department.

LaRaya LaVallie and Brianna J. Mayer, both 13, have been missing since Thursday, when they were dropped off by a parent at Kirkwood Mall in Bismarck. The Amber Alert sent to the media said the girls were last seen in the mall about 6 p.m. Thursday, talking to two adult males.

Amber Alerts are triggered when children are abducted or if authorities believe a child is in danger.

Donlin said the alert was issued Saturday because the investigation pointed police to information that the girls had contact with adult males.

"We feel they could be in danger,"Donlin said.

During a press conference at the Bismarck Police Department, parents pleaded for the girls to call them or authorities to let them know where they are.

Brianna's mother, Michelle Mayer, said she doesn't care about the circumstances; she just wants to know where the girls are.

"Wherever you are at, just please call. You're not in trouble,"she said.

Larry LaVallie, LaRaya's father, said he is not mad at the girls.

"All we want them to do is contact us,"he said.

Police gave few details about the investigation.

Donlin said police are working on leads from callers who said they saw the girls in the mall.

Bismarck Police Lt. Bob Haas said some of the stores in the mall have surveillance cameras, but he didn't know if the girls were spotted in any of them.

The FBI is also investigating the case.

Tom Jones, a special agent with the FBI's Fargo office, said the agency responds when it suspects a child may have been abducted.

Jones said there are no suspects connected with the girls' disappearance.

Mayer is an American Indian, 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 175 pounds. She has brown hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing blue jeans and a blue T-shirt with "Lopez"printed on the back.

LaVallie is an American Indian, 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 145 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing blue jeans and a blue and pink jacket.

Haas said people should call the Bismarck Police Department at 223-1212, a tip hotline at 221-7202 or 911 if they have information about the girls - even if they think it is insignificant.

Haas said police don't know if the girls are traveling, but he hopes they are still in Bismarck.

"We really don't know what they are thinking," Haas said "It could be that they were gone for a little bit and they are afraid to come home."

Missing 13-year-old Belcourt girls found uninjured

Oct. 16, 2005

BISMARCK, N.D. - Two 13-year-old Belcourt girls missing since Thursday have been found uninjured in this city, police say.

LaRaya LaVallie and Brianna Mayer were last seen at Bismarck's Kirkwood Mall about 6 p.m. Thursday, talking to two men. Authorities said the men might have lured the girls to the mall over the Internet.

Police Lt. Dan Donlin said the girls were found in north Bismarck around 1:30 p.m. Sunday. He declined to say exactly where the girls were found, saying it was part of the investigation.

Donlin said other people who were with the girls when they were found were being interviewed, but no arrests had been made.

THANK GOD.... Luckily there were two of them- sometimes its easier for two, maybe that way one can have a better out look on the situation if they left voluntarily.OR at least they have a better chance of an escape.
Although it would be better if neither disappeared, I'm speaking in worst case scenerio of course.
