Thanks, Kelly, for another great flyer. :blowkiss:
I have just heard from the gal who runs Lorne's site, and someone came into his guest book posing as Lorne. This is not funny, y'all, this is pathetic. This is a family who needs our support, now more than ever. We have run the isp and traced it, and now have given it over to the LE handling his case.
Please sign Lorne's guest book today, and make a statement of support for this family. A kind word can go a long way in the hearts of a family missing a loved one. Thanks, ahead of time to everyone who signs!!
Keep Lorne and all who love and miss him in your prayers, y'all, and thanks.
With love and hope, Lanie

Once again, I would like to thank all that have been helping me in getting Lorne's information and face out there. Still there is no new news however there have been a lot of people visiting his website....
www.findlorne.faithweb.com
For those that don't know, I had tried to find help in getting the awareness on Lorne's disappearance made public. For 2 1/2 years, I was alone!
If it wasn't for the HUGE hearts, patience with my lack of computer knowledge, and endless efforts of some, I would still be alone looking through cracks and crevices for Lorne.
One person can make a difference in the lives of many.
Thank you to all that help spread the information and the photos of the missing and a huge thanks to Lanie and Kelly for the support you have given to me and others. You will never understand the differences the two of you make... :innocent:
Much love and many prayers,
Louise

Missing man's family plans vigil on his 24th birthday
By MATTHEW CALL
Union Leader Correspondent
CHICHESTER — Lorne Boulet’s 24th birthday Saturday will be marked with a gathering of his family and friends and the customary exchange of anecdotes from his loved ones. What it won’t have is Lorne.
Boulet disappeared nearly three years ago from his Chichester home after leaving for his usual walk. He grabbed a fleece pullover and a pair of sandals and walked out his home on July 29, 2001. No one has heard from him since.
Since then, his family has waited for any sign of what happened to him. Police officers check weekly to see if any leads pan out but none does.
To mark Boulet’s 24th birthday, his family is holding a vigil Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. outside Chichester Grange Hall on Main Street featuring information on missing people across the country.
It is the second vigil Boulet’s family has held for him since he mysteriously vanished.
“Hopefully, we won’t have to do it again,” said Louise Holmburg, Boulet’s aunt.
Just before he turned 20 and after graduating from Pembroke Academy, Boulet was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Battling severe mood swings and hallucinations, he gravitated away from his friends.
He retreated to the comfort of his family, living with his parents Evelyn and Lorne. He palled around with Holmburg’s three young sons.
Boulet bounced from job to job, eventually working at the Concord Wal-Mart, the last place he was employed.
“To be gone more than three days is not normal,” said Boulet’s father. “He has a car sitting there paid for in the yard. He left everything behind.
“I like to think he’s out there getting his head together in a big city somewhere,” Boulet continued. “But I may be in a state of denial . . . I just hope he’s out there doing God’s work, doing some good.”
Since Boulet disappeared, there has been no activity with his Social Security or credit history. He took no identification with him and no credit cards. He left no paper trail for police or private investigators to track.
“His case has been pretty stagnant for a while,” said Holmburg, who lives in Bristol. “It’s very heartbreaking because every weekend my boys were with him or he was with my boys.”
After Boulet failed to come back from his walk, family members scoured the Chichester area for months looking for clues.
Tips have been phoned in to Chichester police from other departments and potential witnesses. People have called in descriptions similar to Boulet’s and police departments from New York and Utah have asked for fingerprint and dental records. Nothing has panned out.
“We get calls once in a while saying he was spotted here and there, but nothing ever has been confirmed,” said Chichester Police Lt. Robert Kitson. “I keep checking the credit stuff periodically but nothing is happening, which isn’t a good thing.”
Just last week Kitson looked into Boulet’s records again but found no change. Boulet could not have legally applied for a job without creating some kind of trail for investigators, leaving police baffled.
In lieu of tracking him down through official means, Boulet’s family has been hoping and praying, the only things they can do. They’ve set up a Web site, www.findlorne.faithweb.com, and connected his name to as many missing person resources as they could find.
By remembering his birthday this weekend, Boulet’s family hopes to keep his name and case in the minds of neighbors and keep their own spirits up that he’ll return.

