Human Remains Found In Yellowhouse Canyon
Human remains are found just south of Buffalo Springs Lake.
The body was found on the property of the V-8 Ranch located at FM 835 in the Yellowhouse Canyon near the Slaton Highway.
Officials say two men were driving through the area just after 4 p.m. Thursday when one of them received a call on his cell phone. The other man got out of the car to give him some privacy. While walking through the area, the man came upon a human skull.
The Lubbock County Medical Examiner removed the remains and is now waiting for an anthropologist to examine the decomposed skull.
Officials secured the area where it was found. The search stopped for the day at sunset, when darkness made the search difficult.
"We really have not done any search of the area," says Lubbock County Sheriff David Gutierrez. "We want to (keep the area) secure and we`re going to be out here all night. First thing in the morning, as soon as daylight comes up, we`ll start combing the area to see if we find anything."
Two women from Lubbock are missing. Joanna Rogers disappeared on May 4, 2004. The other woman, Jennifer Wilkerson, has been missing since July, 2004.
Officials are not ruling out any possibilities.
"We are talking to local law enforcement to see if anyone else is missing," says Sheriff Gutierrez. "We have a lot of work to do and I can`t make comment on speculation."
Sheriff Gutierrez did speak to Joanna Rogers` mother to let her know about the remains. A short time later, he also personally contacted Wilkerson`s family.
The search and investigation will continue Friday morning. The sheriff says dental records will be used to try and identify the remains.

there's an update on Joanna Rogers' site:
UPDATE - Friday, December 30th - Skeletal remains were found late yesterday in a rugged area just southeast of Lubbock. It appears that the remains are those of a deceased male and, thus, not of either Joanna or Jennifer Wilkerson. We have no further information regarding the discovery at this time. You can read local press accounts here (http://www.kamc28.com/news/default.asp?mode=shownews&id=1199).
Late Addendum: An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow morning, with a forensic anthropologist flown in from Dallas in attendance. The clothing found on the remains suggests it is a male. It is assumed that the autopsy will prove that one way or the other, and hopefully provide more information about who the person is, or at least some sort of description (height, age, etc.).

They have the skull so it should be pretty easy to compare dental records of the two girls. I wonder what males are missing. Of course it could be someone who isn't even from around that area. I hope they are able to ID the body. Someone is missing a loved one and even though it would be so hard to hear the news at least they will know where their loved one is.

Remains are of a murdered male between the ages of 16-20. I can't get to the link to copy and paste over here. My account at the local paper online suddenly quit working after being just fine.
