Hi eveyone. I have been registered here for a few months now, trying to get the courage up to post this thread.
Deanna Merryfield, my sister, went missing in July of 1990 from Killeen,Texas she was 14 years old. I was 11 years old when it happened and in my immaturity did not grasp the magnitude of the situation. As I've gotten older I've had more and more questions. Our family was in shambles at the time, and Deanna was living with our grandmother. I remember when my grandma called my Mom to say that Deanna was missing. She came by to get a picture of Deanna and then went to the police department to report her missing. My Mother was ill at the time, but I do not recall her being bed-ridden. For some reason no one really looked for Deanna. Now I want to, but I don't know where to begin. Her profile was never put on any national missing person list. I asked one of my sisters a few questions about a month ago and she talked to a detective once a few years ago that said Deanna's picture wasn't even in the report. My Mother passed away 5 years ago. Recentlly I have begun questioning everything that was going on at the time, and to say the least a lot of it wasn't good. I do not want to go into great detail on this thread just yet, but if you are really interested in helping you can pm me and I will let you know what I know. I live in Mississippi now, but I know you guys are amazing at this stuff, so any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Websleuths. This is a great place to start. I am sorry for your loss and for everything you have struggled with. There are so many amazing people here that will be able to help you with your search and point you in the right direction to get more information. I wish I could be helpful, but I am not as good as the rest of them.

I just sent this to two detectives at the Killeen Police Department:
Dear Sir or Mam,
Thank you for taking the time out to read this email. My name is Melissa (edited out last name). I am contacting you about my sister Deanna Merryfield, who at the age of 14 went missing from Killeen in July of 1990, and was never found. I was eleven years old when she went missing, and in recent years have learned a lot about my family. I would like to learn more about her disappearance but I need to know how I can get her missing person report. I currently live in Biloxi, Mississippi so I do not know if it is even possible for me to receive her report via email or postal mail. I would like to have her registered with websites such as The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. If she is registered with these websites a whole new set of doors could open and maybe someday we could find her.
I am not expecting miracles, just a chance. She may have run away, but there were many people ( and family members) in her life at that time that may have caused harm to her.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if you just let me know who I should contact about this matter. Again, thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Melissa

I think your e-mail is a good start. However I am not sure if they will be able to put Deanna on the Missing Person sites, or if you will need to. A good person to contact for help, might be Kelly Jolkowski. Her son Jason has been missing for several years. She founded projectjason to help other families with missing loved ones. Here is the address to read about Jason and to contact her. http://www.projectjason.org/
Kelly posts on many of the message boards and offers advice when she can. I think she may be able to help you (or point you in the right direction) to get Deanna's information posted.
Best of Luck.

Thank you for the link ella's mom. I was asking them for the report so that I can give the info to places like projectjason, etc. I doubt police would put her on there so I was going to try to get her put on there myself. What if she occasionally looks at those sights and see's that no one is looking for her? I know the statistics would show that she probably isn't alive, and if thats the case then people like us here on websleuths could've been cross referencing her missing person poster with the doe network.

Missie-Hi and welcome to Websleuths! This is very brave of you to pursue searching for your sister. I have a million questions:
Do you have ANY pictures of your sister? Do you have a description of your sister, or any other information? What grade was she in? What school did she attend? Is your grandmother or grandfather still alive? What about aunts or uncles, or any other relatives that lived near your Grandmother? What were the cicumstances that she lived with your Grandmother? Did you also live with your Grandmother or your mother? Is your/her father still around? Do you think there is a possibility she ran away? What other details or information can you tell us? I have only been a member of Websleuths for a short time, but have read the boards for over two years, and you could not come to a more dedicated, loyal group of people than here!

Missie--Do you have any relatives named Kathie from TX, who married a David Lewis? What was Deanna's birthdate? What was your grandmothers name? I found an obituary for an Alta June Merryfield--any relation?
Was there any original police report? If so, can you obtain that, in order to get her on Doe Network etc? Did your mother or your grandmother live in Killeen?

Thank you for your questions, there can not be too many in my opinion.Let me say first off that Deanna was 13 when she went missing, I had my math wrong. I'm very sketchy on the details because I was SO young. I will keep trying to pull the pieces together as I try to talk more with family about it.
I'm trying to get the most recent picture from family members right now. If I can't get any I will post what I have, but they are from when she was much younger. I'm not sure what grade she would have been going into, either 8th or 9th. I will try to find out from my other sisters, but Deanna can be a touchy subject at times. My Grandmother is still alive, but I have very little contact with her as with the rest of my extended family. I do think she could have ran away. She was very troubled at the time, and wasn't hanging out with the best group of people. There had been charges pressed against my step father for a sexual offense. We were all sent to live with different relatives and there was much shuffling that occured. I was living with my Mom when she went missing. None of us know the name of our real fathers, but none of them were ever in the picture. We have one uncle (James Merryfield), and several aunts (Kathy,Sharon,Sandy,Jeane). Although some of them were involved with drugs, etc. I can only assume they did not harm her.

That Kathie could very well be my aunt, but she's been married a lot of times, so I'm not sure if that is one of her ex's she does live in Texas, and I think she lived in California before too. Deanna's birthdate was 2-02-1977. I don't know about the Alta June Merryfield, I've never heard that name.I am currently trying to get a hold on that police record. I emailed to people at Killeen pd today, one has been kind enough to quickly respond and said that he was going to forward my questions to the investigator that handles those cases.

Thanks for all the info. Just a thought...if there was an investigation of sexual assault, I wonder if a Childrens Protective Services file was made? If so, perhaps there is a social security number for your sister. If you can find a social on your sister, you can write to Social Security and find out of the number has ever been used--or if LE can find a file on your sister, they can investigate from this angle? So your sister was with your grandmother at the time she disappeared? If we can find out what school she went to, perhaps we can find someone who remembers her (friends) who may know what happened.

Yes, there should be a record of some sort through social services since our step father did recieve probation and has to register as a sex offender now. I'm gonna try to look into that more, and as soon as the investigator contacts me I will ask him about it. Thank you for the great idea!

I just checked my email and one of the officers I sent the email to replied! Hopefully I'll hear more soon. Also, I emailed my sisters asking for a better description of her. I know it sounds silly, but all I can remember was that she had blonde shoulder length hair, blue eyes ( I think) annd somewhat big ears. We also used to tease her about being "well developed" for her age and now I wonder, if she were found if that would affect someone's guess on an approximate age. And one of my sisters is going to ask my grandma if she has her ssn so maybe we can check out if it's been used.
Ms. [edited],
I am forwarding a copy of your email to Sgt. Reese Davis, the supervisor responsible for the section investigating your sisters disappearance. He should be able to let you know how, if possible, you can obtain information contained in our files regarding this investigation.

Missy, I am in Killeen and have never heard of your sister's case. I moved to Killeen in '93. I do know some of the Sgts, and Investigators at KPD. If there is ANYTHING I can do on this end to help you, don't hesitate to let me know. Which KPD investigator are you working with? Do you know if there was any newspaper coverage on her. I could look that up with the Killeen Daily Herald if you have an approximate date for me to search.
On the KPD missing person's page there are only 2 people listed. If you have a photo of your sister I think she needs to be added.
http://www.ci.killeen.tx.us/killeenpd_com/missing.html
I have some questions for you:
1. Do any of the people she hung out with still live in Killeen?
If you have names I could see if they are still in the area.
2. What school did she last attend, I have friends that are teachers here, and maybe someone will remember her. They may even know the names of her friends at school.
Should you not want that information on the board right now, PM me.
ETA: I KNOW REESE!!!! I'll stay on his tail about it, he knows I will!!