Here is an article which includes Lorne...
This was written while at Missing Person's Day in NY..
*****************************************
Loved ones share support, memories
Albany-- Third annual Missing Persons Day draws participants from as far as California
As the names and pictures flashed across the screen, there were sobs and sniffles from people seated in the auditorium.
The images were those of children, siblings and parents who are missing, and on Sunday, members of their families gathered to remember their loved ones during the third annual Missing Persons Day.
Many family members participating in Sunday's event at New York State Nurses Association Convention Center were from the Capital Region, but others came from as far away as California.
"We really think this is something really badly needed," said Mary Lyall, whose daughter, Suzanne, has been missing for six years. "People need some place to honor their missing loved ones, like people who visit the graves of their loved ones who have passed away. These people have no closure."
The ceremony was sponsored by the Center for HOPE -- Healing Our Painful Emotions -- founded by Lyall and her husband, Doug. Their daughter was 19 -- she'll turn 26 on Tuesday -- when she vanished on March 2, 1998. Suzanne Lyall was last seen heading toward her Colonial Quad dorm room at the University at Albany after work at a computer store at Crossgates Mall.
Mary Lyall said that not knowing the whereabouts of her daughter is "still stressful everyday. I still shake when I speak."
Stacey Herron, sister-in-law of Audrey May Herron, a missing Greene County woman, said events like Sunday's program gives families more hope.
Audrey May Herron was 32 when she disappeared on Aug. 29, 2002. The licensed practical nurse finished her 11 p.m. shift at the Greene County nursing home, said goodbye to co-workers and drove off in a 1994 black Jeep Grand Cherokee, heading for home in Freehold.
Neither she nor her Jeep has been seen since.
The family tries to go on with life despite the uncertainty of what happened, but "certain life events" such as the birthdays of Audrey May's children, are constant reminders that "mommy should be there."
But being around other families with missing loved ones helps ease the pain, said Louise Holmburg, whose nephew, Lorne Boulet, disappeared three years ago from Chichester, N.H. She and members of her family attended the event wearing T-shirts with a picture of Boulet on the front.
After waving goodbye to his parents, Boulet left his home to go on his daily walk on July 29, 2001, and never came back, Holmburg said. He left his identification behind.
"My sister is sick physically, emotionally, and so is his dad," Holmburg said.
Susan Wilmer, whose daughter, Jennifer, vanished almost 11 years ago from California, said that letting go of the hurt and anger has helped her cope. "This is the first year I feel healed. I realize now Jennifer is safe," Wilmer said.

The NY Missing Persons' Day went well. It was good to meet a lot of the other families with missing members. Lorene's family showed up in force and I think I was able to meet all of them.
The Lyalls are a couple to respect. They've done so much to help with the missing person problem in New York and the rest of the USA.

I have been planning a Drive For Campaign to put Lorne's face back out there. If everything goes as planned, that will be taking place in May.
I am also in the process of putting together a Search and Recovery as a SAR was never done when Lorne went missing.
A very selfish part of me is hoping that this will just rule out the area of land that he was last seen on. I do know that closure is needed, but I still have a lot of hope that he is out there, somewhere, in the big world.
Thank you to everyone for the constant support and messages in Lorne's guest book.
Each and everyone of you restore the hope and faith that he parents so desperately need.
Thank you all!
Love you forever, Lorne!

I know you are busy as ever, Louise, but please know we have not forgotten Lorne. Kelly and I miss hearing from you, maybe when things slow down you can jot us a note to let us know about the new house, etc.
For those who did not know it, NH was the first stop on my trip home at the end of March. Louise and her family hosted me during my stay in NH. On Saturday April 3rd, I rode with the Boulet family, convoy style, to New York for Missing Persons Day. It was a beautiful drive with scenic views, lovely mountains and quaint little towns in Vermont. If I had been driving, I would have stopped and snagged some Maple Sugar candy....yum Fond childhood memories revisited on that drive. Thanks y'all!!
Blessings and hugs to all the Boulet's.
Prayers for answers, and soon.

