A convicted child molester and killer was charged Thursday with the decade-old kidnap and murder of a 10-year-old boy in a Riverside County desert town.

Authorities said they intend to seek the death penalty against Joseph Edward Duncan III for the 1997 murder of Anthony Martinez of Beaumont.

"After 10 years, justice is finally being sought for the family. It's a good day for them," district attorney spokeswoman Ingrid Wyatt said following a news conference here.

Duncan, 43, was charged with first-degree murder and special circumstance allegations that the murder involved kidnapping, torture and child molestation. The allegations also note previous convictions for rape and murder.

Prosecutors intend to seek Duncan's extradition from Idaho, where he pleaded guilty in October to the 2005 hammer murders of a family near Coeur D'Alene.

April 4, 1997 -- 10-year-old Anthony Martinez is abducted from his Beaumont home.

April 19, 1997 -- Anthony's body is found in a desolate canyon near Indio.

July 2, 2005 -- Joseph Edward Duncan III is arrested. He is found with Shasta Groene, 8, who has been missing for six weeks after she and her brother, Dylan, 9, were kidnapped in northern Idaho. Their family members were bludgeoned to death in their home. Dylan's body is later found.

Aug. 3, 2005 -- Riverside County sheriff's department implicates Duncan in the abduction and murder of Anthony.

Aug. 23, 2005 -- Idaho prosecutors announce they will seek the death penalty when Duncan goes to trial.

Oct. 16, 2006 -- Duncan pleads guilty to the murder and child molestation charges in Idaho. He is to be sentenced to three consecutive life sentences.

Jan. 18, 2007 -- Riverside County prosecutors say they will seek to have Duncan extradited to California to face first-degree murder charges in the slaying of Anthony Martinez. District attorney Rod Pacheco says his office will seek the death penalty.

Odd you should mention that now, Rag Doll! Hubby just stated not more than ten minutes ago that he'd like to take a lead pipe to this scumbag, along with two other scumbags, namely Couey and Devlin!

CA wants to extradite Duncan but I think they are going to have to wait in line behind Idaho. That's what I'm hearing on our news anyhow.

I have lived in California for most of my life. When Anthony Martinez was kidnapped it just broke my heart !! It was all over the news !! The way he was taken was just classic pedofile-- perp claiming to need help finding a lost pet. When they found his body days later I cried and cried. I had prayed so hard that they found him alive.

Back then, I remember seeing his mother on the news. She was trying to be strong and she was saying that she was finding some comfort in knowing that in finding her sons body, at least she knew that he wasnt with that man any longer.....

Sorry to ramble-- its just that what happened to Anthony had upset me so much. And on top of it, all the other horrible things this Duncan slimeball has done-- and these are just the things we know about !!!!! I absolutely hate this man and the sooner he is burning in hell the happier I will be

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger wants Idaho to extradite convicted killer Joseph Edward Duncan to stand trial for the 1997 slaying of a 10-year-old boy.

A spokesman for Schwarzenegger -- Bill Maile -- says the request was sent to Idaho Governor C-L "Butch" Otter today.

Duncan is accused of killing Anthony Martinez in a California desert town.

Federal prosecutors in Idaho are seeking to execute Duncan on separate charges, and they expect him to remain in Idaho at least until that case is resolved.
