She was found wearing a white Union Bay farmer jeans, multi colored long sleeved shirt, white athletic socks, brown LA Gear shoes size 6 1/2, a Gitano watch, a gold herringbone necklace and one gold stud earring.

Circumstances - The body of this female was located near Routes 84 and 9 just south of Hartford, Connecticut. The body was wrapped within two sleeping bags and discarded near a shopping center. She is a victim of a homicide.

I've been trying to follow this case since no one has claimed her. I live in CT about 20 minutes from New Britain. I read somewhere on the internet that police had interviewed leads as far as Puerto Rico, but I wonder if there's been any other breaks in the case.

Case History
The victim was located near Routes 84 and 9, south of Hartford, CT. Body was wrapped within 2 sleeping bags and discarded near a shopping center. She was killed by a single gunshot to the head. An autopsy determined that she had not been dead for very long before she was found. Police believe she was killed elsewhere, then dumped behind the plaza, which is a few hundred yards from Route 9, a busy state highway that runs from West Hartford to Old Saybrook.

Yes. The Crystal Ortega is a potential match. They seem to be in the same age/weight range. I did read somewhere the police worked on several leads but have found nothing. They even went so far as the US Virgin Islands/Puerto Rico.

Yes it is directly off the highway ~ right off Route 9. The thing is the body was found 3 years after she went missing. They did say she wasn't dead for very long before police found her.

i just got off the phone with usa-child, one of the places that has her listed . the woman i spoke with suggested that i make a call to the detective in ct that's in charge of the case. i told her of all the emails i sent and haven't heard anything. she also said to stay on it, because of it being an old case it may take some persistence (which i have been known to have!)
i'll keep ya posted. my heart aches also for so many, sometimes i just have to stay away for awhile, i get very wrapped up in it all.

I think with me the fact that I have 2 children and also the other fact that as a child I was in the foster care system for some time. I often found myself "lost" and I think I would have ended up in a bad direction if it weren't for a teacher I had in high school. Despight going through what I did, I managed to go to college and make something good of myself. Statistically, that wasn't supposed to happen.

What scares me is that a lot of teens that are in the situation i was in do turn to the streets. They have no clue how dangerous it can be.

There was a story a few months ago here about a truck driver that waved down this lady coming off the exit. She was on her way to pick up her kids after she got out of work. The truck driver abducted her, beat her, raped her.


It was her first day at a new job as a buyer, a promotion at the company where she has worked for years. She had picked up Chinese food at a place in Tolland and was in plenty of time to pick up her two young daughters at day care.

When she saw the man waving, she stopped and rolled down her window. The hood of his white 18-wheeler was up, and it seemed he was having truck trouble.

"I was talking to a friend on my cellphone, and I said, `Call me back.'"

The truck driver told her he needed to use her cellphone, but first he asked her to help him with his truck by getting in and holding down the clutch.

"You're on your exit, you're almost home. You're comfortable. Life is good," she said, now shaking her head at the decision to help him. But everyone she knows has stopped to help a stranded motorist on that rural portion of the highway.

She got into the truck and noticed she could reach the clutch. Later, she would realize it was because her attacker was short, only 5-feet-6. A moment later, he attacked her.

"He pushed me in, and I was still holding onto the steering wheel," she said. "I could feel the pistol in my back."

She could hear cars driving by, locals on their way home from work. But no one else stopped. She hoped someone would recognize her car.

Meanwhile, her son called her husband and said, "Mommy hasn't picked up the girls from day care."

She was always meticulously on time, and her husband knew something was wrong. He got into his car and headed to the day care.

When the attacker forced her into the truck, the woman struggled with him, but he struck her on the side of the head and ear so hard she saw stars.

She pretended to be knocked unconscious. But opened one eye as she lay there.

Then she spied her cellphone, which had fallen in a crack of the center console during the initial struggle. She saw a pen and tried to grab it, thinking perhaps she'd stab him with it, but she fumbled it and it fell. Finally, she clutched the phone and dialed 911. She screamed for help.

He struck her in the face. He took the phone. And he blindfolded her and tied her hands and feet after that. She remembers the reek of a sickly cologne, and that the inside of his truck smelled like maple syrup.

Then, the truck began to move. It left the exit ramp before state troopers could get to the spot where the 911 call was made..

"OK, I'm dying," she thought to herself. "How is he going to kill me? Is it going to be torture?"

Her arms tied, she prayed.

When the truck stopped, her attacker took off her pants and sweater. She knew what was going to happen next.