Well, 3 years have now passed and still no word on where Lorne is.
I have been trying to get WMUR Channel 9 news (in NH), to run a story on Lorne as the anniversary just passed. Even if it isn't a story, but his photo with "still missing" and his website, but nothing.
I won't stop trying, though.
Any suggestions on what may work to get them to grab his info?
I want to thank everyone that has been helping me in this search for Lorne. Many times my "thank you's" aren't vocalized enough, but please know that I do appreciate EVERYTHING. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for so many WONDERFUL people.

My suggestion is to have some kind of ceremony for people and the media to attend. Things we have used are a tree planting, dove release, balloon release, and a candlelight service.
It's hard to keep the media's interest. They always want something new.

My suggestion is to have some kind of ceremony for people and the media to attend. Things we have used are a tree planting, dove release, balloon release, and a candlelight service.
It's hard to keep the media's interest. They always want something new.

The media always moves away from it after about two weeks. They have other stuff to report and that's understandable. But while the people in the news media and general public are moving on, the family of the missing loved one cannot move on. This is something that these folks have to live over and over each day. What Mr. Cooke said is a good idea. If they see that you are not forgetting and letting it go, then they will be interested. Glad ur back Ms. Louise

Thank you both for your wise responses...
I want so much to have more functions, however, his parents say that it is too hard on them and that one event a year is hard enough.
I know that I am not Lorne's mother, but I feel the pain, too, minor to the pain his parents feel, but real as well. I live everyday searching for him, wanting to bring him home, yet not wanting to upset his parents.
Well, once again, thank you!

In the town where Lorne went missing, Chichester, they are holding their Old Home Day this month and I am going to be setting up a table with information on Lorne and other missing person's.
I don't want his community to forget that he is still out there, somewhere. I also feel that spreading the word on others may help generate hits on their websites as well.
Say a prayer that this will bring much fruit to many!

I spoke with my sister, Lorne's mom, today and for the first time, mentioned about the old home day. She was VERY receptive, thank the good Lord, and even offered to help.
I also mentioned to her about a possible Balloon Release, "Lead Lorne Home", and she liked that idea as well. Wonderful idea from Robert Cooke, *thanks*!
Please say a prayer that they keep their minds positive and hearts open... Thanks.

Calling Cards of Hope
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am very happy to announce and share with other families about a new program.
Someone, that wishes to remain anonymous, has donated a calling card to Lorne's family after hearing about Lanie's NEW program called, "Calling Cards of Hope".
I wish I could truly express just how much this helps, but try to imagine.
All the calls I make for Lorne are toll calls, so this is such a wonderful thing. None of my calls are local, not even to media....
I spoke with Lanie last night about this and she said that she is taking suggestions as to families that may benefit by getting a card donated to them. Any suggestions, contact Lanie...
Also, if anyone would like to donate to this cause, the cards start at $5.00 and just think about how much your could really be helping a family during this time. Please visit this link...

I hope you will participate! This will spread the word for so many families!
WALKING THEM HOME
This is an event that promotes physical fitness as well as awareness for the missing. This is not an organized walk-a-thon, but an event that any and every one can take part in.
As of October 15, 2004, Lorne Boulet of Chichester, NH will be missing for 1,173 days.
~ On July 29, 2001, Lorne, then 21, waved bye to his parents as he headed out for his evening walk. He took no personal items and there was no need for alarm, until Lorne did NOT return. Lorne suffers from Schizophrenia.
How this works:
To participate in “Walking Them Home”, a personal walk plan, you walk at your pace and distance, from October 15 to December 4, to total 1,173 minutes. This would average 23 minutes a day, whether it is walking at work, school, shopping, doing housework, or just going out for a stroll. You walk where you want, when you want, and for how long you want. Just know that YOU are making a difference!
Registration:
To receive your “Walking Them Home” t-shirt, there is a $15.00 registration fee (S & H included).
All participants will need to register before October 15, 2004 and all of the entry fees will need to be mailed to the Lorne Boulet Reward/Donation Fund. This will need to be post marked by October 29, 2004 at the latest.
** This will ensure the correct number of shirts that will be ordered **
Reason for this walk:
Lorne’s REWARD is temporary. We need to raise the funds to keep his reward at $5,000.00. A portion of all registrations will go towards raising this reward money as well as bringing awareness to other missing person’s.
Do you know of a missing person whose website you would like printed on the back of these shirts at NO extra cost to you??? Let me know, and it will be done!
How to register and where to send the entry fee:
You can register by e-mailing your name to … findlorne@yahoo.com
Please add “registration” in the subject so your e-mail is not considered as spam.
Entry fees are to be mailed to the …
Lorne Boulet Reward/Donation Fund
P.O. Box 426