Hi Missy- I admire you for stepping up to the search for your sister. It takes lots of courage. You have all my support and blessings.:D
Great group here on Websleuths!
One suggestion, if I may. and I guess maybe you may call me a little paronoid. But I think it might be best if you did not provide your full name and location on a public forum. You never know who is reading!
I tried to pm you this --but it did not go through for some reason.
I believe you can edit (erase info) for up to 24 hrs. Or contact a moderator for help.
Does anyone else agree or am I just overly concerned?
I know as a first time poster it is difficult to forsee many things. You will get lots of help here. So don't worry.
I bring this up lovingly as an older and protective poster.
Looking forward to see how your search develops and hope to help in any way I can.

I agree with not posting your personal information. While there are many wonderful people on this board, it is an open forum, and there are unsavory characters on the internet.
I checked myspace, and there is no listing for your sister's name so we can rule that prospect out. I also checked zabasearch, and there is a Deanna Merryfield with a birthdate of 1961 in Wisconsin.
Thanks for posting this and I look forward to receiving additional info and helping you in your search.

Thanks to everyone for the questions and suggestions. Petra, you are probably right on the last name thing. I usually am just as paranoid, but didn't want to edit things out if I didn't have to.
Sadie-I'm trying to get a hold of my older sisters right now. I didn't get to see Deanna much before she went missing since she was living with my grandma and I was with our parents. I will have to find out the names of who she was hanging out with. I don't know if the had newspaper coverage. Most of the "grownups" that were atound seemed to act like it was no big deal, so I doubt it.
What is slowing me down right now is trying to get a police report. And how on earth do I go about getting files from family services?! Someone once told me that they could give them to me since I was interviewed by them to, and family of the involved parties- but that I would have to go there in person. And if you can let Reese know I'm very interested in speaking with him, that would be great!
Thank you again everyone!

Sorry to be posting so much-but I just got off the phone with one of my sisters.
Deanna went missing on July 22nd, 1990 (I knew the month and year but not the exact month)
She was attending Fairway Middle School, but was out on summer break, she would have entered 8th grade in the fall.
A few people she hung out with were:
Skipper White
Kenny Rodgers (not Rogers)
And a girl who went by the name of CoCo. I'm not sure of her last name.
She was approximatel 5ft 4in. tall

Missy, as I posted before, I had never heard anything about your sister's case. I think it would be a good idea to maybe run a story in the newspaper about her disappearance. This needs to be on the front burner again because it's a very cold case. She's been missing for 17 years now. Killeen has grown a lot, but there are still a lot people here that may remember something. I will get you contact info for one of the reporters to do a story on Deanna if you'd like to try that route also.

Thanks to all of you. You guys are doing a great job.
I'm going to ask my sisters what they think about a newspaper article. I think that even if they don't want to talk to a reporter I'm gonna try.
In 2003 Killeen apparently had a population of over 96,000
http://www.epodunk.com/cgi-bin/genInfo.php?locIndex=26637
It wasn't that big when we were growing up there. I think in the mid 90's when I was in high school the city limit signs showed a population just over 50,000. It is booming, but a lot of people I grew up with are still there.

Has someone already taken on this task?
We really need her pictures. I will start pulling contacts for that area, then when we get pictures we can start nagging them about getting this story in the news.
I am going to go on classmates, see if anyone is registered for her years/that school...I have Gold so I can email them...see if her name rings a bell.

dmaze-Deanna's middle name is Michelle.
I just got an email from my oldest sister. She has joined websleuths and said she will try to help answer questions too. She is going to try to find pictures this weekend and talk to our Grandma about it more.
She also said that Deanna had a scar on her on her upper lip from some type of cut or something.

Christine, at the time Deanna would have graduated there were only 2 high schools, Killeen & Ellison. The other two didn't exist until about 1998. Great idea to email those on classmates. Most likely start out with Killeen High. Fairway is the middle school that feeds to Killeen High.

I was going to be entering 6th grade at Fairway when Deanna went missing and she would have entered 8th grade there. At that time some students who went to Fairway were also being sent to Ellison High School after they completed the 8th grade. Emailing former students of both schools (graduating class of 95) would be a great idea. I know the fact that I don't have pictures of her is not helping, I should have some soon.

I didn't realize that. Was before my time :blushing: Now all Fairway goes to Killeen High. Mine were at West Ward Elementary grades K-3 in '93-96, then we moved.

Every few years there is an article run about Jenna. I also search UID for her. She was Korean/White, so I look for both Asian and White. No trace of her has ever been found.
Christine, at the time Deanna would have graduated there were only 2 high schools, Killeen & Ellison. The other two didn't exist until about 1998. Great idea to email those on classmates. Most likely start out with Killeen High. Fairway is the middle school that feeds to Killeen High.
Thanks Sadie! I will update you all with Classmates project...going to add these 2 schools now.
Sadie, you are local?? What is the closest big city?

Yes, I live in Killeen. The closest "big" city is Austin. Anyone needing someone to go knock on doors let me know. We are expecting heavy storms today, so I will put off going to the library to search for newspaper articles until tomorrow.

I would start with Killeen High, then Ellison. Harker Height & Shoemaker didn't exist in '95. Killeen is very transient because of Fort Hood. Many of the graduates probably didn't even attend middle school in Killeen. Also, there would be no way to find students who attended Fairway with Deanna if the the military reassigned the parents to another base prior to high school. The average military stay is 3-5 years. It's going to be a tough job tracking down those who knew Deanna in middle school.

 That's the spirit!!!!! It may help finding those students by emailing classmates.com high schools that are near army bases. The major army divisions here at the time were 1st Cavalry, 2nd Armor Defense, 13th Cos Com. Those divisions rotated to certain other bases. But checking the bases webpages will probably tell you which divisions are there. There were a few other smaller battalions of support groups, MP's, Engineers, etc. The 4th Infantry Division (now in Iraq) didn't arrive until around '99 to replace the 2nd AD.

Yes, she should have graduated in 95. For some reason I remember 4th infantry division being there. Is that part of one of the one's you listed Sadie? Also, as far as I know Deanna didn't hang out with too many military kids, but like you said "no stone left unturned". My oldest sister just told me she had a friend who was a p.i. that tried to help in the late 90's. She said he ran her ssn then but didn't get any hits. Of course, as soon as I get a hold of it I'm gonna try aigain.

The guys here in 2nd Armour Div changed over to 4th ID. Their unit patches all got changed over when the 4th was officially here. The 2AD was deactivated/retired as a unit at Fort Hood.

I'm thinking she is related to the Deanna Merryfield born in 1961 that Jaded found. That could be her daugher that graduated in '95? Both are in WI. Means the '61 Deanna gave birth at age 16, which is possible. Or another relative named their daughter after the '61 Deanna?

Oh, I do not think you are being pushy!! I think we are all anxious to see pics and to help Missie find her sister! Sometimes it is better to "depersonalize" as you say. I have found with my own research that if I de-personalize it, I am able to think more objectively. Sometimes it takes just one little clue to unravel a whole mystery. Wouldn't it be wonderful if Deanna's disappearance just had to do with her getting pregant, and she is alive and well and Missie will find her sister and gain a niece or nephew in the process?? Perhaps Deanna is out there looking too, and thinks noone loves her or wants to find her, but she sees one of Missies posts and realizes how much she is loved and missed. That makes everything we post here ALL worth it!! In some ways this reminds me of the Rose Cole mystery. I am thinking all we need is the right clue to find Deanna. Pictures would most definitely help!! :blowkiss:

Yeah, Deanna does have a twin but they don't look alike. Merryfield was our Mother's maiden name. (My Grandmother's married name) I believe my granmother's maiden name was Varner( first name Edith) but I will have to check to be sure. Deanna and I didn't have the same father. I don't think she would have gone to live with her father, none of us knew our father's names. The only nicknames I remember calling her was Prissy, Nanna, and Danger Mouse (only because it was the same initials as hers). Our Mother's father was in the military so I believe they travelled a bit when she was young, but I know my mother went to Killeen HS. All of us (me and my sisters) were born in Texas in Killeen. I'm not sure exactly where in the midwest my granmother's extended family lived, I will ask.

My Grandmother did live in Killeen, and still does. I don't remember Deanna disliking her first name, but who knows, right?
She was a beautiful little girl. We went to Austin last week and one of my sisters said my daughter reminded her of Deanna, it just about broke my heart!:(

I have been asked through pm by someone who's diligent work I admire greatly to recall everything I know about Deanna's disappearance. I was asked to differentiate between what I know, and what I've been told by family. I am going to do the best I can to fulfill that request, but it is much more complicated than it seems. I was 11 years old, and due to either my mind blocking out that time in my life, or me just getting older, I don't remember much of it.
What I do remember:
My Mother was an alcoholic and was in the hospital in the summer of 89. Then allegations were raised against our stepfather about molestation. We were all interviewed by cps. Shortly after my mother got out of the hospital she was told that either our stepfather would have to leave or us girls would have to leave. Us girls were sent to live with different family members, all in the Killeen area. As I was so young at the time I was under the impression that everything was fine and it was all taken care of once us girls were given permission to come back home, but if I remember correctly, I was the only one who returned home at that time. I found out last year that in fact our stepfather was charged with indecency with a child. Although I'm not positive, I would have to assume that this charge was from Deanna considering the age and date the disposition was given.

When Deanna went missing she was hanging out with troubling people. I don't know specifics on them, but know everyone told me they were trouble makers.
On July 22nd 1990 Deanna visited her twin at about 1 a.m at our uncle's home ( where her twin was living). As far as I know, there wasn't an arguement and I don't see what they could have argued about. Her twin said "she left with some boys"Later that day our Grandma called my Mom at our house and said Deanna was missing. She came over and got a picture of Deanna to file a missing persons report. And that was pretty much the last I heard about it. She had a few "boyfriends" one was named Skipper White and the other we only knew by "michael". I don't remember anyone else living in my grandma's house unless our cousin was staying there. His name is Randy Clapp.

I am wondering if Deanna is not listed as missing in the state of Texas, can Missie, as her sister go ahead and report Deanna missing now?: If so, I imagine she would be able to put the date last seen to accurately reflect the time of Deanna's disappearance. This way, she can hopefully get up on all of the sites, along with possble dentals and/or DNA.
Since you and your sister have the same mother then you both have identical mitochondrial DNA, and you each share 50% of your mother's nuclear DNA. So, you could suggest to LE that you could give a sample of each to cmpare with current cases and to keep on file.
In addition, can you find out if Deanna ever went to the dentist, if so where, and try to get dental records. If you offer LE these things, it may be helpful. I don't know how much of what I say is possible. But, it sure wouldn't hurt to ask.

Okat thank you. The dental records are a very good idea. She isn't listed on any missing person website. I've been trying to get ahold of the investigator that is supposed to have her case, but I've had no luck. Can I get her on those websites without the missing person report from LE?
Our mother passed away 5 years ago, do we have to have our mothers dna in order to get the mitochondrial dna?

Guys, you are awesome! I hope that it is okay with everyone if I am here.
Hi Missie:). No worries. Your memory is fine. I imagine in time you may recall more, and the key to that may be to stay as mentally relaxed as you can and don't pressure yourself. I hope that this was not too painful for you to recall and post it. The information you provided is very helpful. And, it is not far off from what I thought may have happened. I may have lots more questions, and I hope it doesn't overload your brain lol. If it does, please let me know that you need to take a break.
I need to leave StarBucks and head home to care for my animals. Then I need to train. I should be back on later tonight. Best to you Missie, and I will do what I can to help you to find dear Deanna.

This must be so hard for you Melissa--you are so brave! I am curious to what exactly was said the night Deanna went to see her twin. Maybe she planned on leaving and wanted to say goodbye? Is there any chance that your stepfather is responsible for your sisters disappearance, especially in light of the fact that the sexual abuse case may have had to do with her? Is there a chance it was not Deanna but her twin that was abused? Does Deanna's twin want to find her?

Thanks JDB...I also got yer PM, I deleted the MySpace page I thought might be her from the forum because after looking at who I believe to be the owner of that site she has dark brown/black hair.... It was the children in the videos that caught my eye.
Here is the space again....it was the name, and the looks of the children that drew me there. WARNING-OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE!

Take a look at her ears in this pic, and the color of the eyes. Hair looks as though it might be dyed.

I jst got an email from our oldest sister. She just talked to our Grandma. I have edited out Deanna's ssn
She and Grandma stayed up late watching movies, went to bed @ 1:30AM, let her sleep in until 11AM, went in & she wasn’t there. G called Jimmy & he said that Deanna was there (to talk to Becky I think) around 3:30 AM in a brown car, w 2 guys that she said were my friends. I called everyone I could think of when I got back from VA and got nothing from anyone.
This was around the same time that Kenneth McDuff & John Whorley were hanging out (Kenneth McDuff is the guy in prison for killing a bunch of girls around that same time…John Whorley might still be in prison, not sure what for).
Don’t know if it matters, but she said something about McDuff and Whorley use to buy drugs from 1- eyed Jack in Simmonsville
Didn’t take makeup or anything with her.
The Deanna in Wisconsin is not her, trust me, I’ve called her a few times.
I'm gonna write her back. I'm not sure if she means Kenneth Mcduff and John Whorley were hanging out with Deanna, our were just known to be in the area. And I have no idea who 1-eyed Jack in Simmonsville is.
Our Grandma gave her height at 5ft 4 in and weight at 115 lbs.

1. ONE OF YOUR SCARS, HOW DID YOU GET it?
I got a scar on my shin from where I fell off a bike, but it was one of those old 10 speeds with the skinny tires and spike peddals, and the spike went into my shin and hit the bone.. it was pretty crazy

I just got back, and my daughter is feeding the animals for me, so I can be here(what a sweetie!).
The good thing about mitochondrial DNA is that the mother always passes it down unchanged so that hers is 100% identical to all of her children(regardless of the father). This means that every child that your mother has had has the exact same mitochondrial DNA.
Mitochondrial DNA is different from nuclear DNA. Tests using mitochondrial DNA are not quite as definitive as nuclear DNA; but they are quite accurate, and the combo of you and your sister having identical mitochondrial DNA and sharing a fair amount of nuclear DNA should be more than enough to make a match. You don't need your Mom for a mitochondrial DNA test.
If you don't hear back from LE by Monday early afternoon you may want to give another call to say you are checking in to see what is new and where you will go from there. You may want to ask to file a missing persons report.

I am REALLY thinking that this is NOT Deanna. First of all, she lists her hometown as Wildomar, California. Also, she got some of her tattoos done in Germany, so I am guessing her husband is military, so they are stationed at Ft Hood. Finally, she is a Pisces, and Deanna would be an Aquarius, as her birthday is right around mine.

I found the Pineapple reference at the link you provided with his offender information. Pineapple was listed as a nickname or alias. I googled his last name and almost all references came up as Hawaiian names. :) I do not have info on the SSN--I would love to know a site for that as well! I wonder if she was hanging with a "bad crowd" if she had any arrest warrants? Since she would have been a minor though, those records would have been sealed. Why do you think she may have gone to Barren County High? Did she like school, did she do well in school do you know? Do you think she would have finished school, or would she have dropped out if she had run away? Thanks for the info on Skipper--is that his real name? I could not find a Skipper White listed in TX. The only reason I thought Barren County High was because Cave City is in Barren county. I'm not sure if she would have finished school, but I was just hoping that maybe someone who did go to school there might have known her. Skipper is his real name. I'll have to work on tracking down her friends.

Missie, do you know what your sister meant by this? Who's friends were in the brown car? Were they Deanna's friends, or your sister's friends, or who's? I am confused. Thanks in advance
G called Jimmy & he said that Deanna was there (to talk to Becky I think) around 3:30 AM in a brown car, w 2 guys that she said were my friends.
Do you or your sister who may be joining us feel any bond or have you ever been close with your stepfather? If so, I will be more careful of words I choose when speaking about him. If not, I will just speak my mind.
Can you tell me the exact area from which Deanna disappeared form, for example the street name from where she disappeared?
Jaded, the Texas Sex Offender Site is down for its typical maintenance. Can you tell me the stepfather's full name?
My gut feeling so far is that something went wrong in young Deanna's emotional and psychological development as a result of extreme family dysfunction and possibly sexual abuse. It appears she became, "tough" and began associating with less than desirable people because that was who she could best relate to.
At that point in her life I doubt she would have continued with school if she ran away, although ITA that every school should be checked in case she continued with school. If she ran away it is possible she continued on a downhill spiral into a drug filled life. But, she also could have changed her life for the better. The problem I have with that is that I would think she would have contacted someone in her family like a sister whom she would have had no problem with in the past. If your grandmother still lives in the same place I would think she knows where to find family. She could still be alive, but be homeless and troubled. And, unfortunately, she may not be with us anymore.
The two in the brown car she was reportedly last seen with--I would like to know a lot more about them. I would also love to confirm that story in a cement like manner. Is it possible she actually went back home that night and a a run in with the stepfather? What if your grandmother never knew? I would also like to know a lot more about the step father.
I have a feeling that either Deanna's case slipped through the cracks in LE or for reasons we can only speculate at this point, one or more of the adult family members at that time did not put forth the effort to find Deanna that we would expect. It may have been a combination of both.
However, we have at this time a surprising amount of seemingly good information and at least 3 people willing to trace back in their minds to that time period and Deanna's disappearance. That is more than we get in many cases.
What I say here is my own speculations for the most part, and I hope that I have not been insensitive. I believe that the only way to find the truth is to face the truth and the facts of what may have lead up to Deanna's disappearance. Some of this can be dang hard to take, and I can see that. You seem to be an outstanding person, Missie, and I admire your courage, your strength, and your motivation to do the next right thing.

Should we contact Skipper? I think that we should compile the list of people who were her friends, and send emails inquiring of their last contact with her just to get some base info.
Hey Jaded:). Great idea. Maybe we can help to organize this the best way we can to afford the best chance of finding Deanna and the truth of what happened to her?

That is a great idea. I've tried looking him up online. I'm not very good at finding people online but I did a Zabasearch on Skipper White and couldn't find anything. So I did a search for Skip White and was able to find two that seemed likely to be him (one in Killeen, one in Harker Heights, which is a sister-city of Killeen). Here's the link:

Missie, do you know what your sister meant by this? Who's friends were in the brown car? Were they Deanna's friends, or your sister's friends, or who's? I am confused. Thanks in advance

There is some question as to who was in that car and who saw them. Our Grandma said they were friends of our oldest sister. But Grandma said she got that info from Deanna's twin the day Deanna went missing. Now Deanna's twin doesn't remember saying that. Our oldest sister tried calling all of her friends when she came back from Virginia (she was spending the summer with an aunt) but couldn't figure out who it could have been.
My older sister (the one who may join us) and I no longer have an emotional connection to our Stepfather. I was close to him, but events last year ended that. His full name is Roy Lapua Kaopuiki. Trust me, I share the same opinion as most people when it comes to him.
I agree Deanna was definately "toughing" up. I too think she would have contacted us by now if she were still alive. And that leaves the theories of her meeting with foul play either from our stepdad. I started all of this because I want her in the missing person databases so that people like us here on Websleuths can consider her too when looking at UID's.

Good Morning Missie:). I recall that you said that Skipper was his actual name. Is this because that is all he ever went by? Or do you have reason to believe that is true? I know you were just 11 at the time, and I want to do all we can to track him down. He has a very common last name, White. It would indeed make things easier if his his legal birth name is in fact, Skipper--not so common.
Concerning the possible night of Deanna's disappearance, I understand the confusion. Is it possible, I wonder, that Deanna's twin assumed the 2 men were your older sister's friends? I imagine it is still possible that they were. But, at this point they could have been anyone. Hopefully, once your other sister comes on we can get a hint about that. It could be important. If anyone can remember anything about the car, the men--anything--it could help. I fully understand that it has been many years, though.
Thank you for your step father's name. I am very sorry for anything any of you, including dear Deanna has ever had to go through as a result of that man. There is no love lost on my part concerning convicted sex offenders. I get the feeling that you have not only survived your past, but have thrived and have broken the chain of dysfunction--kudos, to you.
I see several possibilities that could have resulted in Deanna's disappearance so far. I think like it seems others do, that we need to check out the 2 men in the brown car, Roy K., and Skipper or another bf. Do you agree? Or do you have different gut feelings and/or anything to add about this?

I recieved another email from my oldest sister last night. She's been trying to post on here, but for some reason it is not letting her. Any ideas why? Here are parts of the email that may be important I will post my explaination to certain things said in Blue
hey, i still can't post to websleuths for some reason...something Grandma told me was that sometime when all this attention started with 'Roy', mom called Grandma and told her that Deanna was missing. ( this was in the summer/fall of 1989) Grandma told mom she'd go look for her, but only as long as Roy did NOT follow her. She got in her car and went to Skipper's house to look for Deanna. She pulled up, then so did Roy and Skipper started cussing him out..she had gone to Skipper's house;she confided in Skipper. I think Skipper came around a few yrs after she went missing, but didn't have any info. I saw a post on websleuths saying maybe they were close. I think they must have been. just wanted to let you in on that little bit of info.
also:
there's no way she was in trouble or pregnant...like i told you, Grandma would never do that. ( when she says "do that" she means our Grandma would not send her to live with family)
Grandma was from Ohio..she had sisters in KY and IL, but we never knew them enough for her to go there.
Grandma has all of the stuff she left behind. it didn't look like she was planning on leaving for more than the night. she left everything-even her makeup. Grandma has a blanket (maybe 2), clothes, a teddy bear-everything of hers. i don't know if dna can still be gotten from any of her stuff, but just fyi-we have all of her stuff. Grandma said it isn't much bc she didn't have much.
Grandma said she called to KPD and they had taken her off of the missing list bc she turned 18. Grandma had to tell them that no-Becky came back that Deanna was still missing ( if I remember correctly, the night before the allegations against our stepfather were made both Deanna and her twin "ranaway" to family members in another part of town) and to put her back on as missing. I don't know, maybe that first day when they exposed everything (the twins), mom reported both of them missing and didn't follow up? i'm not really clear on that.
so there's some more info, since i can't seem to post.

Just popped in to see what everyone was 'sleuthin' about :)
Was thinking about Deanna and Missie...
Missie, you need to start a notebook. Start writing everything down you are learning. Right now there is so much coming at you, you can start to organize it. You will get phone #'s, agency names, peoples names, etc. and if you keep everything together in one spot it will be easier. Everytime you talk to LE or CPS or anyone, write down the date/time/and who you spoke with, what they will/will not help you with, and what the results of contact is.
You may want to do like a 5 subject w/sections examples:
Deanna-put in here everything you learn about Deanna, start a timeline.
Family-list family in here and everything you know about them, names, relationships, birthdates, last known whereabouts, etc.
Contacts-write all your phone #'s, agencies, etc.
Just thoughts, this can get overwhelming.
Busy weekend, off to pick up my 1 yr old from NaNa's :)

Great idea! Hi christine:).
Missie, as you make a journal you may want a section to include all contact info for anyone's name who comes up and to leave a place to fill it in for those we don't initially have. Please be sure to write in such a way as to separate facts known from speculations, beliefs, and ideas. You can always flip a theory into the fact section if it turns out it is fact.
Even if Skipper didn't seem to know much, I'm betting also that he knew about Deanna's trauma, needs, and wants at that time. If we can discern what Deanna's state of mind was at the time, and what her plans and thoughts possibly were concerning what may have happened to her, we may have an idea of what she may have tried to do the night she disappeared.
Am I to understand that it is possible, based on your sister's new email that Roy K. may have been a little closer to the situation than we originally thought? I am confused.
I know little about the internet. But, it took a couple of days for me to be able to post for the first time after joining. Please give us her, "hat" that she chose, and perhaps we can PM a mod for some help to get her on to post. I don't know if that will help; but, we can try.
Please tell us, if you haven't previously, what is the age difference to the best of you recollection between Skipper and Deanna?

Hi, I'm Missie's oldest sister, Amy. She told me the people here are really great and very helpful-and she was definitely right! Thank you all for your input and suggestions/ideas so far. I'll try to answer any other questions ya'll have that Missie might not know about.
Here's some background on my situation at the time:
I was 16 when Deanna came up missing. I had gone to visit my Aunt for the summer in VA. I lived with my Grandma; Deanna and her twin lived with our Uncle. While I was gone, Deanna moved in with my Grandma. I'm not sure why, though. Our Uncle is a good person and wouldn't have done anything bad to make her want to leave-perhaps it was bc he didn't have the money to support his family and 2 other kids. I spoke with Deanna on the phone a few times while I was in VA and everything seemed great. She was a very likable person-although you wouldn't want to be on her bad side (she was very tough). She never hinted that she wanted to leave-we talked about doing things together when I returned. Plus the fact that she left everything behind to me says that she did not have any plans to leave. Regarding the car and the 2 guys with her: I don't know who it could have been-I called everyone I knew. So it is possible that it was just speculation that they were my friends.
Deanna was very close to her twin...I think she would've tried to contact her by now. Also, my Grandma has lived in the same house with the same phone number since before I was even born, so Deanna would have been able to contact her very easily...sometimes I wonder if that's the real reason she won't move from that increasingly bad neighborhood.
I was old enough to remember quite a bit, but my memory does fail me about specific events throughout those years...I will try to ask as many questions as I can. Don't worry about being sensitive-it's better to ask a question that might offend, than to not ask -and the answer could've been that one piece we need to find out what happened. But I don't offend easily anyways ;0)
The notebook is a great idea Christine, thank you!
AMytX Let me be the first to welcome you heere. Yes this is a great place.I will be honest when I saw the Pic of your sister yesterday it hit me with a ton of bricks. "On July 22nd 1990 Deanna visited her twin at about 1 a.m at our uncle's home ( where her twin was living). As far as I know, there wasn't an arguement and I don't see what they could have argued about. Her twin said "she left with some boys"Later that day our Grandma called my Mom at our house and said Deanna was missing. She came over and got a picture of Deanna to file a missing persons report."
Missie, I think that the first thing that you should do is contact the police department and see if the report mentioned above was filed. If so get a copy of the orginal report and all supplement reports. Be sure that you get supplement reports too.
You mentioned that Deanna was removed from the missing list because she turned 18. That could be that police departments policy but it is not the norm. I can speak for more than one department in saying that in order to remove someone they have to be recovered. That means a police officer has to actually see the missing person and document it before the person is removed from NCIC(National Crime Information Center).

Missie and Missie's sister, I re-read this in a post I wrote.
I have a feeling that either Deanna's case slipped through the cracks in LE or for reasons we can only speculate at this point, one or more of the adult family members at that time did not put forth the effort to find Deanna that we would expect. It may have been a combination of both.
I was not referring to your grandmother when I wrote this. I was thinking of your step father and possibly your mother. I mean no disrespect towards your mother in any way. When a person is in a state of full blown alcoholism it can be nearly impossible to think clearly, take action in an emergency, or exercise good judgement.
I consider alcoholism to be a disease, not a reflection of character. If someone were extremely ill from chemo along with cancer to the point of needing hospitalization, I would expect that the same thing could happen. Yes, it is up to a person with alcoholism to face their illness and get help; but, if for what ever reason they don't or they cannot quite reach that point it doesn't mean, at least to me, that that person is a bad person. The person could be a good person, with a bad problem.
Roy K. is another story though, to me. I think of him more as a criminal with a criminal mind. He was convicted of a sexual offense in 1989, so I believe he is guilty, and chances are that was not the first and only time he abused someone, according to statistics.

Missie and Amy, I am trying to clarify the date that Deanna disappeared. Was it 7/22/90? Or, was it in the summer or fall of 1989? Or, did something else happen in the summer or fall of 1989, the year before Deanna disappeared again on 7/22/90?
I totally agree with Shadow that as soon as possible you need to get everything you can involving the original report and any supplemental reports. Perhaps you can even track down and contact the original investigating officer. Although it has been 17 years it may be worth a try. I am thinking that there may not have been too many cases like Deanna's back then in Killeen, he may remember additional details not necessarily in the reports.

