"Officers went to the motel about 5 a.m., and found the body of a six-year-old girl inside the room, lying on the floor and partially covered.

While the cause of death had not been determined, Robinson said police are treating the case as a homicide.

Atlanta police Sgt. John Quigley said the victim had been "brutalized."

He said detectives "believe that the couple acted out some type of ritual to get rid of demons of some sort."

Jat, that site does require login. I'm not sure how to get around that.

The girl was strangled, stabbed and her back was broken in the "exorcism". parents charged.

Sorry, it was a private communication and I don't think I can share the details, only the net result: they think now that it was just a simple abuse-murder with some last minute idea to make it look like 'exorcism'.

Cops became suspicious when there was no congregation to which he belonged, no minister, not even some store-front church somewhere. Bible pages were from a standard Gideon's Bible, not some personal Bible such as might have been owned by them for a long time.

From November 2005:

A woman accused of helping her husband kill their 8-year-old to rid her of a demon pleaded guilty to murder Tuesday.

Valerie Carey, 29, was sentenced to life in prison for the Jan. 19, 2004, stabbing and strangling of Quimani Carey at a downtown Atlanta motel.

Could not find any MSM on Christopher Carey's prosecution or sentencing, but Georgia DOC says he's serving life:
