Uh oh. Why would LE do that? Is that ethical? Shouldn't they just be asking them questions? I don't know, I don't like this.

Should we start of part 2 of this thread??? I was thinking of it, but then people might still post on this thread making it even hard to keep up. What do you guys think?

I think that would be great. You may change the heading to say DO NOT POST. I'm not sure how to do that.

Grrrr. I've JUST seen that post, MrsMush - and I don't like it EITHER!
For one, I highly doubt LE are that irresponsible - and secondly, posting utter nonsense out there only creates divisions and animosity and does NOT help Michelle's right to justice; the people involved ... and it does NOT help Jason Young either.

Thought I better repost this in Part 2
PSA,
I knew I had read an answer to your question somewhere so I searched articles again.
Apparently, the decision for Jason to have a lawyer is being claimed by his step-father who adamently expressed no desire for Jason to speak with any authorities. This is an interesting article.
http://www.newsobserver.com/102/story/507222.html
"When Jason Young arrived back in the Raleigh area, the sheriff's office impounded his sport utility vehicle with all of the luggage belonging to him, his mother, sister and brother-in-law, he said.
McIntyre said he told Jason Young to get a lawyer. He said he was afraid that police would pin the death on his stepson, regardless of evidence. "I do not want my son to be talking to any type of investigators," he said. "They're not going to be trustworthy when they talk to him."
Here is a bit more about the order and information indicating that it did not require him to speak with or be questioned by authorities:
http://www.newsobserver.com/928/story/508250.html
A Wake County Superior Court judge ordered Jason Young this week to provide sheriff's office investigators with fingerprints, blood samples or other forms of material evidence, said Colon Willoughby, Wake County's district attorney.
On Wednesday morning, Young went with his attorney to the sheriff's office in Raleigh to follow through with what is called a nontestimonial identification order, Willoughby said. The standard form used in nontestimonial identification orders refers to the targeted person -- Young in this case -- as a suspect but does not require that the person make a statement, nor can he or she be interrogated by detectives, Willoughby said.

Well, thanks, charlie! Very thoughtful of you to go all the way back!
Now I have to admit the step-dad's rush-to-pre-judgement of LE does not bode well in my book! Why??? For goodness sakes - it is almost as if it's a case of (forgive me if this sounds harsh ... I'll edit out if it's offensive) "Forget Michelle and baby's murder; there's nothing anyone can do about that right now: my son's still living and I want him protected from the world of law enforcement. He can grieve later, but he's not talking to LE."
Agreed, the above is the skeptic's POV.
In other words, despite Jason being perfectly entitled to getting a lawyer, and regardless of what that move looks like to you or me - but there was really no need for Step-Dad to be so agressive about it. One of the laws of relativity sneak into the equation: For every action there's an equal and opposite reaction.

Sadly, the step father's reaction may be inspired by events surrounding the high profile Duke case - as you know things there have not looked good for police or the DA. This issue and mistrust of LE may simply be a carry over.

Duke Case (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/23/AR2006052302022.html)
Quick summary by me:
Stripper hired for a party with Duke Lacrosse players. Claims they raped her. One of the guys she ID'd wasn't even there, I believe. DNA does not match. Some think the prosecution was going after the boys cause he was up for reelection. Her stripper friend who was there with her later recanted her statement stating that her friend lied and she was never raped.

I think you must be right about the step father choosing this guy because of the Duke case. This lawyer will be advising Jason that he's under no obligation to talk to the police imo.

Hi again, Jilly. The first reports I recall was that he'd lawyered-up with Smith; and indeed the quotes referred 3 high profile cases - one being the Duke Lacrosse scandal. Peterson sold himself from the getgo, imo. The real tragedy was the diabolical games he played with everyone; the utter disrespect as well as the sneering song&dance he played under Sharon's nose. That all helped seal him, I agree.

"Hello? Excuse me, there's a double murder of a wonderful young, happy, healthy, pregnant woman! A community is concerned; a baby girl is confused; and her family is grieving; this is happening too often and to stop the trend or understand the dynamic, we need the facts, just the facts..."