"You try to think of someone else, anything," she said softly. "I told him I had AIDS and he punched me."

He put on a condom to avoid his DNA being detected, she said.

After the rape, he told her he was going to "dispose of you because I don't want to go back to prison."

"I bargained for my life. I told him I never saw him," she said. "I told him I won't tell anyone. You bargain."

He told her to go to sleep, and the truck began to move again.

"I just laid there. I prayed from that point," she said.

The truck stopped near the truck stop at Exit 71. She recognized where she was. She could hear trucks passing by.

Her attacker untied her feet, allowed her to put her pants and sweater back on. Then they walked up a hill to some trees. He tied her hands to the front of a tree, and warned her he'd kill her if she moved. But as soon as she heard the truck start, she began working on the rope.

It didn't take her long to get free. Shakily, she grabbed a cigarette from her pocket, lit it and began to walk down the hill for help. The first vehicles she saw were all tractor-trailers. She was terrified.

Finally, she saw a car coming down the road near the truck stop and she stood in front of the driver, waving crazily, the way her attacker had.

"I was just raped," she managed to blurt out. Then the tears came.

i just got off the phone with det. betterini with the new britain police dpt. he says she has been checked against crystal, and it is not her. he seems to think she is from out of the country but he has no leads. he said she died a horrible death . he asked me to take his number and call if we have any more potential matches. he was so nice and so compassionate, and really wants to identify this girl. also my emails did not go unnoticed, he remembered me sending in my info. a few months back. so that's a good sign that the tips are being checked out. i told him about websleuths too, and how many smart people were on here putting their heads together to help solve some of these mysteries. he also told me that since the internet, the police dept's do not receive the flyers of missing persons anymore.

I was thinking too that a lot of times "drug mules" are killed by the dealers once they're in the US. I saw a shocking documentary about it a few months ago.

he said they originally thought she was ameresian (sp), but once they got her cleaned up and as he said "put her face back together" they saw she was not. he still felt though that she was a foreigner. we talked about what she was wearing and that she had nice decent clothing on. he also mentioned there was a lead in california, about a girl that had been missing, and how the police were digging up back yards looking for her. he said that the police dept in ca. were not very cooperative as far as getting dna samples to compare. i wish i had asked him the name of the girl in ca. he also spoke of crystal and her sister and how their family has gone through 11 christmas' without them. i almost lost it at that point. it makes me so sad , these poor families suffering, not knowing what happened. :( the drug mule theory makes sense. a bullet to the head, not raped or at least nothing said about it, no identification.

I have been a member of ws for how long and i didnt even know this thread exsisted omg i am from connecticut and from new britain and i live like 4 minnuts away from all of this for anyone who is wondering what shoping area it happend at it was on the new britain west/hartford farmington line it was near the westfarms mall. in the shoping plaza that has the liqour depo the car repair place. and the bank. they checked so many leads and nothing i think whoever this was was estranged from her family or something. when i have some free time im going to compare her pictures to year book pictures at the library to see if i find any matches. i will post up anything i find as well as scanning in the pictures that look alike for possible matches any ideas on what years i should be looking at? im going to start with 92 and work my way up to 95 they had 4 high schools at the time in new britain one public, 2 private, and one was a technical school i know library has up to 93 for that school and has all years for the other schools

I'm going to continue to try and contact the local newspaper and other news stations about running a story about her. I'll let you know what becomes of it. It's the least I can do. I came across a story today (linked below) regarding human remains that were found yesterday, and I wonder if this is the same shopping plaza. I'm from CT, about 45 minutes or so from New Britain. I've shopped around West Farms for many years, but I can't figure out exactly which plaza this story is referring to. I know there are quite a few shopping plazas in the vicinity. Do any of you fellow Conn. Yankees recognize the description of this plaza. Does this sound like the same one where our Jane Doe was found? I'm curious if there is some connection between the set of remains found yesterday and Jane Doe.

I know exactly where they are talking about. I drive by it on my way to college and the location where the bones were found (Subway and Music Shop) is behind a shopping plaza VERY close to, perhaps even next to the shopping plaza where Jane Doe was found (liquor store). They might even share a parking lot, I'll have to take a closer look next time I drive by. They are both on the opposite side of Hartford Rd from the mall and about 1/4-1/2 mile closer to the New Britain line. It will be interesting to see if they ever determine who the bones belong to and how that person died, and if there is a possible connection to Jane Doe's case.

The remains of a third woman, aged approximately in her 40's, was found behind the shopping plaza. According to the Hartford Courant, this is the same plaza where Jane Doe New Britain was found 12 years ago.

