If this is the guy, she did a great job of being neutral and not displaying bias. This will probably be an important factor in the future, jury selection, etc. She is preserving the case, IMO. If there is a case.

I think the News breaking yesterday forced their hand. It appears their only evidence is his emails to the documentory guy.

I just caught the end of it, very informative..."No comment, cannot comment on that at this time, no comment, and one more question? uh, no comment"

Charlie

loved the first question to "are you concerned about a false confession?"
nice one!

Before the conference i was catching some sleep and missed the "karr drugged JBR" story, can someone please fill me in?

Sounded like a big bunch of nothing (except for a televised thank you note).

DA said they have spent 'the past few months' locating this man. Said there is "much more work to be done" and that Mr. Karr is presumed innocent and she cannot comment on this specific case. But in a GENERIC sense authorities work hard not to arrest an individual until the investigation is substantially complete. Some reasons to arrest before a complete investigation are: 1. Public Safety, 2. Fear of Flight.
Asks people to heed John Ramsey's words and not rush to judgement with this
arrest but to let the facts come out.

The news conference was basically the DA thanking everyone from the Federal offices here in the US which assisted in them serving the warrant in Thailand, and the Thiailand authorities (everyone there) then saying we can not comment on the case. The big point that stood out was that she said there is much more work to be done in this investigation. I kind of got the feeling that everything is still up in the air, and they wanted simply to really talk and check this guy out on US soil. She prefaced everything with they are maintaining a presumption of innocence in Mr. Karr.

ETA:We hear so much about officials geting on TV and saying the case is strong, he's our man, slam dunk, etc. That always seems to come back and haunt them in one way or another.

Dan Abrams seems much more skeptical today about the suspect. I think he may a little miffed about all the false leaks yesterday that were reported on MSNBC.

wow--what a pathetic and useless press conference that was---only thing we learned was they might know in a few days just when Karr might be transported back to the states

Colorado laws preclude the D.A. from discussing DNA results until after charges have been brought.

"There is much more work to be done now that the suspect is in custody."

Another comment about not wanting the investigation to be in the public eye but it wasn't possible.

She made the comment about the timing of arrests "in a generic sense". That they try to "substantially" complete an investigation before making an arrest but sometimes certain circumstances make an arrest necessary "before an investigation is complete. The primary reason for that is public safety. The secondary reason is fear of flight." Said she was not commenting on the particular nature of this case.

Said she was going to release her statement so it should be out there somewhere.

P.S. Are we just killing the server or is there something wrong with it?

Even Trip de Muth sounds disappointed at best (on msnbc now).

Beckner's statement is guarded...rightly so!

Why they couldn't have brought him back here on the CA charges is beyond my understanding at this point.

From what I understand, he has been arrested for first degree murder, kidnapping, etc. I don't think he can be charged until he is in the US - because that would have to happen in a US court.

I think it's just a matter of semantics.

While I want to find out all the details, I can also understand that some information is going to have to be kept under wraps. IMO I do not believe they would have gone to all the trouble to go after this guy if they didn't have solid proof. This is not something that's been investigated for a few weeks but quite a long time. It's been almost 10 years since we've wanted answers to who killed JonBenet, I can wait a bit longer to find out the real story. The important thing is that justice be served and a dangerous person taken off the streets.
I'll admit to wanting very much this man to be guilty! I want the responsible person to stand trial and I want it proven without a doubt her parents had nothing to do with it because as horrible as it is JonBenet suffered and was killed, it would be even worse for her if it was by the hands of anyone in her family!

If you are interested, I have/am posting the Boulder DA press releases as they arive (click here (http://forum.shadowraiths.net/viewtopic.php?t=182)). Also, since there appears to be some confusion with regard to Karr alleging he drugged/raped JonBenet, as well as references to the ransom note, I have added PDFs of the original autopsy report, ramsom note, and the two search warrants (colorado & michigan), to my document management system (click here (http://dms.shadowraiths.net/jonbenet)).

Hth!