To all that participate in this walk, we want to thank you in advance for helping us raise the money for Lorne’s reward and for also helping raise awareness for other missing person’s.
This is something that affects so many lives and has touched so many hearts.

Hi, it,s my moms son again. See all the people that think that my dose not look for missing people. Well you're all wrong . My moms always has the phone beside her incase my missig cousin calls. She's always on the internet incase of any body knows where he is. So it might take alot of free time out of her kids and her husband. But she also takes it out herself. She's to the point of getting headaches. So what if my mom spends more time on the computer then on her kids,I want my cousin to come home and there is nothing that can stop me and my family. Love ya mom. Tim
Sometimes when you think that your work isn't making a difference, a child puts things back into perspective!

If anyone has any suggestions as to what and/or who I could contact to get Lorne's information out there, please let me know. Thanx.
Praying for Lorne and all that are missing.

Family marks anniversary of Chichester man’s disappearance
By STEFANIE PHILLIPS
Newfound Area Bureau
BRISTOL — Anniversaries usually reflect a happy time and a day to remember, but for one family, Jan. 29 marks the 3½ year anniversary of the disappearance of a loved one.
"Not all anniversaries are good anniversaries," said Louise Holmburg, aunt of Lorne Boulet, who has been missing since July 29, 2001. "It’s hard for people to realize that a man disappeared."
Boulet disappeared from his home in Chichester on the evening of July 29. He went out for his daily walk and never returned home, though he left all personal belongings, including his wallet, cell phone and forms of identification. Boulet was diagnosed with schizophrenia in the months leading up to his disappearance and his family fears that he may have become disoriented. Holmburg said that he may not realize that his family is worried about him.
Holmburg has not given up hope, devoting the majority of her hours to contacting police departments, hospitals and homeless shelters across the country and said that she won’t stop until she reaches every state. She has set up a Web site devoted to Boulet and has joined several organizations in an attempt to get Boulet’s name and picture to the public. Priscilla Istvan helps her file letters, print up fliers and address envelopes.
Holmburg has become involved in several events. She organized "Walking Them Home," a walk for missing persons in October. On April 2, she, along with will Boulet’s parents, Evelyn and Lorne Boulet Sr. of Chichester, plans to attend the National Round Table Conference for missing person organizations in Wilmington, N.C. She also plans to attend the fourth annual Missing Persons Day in Latham, N.Y. She is hoping that Boulet’s picture will appear on Racing West driver Darrell LaMoure’s race car hood this summer.
"If we don’t find him, I hope wherever he is, he is safe and happy," Holmburg said, adding Boulet was very close with her sons. "When it’s time for Lorne to come home, he will. I just want him home now."
Holmburg’s Web site can be viewed at www.findlorne.faithweb.com. A reward for the exact location of Boulet is being offered and any information can be directed to the Chichester Police Department at 798-4911.

I am planning a Birthday Vigil for Lorne. This will be held on March 26th.
I feel very weird asking this, but if anyone would like to contribute thoughts and/or prayers to Lorne's family so that I can present them with a card, you can e-mail me directly at findlorne@yahoo.com.
Lorne is an only child, so this will be handed to his parents. I know that they can use any well wishes you may have.
I do the leg work, via the computer, so Lorne's parents have not had the honor of meeting all of the wonderful people that I have met.
Well, just thought that I would let you all know about (and take part in) the upcoming event.
Hugs to you ALL!

