Woman wants more action from sheriff to find missing daughter

A New Marshfield woman whose 16-year-old daughter disappeared in March said Sunday that she thinks the Athens County Sheriff's Office could be doing much more to find the girl.

Sheriff Vern Castle responded Monday that if Candi Marshall really wants his office to find her daughter Mallery Perkins, she should make more of an effort to cooperate with his deputies.

"We've tried to talk to her to get something going," Castle said. "(Lt.) Rodney (Smith) did go and talk to some people and try to locate the girl."

However, Castle alleged, Marshall has been repeatedly abusive to his officers, and at one point even complained because Smith reportedly used her daughter's name in asking questions about her disappearance.

"She's been hollering because he used the girl's name," Castle said. "How are you going to find a missing person if you don't use the person's name?"

You know what this sounds like to me? Like the mother is crazy and maybe even abusive to the daughter, and these two people helped Mallery escape her bad home life. JMHO.

It is possible to have a good relationship with police but you can't have one if you are yelling and screaming at them. They will just shut you off. This woman waited 3 weeks before she even reported that her daughter was missing and then she expects LE to find her just like that?? They have probably followed the leads that they have to follow.

If one of the people are the mother's cousin why doesn't she go talk to her and see what info she can get out of her? That would make sense to me. I wouldn't hesitate to go talk to my cousin and find out what the story is. It would be interesting to know what the home life was like. Had this girl left home before. If the mother didn't get worried until 3 wks were up then there is something haywire there.

For the girl's sake I hope that she is alright. I'm sure the mother must be worried but she is going about this all wrong.
