Unfortunately, it looks like her body has been found:

SMYRNA, Ga. (AP) -- Officials in Paulding County found a woman's body Wednesday along the Silver Comet Trail, and a Smyrna Police Department spokesman said the body was believed to be that of a missing 54-year-old woman.

Jennifer Ewing of Sandy Springs had gone riding on the trail on Tuesday, but failed to return home.

"What we believe to be the body of Jennifer Ewing" has been found in Paulding County, Smyrna spokesman Sgt. Robert Harvey said. "The body has not been positively identified by the GBI."

Foul Play Suspected in Ewing Death (http://www.11alive.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=82521)

Police say they suspect foul play in the death of a 54-year-old woman along the Silver Comet Trail.

Jennifer Ewing was found dead on Wednesday morning just across the Paulding County line. Ewing went cycling on the trail on Tuesday and never came home.

Investigators say they are waiting on forensic evidence and a pending autopsy. Just off the trail, Ewing’s body was found virtually nude in a bed of kudzu. They say there were visible signs of trauma and obvious signs of a struggle. They say her clothing was shredded, and not all of it on her body. Her shorts, specifically, were off.

Police say she fought her attackers every step of the way.

“She put up a struggle,” said Paulding County Sheriff Bruce Harris. “We feel like she put up a struggle.”

From article at link:

Jennifer Ewing endured dozens of punches and kicks — alive for each one — but it was a stomp on her chest that broke her ribs and caused her to suffocate, the state medical examiner said Wednesday....

Dr. Kris Sperry estimated the 53-year-old Sandy Springs woman was punched five to 10 times in her face, pounded 18 to 20 times on other places on her head and stomped or hit 15 to 20 times on her body.

“All these injuries occurred when she was alive. From the outside to the inside,” Sperry said during Wednesday testimony in the Paulding County death penalty trial of Michael Ledford. “All this would have been extremely painful.”

Ledford’s attorney, Jimmy Berry, through his questions to Sperry, suggested some of her injuries were caused by a fall from her bike, but the medical examiner dismissed that theory.

It may be his job as a defense attorney to suggest such a thing but that's one ridiculous WTF suggestion.

ETA Went back to finish reading article and wish I hadn't.

"Ledford claimed a prostitute bit him when he said he would not pay her $40 for performing oral sex, according to his mother, stepfather and brother. His mother called his probation officer and his brother went to the Dallas Police Department with their concerns that a woman was hurt. But the police and probation officers could not find the prostitute.

Ledford’s family also testified he was an alcoholic and that he was drinking the other times he committed crimes. All three testified they tried to get his probation revoked or have him arrested because he had started drinking heavily, but they were not successful.

Silver Comet murder trial goes to jury

A Paulding County jury Monday convicted Michael Ledford in the 2006 slaying of cyclist Jennifer Ewing on the popular Silver Comet Trail.
After four and a half days of testimony, the 10 men and two women took less than 90 minutes to find Ledford guilty of sexually assaulting and brutally beating the 53-year-old Sandy Springs woman to death.

The jury convicted Ledford on all four counts. Now they are hearing testimony to decide whether he will receive the death penalty or life imprisonment: http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/cobb/stories/2009/05/18/silvercomet_trial_ledford.html?cxntlid=homepage_ta b_newstab&imw=Y

I've followed this thread though never posted on it...but I get breaking news updates from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution so I thought I would post this.

Silver Comet killer sentenced to death

Silver Comet Trail murderer Michael Ledford was sentenced Friday to death by lethal injection for the 2006 killing of Sandy Springs cyclist Jennifer Ewing.
Ledford becomes the 105th person on Georgia’s death row. State law requires an automatic appeal of all death sentences.

The 42-year-old woman, identified in area media reports as Tina Waddell, was airlifted to Kennestone Hospital after a biker discovered her lying on the ground just outside the woods Tuesday evening.

Police say the assault occurred at about mile marker 19.58 — a little more than two and a half miles from the area where Jennifer Ewing was killed July 25, 2006...

“Since the attack was so violent and her injuries were so severe, the victim could only indicate that a white male suspect with dark hair attacked her,” Henson said of the assailant, who he said stole a cellphone and set of keys from her. He noted the woman was walking east toward Hiram when the assault began.

I'd read about Mrs Waddell yesterday. I hope she fully recovers. The pics of her in the news were worse than many of the post-mortem pics you occasionally come across in some of the Unidentified threads.

I think the place may very well be pretty, from what I could tell from pics in the stories, but there must be way too many SICKO's living near there.
Ewing was raped/murdered there recently.
Waddell will now have her mouth wired shut for months and likely be permanently disfigured. And she "wasn't even" raped or really even robbed of anything more than her phone!

There may need to be some kind of "WARNING" put up like there are for the photos of the dead.
She is definitely alive, but the pics are just as shocking if not more so.

Here are some stories about the incident:
