A triple shooting in West Tampa ended two lives and critically injured a woman Saturday in what police are calling a murder-suicide.
Suffering a broken shoulder at the hands of her husband and running scared, Aileen Nicholaou, 47, crossed the Georgia state line into Florida three weeks ago seeking shelter from 56-year-old Michael Nicholaou, police said. She came to stay at her sister Audrey Leon's home at 3321 W. Walnut St.
"She sought refuge, and he came down after, in effect, hunting her," Tampa police spokesman Joe Durkin said.
In the weeks after she left Georgia, Nicholaou shared tearful accounts of abuse with her sister's neighbors, said 13-year-old Brianna Colon, a friend and classmate of Leon's daughter.
Public records list several Bay-area addresses for the Nicholaous. Police did not know where the couple were living in Georgia or for how long.
Michael Nicholaou came looking for his wife Saturday, bringing a gun and Aileen Nicholaou's 22-year-old daughter, Taryn Bowman, Durkin said.

A relative of Aileen Nicholaou called 911 when she heard yelling, police said. The relative reportedly told police that the 47-year-old woman fled her husband three weeks ago following a violent domestic dispute in Georgia.
Michael Nicholaou pointed a gun at officers from a bedroom before the door shut, police said.
The officers then heard shots fired inside the room. Michael Nicholaou apparently shot his wife and Bowman, Aileen Nicholaou's daughter, before fatally shooting himself, police said.