Did they break laws, o r were they general teenage troublemakers who broke curfew and snuck cigarettes. Is there any chance Deanna was using drugs? Also, Amy mentioned that your grandmother had family in KY. Were they near Cave City? I still think Cave City is a huge clue for us--she may be alive and living there today! Amy--did Deanna talk to you about wanting to come to VA? Maybe she ran away to go see you and ran out of money by KY?

I am not in LE; but, when I first read that it was reported that Deanna's name was taken off the missing persons list because she turned 18, I exclaimed, "What?!" in a loud voice to myself. It just didn't sound right to me. I want to keep this in the forefront because what you learn from LE regarding this could tell us which way to go. However, I think it is also possible that somehow young Deanna slipped through the cracks. You may need to be proactive and follow up with LE if you don't hear from them within a couple of days after contacting them on Monday.
While Deanna's twin and my oldest sister were sharing an apartment they received a collect call from someone claiming to be Deanna. When they accepted the call the person hung up. When Deanna's twin received the phone bill the collect call was placed in Cave City, Kentucky. I think this call was placed in 1992.
ITA that this could be very important. All kinds of scenarios could apply to this. It could even be a dead end--it is possible that an unrelated Deanna called the wrong number collect. But, I am more inclined to think that it is possible that it was Deanna. Is there a way to find out where the relatives in KY lived at that time? Though, there appeared to be little or no contact between that part of the family and all of you perhaps it cannot yet be ruled out that Deanna didn't track them down and ask them for help. Or, she could have been in Cave City, KY and never have had any contact with the family in KY. But, if possible we may want to research this further. What are your thoughts on this?
Amy or Missie, was Skipper about the same age as Deanna?

I'm new to the board and am amazed at what you all do! So, I was trying to look into the brown car. Brown is not a very popular color, so I looked it up. All I can find is Ford and GM used variations of the color in the late 80s and early 90s. The ones I found were not true browns.
You said it could have been 2 men? Could they have been state workers? Or an unmarked police car? I may be way off base, but it's a thought.
Jeep also used brown, but they didn't make a car back then (did they ever make a car). I know Sheriff dept that use the color brown also.
Here is the list of Fords that used the color. Chevy didn't have the names (but I will keep looking) Maybe the type of car might jog a memory
Continental, Cougar, Escort, Lincoln, Mark, Sable, T-Bird, Taurus, Tempo, Topaz, Tracer 87-00

Missie, I've been lurking on your thread but haven't had much more to contribute above what everyone else has said or done, however I am interested and would like to help. I am so sorry that you and your sisters have had to deal with this alone for so long and hopefully now you can maybe find some answers. The people at Websleuths are amazing and I've seen them go above and beyond for total strangers time and time again.
Okay, my possible contribution for the day... I have found a middle name for Skip White, age 31, who lives in Killeen along with a name of a possible wife of girlfriend, age 30. I may also have their address as well as a home phone number. Not sure if I should post on the baord so please advise or PM me and I'll send you the info. I'll be away from my computer for most of the evening but will check when I get back.

I just got off the phone with Deanna's twin. And she said they also went to Rancier Middle School and Manor Middle School. Manor Middle School was the last school she went to before she went missing.

Missie, I think that the first thing that you should do is contact the police department and see if the report mentioned above was filed. If so get a copy of the orginal report and all supplement reports. Be sure that you get supplement reports too.
This should be A #1 on the list right now. (now that we have Deanna's picture ;) )
I have started the emails on classmates...I will update with any reponses.

Please be sure to write in such a way as to separate facts known from speculations, beliefs, and ideas. You can always flip a theory into the fact section if it turns out it is fact.
Oh Lion, yes, this is excellent, IMO, FWIW. This always happens and if you organize it right from the get go it helps so much. You can get so confused with so much info and start to think things you have been told or heard are facts when they were not.

Missie... Do you have any more info on Kenny Rodgers? Approximate age perhaps? I have found two listings for Kenny Rodgers living or having lived in San Antonio; both listings appear to be the same person only the age is listed as 32 in one and 29 in the other. There are two other address listings for him in Fayetteville, NC and Raleigh, NC. I'm not sure which one, TX or NC, is his current address though.

Listed below is a MySpace link for a girl named CoCo, age 30, living in Manor, TX. Manor is close to Austin, and if I read a previous post correctly then Manor, TX is where Manor Middle School is located, which is one of the middle school's that Deanna's sister said they attended, specifically the last one Deanna attended before she went missing.
One thought would be that Deanna's latest social circle at the time she went missing included kids from Manor that she went to school with or knew from the area. I would definitely do a Classmates.com search to include the three high schools in Manor, TX; I'm not sure which one Manor Middle would feed into but I would assume it would be Manor High as the other two seem newer.

KT Can, Manor TX is too far for Deanna to have gone to unless she lived in the city or township of Manor, TX. I think there is also a Manor Middle School per Sadie--no relation to Manor Middle School in Manor, TX.
Good try though. And it still could be her. Coco is not too common of a name, the age is correct, and Manor is in TX and not too far from Killeen.

Okay - look at those two Myspace pages again - the one for Skip White and the one for Coco. They both have 1 friend - TOM. They have to know each other, right? And they have Tom as a friend in common. Or....is Tom on everyone's page?
Okay - what are the chances that Skip and Coco would have the same friend on their myspace? I bet these are Deanna's friends from High School.
Missy - did you email Coco?

Salem - FYI... Tom is everyone's friend on MySpace as he is the guy who created it. When you set up an account Tom is automatically your number one friend until you delete him or move him down on your friends list. The fact that Skip & CoCo have only one friend, that friend being Tom, just means that they set up an account and haven't really done anything with it. Not sure if we'll get reponses back from these two as their last log-in date is a while back.

MissieMt,
Just a friendly piece of advice. You want to be careful duplicating work such as contacting a person. We have had that happen on cases in the past and sometimes the people get very upset. It looks like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. It is important to share in the thread if you are going to make contact with someone and to also check to see if someone alreay has before doing so.
In the post above you KT Can said:

In the little experience I have, as soon as I read your statement, I was like, YES! That makes so much sense, if that makes any sense :)
I am really just doing the CI/PI thing to learn more how to help on these missing and UID cases. Some of the investigative skills of the people on WS/internet knocks my socks off. I am good at the organization and the planning...stumbling a little in the investigation part so I am trying to learn more.....I am told my biggest asset is my passion for this, the other stuff, I can learn!

Thank you Shadow for the good advice. I haven't contacted her yet, so I won't. I just figured that since the profile I would be writing her under would have a picture of Deanna right there she might recognize her and be more likely to read the message. It has been my experience as a Mysoace user that if I don't recognize the person sending me the message I won't even open it. My reasons for this are that there is a lot of hacking and stuff like that on Myspace and I've opened some pretty ex-rated messages by mistake before,ewww.

Missie - Your idea to have a picture of Deanna when sending these messages via MySpace or Classmates is a great idea. I only sent out a few messages on MySpace last night; if you would like me to continue sending messages on MySpace and use the photo you have provided on this forum just let me know, or, if you want to send the messages directly from Deanna's account yourself let me know that as well so we don't duplicate. Either way is fine with me, whatever I can do to help.
I know what you mean about phony messages, phony senders, phishing, etc. on MySpace but I think most people will at least click on my message to read it once they see the title and/or if they view my page and realize I'm not trying to con them into answering surveys or sell them a weight loss product. :D
Here is the message I sent out to both CoCo's (of course I changed it up a bit when I sent it to random people who show up as having attended the same school's as Deanna):
Do you remember Deanna? MISSING from KILLEEN 1990; Ellison High School connection.
Dear CoCo30,
My name is Karen and I volunteer with a group of people that works to find missing children and adults. Please know that this is not a spam message. I am currently working on the case of Deanna Merryfield who went missing from Killeen, TX in July of 1990 and I am just utilizing MySpace as one of my search tools. One of the facts that I have come across is that Deanna had a friend named CoCo at the time she went missing which would put you about the age of her friend now. I just thought I would ask if you knew Deanna Merryfield or of anyone in Killeen, TX back in 1989-1990 who may have known Deanna Merryfield or if you have any information at all that might help us in this case.
Nothing you might possibly remember could be too big or too small. It is thought that Deanna was to start her freshman year at Ellison High School in 1990 which would put her graduation class as 1994, possibly 1995. Deanna attended Fairview, Rancier and Manor Middle School before her disappearance.
My apologies if I have contacted the wrong person. Thank you in advance for your help.
Regards,
Karen

Absolutely Missie, I will post the links to each MySpace page/person I send a message to in one post after I get several of them sent out. This way we'll keep the posts with the MySpace links to a minimum so people won't have such a hard time searching through this thread if they need to see if a particular one has been covered. Once I see who you've sent messages to I'll start back up and go from there. There are A LOT of people on MySpace that have ties to the Killeen area from that time period that we can message. A little bit of new info: When she was last seen by her twin, it was on Dimple St. in Killeen, Texas.
Deanna and her twin sister did hang out with the same people UNTIL Deanna went to live with our Grandma, the her twin didn't talk to the same people as Deanna. Keep in mind, they were 13 and lived approximately 2.5 miles apart. If they wanted to see each other a lot of the time they had to walk, or arrange for transportation from who ever was willing to give them a ride. I decided to get a google map of directions from Dimple St. where Deanna's twin was living, to Alamo St. where Deanna lived:

Missie- Do you or your sisters know if CoCo is the way DeAnna's friend spelled her name? Is it possible it was spelled KoKo? I went ahead and searched for a KoKo on MySpace, and the closest I came (by searching the name KoKo and filtering to 100mi radius of 76543) was this one:
http://www.myspace.com/91599606
Age is listed as 29, but in the About Me section she says she's originally from California.
Also, does DeAnna have any medical conditions that she might get a prescription for? Or any family history of one?
And everyone: Please be careful when entering anybody's SSN anywhere, especially on the internet. Phishers/Scammers are everywhere, and there's a chance that information such as a SSN could fall into the hands of potential indentity theives. I could be wrong, but I think the safest way to search someone's SSN on your own, is to get a free credit report directly from one of the three major credit reporting agencies, or freecreditreport.com (However there might be some problems with obtaining a report from that website, because you have to enter an address). IMO, checking the activity on a SSN is best left to LE to do.

Missy or Amy,
I was just wondering what you found out about getting a copies of the reports.

No problem Christine, this question hasn't been asked yet, and it is a very good one.
She and Grandma stayed up late watching movies on the night of 7-21-90. Grandma was going to let her sleep in until 11AM on 7-22-90 and when she went to wake her, she wasn't there.

I started all of this because I want her in the missing person databases so that people like us here on Websleuths can consider her too when looking at UID's.
I have been working on this angle and didn't not want to bring it up, didn't want to make you feel uncomfy. I am glad you mentioned it and it is a realization for you that we may not find her alive...now I will feel more comfy discussing that part of the research, as I am sure others will. We have some incredible searchers on this forum....if she is out there, listed somewhere as UID, God forbid, someone here will find her.

Thank you for your honesty Christine. I want everyone to know that I am not only looking into finding her alive. She is my sister, and I love her, but I also know the odds are against us. I am grateful for everyone's help. I'm still trying to get a hold of the investigater in charge, and I think in light of the past few days events that I may be able to speak to him personally soon. Perhaps we need to give KPD some time to see how things go and if things progress in a positive way. I think Missie is working on that right now. If things fail to progress over time we can perhaps re-think this and improvise accordingly.

Missie, we may want to take another look at this and keep if filed under things to be researched further. This was a quote of a quote from you.
A little bit of new info: When she was last seen by her twin, it was on Dimple St. in Killeen, Texas.
Deanna and her twin sister did hang out with the same people UNTIL Deanna went to live with our Grandma, the her twin didn't talk to the same people as Deanna. Keep in mind, they were 13 and lived approximately 2.5 miles apart. snip.
I was designing Deanna's poster and copied and pasted a bunch of raw info to create with. I re-read this, and this stood out to me.
Is it possible that Deanna was perhaps walking to or hitching to see your sister and two men in a car picked up Deanna to take her to Bekki's? There was confusion as to who if anyone besides Deanna knew the two men in the brown car. Is it possible that Deanna accepted the ride because they were men(perhaps young guys?) that she and perhaps one other sister knew?
Was she likely to accept rides from strangers via hitching? If not, she may have known whomever she was with that night--and so might one of your sisters. They may have not known that particular car. But, they may have known the men in it--even if they never realised that they did. It may be helpful for Amy and Bekki to make a list of any young men they knew around that time who also drove.
Even if Deanna was likely to accept rides from strangers, that doesn't mean that she had never met those men before or that one of your sisters hadn't met one or both of them before. It may be worth at least checking out. It has been a very long time, so chances of finding those men and proving(if at all they did) that they had anything to do with Deanna's disappearance. But, why not explore every possibility?

To the best of Bekki's recollection(Hello Bekki, I hope you can get on WS with us somehow:)), did the men appear to, "stay in the background". In other words did they not only stay in the car, but sit still and quiet and/or look away while Bekki and Deanna were talking?
I understand that this was long ago, and that Bekki may not have even gotten a good look or paid too much attention at the time. Sorry, if I am asking an impossible question.
Is it possible that Deanna knew the two men prior to that night? It could be a long shot. But, since she wasn't living with any of her sisters at the time it may also be possible that she met the guys over the summer while on a previous, "sneak out" escapade. Do any of you recall Deanna talk about any new guys she met in the days or weeks prior to Deanna's disappearance? Sorry, I know this may be yet another brain wracking question.
I also wonder what petty or not so petty crimes may have been committed by a young man or men around that time in Killeen who also drove a brown car. Another long shot. But, I am throwing out anything that might help, how ever thin it might be.