That's what I thought too even though it does seem stupid by LE at first glance. If true (no way to know) shows you where LE's thoughts are though as to suspect.
My original suspicions of the contrieved appearance of the husbands circumstances during the crime fall in line with that suspicion and initial intution that he he hired someone to do it and set himself up to be away. If LE had verified a rock solid alibi for him they may have reason to believe he had it done which would still fall in line with their theory of non-random.

Hi PSA! I know and I'm getting a little worried here. Was it you (a mile back) that gave your concern about the perfect crime in the works here?
I know we haven't been told much but it seems from what we do know, this crime was definitely planned is going to be hard to prove unless something big pops up. Right now it appears to be a very weak circumstantial case.
I wonder when he went in to give his fingerprints if he had any bruises or marks on his hands or face.

This was my original thought also. Hearing that he was away on business I thought it quite possible that he hired someone to do it. She was murdered in her bedroom to me that speaking volumes. Someone knew the layout of the house and where to find her. I don't think a stranger would just wander around the house looking for a random victim and then not take anything.

This is worrying! Most posters on this thread added to the perfect crime-in-the works (let's face it, carefully planned murders these days are often committed by gutless worms that think they can really thwart officials).
Nevertheless, if this planned then it's been a extremely well worked-through operation. IF law enforcement are onto something, then perhaps the knowledge of this h/profile atty has had them doubling up on their notes and trebling up on their confidence levels to avoid hitches. OTOH ... maybe they're treading water because something's still not right?
My instinct is still looking at Jason. His alibi is 'all over the place' in my opinion and it just seems a tad too contrived; too bolted down; too many places and faces involved... Damn ... it's just kicking at my stomach in all the wrong places, jilly.

Close ... I'm not sure if it was MrsM, packer or strach - but in accordance to the probable cause doc, JY was only to submit the necessary requirements and avoid being interviewed by LE, investigators, et al. Sadly, that means his image is already tainted (rightly or wrongly).
Such action might be interpreted that he has something to hide or protect - or it might mean he's being protected from false accusations. Either way - in my book, a man whose wife has been brutally bludgeoned to death in such a horrific way, does not lawyer up within hours and end up 'frozen out' by Michelle's family. I personally would be waiting for my husband at the Pearly Gates when he eventually arrived for not giving a damn about my and my baby's deaths - and getting a lawyer first. (But each to their own.)
Shadow also posted earlier that ALL pics of Jason have been stripped on a specific website, too. Clearly, there are camps forming.
Now that LE's apparently been tainting Jason's 'behaviour' to his friends - this just adds another sour spanner to works that are not geared to driving much news! If so, this sort of tack sucks!
.... what do you make of all of this?

i'm still, however, not ruling out the VA trip....i completely understand how some would think it not logical to go up there, then after the 'meeting' head back down to Brevard, BUT Scott P went 'fishing' miles away to the Bay when there were other places to fish on Christmas Eve ......
also about the memorial slideshow....that IS odd...i had just looked at that again yesterday...hmmmm
& about the dog...if it's the same dog that was in the memorial slideshow, it's a big dog....probably some kind of black Lab mix....the snout was a tad long to be a full blood Lab...(no dog expert; just from what i've seen)

I think you are right - ole Jason is being as quiet as a church mouse and following his lawyer's instruction to the tee. The good news is there are so many ways to figure out where someone was at a certain time to a certain degree. I recently learned some things about On Star and it is amazing what can be gleamed through services such as that and on board computers in the cars these days. Either way, the police need to figure out exactly where this guy was and I suspect they will know in short order.

Hi Iviola: many thanks - and that's JUST it. Perhaps if we'd heard/seen something that demonstrated real CONCERN, let alone grief, I don't think there'd be so many battons out there (figuratively, lol). There's been NUTTIN.
Look how the world dropped Mark Lunsford as worst father of all time! Mark Klaas; Ricci - ther have been many wrongly-accused (not to say the number of wrongly convicted).
Somehow with this permissive society, the so-called freedom of the press, free-speech and the rapid development of the Internet - we have bred ourselves a far hungrier, demanding public than 'the ole school' (and believe me, I'm an ole-schooler, lol). Hungry for news; not accepting 'closed-door' policing.
Damned if you do; damned if you don't???