I want to let everyone know that Lorne is on the "Come Home" program through Project Jason.
Here is a portion of my e-mail...
**This is to announce campaign number two on Project Jason's Come Home program, Lorne Boulet, Jr. The link to the printable poster can be found at www.projectjason.org/comehome.html.
Simply click on this link, scroll down, and either click on the Microsoft Word or the Adobe Acrobat link to download and print the poster. Be sure to place it where both the homeless and staff can see it.**
I am very excited about this. In 2003, Lorne's parents flew to California because a young lady believed that Lorne was there the homeless shelter she was in. There was no confirmation, however, this program may be what we need.

Lorne,
I pray that you are safe, where-ever you may be. My Faith draws me to this search for you, daily, my Hope keeps your smile shining, and my Love keeps my heart aching.
You are loved and missed by so many.
I search for the little boy I took care of when I was just a child.
I search for the young man that took my children under his wing like they were his own.
I search for the child that my sister and brother-in-law are missing and live everyday to find.
Lorne, I search for you.
Lorne, before you left, there was a weekend that you stayed at my place to be with John, Tim, & Ian. I have special sayings with each of them, and the comment was made that YOU needed one. After going through many, you agreed to one. Please never forget it, "I Love You, Forever".
Happy Birthday My Nephew!

Hollywoodbound,
So funny you should ask...
Our last possible sighting was in Hollywood, California. His photo was believed to be the same young man that was living in a shelter where we had sent a missing flier to. A young woman staying there contacted Lorne's parents and they flew out to Cali. They went to the Studio Cafe on Hollywood Blvd. where this young man frequented. Upon showing Lorne's photo to many, one older gentleman in a wheel chair did say that he did know Lorne and that Lorne was a "good boy".
Lorne's parents went to shelters, walked the beaches, the streets, showed his photo's, but nothing came through.
As for the day that Lorne was last seen in 2001 ~
We have not found anyone that said they saw him. It may have helped if our News station would have aired his story, however, we had to fight with them for a year to get him televised and they have NOT aired anything since.
Thank you for inquiring! Today was a difficult day and you truly helped me out. Thank you!

I saw a Missing poster of Lorne yesterday in the Mcdonald's in Epsom NH. This was the first time I have seen any mention of him (other than here on WS), and I live in Hooksett NH. It is heartbreaking how the media won't do more to help. I think of Lorne often, as I think of the other missing people from NH and the surrounding area. Bless you and your family, and I pray that you will find him soon.

Thank you for posting this!
I just gave them the flier on Sunday and was hoping that it would be put up!
Lorne is my nephew, my sister's son. I live about 1 hour and 15 minutes away from Chichester, so my visits to Epsom is basically when I put up fliers. I have posted in Hooksett, but not as often as I should. I will be heading south more often.

Please feel free to visit Lorne's website... Looking for Lorne (http://www.findlorne.faithweb.com)
Thank you Lauramag for posting, thank you!

Nothing major, but wanted to share this...
I was folding laundry the other day and came across a shirt that Lorne bought for my youngest when he turned 6 (the last birthday he had with Lorne).
I looked at that shirt and realized just how long "4 YEARS" truly are. My son went from a size 4-5 to an 8-10. It doesn't sound like much, but comparing the shirt to my son, he tried it on, and the difference was so much more noticable.
If my son changed that much, what does Lorne look like now?
I want to thank all of you for thinking of Lorne and aiding in our search. You are all truly a Blessing!
With special thoughts,
Louise

Halloween is just over a week away and Lorne is still not home.
This is a Holiday that he spent with his 3 cousins, dressing up (ALL 4 of them) and taking them Trick-or-Treating.
The last Halloween he was home, he dressed up as a Business-Man, or in Lorne's terms... "Binniss - Min". Dressed in a Tuxedo with a cane/staff and a top hat. How those were happy days...!
Where are you Lorne? Do you think of the boys and Trick-or-Treating? Are you happy?
As every other year that has passed, I pray this is the last without Lorne. Questions without answers and dreams without reality... When does it all change?
I miss you Lorne and hold you so close to my heart. Where ever you are, I pray that you are safe. I love you FOREVER!

