Cold Case Mysteries

When I was in college an English professor of mine gave us each an unsolved crime and told us to go research it and try to determine who did it. We dug up old newspaper articles and researched in any way we could (the internet was not wide spread yet so we used microfiche and such). It was really fun. I was wondering if others would be interested in trying to solve unsolved crimes?

Let me know what you think and I will dig up some unsolved crimes this weekend if people are interested.

One case that has always bothered me was the murder of Karina Holmer in 1996- a Swedish au pair working for a MA family. Her torso was found in a dumpster in Boston- sawed off by a power saw, they say- her legs were never found. I had a thread going about her in the old forum, and plan to start it up again as soon as I get all my saved links in order to share once again.

A case that I am really interested in is Michael Negrete. The only info I have ever been able to find is http://www.findmikenow.com . Some have suggested that the fella in the police sketch resembles the VanDam father as he used to be a bit heavier. Apparently VanDam worked with Mike's father at the time of Mike's disappearance as well. And VanDam had some connection to Adam Walsh when he disappeared (a stretch, but someone mentioned it once). If anyone has any other info on this case besides what is on the website, I would love to discuss it.

You can contact Michael Negrate's mother through the website, or you can contact the sheriff's department and ask if there is any additional information.

Damon VanDam did work with the father and went on some of the searches.

If Damon Van Dam was the person in the sketch, one would think the sheriff would have made the connection by now.

As far as linking Damon Van Dam to the Walsh disappearance, this is outright libel. The Van Dams lived in Florida at the time, as did several other million people. Damon VanDam was around 32 in 2002, so he was born approximately in 1970. Adam Walsh disappeared in 1981. Damon Van Dam was approximately 11 years old at the time of Adam's disappearance. Damon was from a completely different city than where Adam disappeared. Not only that, but a convicted child killer confessed to abducting Adam shortly before his death, John Walsh is sure he was the one who ended his son's life. So what are you implying?

Another swampy website tried to make accusations against Damon Van Dam out of spite because the VanDams would not link their website to this form, the VanDams would not speak to this forum owner who has a reputation of being a code six wingnut. There were retaliatory accusations against the VanDams of all sorts of things out of spite, plus a link up with a way out website that contained the untrue Adam Walsh and Michael Negrate information. Please reread my post as I said it is a stretch, so please don't label me with libel. What someone had said was that VanDam was a younger kid at the time and Walsh had been playing in an arcade with some kids around the same age VanDam was at the time when a fight broke out. I read it on this forum. I wasn't saying it was true, simply that some have speculated.

I didn't think I knew of Tara but the photo rung a bell with me. I remember her and the boy's photo being on the news at the time it happened. How sad, but it makes you wonder if she is still alive somewhere.

The Jacob Wetterling case has always intrigued me. Three boys, including Jacob's brother, were riding their bikes in St. Joseph, MN when they were approached by a masked man who only asked who was the oldest. The answer was Jacob. The other 2 boys were told to run and not look back, and Jacob, 12 years old at the time, was abducted. I believe Jacob has been officially missing for about 12 years now.

Theories have ranged from a community cult protecting their own to abduction for rape and/or body parts. There has been no movement on the case for years, no evidence, nothing.

TRINO!! Jacob's picture is one of the one's I chose for the WS graphic that Twinz designed. His case has always fascinated me, because he did not just fall off of the face of the Earth.

Weren't the police close to something and one time and then it didn't pan out due to a lack of evidence?

One of the boys was Jacob's brother. I hope he's doing well, I've always wondered if he was able to move forward or if that moment has compeltely ruined his chance for happiness.

One of the FBI agents working on the Jacob Wetterling case lived in our neighborhood. Although I never talked to him personally about the case, I did discuss it with his wife. Her thoughts, through what her husband had said, were that Jacob had been abducted out of the area, likely out of the US. Communication about lost/missing children was poor to non-existant at that time. From St. Joseph there is easy access to an interstate across the US. Traveling north, the Canadian border was easy to cross. The intriguing thing is why the abductor asked who was the oldest. A pedophile usually doesn't operate like this, unless, of course, he was procuring for someone. This is gross, but was Jacob used by someone for a transplant?

does anyone want to help me solve the 1973 case of missing janice pockett from tolland connecticut im from ct, i talked to a few poeple who are intrested in helping me i also emailed the women who did the website haveyouseen andy the boy missing from lowel mass a few years after janice went missing, in my research so far this guy peirce hes was a know child offender back in the 60's and 70's in new england he confessed on near death bed that he killed janice and andy but the location he said nothing was found and he said he did it in the late 50's early 60's which made investigators clueless and went into reccords to see if anyone was missing from that time but no one was, i think he was out of it and got his dates mixed up or just said it becuse he was all weird

Tonight on the CBS show Cold Case, it looks like they are basing tonight's case on the Boy in the Box mysterious murder (disappearance/murder)..for anyone who's interested in that case or one similar to it..just thought I'd post about it.

Wow... I guess they DID! They pulled an Oliver Stone with that show. Same location... same guy that found the body (although they did play down his weirdness)... they even used the same flippin' flier and called him "The Boy in the Box"... although they changed the date by one year. In the end, the boy's death was the result of a drug (given to the boy to make him docile for some adoption showcase) gone awry.

Of course such an ending flies in the face of the horrible beating discovered at his autopsy. The real "Boy in the Box" may have been drugged, but he died from being beat to death.

i think that we should make a list ex everyone come up with a name or 2 of cold cases they want to solve and we kinda just pick randomly or draw a name out of the list or we could do 2 cases a month and have some people working on one case and some poeple working on another case

OMG! The Tara Callico case has always haunted me and since discovering this site I was going to post about it and see if anyone had any info. BUT I couldn't remember her name!(its funnt too because whenever things like this have been mentioned in conversations over the years nobody else Ive spoke with has seen or heard anything about it!!)

I do remember first hearing about it on America's Most Wanted after the first picture was found.I distinctly remember both families joining together but after that have heard nothing nor did I know two additional pictures were found(that "train" picture seems sooooooo creepy! I ,although it's prob. morbid,want to see it for myself).It just all adds to the mystery doesn't it as I belive it is Tara in the pictures.

I wonder if anyone is familiar with the Donna Barkon Friedman case (July,1984) In Philadelphia?? She was eight months pregnant,went shopping, then was found beaten and shot ,in trunk of her car.Has this been solved?? Another woman was carjacked that month (7 months pregnant) by a man with a gun but she jumped from the car.Any info???