She was approximatel 5ft 4in. tall
WHy am I contacting Killeen HS students for 1990??
Shouldn't I be working on contacting students from Fairway middle from 1990 and before?
Oh, I hope I am not wasting time and email ops sending to the wrong folks :(
ETA...I just added Fairway Middle to my "communities" on classmates....y'all let me know if I should be emailing there too, or not, or one or both, LOL! And the years, please. TIA

I just got off of the phone with our Uncle. He is the one that Deanna's twin was staying with when Deanna came to see her the night she went missing. Unfortunately, he doesn't remember much about that night so he doesn't remember the car. He did hear from people in the same trailor park that she left in a brown car with two hispanics. Keep in mind that this is nothing more than hear say, as we have not had anyone be able to say they 100% remember seeing the car.
I want to try hard to keep the facts seperate from the rumors and theories so that no one gets confused. I appreciate everyone's efforts and don't want to see you guys using up all of your time on things that haven't even been confirmed true.
OT: Just for the record, we do not have a brother. Our stepdad did have a son from a seperate marriage, but his son was not in the picture when Deanna was around. If someone refers to Jimmy or James, that is our uncle.

I was joking a few threads ago when I said 'where did everyone go', LOL...I was amused that most following this popped in and said HEY! Missie, don't feel guilty if you are not here for periods, it's OK. You have life to live and that is reality. I used to get so down because I would plan to do something online, then a million things come up at home and 'stuff on the computer' (hate to say it that way, but that's what most of us sleuthers families, friends, coworkers who aren't involved in the crime world, think of what we do) it has to be put on the back burner for some of us, INCLUDING YOU.

What do y'all think of that? Willing to advertise for them for free accounts? It's a great investigative tool, we could get them to work w/us? Maybe even give us a section for "missing classmates"? Anyhow, I need to think about how to approach that. I will wait for you all to chime in.

Facts of the case so far:

Hi Missie, I am still here, just have been real busy with family stuff too. I hope you had a great weekend with your son! In your review I did notice something that I had not noticed before...the call from Cave City was from a pay phone? How do you know? Did your sisters hear your Deanna's voice at all, or just the operator? Was your sisters phone number(where the collect call came into) listed or unlisted? Had there been ANY media coverage at all about your sisters disappearance, or would there be anyone else you would ever suspect of creating a hoax call, pretending to be Deanna? If not, we really have to assume that it really WAS her that called. If it was, how did she get to Cave City, KY? Was there ANYONE that Becca and Deanna hung out with that moved right around or soon after the time that Deanna went missing? Maybe a neighbor of your grandmothers? If it truly was Deanna who made that collect call, then the fact that she was alive two yrs after going missing is a good thing---she was still very much alive! Do we know any sleuthers from the Cave City area here at websleuths who can help us out? We need to get posters or something up in that area, to see if anyone knows her!! I do not want to give any false hope, I really don't, but I truly feel that Deanna can and will be found.

Ok--it looks like there is a community message board that is part of the Glasgow Times newspaper. I can join and post a message stating that we are looking for Deanna with a link to this message board or whatever you want me to put there, or if you prefer Missie, you can join and do it?

Missie, Amy, becca----DO you know what hospital Deanna and Becca were born in? I wonder if there is a way you could contact Texas Vital records and ask them if anyone has requested a copy of Deanna's birth certificate? She would need that to get a drivers license etc. As far as the social security...my younger natural sister was issued a soc sec number when she was in foster care, but when she was adopted, her adopted parents did not know that, so at some point in time (this was the early to mid 70's) she was issued a new soc sec number. She did not find out until about 10 yrs ago that she had TWO social sec numbers. Perhaps Deanna did not know she had a social and was issued a new one? As far as Deanna being close to all of you, and your reasoning that if she could, she would contact you...that may not be the case. Perhaps as an adult she is ashamed for what she did as a kid, and is afraid of disrupting all your lives, including her own. Maybe she is just scared because so much time passed. Again this is from personal experience, but I had several chances to meet my natural brother about 5-8 yrs before we finally did meet, but everytime I had the chance I chickened out. I was so scared that he would not like me, or like what I had become. It was so ridiculous, because he was my brother and loved me when we met--he did not care about all those things I was afraid he would not like me for, but I still had been scared. Perhaps she thinks you have all moved on and is scared to contact you. She probably has "hunted" you down over the years to see what has happened to all of you, but has been too scared to contact you. I may be way off base, but it is a thought... Deanna---if you are reading this, please contact your sisters. They really want you found!!!

Hey guys--I am been searching for awhile, and I found this!!! I do not want to get any hopes up, but it sure is interesting, especially considering Deanna had a friend named Kenny RODGERS. I searched under Kentucky marriage records for a Deanna M, and came up with this (under ancestry.com)
----------------------------------------
Kentucky Marriage Index, 1973-1999 (http://www.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=8787&enc=1)
about Deanna M Likens
Name Deanna M LikensGender:Female Race:White Age:17 Estimated birth year:1973 Marriage Date:3 Aug 1990Marital Status:Never married Residence County:Barren Residence County after Married:BarrenState:Kentucky Spouse:Scotty RogersSpouse Age:19 Spouse Race:White Spouse Residence County:Barren Spouse Marital Status:Never married Volume Number:052 Certificate Number:25531 Marriage License County:Barren Volume Year:1990

Now, I know that the age for this Deanna was off, but perhaps they "fudged" the age to add some years so she could legally get married???

WHy am I contacting Killeen HS students for 1990??
Shouldn't I be working on contacting students from Fairway middle from 1990 and before?
Oh, I hope I am not wasting time and email ops sending to the wrong folks :(
ETA...I just added Fairway Middle to my "communities" on classmates....y'all let me know if I should be emailing there too, or not, or one or both, LOL! And the years, please. TIA
It would be a good ideal to contact the middle schools also. Killeen is a VERY transient city because of Fort Hood. Many kids that went to middle school here weren't necessarily here to attend high school. Military orders for family moves go on all the time. Some come back in a few years and re-enroll in schools, other families never return.
Missie...sorry I haven't been of much help lately. But I'm here now. Glad to see the records are on the way. Too much has been going for me. Have you considered having Deanna's story run in the Killeen Daily Herald?

I don't know if anyone asked, but if Deanna did come back to Killeen to try to find you or sisters, do you still have family here she could locate?

I was joking a few threads ago when I said 'where did everyone go', LOL...I was amused that most following this popped in and said HEY! Missie, don't feel guilty if you are not here for periods, it's OK. You have life to live and that is reality. I used to get so down because I would plan to do something online, then a million things come up at home and 'stuff on the computer' (hate to say it that way, but that's what most of us sleuthers families, friends, coworkers who aren't involved in the crime world, think of what we do) it has to be put on the back burner for some of us, INCLUDING YOU.
There are ups and and downs, days we will be posting over each other then weeks when we are waiting for word on something.
Enjoy your birthday party! http://smilies.sofrayt.com/fsc/blow%20out%20candles.gif
I am going to post again on classmates, when they lock from emailing for 24 hours, it's down to the second! I missed my chance yesterday :(
BTW, talking about classmates... I want to compose an email, to classmates...see if they will 'partner' up with some posters...give some free (try for free first, if that doesn't work I'll try a discount ;) ) accounts and we agree to have them in our siggies or something?? What do y'all think of that? Willing to advertise for them for free accounts? It's a great investigative tool, we could get them to work w/us? Maybe even give us a section for "missing classmates"? Anyhow, I need to think about how to approach that. I will wait for you all to chime in.
I think the classmates idea is an excellent one - especially the high traffic they get from alumni. Would be a great way to get the word out about missing persons.

I think I know which one that is and know the area well. Does the street name include "house"?
