Estimated age: 15-22 years old
Approximate Height and Weight: 160 cm (5'3")
Distinguishing Characteristics: Light brown hair, slightly curly. Average length approximately 7.6 cm (3 inches) long. Slight build. He had 13 thoracic vertebrae, plus a 13th rib on the right side.
Dentals: Teeth in good condition, well cared for. Some dental work, fillings in lower left and right front molars.
Clothing: Tennis shoe, White, Size 7, Low cut, made in Czechoslovakia. There was no clothing present.




Case History
The victim was located in a wooded area of Balsam Lake Provincial Park, south of Highway #48, near Coboconk, Ontario.

Distinguishing Characteristics: Hair ranges from dark blond to light blond, fine textured, approximately 10 cm (6 inches) in length; may have had bangs. Average build.
Dentals: Some dental work, teeth generally good condition, well cared for.
Clothing: There was no clothing present.




Case History
The victim was located in a hedgerow, along a wire fence on a rural sideroad near Schomberg, Ontario. The location was on the west side of Sideroad 17, approximately 2 kms (1.3 miles) north of Highway 9, Schomberg.

They're close in height, they're both in their teens-mid 20s, both have teeth that are in good condition and well cared for and they look alike and both were found near highways

James Pauls activities before he was arrested are rather interesting. He is currently serving the first of three consecutive life sentences in Trenton Prison. He is known as " The Executioner "

He killed Virginia Vickery in New Jersey in 1984. He had just been charged with domestic violence against the girlfriend he was living with at the time, Rose Hoover. She kicked him out, he took up residence at the Belvedere hotel, where he met Ms. Vickery. There was a break-in at the horse farm where Mr. Paul was employed, two firearms were stolen. He took Ms. Vickery on a drive out to Island Stock road in Reddington Township. He forced her out of the car, forced her to kneel and beg for her life, all along shouting " Rose " at her. He shot her three times.

Next, he drove to Connecticut, where he killed Robin White. He was also employed at a horse farm at this location. He says he picked her up hitchhiking. She had been out looking for a job. He says he told her that he owned the horse farm where he was working. They drove around for days, his story to her was he was going to buy some more horses and couldn't locate the address he was looking for. Police have no way of knowing if she became suspicious that something was wrong. He took her to a secluded road in Huntington, Connecticut and shot her twice. The sad thing about this case is that a family out walking heard rustling in the bushes where she lay dying. The father looked and seen her moving, but for whatever reason hurried his family along. He returned about 10 hours later and then phoned police. She was in a different position and location the second time he viewed her.

James Paul then moved on to Vermont where he shot and killed George Cole at a rest stop area.

Police finally apprehended Paul at a North Arlington, New Jersey Diner.

He said that he had committed two other killings. He said he was at a rest area on an Interstate Highway and he was drinking beer with 2 men with Canadian accents. He said he shot them both and rolled them down an embankment. He said they were driving a black car/with red interior, it had Canadian liscense plates. Police do not know who these men were.

ORILLIA, Ont (CP) - A young man whose remains were found in a rural area north of Toronto nearly 40 years ago has been identified as Richard "Dickie" Hovey of Fredericton, New Brunswick.

Police say Hovey, who moved to Toronto in 1966 or 1967, was a musician in the city's trendy Yorkville neighbourhood before he vanished in the late spring or early summer of 1967.

His body was found in a rural area near Schomberg, Ont., northwest of Toronto, in 1968. He was approximately 17 years old at the time of his death.

Provincial police were able to identify Hovey through tips that followed the release of facial reconstruction images last month.

Det.-Insp. Dave Quigley says two tips were crucial to identifying Hovey.

"We had two separate tips, two totally unrelated persons, one being a family member and one being a friend of Hovey's," he said during a news conference in Orillia, Ont."

Quigley said the pair noticed a similarity between Hovey and the facial reconstruction and contacted police "totally independent of the other."

As a result of the tips, pathologists with the Centre of Forensic Sciences were able to make an identification using DNA samples provided by members of Hovey's family.

Quigley said he spoke with Hovey's relatives in New Brunswick and that they couldn't decide wether to accept the news as good or bad.

"It's wonderful for them to at least resolve what's happened to their brother, but of course, it's very sad and tragic at the same time," he said. "There's a lot of mixed emotions about that."

Quigley said identifying the body as Hovey is only part of the process and that finding out how and why he died is the next step.

"We're appealing to the public again for help in tracing the activities of Hovey during his time in Toronto," he said.

Quigley said police also need help identifying a second murder victim, whose remains were found in Balsam Lake Provincial Park near Coboconk, Ont., in 1967.

"Investigators continue to follow up on tips (and) numerous witnesses have been interviewed" said Quigley, in reference to the ongoing probe into that cold case.

OPP cold case homicide investigators have revealed new information in the haunting murders of two young men whose skeletal remains were found in 1967 and 1968 in rural locations north of Toronto...

...One victim, whose body was found near Schomberg, was later identified as 17-year-old Richard Hovey of Fredericton New Brunswick. Hovey moved alone to Toronto in 1967. He was an accomplished guitarist known to hang out at Yorkville’s trendy Mynah Bird nightclub. Police say he was last seen alive in 1967 in Yorkville getting into a blue Corvair driven by “a muscular black man.”

On Mar 9 police revealed the identity of the second body as 18-year-old Eric Jones of Noelville, Ontario. Jones had moved to Toronto to live with an aunt on Howard St and was last seen in April 1967 when he moved out of his aunt’s home.