If so, this sort of tack sucks!
.... what do you make of all of this?
right...that's how i understood the reporter in Raleigh last night also....
hmm, well yesterday i read where a person in Raleigh stated that LE is most defininately trying to dig up "dirt" on Jason, from the questions they're asking friends/acquaintances....they've for sure got their suspicions for some reason, IMO & they're tapping in on them....that's the way i see it...

Thanks Jilly !
Either way, the police need to figure out exactly where this guy was and I suspect they will know in short order.
charlie... this is so prejudiced on my part: but the short order that bugs me is as follows:
1. Jason leaving (as reported) 10:30pm for an estimated 5-hr drive. Witnessed by many, with his suitcases.
2. He then books a motel to break the journey.
3. He checks in and calls home at 11 pm
4. That bugs me. 30 minutes out of town and he's stopping over?
5. He arrives at his parents earliest 2 pm (as it was 1:30 when Meredith called 911)
6. He'd called Meredith to collect a fax as JY didn't want MY to see it.
7. It was a 'surprise gift'.
8. We don't know exactly when he had his business meeting; if at all.
9. Family (Internet posts, rather) are saying business in VA and 'swung' by his parents en route there - or home (still to be clarified).
10. His step-dad knew of the death before JY - who fell to the ground.
11. JY's fam travel back with him: all luggage/car impounded.
12. First thing - JY gets top lawyer; comms to LE stop forthwith.
13. Court requires JY to submit DNA samples (etc)
14. Funeral: JY distances himself from LE, MY's family; gives no obit at funeral
15. Vanishes. It's believed Cassidy with him.
16. Rumours abound; nothing is confirmed - hearsay on both sides.
17. MY's family strip all pics of JY off MY's website.
18. LE states JY not a suspect - they do not have a suspect.
It bugs me because I sense a trail of me, myself, I with JY. And God above, forgive me (perhaps experience has put me on auto-pilot...but) I am waiting for 'another female' to emerge. Don't know why, when or how - and aside from their history - I just cannot take my mind off over-done 'save-me' from JY.

someone posted regarding something i said about it being possible Jason could have left a window unlocked, at the house...(for an 'intruder' possibly).....
i agree one would think, since we've heard Michelle was 'safety minded' that she might check all the windows, but man o man, there's a LOT of windows on that house, but it's possible for sure......OR, if we want to think there might have been an planned intruder, then it's also possible that Jason said "honey, i've checked all the windows; everything is secure", being the good husband, before he headed out on his business trip......

Well let's see, Close ...
What time does Greys Anatomy finish (NC local time)?
The friends were all still there: other reports mention 10:30.
EVEN if he left at 9. To stop over and be checked in by 11 is still too close to home.
I used to have my product printed 4- 5 hrs from my home-city. I'd leave at 4:30 am and arrive by 10 to see production. Over 6 years, there were at least a dozen occasions I drove there/back in the same day. Esp if I was by myself - and I'd only stop over if I had company in my car ... as more of a reassurance to them than me (I'm a get-there-get-on-with-it person).
To stop even an hour half away is odd: why not leave early am? Ooops, I concede: it all depends on what folk are used to. My hubby's fam are in UK and his fam stop after 3 hrs to over night.... en route a perceived 'long' journey.

could be, if he planned this, he would want to make sure his destination jived with this (supposed) 11 pm phone call....it would fit if he stopped somewhere before he got to Brevard (like 2 or so hours away) to sleep, AND it would fit if the 'business' was only a couple of hours away, in VA too.....

