We see this disgusting behavior alot. The public is not aware of all of the cases. It is done in mens and womans facilities.
It is truly pathetic when a child comes to one of our facilities waiting to spend time with the parent, not knowing in their innocent mind that the parent has a motive for being on their best behavior waiting for a visit. The inmate waits for the visit with the hopes of stuffing contraband in a body cavity. They are not looking forward to visiting there own child. They wait for their own flesh and blood that is not a child in their eyes. They await a mule.It breaks my heart when I have to see a visit terminated because these people are usually caught shortly after the visit begins. The inmate is taken out of the visiting room and placed in seg.The child or children are lead from the visiting room unaware of what took place. They are crying and wondering why they cannot see their parent. The person who was visiting blames ot on us.The Correctional Officer. We endure this from the visiting room to the front door (short walk but it seems like eternity when a childs heart is broken). We do not say anything during this walk.Out of respect for the child we listen while we are labeled the bad ones and called meanies by the children.Their innocent hearts do not know any better. The adult visitors that brought the child in and placed the contraband on the child yell and swear at us while being lead out.

In this article, the contraband was stopped before it entered the visiting room.
That is because of an informant. Most is caught in the visiting room while the inmate is in the process of pushing it into a cavity. Some are not caught in the act.(the pros can do it in the blink of an eye).

RUTLAND, Vt. -- A Ripton woman has denied charges that she used a child to smuggle drugs to her husband, who is an inmate at the Rutland prison.

Naomi J. Manning, 27, pleaded not guilty to a number of charges, including contributing to the delinquency of minors and transporting drugs into a prison. She was released after Monday's Vermont District Court appearance.

Police said they were tipped that Manning would try to smuggle what was described as contraband into the prison on March 11 when visiting her husband, Peter. Naomi Manning is prohibited from the prison because of a prior drug offense, so the informant told police another woman would accompany children to visit Peter Manning.

Police were at the prison at the time set for the visit and asked the woman whether she was carrying anything to Manning. She said she wasn't and she consented to being searched. Nothing was found. Naomi Manning, who was waiting outside, told police she had given one of the children "one slug" of tobacco to give to her husband.

Police found that slug in a pants pocket of one child and two more slugs in another pocket. They were wrapped with electrical tape and contained marijuana and pills to treat opiate dependence, police said. The other child had no contraband, they said.

Another good reason that kids should NOT be allowed into prisions.

I took my 14 year old daughter into a prison last weekend. Of course, the guy we went to see doesn't do drugs, neither do my daughter and I. The only thing I've been tempted to smuggle in was a Worther's Orginal candy, but I didn't want to lose visitation rights over a piece of candy.

Drugs are already IN prison. One little kid can't smugle in nearly as much as they can get from a guard who can be manipulated. If you were seriously into drugs and wanted them - there is no need to risk your children's well being. I think they should enjoy the visits with their kids and keep their druggy ways to themselves. :-(

Not sure I agree that kids shouldn't be allowed in prison though. They search the kids, too.

I'm sure the guy you took your daughter to see was a stand up guy, but what about the rest of the inmates in that prison??

glitchwizard,

Drugs are already IN prison. One little kid can't smugle in nearly as much as they can get from a guard who can be manipulated. That is what the visitors that bring in the contraband say when we are escorting them from the visiting room, after they visitor were caught passing the stuff....
(no this is not directed at you, this is a fact)

Like I said, the visitors that bring in contraband through the children happens alot here.It is more than "one little child",adult visitors bring it without the aid of children also. There are inmates that manipulated their friends and family in the streets and they still do it from prison. They do not call the ones who manipulate, "cons" for nothing.