Hi,
I read about Lorne's case, and found this thread. Your efforts are wonderful!
I wanted to tell you that I went through the Doe Network pages, specifically looking for unidentified people, that match Lorne's Stats, and I couldn't find any possible matches.
Its not really any news... but instead, it a message to say we, the members of the faceless public, have been, and will continue, to look for him!
Best wishes!

We're pleased for Lorne's & James' families that they were one of several featured missing adults in this Boston Globe article. This is great media coverage for them and the other mentally ill missing adult males who are ignored by the media.
Both Lorne's and James' stories were found by the reporter on the Project Jason Voice for the Missing blog. He then made contact with the families. This personally makes me happy because the reason I started the blog was out of frustration at these cases being ignored by the media over and over again. We are finally heard!
Michael Jarvi, Patrick Bowman, and Michael Hogan have also been featured on the blog and/or on our awareness programs.
We want to thank the reporter, Scott Allen, for his care of concern in doing the story. He was quite sincere in his compassion. May the story bring the needed answers for these families.

Missing
Thousands of mentally ill people vanish every year, barely noticed except by families and friends
By Scott Allen, Globe Staff | January 16, 2006
Lorne Boulet Jr.'s disappearance came without warning. The childlike, schizophrenic man left his New Hampshire home for a walk one summer afternoon more than four years ago and simply never returned.
James Rowe veered between giddiness and sobs in his last phone conversation with his sister as he described the way a July 2004 conference on personal growth had changed him. Over the next few days, the Colorado restaurant owner abandoned his vehicle, shaved his head, and walked into the woods -- and his family hasn't heard from him since.
Michael Hogan, a shy man with obsessive compulsive disorder, left his job in Vermont one day, saying he needed to be alone. Eight months later, his mother is still so convinced he will call that she's left this message on her answering machine: ''Michael, if this is you, please let me know how I can contact you. . . . I miss you so much."
Boulet, Rowe, and Hogan are among thousands of mentally ill men and women who disappear each year -- barely noticed outside of their families and a clutch of organizations devoted to keeping their hopes alive. Their advocates believe that most of the 8,000 missing adults listed by the FBI as ''endangered" or ''disabled" suffer from some kind of mental illness and may have experienced a psychological break with reality that prompts them to abandon their former lives or attempt suicide.
The missing tend to be men, and their mental health problems run the gamut from sudden breakdowns in the face of adversity to chronic illnesses such as schizophrenia, which can cause delusions or feelings of paranoia. Bipolar disorder, which causes wide mood swings, also accounts for some of the disappearances; its victims follow unpredictable impulses.
PHOTO GALLERY: Missing and mentally ill
''Usually there is some sort of inner logic" when people with mental illness flee, ''even though it seems strange to other people," said Dr. Dost Ongur, director of the schizophrenia and bipolar disorder program at McLean Hospital. ''They might say they need to enroll in the armed services because they really need to go to Iraq to help America when everybody else says, 'You're 65 and you've got a bad back. It doesn't sound like a good idea.' "
The disappearance of an adult -- especially a man -- doesn't usually trigger the intensive communitywide searches that law enforcement agencies launch for missing children. Their disappearance doesn't automatically stir fears of foul play, so police are sometimes slow to investigate thoroughly. And adults can legally leave their lives behind, even if they are not thinking clearly.
''An adult has the right to be missing," said Roy Weise, senior adviser at the FBI's Criminal Justice Information Services, which maintains the national list of missing people. ''The wife may think he's missing, but he may be right where he wants to be." Hospitals and homeless shelters, which often house mentally ill people, are caught in a bind, too, needing to protect clients' privacy when desperate loved ones inquire about them. ''If a family member calls me up and says, 'I'm looking for my brother,' we will get a message to that person," said John Yazwinski of Father Bill's Place homeless shelter in Quincy. But, he adds, it's up to the shelter resident whether to respond.
