Exerpt:

The couple had spent a normal day together, working in their yard, fixing dinner. There were no indications anything was wrong.

“He didn’t seem anxious or suspenseful,” Jean Nichols said.

Around 7:45 p.m., she left for a short while to check on an elderly couple she looks after. “Hurry home. I’ll be waiting,” Guy told her.

When she returned, he was gone.

“For him to run away is just not an option at all,” she said. “I knew instantly that something was wrong.”

The couple has been together for 12 years, married for eight. They had the usual ups and downs, but if they had a disagreement he would tell her where he was going. He might spend the night out, but he would take blankets and pillows with him.

Nothing was missing from their home.

Nothing was out of place.

They had been looking forward to the annual Rod Run, which was to be held the following weekend. Guy had even asked his parents to come a day earlier than they had originally planned. He was rebuilding a 1971 Mustang, and had laid out all the nuts and bolts in a row, anticipating his father’s help.

Although 41-year-old Guy had been laid off from his job of eight years as a chemical operator in March, he had started his own yard-care business and it was picking up. Things were going well.

I wish I knew more about the health of the man's dog, Stewart. I recently read where another Lhasa Apso dog was recovered for its owner by use of a chip that had been implanted. If this dog has such a chip perhaps vets in that state and surrounding states might be asked to scan pets of that breed that are brought in to see if the dog was stolen or found wandering around or to see if Mr. Nichols is still with the dog.

Also I wonder about the dogs health because if the dog was a longstanding companion but was old & nearing the end of his life then that might be another depressing factor on top of losing a job & having the stress of trying to start over again with a new business.