PSA,
I think it is worth discussing all of your items. Please understand that some of my responses may seem to defend JY - but that is not really my intent - I'm trying to be a Spock about it.
First - I'm not sure I recall it being reported that JY left at 1030 - I do recall it being reported that the friends had left at 1030. However, assuming he left at 10:30 - nothing you have listed thereafter makes any sense and I would agree with you - something is major hinky with that. OTOH - say JY left earlier - 7 or 8 - the above makes some sense if his business meeting was located a 5 hour drive away. Essentially cutting the drive time considerably and allowing for a reasonable rest before the meeting.
5. He arrives at his parents earliest 2 pm (as it was 1:30 when Meredith called 911)
6. He'd called Meredith to collect a fax as JY didn't want MY to see it.
7. It was a 'surprise gift'.
Honestly - I think him calling Meredith to go get the fax isn't all that bad in perspective. What bothers me the most about it is why the fax would have been sent in the first place ? If he knew it was coming - that indicates to me he had been in contact with the company sending the fax - why didn't he just say I'll be out of town til Monday - its a surprise - please don't send before Monday. In my mind this is what tells me the so called fax or whatever about the surprise gift was part of some plan. He knew that fax was coming which means to me he had contact with the company - he knew his wife would access it before he returned home - why not have it delayed until he could retrieve it himself ? This is what sets my hinky meter off and pretty much IMO opinion negates any claim that his call to Meridith to retrieve this fax was anything more than a way for someone else to enter that home.
8. We don't know exactly when he had his business meeting; if at all.
9. Family (Internet posts, rather) are saying business in VA and 'swung' by his parents en route there - or home (still to be clarified).
We don't know anything about the business meeting - but one thing I can say is that the posters claiming he went to VA and then swung by his folks - they must be idiots IMO. Wufdude has clearly stated that Brevard is in the southern portion of N.C. - last time I looked at a map - Virginia is north of N.C. These claims seem to me to be ignorant beyond belief and I did not just fall off the turnip wagon. In fact if family and friends are generating these rumors in an effort to make him look innocent - they are doing a fine job of making things look more onerous if one thinks about it.
No real thoughts on the above.
15. Vanishes. It's believed Cassidy with him.
One thing about this - I think the little girl is probably safe because if anything - anything at all happens to her now - JY can absolutely pack his bags for the big house. I also suspect - surveillance is an active art of this investigation.
16. Rumours abound; nothing is confirmed - hearsay on both sides.
17. MY's family strip all pics of JY off MY's website.
Rumors well, take them for what they are worth - not much. I don't know for sure that the pictures of JY were removed from the website by MY's family. I'm not sure the website is even working or the circumstances of its initial invention. It may have been strictly a temporary site and this could just mean time is up or it could have been closed by the owner, whoever that might be. So I think it might be best to not read much into that unless the site comes back up and indeed all the pictures have been altered - then we can read something into that.
18. LE states JY not a suspect - they do not have a suspect.
I believe that LE has a suspect or suspects - they can't say that until they can feel they can prove it. LE is now expected to do an incredibly difficult job under the realm of political correctness - which is bull caca IMO but that is how our world has changed. I'm patient - I believe they will name their suspect and subsequently arrest the suspect. The claim they made that it was not random clearly indicates to me they have someone or someone(s) in mind. I do not find it unusual that they have not interviewed JY - he has a lawyer - no lawyer is going to allow that if it can be avoided. I also suspect that the court order issued for samples allowed LE to take a look at his body, at least the articles indicate that is permissable under the order - I bet they took a good look while they had that chance.
I don't want to wait for answers but I would much rather wait and have the LE complete investigations and tie up the loose ends before they react. I think there are two statements from LE that have a large bearing on how this is going - it was not random and there was no forced entry. We shall see and I suspect it will be sooner rather than later, where this goes.

Packer, you're braver than me - or you're saying the things I want to post but am holding back.
Either way... I feel the proximity of the motel to the Young home will be telling along with complete phone records; and, fwiw, there's something so strong, so deep inside of me ... ag. Probably history dictating. Strach's posts have made me force myself to take a deep breath. It's difficult...
I mean for goodness sakes: if this was a carefully planned thing - he had all the accessories to cover the fact. Who would have thought to check his suitcases? What if everything he needed was in those, including 'clean up stuff'? No telling, I agree.
I'd far rather be 100% wrong and that way Jason joins Mark L and Klaas etc - in being 100% right. To get there, no stone unturned. None.

Good points here. No way does someone just swing by Brevard on a trip back from Virginia to Raleigh. Brevard is near the southwest tip of NC, very close to GA. There is not a logical location in VA that would justify a trip to Brevard on the way back to Raleigh.

I do have a problem with Jason reportedly "falling to his knees" upon hearing about his wife's demise. Here I go again with what I would do, but I'm pretty sure I'd look at the messenger (since it's not a cop) and say "Whaaaa?" and ask a lot of questions and maybe then go crazy.
Of course, maybe he did do all this and his stepfather skipped that part.

I agree. Men are natural protectors and the obvious would be for him to go into questioning, getting back in the car to head back home, etc. His entire family "packed" before they left. No way no how with me. As a Mom of two, knowing my child had been through this, I would have told my family they could catch up later in their own vehicle.

Charlie - I won't 'answer' because I know that's not what you're after. I sense you're after clarification (as we call are). One thing I will say is that I am not stuck on JY as the perp. My hinky-meter is, but I'm not that stuck on it. Nor am I a G fanatic; FWIW - if we DON'T totally scrutinize the spouse, then are we helping the memory of Michelle Marie? I have my own personal reasons for flogging this one - but not to the obstinate levels of previously witnessed 'NG's' in other high-profile cases.
Also, I did NOT think you were defending JY: more over I felt you were defending logic - and that works for me.
To end: EXACTLY: If he left around 7/8, forget the rest of my post. If he left at the (given) times circa 10 onwards - then please: for the love of life, let's truly examine every inch of the journey JY took out of his house.
I am so pleased you posted. Whether ot not JY is guilty - I have to say he showed no remorse - no demand for justice. For his wife and baby - and to future spouses that are perps: that's just not on. (In other words, Jase: Worry about yourself later, chum...)
You made some great points, charlie. Thanks !!! :)

What I would like to know is what time did Jason call Meredith to get the fax. Did she go there as soon as he called? Did she go hours later?
Hi packer: this is exactly my Q in early pages of first thread.
WHAT TIME DID J CALL MEREDITH?
And - as charlie so astutely put it: IF this was a surprise - why the heck did JY not advise responding co to HANG ON b4 sending the fax ....
.... which has since become a printout...

Okay, back again and thank you all for the new thread work you've done!
Someone earlier in this new thread thought the dog looked like a Lab-type dog. Okay, not as scary as a Rott but from a dog owners perspective a noisy dog when need be. Not the most aggressive breed BUT have seen them bare their teeth at strangers. Not sure still if an *intruder* could slip in undetected as Labs do seem to have a very keen sense of smell and sound? Any dog experts care to comment?
I am wondering how we KNOW for sure that Jason called home at 11pm. I have read "a friend of Jason's" comments on another board but am unsure if this call has been confirmed by LE? Anyone know?
The fax bugs me even more now because as raisincharlie pointed out, Jason could have easily delayed that "fax/reciept whatever it was" by simply asking the company to delay it's sending- and I still wonder when he placed the order, when would he do it? On the way to Va at night? On the way to the meeting in the morning? On the way to the folks house? And why would he order the present then anyway? It just sounds too clumsy to be true. I'm not saying he couldn't have ordered the "gift" the day before or something like that but whenever I've ordered something by phone, the company sends a confirmation via US Mail- and if I order by internet, the reply is sent almost immediately to my email. I am hung up on the details of this dang fax.

Many really sharp posters here and as you can tell by my listing - I'm really kind of new and my post count tends to lean that way. I really enjoy other ideas - very often I find something that bothers me but yet someone here can point out so many different ways of viewing things - it amazes me. I like very much to listen to other, more experienced sleuthers, as lots of time I can get way off base and a good reeling in is welcomed always. :)

If he called his SIL in the AM to pick up the fax and she did not arrive until 1:00ish, I will be curious to know:
1) where he was when he called her
2) the lapse of time between the fax being sent and him calling her
3) if he ever called her back to see if she had went to the house and was
successful in getting the fax (if he was indeed concerned MY would see the
fax then I would assume he would have followed up)
He had plenty of time to "rehearse" his reaction when he got to his parents. I feel he had his phone off or never answered it so he could have a witness at how he reacted upon hearing the news.

In the other thread, someone did mention another home owned by the couple. If I am remembering correctly the home was owned before marriage by Jason (and perhaps a roomate?) and then Michelle and Jason bought the home and still own it. (I think I have that right?) It could be a rental property now?

packerdog and Scout - this question may seem frustrating - but it's fair play. IF JY was in a bus meeting - and had travelled all that way - he'd not have interrupted the meeting to sort personal affairs (one would anticipate). A 'good call' was earlier suggested here that if JY was so adamant that MY not see the fax then why not instruct the service provider to hang back until JY was ready to manage the paperwork. Was the fax necessary?
Over and above all this, Cynical Cynthia inside of me returns and asks: Good Lord, he wanted a leather purse? Those are available up to midnight Dec 24: it's not as if he was ordering a Bengal Tiger from the outreaches of Asia. I.e: This was not a critical issue to address then and there - esp given the circumstances he was on a bus trip.
Hmmmm, ... JY has a company to respond to and if his alibi, integrity is not looking right, he's out of a job. Maybe he has more than one reason to 'be sure'.

17. MY's family strip all pics of JY off MY's website.

Just to clarify things. I did not say that MY's family stipped all of JY's pictures off of MY's website. Here is my posts related to the pics on the memorial site:
#851
Those of you who have been following/posting on this thread from the beginning will remember the slide show of pictures of Michelle that were at the link with the obit. Included in those pictures were pictures of her and Jason at their wedding and other pictures of them together. It seems that everything has been removed from the site, the obit and the picture memorial are no longer there.
At first I thought that the link was just not working but I searched the site for her memorial and it is no longer there. IMO, this could say a lot as to what her familt think happened. I'm sure if they suspect Jason now, they would not have wanted that memorial to remain the way it was with him in almost all of the pictures.
#854
I found an article which mentions the link for the memorial/obit
http://rdu.news14.com/content/your_....asp?ArID=94112 (http://rdu.news14.com/content/your_news/triangle/default.asp?ArID=94112)
Go to the above link and then click on this link
To read Michelle Young's obituary, view a picture slideshow of her or write a tribute, click here. (http://brownwynne.mem.com/display/biography.asp?ID=1581967)
I think that it is very interesting that everything has been removed.
#868
No, Michelle's was a MeM(making everlasting memories) web page. These are a 90 day web page honoring your loved one. You can read more about how the web site works at this link : http://www.mem.com/products/announc...nnouncement.asp (http://www.mem.com/products/announc...nnouncement.asp)
I was going to bring this over to the new thread anyway because I do think that it is very strange that the entire memorial site has been taken down. It is one of the sites used by many funeral homes that also has an are where you can sign the guest book or write a tribute. These are normally posted within a very short time of someone writting one in memory of the deceased. I thought it rather strange all along that they were never posted on the MY's memorial. There was a counter which showed hoe many had been written but they were never posted. Now the entire memorial is gone. Yes, I find that very strange.

You see!!!! Maisissy... there is a logical line of action that is NOT being addressed: I accept being told not to rush to conclusions - but heck - provide both sides fair tools, for goodness sakes...
We've got ONE re-hashed press-report.
Plus: a murdered young preg mom; a confused baby girl; a nation gripped; a zillion statistics to guide us; a known 'not random crime scene'; we're right out of a recent similar high-profile case (SP) that became the beacon of all spousal-wife/baby murderers.... and there's a firing squad out there.
If the info is skewed, we're NOT GUILTY of assessing what we have based on what we know.
JMHO... lol! Give me credit for hanging in there, yeah?
right...that's how i understood the reporter in Raleigh last night also....
hmm, well yesterday i read where a person in Raleigh stated that LE is most defininately trying to dig up "dirt" on Jason, from the questions they're asking friends/acquaintances....they've for sure got their suspicions for some reason, IMO & they're tapping in on them....that's the way i see it...
I recall that the police told friends of Scott Peterson that he had recently taken out a huge insurance policy on Laci ... just prior to her murder. The police were saying things that were untrue because they hoped that one of the friends would start saying negative things. It seems to be a normal police investigative tactic.

