A New Marshfield woman whose 16-year-old daughter disappeared in March said Sunday that she thinks the Athens County Sheriff's Office could be doing much more to find the girl.
Sheriff Vern Castle responded Monday that if Candi Marshall really wants his office to find her daughter Mallery Perkins, she should make more of an effort to cooperate with his deputies.
"We've tried to talk to her to get something going," Castle said. "(Lt.) Rodney (Smith) did go and talk to some people and try to locate the girl."
However, Castle alleged, Marshall has been repeatedly abusive to his officers, and at one point even complained because Smith reportedly used her daughter's name in asking questions about her disappearance.
"She's been hollering because he used the girl's name," Castle said. "How are you going to find a missing person if you don't use the person's name?"