As a result, family members can feel like they're carrying out the search by themselves, circulating ''missing" flyers, maintaining websites, raising reward money, and passing along tips to law enforcement officials.
Louise Holmburg of Bristol, N.H., has turned her van into a traveling billboard about her nephew Boulet, complete with his picture on the side and an e-mail address (findlorne@yahoo.com) for tips. She said people often assume that because Boulet is 25 and weighs more than 200 pounds, he can take care of himself, but ''he's a kid at heart. . . . My best guess would be that his mind got the best of him and he walked away."
Holmburg, like other relatives of missing people with mental illness, is bitter at the lack of public interest compared with the intense focus on sensational cases like ''runaway bride" Jennifer Wilbanks, who initially claimed she had been abducted before admitting she fled because of anxiety about her wedding.
Officials at Project Jason, a Nebraska organization that spotlights missing people, said the media have covered only one of their last seven press releases about a missing adult, most of whom have mental illness.
Once mentally ill people leave their home area, advocates say, they're unlikely to be located unless police stop them by chance and run their name through the FBI's National Criminal Information Center, which has a list of missing people that is available only to law enforcement agencies.
The private National Center for Missing Adults maintains the most extensive publicly available list (www.theyaremissed.org), but its site includes only about 1,173 names, and only a fraction of those are mentally ill.
''Not only is it like looking for a needle in a haystack, but there's a million haystacks and you're blindfolded," said Kelly Jolkowski, founder of Project Jason (www.projectjason.org), named after her 19-year-old son, who did not have a history of mental illness but disappeared from his Nebraska driveway in 2001. ''There really aren't a lot of resources for missing adults."
Many families get discouraged about the lack of progress -- and even interest -- in finding their loved one. People who have been diagnosed with mental illness are likely to be off their medications, making them more unpredictable as the weeks drag on -- and more likely to hurt themselves. Up to 40 percent of people with schizophrenia attempt suicide at some point, and people with major mental illnesses are more likely to abuse drugs, putting their safety further at risk.
James Bowman of Kiamesha Lake, N.Y., suspects that his son is dead, a year and a half after he left their home in the middle of the night. Patrick Bowman, who would now be 47, suffers from bipolar disorder, which subjected him to wide and unpredictable mood swings, his father said, a problem made worse by a cocaine addiction.
''Whatever happened to him is limited only by your imagination," said the elder Bowman. ''The only thing I want is that he's not suffering."
FBI officials said the situation for families is far from hopeless. Law enforcement agencies check their database 5 million times daily, including for routine background checks of people stopped for traffic violations. Agency officials estimate that police checks of the FBI list helped in the recovery of 50,000 missing adults and children last year, though only a small fraction of that number were mentally ill adults.
Police say they take the disappearance of adults very seriously when there are doubts about the person's safety. For instance, Corpus Christi, Texas, police conducted helicopter searches of a remote beach last month where a depressed man abandoned his car after leaving a suicide note. Samuel Young Chong had dropped out of college without telling his parents, who apparently triggered Chong's disappearance when they came for what they believed would be his graduation.
Mike Walsh, commander of criminal investigations for the Corpus Christi police, said, ''We were expecting, based on the rhetoric, that we were going to find a body. Instead, police ultimately traced Chong to Los Angeles, allowing a relative to find him at an Internet cafe there and persuade him to return home.
But for every missing person like Chong, whose case has a happy ending, there are many more like Michael Jarvi of Naselle, Wash., a man with schizophrenia last seen before he abandoned his Ford Escort in an Oregon trailer park in March 2002. His parents received word from a DVD club recently that Jarvi's membership has been paid through April 2005, suggesting that he's still alive, but most of the other supposed tips have gone nowhere.
''How do you even guess where he is?" said Jarvi's father, James Jarvi. ''Every day you think about it, but you've just got to hope for the best."