Lol, Masissy: well it's true! Let's be honest: given Michelle's age/demographic/family status/career/background: what do you get a gal like that - which is fairly hard to come by - and requires immed action or timely planning?
Tickets to Oprah show?
A weekend at an exotic luxury Spa?
A baby's crib fashioned from original teak in Bali?
A new car?
What else would be that vital to organise on a trip the husband is s'posed to be away? If he could call Meredith to COLLECT the fax - he could just as easily have called the relevant company to HOLD BACK the fax.
Ugh! I'm going around in circles. Sorry ...

I am very confused about the dog situation- most dogs are protective (even breeds that are very laid back) and I guess I still feel a stranger wouldn't have a good chance of being in a home with a dog present.

About the Dog, here's a link to the memorial movie which scrolls through most of the pictures that were posted on the obituary page. There was a picture on a large black dog that looked to me like a rottweiler sitting next to a small child that I assumed was Cassidy. Here's the link: http://brownwynne.mem.com/movie/MovingMemories.asp?ID=1581967&mm=0&bhcp=1 but I haven't looked at it in a couple of days so I don't know if the picture with the dog is included.
otto,
Thank you so much for posting the link to that. That is what I have been talking about all day that I thought had been removed. Still not sure why it doesn't come up when searching for it by her name. None of the pics of JY have been removed, it is the same as it was when first posted. How did you find it anyway?

I'm sure most people know how labs are, they are great with children, but also very protective. Also the dog would be very protective of Michelle, since it was her dog?
They also bark at the littlest thing, so if someone was trying to break in, the dog would have gone crazy. I wonder if he was penned up or let out during the murder. I don't think they had a fenced yard, right? Do they have a garage?
We had a lab a few years ago when my son was little. When my husband was at work the dog was so protective of me and my baby. He originally belonged to my husband, but completely adopted me when I came into the picture, which sometimes irritated me a little, he was always in the way!!
As our little boy got older 6 mos to a year, our dog would let him crawl all over him and he would always have handfuls of hair in his little hands. He (the dog) never once growled or made any menacing move towards the baby. When he'd had enough he would go out of the room and take a break.
I don't see that dog letting a stranger get near Michelle or Cassidy. This is just based on my own personal experience with labs. Also, ours was part rotweiller, but looked and acted just like a lab. Could be why he was more protective?

I can't speak of the nature of this dog. Each one has it's own personality. We have two, one passed not long ago, but they were completely different. One barked at anything that moved. The other, which we still have would gladly show a burgler the way to the  valuables in the house. The only time she EVER barks is when the doorbell rings. One very protective, one not. I would like to believe that this one would have taken a bite out of the assailant but never know. Worth checking.
They had a large fenced yard and a garage.

I am on the same page with you on the dog. I have a huge lab mix and he will break restraints if he even thinks one of the kids in jeopardy. It sounds silly but his "personality" is very mild and fun until he thinks there is danger. Had a rott before too, she was protective of pregnant me (at the time) and wouldn't let anyone but me handle the baby once he was born. (Both dogs I mentioned also lay under my feet no matter where I am or was, I don't know why but they make good leg warmers! Or trip me 3 times a day!)
Even if the dog was contained in the home (ie: caged) I firmly believe that even a mild dog when threatened can and will get out if he senses danger. If it was Jason who commited the crime- maybe the dog wouldn't sense danger because Jason "belonged"?

I looked at all the links of the obituary when it was first posted and the movie link was still in my computer history. The other links all come up as: "This page has been accessed incorrectly. Please click the back button on your browser and try again." It could be that it the links were supposed taken down but the movie is linked through a different part of the site.