OK, now I realize exactly where this plaza is located. There are so many plazas on that strip that it is hard to keep them straight. Does anyone know what is on the other side of the woods if you were to walk behind the stores and through the woods? NEW BRITAIN - Twelve years before the recent discovery of the skeletal remains of three women behind a strip mall on Hartford Road, the shopping plaza was the scene of another mystery.

A young woman, thought to be between 17 and 20 years old, was found dead in September 1995 near the plaza's dumpsters, shot once in the head and wrapped in plastic and a sleeping bag.

Police do not know if the bones found over the past three weeks are related to the death of the woman found in 1995, who has not been identified. But police are hoping the media attention on the new discoveries will bring the 1995 Jane Doe case back into the public eye and generate new information.

Women's Remains Found Near Busy Malls Tantalize Searchers

September 16, 2007 NEW BRITAIN - The shopping plaza down the road from Westfarms mall is a minor part of Kristen Berggren's daily commute, one of the many points she drives by on her way to school. What lingers is the thought of the four women whose remains have been found there -- one in 1995, killed by a single gunshot, and three more, reduced to bones, that turned up in the woods over the past four weeks.

"I wonder who these women were and what happened to them and why they were dumped there, especially that first one that was found back in '95," Berggren, 22, said. "I think about her a lot."

She's not alone. The discovery of bones in the woods behind the busy shopping plaza has turned it into a curiosity, a hub of police activity and media glare. Police spent six days searching nearly 30 acres of dense woods, turning up more bones but few answers.

Websites and Internet message boards have buzzed about them. At one online forum, known as the Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community, people following the 1995 Jane Doe case have kept a vigil of sorts through their computers, trying out theories about who she was and how she ended up dead by the plaza's garbage bins.

Maybe she was a hitchhiker left by a trucker, some theorized, noting the location near Route 9 and I-84. Others wondered if she was from another country; perhaps that was why no one ever recognized her, why there had been no missing person report. For a time, some on the forum wondered if she was a girl missing from Cherokee County, Texas.

Were the other three women whose bones were found related to the 1995 case, or another unidentified woman found dead near a vacant factory on Myrtle Street in New Britain in 1991, killed by a gunshot to the head?

Missing since June 15, 1988 from Wallingford, New Haven County, Connecticut
Classification: Endangered Missing

Vital Statistics Date Of Birth: September 30, 1975
Age at Time of Disappearance: 12 years old
Height and Weight at Time of Disappearance: 5'4; 110 pounds
Distinguishing Charactersitics: White female. Brown hair; hazel eyes.
Marks, Scars: Vincent has a small mole on her abdomen. Her ears are double-pierced.

Circumstances of Disappearance
Vincent was last seen leaving her family's home during the evening of June 15, 1988.
Shortly before her disappearance, she had moved with her father and stepmother to Wallingford from Bridgeport. Police were told she left home the evening of June 15, 1988, with money and clothing.

Nini does look like a real possibility. It's funny, I looked at that case not long ago and it didn't click. Anyone know if she's been ruled out?

I dont know if she's ever been ruled out.... but wish I could find out more information on her!! Can't believe so many missing people dont have squat about them posted

I actually send the newspaper writer an email asking her if she heard anything new. She said they're still working on the DNA analysis.

I asked her about two weeks ago whether she knew if Nini Correra had been ruled out as a match. She didn't but would talk to the detective.

GREAT!!! I've been trying to get ahold of this one detective Ron.. but we've been playing phone tag.... he didnt catch the name I left the first time .. but hopefully he heard it the 2nd or 3rd time....

Now if someone wants to do it.. and see what you think.. but if you zoom in on the Correra's photo... On her left eyebrow around the hair line... it kinda looks like she has a mole/spot in the same exact spot as jane doe.. but it could be hair.. I've looked at them both so much they just look the same to me now....

Also on Correras photo, her eyebrows look kinda done.. and on jane does, it looks like they had been takin care of, but had over grown some...

I just heard back from the writer. Police don't believe Correra is a match to Jane Doe. Apparently their facial structures are too dissimilar and their ages aren't close enough.

Not that I'm aware of. I thought their faces looked VERY similar and that a match was in the realm of possibilities, but what do I know?

The weight is definitely off, but if she was on her own, she could have lost weight. The hairline and lips look close. They seem convinced that she is hispanic though, and Lurline clearly isn't.

I often think of this poor girl. Also the other unidentified women that were found in that area. I don't see any new updates on it.