Findlorne you have been terrific with sharing your photos of Lorne... I wonder if you have one where he looks "rough". You know, unshaven, unkept, maybe a photo of when he was on vacation?
I was reading an article about Jerry Tang and thought of it. Mr. Tang looks very clean cut in the published photo. Its good to have a clear idea of his face. Since he's been missing so long though, and the family believes he may be wandering the streets, he's unlikely to look like that guy in the photo.
I wonder if they, and/or you, would have, and be willing to publish a photo that shows these men as more "unkept" - meaning hair messy, unshaven, etc, than they usually are, it might tweak someone into saying... oh yeah! I saw that guy!
What do you think?

Pondering Things...
It is funny that you ask this as I have been going through photos looking for the EXACT thing.
I cannot find ANY. Lorne was always up on his appearance and when he was going through the "more difficult times", no one took his pictures (as far as I can tell).
I will add a couple other photos of Lorne though that may show differenct characteristics.
If I do come across a photo that shows Lorne more "rough", I WILL add it without hesitation.

Thanks Findlorne!
Another question. I'm trying to find ways to search for people like Lorne, and Jerry Tang. People who are thought be be alive... and possibly "wandering".
I realise I'm about to ask a question that may sound odd, or difficult to answer. Is there one, or maybe more, local areas or big cities that Lorne might gravitate to? Is there a city/place Lorne talked about going to?
I'm thinking of the "people" webcams that are sprouting up on the internet. They have them in NY, New Orleans, and other tourist areas. They capture ordinary life (so they capture the odd "wanderer").... like I say... its just an idea right now, and I have to investigate more....

Hello again,
Please don't worry about questions that you ask. I have played so many in me head, just being one person with little internet knowledge, it takes me a while to do what needs to be done.
I do not get upset or offended when asked things, honestly.
Places that Lorne talked about going...
California
We did have a lead that led us to Hollywood, Studio Cafe' on Hollywood Blvd, back in 2003.
The person that called said that they saw Lorne's flier in a shelter that they lived in (we sent them out to every shelter).
Upon his parents arrival, the young man disappeared. His parents spoke to people that frequented this establishment (Cafe') and were told that those photos my sister and brother-in-law were show ~ WERE Lorne.
I don't know if I have answered your question at all, but I would like to Thank You ever so much for remembering Lorne.
It means a lot to me to know that others care so much.
Many thanks!

I think a needle in a haystack has a better chance of being found then the missing.
At least hay can be picked through piece by piece.
This is like a needle in a haystack during a wind storm... so very sad.
Hugs to you and everyone that aids in the search for the missing! You're all great!

Wow Pondering Things, your work is touching. I remember years ago, there was a video found of some unknown POW's doing labor work, but it was dark and you could only see shadow's and silhouettes, I can't remember the facts surrounding this, but some how this video was aired, and the wife of one of the unknown soldiers recognized her husband's silhouette. Maybe your work will show a picture of a familliar person or object...that would be wonderful, as even though someone who is "wandering" may have left because they thought they were a burden to their family, they should know that the real burden is that they left.

Exactly Lauramag! Families are searching. As far as I know there is no resource like the thread I started. Its a place for them to go, and yes, perhaps spend fruitless hours, but hey... it *might* produce a lead.
Family can recognise family it the oddest of circumstances.
I found these words of yours beautiful, and I believe it sums up exactly how families of these people feel:
as even though someone who is "wandering" may have left because they thought they were a burden to their family, they should know that the real burden is that they left.
:) I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for the feedback!

Findlorne, the website for lorne is wonderful! I think about Lorne often and it makes me so mad that people with mental illness seem to fall through the cracks. We teach our children not to do drugs - heroin, cocaine, pot... but noone ever tell their kids about exctacy, roofers, etc - the "designer drugs" that are so popular now. I guarantee that if you polled any group of partying teenagers, none of them realize the hazards of exstacy. Putting aside the immediate effects of dehydration and overheating leading to death, they don't realize the potential long term effects, like what happened to Lorne.
I keep you and Lorne in my prayers and hope that one day you'll find him.