A few thoughts after watching the picture memorial:
There were a few pictures in there that really reminded me of Laci.
I wonder who picked out the pictures for that? There was only one full on face shot of Jason and that was near the end.
While I think the baby should have been included in pictures of her and Michelle together, it seemed almost more of a memorial to Cassidy, because of all the pictures of her alone or with other people (G-Ma, maybe?) Unless those were pictures of Michelle when she was little? I'm talking about the baby pictures after the pictures of Michelle as a young adult.
One last thing, Michelle's family should get alot of pictures of Michelle and Jason out on TV and things, just in case somebody recognises him, like Amber did (why is my boyfriend on TV with that missing woman... type thing). Especially since it seems like Jason is staying out of the media spot light. JMO.

I have two large dogs. They bark like mad when anyone comes near the house. Unless debarked (which kind of defeats the watchdog idea), I think large dogs are programmed to alert their owners to strangers in the family territory. The Young's dog should have made quite a fuss if someone was at the door or around the house. Regarding reports that the family had heard scratching by the back door a couple of times but ignored it, that doesn't really sound like the sort of thing one would discuss around the water cooler or at all. Furthermore, if there was scratching at the back door, what was their dog doing at the time?
I was reading somewhere else about how Michelle had pregnancy brain and may have left the door unlocked. I don't know if I believe this. Pregnancy brain or not, a 29 year old woman staying alone in a large house with a 2 year old female child would probably take the time to go room to room making sure everything was locked up tight ... almost like a routine.

rasincharlie,
If I may point out and clarify something that you posted, you said:
Just to clarify things. I did not say that MY's family stipped all of JY's pictures off of MY's website. Here is my posts related to the pics on the memorial site:

I found an article which mentions the link for the memorial/obit

Go to the above link and then click on this link
To read Michelle Young's obituary, view a picture slideshow of her or write a tribute, click here. (http://brownwynne.mem.com/display/biography.asp?ID=1581967)
I think that it is very interesting that everything has been removed.

Shadow 205,
My responses were in response to PSAs list, blue was the listed items, black was my thought. Quess I should have posted that with PSAs original post included to avoid confusion.
Given that Otto has reposted the link and it works, apparently #17 on PSAs list can be removed as there remain to be pictures of Jason on that site and apparently it has not been altered to exclude him. That was the point of my response - we had a link that did not work but it did not IMO mean that family members discontinued it or altered it to exclude pictures of Jason. Its okay to leap, but having information, correct information, may alter where one leaps and the outcome of the leap. I wasn't quite willing to assume that because the link no longer worked that it meant anything at all.
If my comment has offended you, I do apologize, no offense was meant I assure you.

Hi Everyone,
I haven't been here since August 2004 officially but I've actually been lurking some the last few days. I've tried to read as much of both threads as I could before becoming cross eyed and I have a few questions/thoughts. I don't know if either scenarios have been brought up and discussed so please excuse me if they have. If JY left on Thursday night to go to a business meeting on Friday morning and then swing by his parents for a visit then it is possible that he was going to spend the night on Friday night and make the drive back to Raleigh on Saturday. This MIGHT explain why it seemed such a long drive from any point in Virginia to Brevard. (he was taking an extra day so not worrying too much about the drive time after his meeting) Just a thought.
Second thing - I have a lab and mine is the kind that would greet you at the door with a bark/growl and after you pet her she'd show you all the valuables in the house. If Michelle's dog was the protective type and took a bite of an intruder then the dog couldn't have been kenneled. If he was free to roam the home then there should have been bloody paw prints as well as bloody foot prints from the Cassidy....provided the bedroom door was open. Which leads me to wonder if the door was traditionally closed while Michelle and Jason slept or if Cassidy possibly opened the door the next morning looking for her mommy.
I hope y'all can follow my thoughts LOL

Especially when she probably saw her guests out of the door. For me it would be automatic to lock the door after them.

Our dog would do that, too. I never had the chance to see how he would react if there was a real threat, thank goodness, but I do know I always felt much safer with him. Except taking him on walks, I felt safe from people, but he liked to scare the moose and then they would chase me. He caused me to be chased 3 different times by moose. Most people are just intimidated by big dogs, especially ones that bark loud. JMO
