A truck my company brokered has gone missing...anyone see him????
FACTS-
Truck load picked up in North GA on 3:00 pm Tuesday and was to deliver in Boston Thursday and he never showed up.
He would be traveling Interstate 85/95 from North GA to Boston!
He is driving a black Peterbuilt 18 Wheeler with XXXXXXXXXXXX(CO NAME REMOVED AT REQUEST OF CHRISTINE2448) on the tractor.
He is pulling a refrigerated trailer on the back.
ANYONE?
Any friend truckers? Get get the word out! Word travels fast via radio/CB/cell
Maybe he was in an accident? Maybe he has broke down?
We cannot get in contact with him.

Here's a link to a message forum much like this one for truckers, this links specifically to their accident page: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/trucking-accident-reports/
Try asking there, directly to the trucker community. They may have their pulse on the industry and hopefully can help you out, or point you in the right direction.

Would he have taken a different route due to weather in the area without checking in with someone? I hope you find him and quickly. I am sure there are many people worried. Good luck!

I know nothing about truckers.
But , would he have a cell phone to call family or friends?
Is there a place where they weigh in or go through toll booths with a special pass--that could determine how far he got or was last seen?
Are they required to stop after so many hours driving to rest? And could be at one of the truck stops.
This is from an European Union prospective--so take it for what it is worth. I reallly know nothing that could be helpful.
Just wanted to lend my support in spirit. Sure hope he is found safe very soon.

This is approx 30 miles SE of I-95.
Morning travelers in Marlton, N.J., will face problems if they use Route 70.
The road is shut down in both directions between Radnor Boulevard and Greenbrooke Drive because a tractor-trailer smashed into a pole Friday morning.

Not sure of exact route....I only know that he should have gone 85 out of GA, then onto 95..not sure where and that would take him into Boston (his exact destination was Methuen, MA)
I do have his name now. His brother has been contacted and has not heard from him. The owner of the tractor and trailer just spoke with Freemont Police and they have put a bulliten out for police to be looking for the truck.

Christine,
Most truckers use some type of fuel card to fill their trucks, comcheck or their is another big one...the name is not coming to me at the moment, point is has anyone check his card to see if when he last use it???
The trucking company I used to work for had tracking devices similar to GPS on all their trucks. Does his truck have anything like that?
I live in the Fremont, IN area ( I don't think there is a FREEMONT). I live in NE Indiana about an 60 from the toll road, MI, OH corner. Does he work for a company here locally?
Let me know if I can help from here. I don't know any LE to help with the Police report.

We have put the word out to our people, and they are putting the word out on the road.
Do you provide fuel cards/credit cards? Either can tell you when/where the last transaction took place. If you provide his cell phone, call all the numbers on the bill you don't recognize.
How long has this guy worked for you, and what kind of call-in policy do you have with your drivers? I was telling a dispatcher about it on the phone, and he asked what the big deal was, it had only been a day. Yeah, whatever.
Warning, the rest of this is about what happened to our friend, it isn't going to be much in the way of moral support, but it might help in the search.
This happened to a very close friend a few years ago. DH called truckstops all along the route, (Flying J, Petro, TA, etc.) and eventually (two weeks) he found the trailer. The police located the truck about two weeks after that. The driver had sold all the outside tires on the duals. She sold all the aluminum wheels and replaced them with steel wheels. She had duct-taped over the name on the doors, replaced it with hers, but left the MC numbers, which is largely what got her caught. She went to jail for a little while, and basically got a slap on the wrist when it was all said and done. She refused to admit she did anything wrong, and tried to convince everyone the owner gave her permission, etc. etc.
I'm hoping things resolve themselves very soon, and everything comes out well.
Good luck, and if I can do anything, let me know.

No injuries reported.
The Turnpike Authority said a tractor trailer overturned just before 2:30 p.m. Officials said a truck was headed north and rolled into the southbound lanes. Another car was involved in the accident.

I thought of this wreck when I first read this thread but there were no injuries in this accident. I'm sure that driver has made contact with someone since he was probably stuck with no transportation.

Well, you being the broker of the load is a different ball game than you being the owner of the truck :( Other than getting the word out, I don't know what else you can do. Can you disclose what the freight is? If it's something like Bluebell ice cream, I can see the driver running away with it, but we know it isn't, because that comes from TX :p, not GA.
Seriously, though, who owns the truck? If the company owns it, you better believe they are going to leave no stone unturned trying to get it back. If its an owner/operator, I don't know much that can be done.
Good Luck

The guy is a driver for a company, the company is XXXXXXXXX...they own the equipt.
The load is tray pack chicken, it's packs of chicken that you see at the grocery store in the foam trays, like wings, breasts, drums, etc.
I believe it's a 53 ft reefer.
I guess I shoulda been more clear...I was thinking truck driver, our driver, he is driving for us, LOL. But he is hauling our load. Would it be possible to get some helicopters up from various police jurisdictions along the route this weekend to take a look in case he went off the road? It's possible he had an accident (I'm thinking of the mountainous areas of NC and VA, specifically) and hasn't been found, but if it is interstate all the way, which it is, someone would have certainly seen him go off the road in such a big truck, and as busy as Interstate 95 is.
Kudos to all of you making calls and helping out. This is just a wonderful group of people here. Christine, we will be praying for Wayne.

I called 411, and the operator could not find any listing for a Marlton PD or fire dept. So, I called the state police. I nicely explained that I was looking for a missing person driving from GA to Boston and wanted to know how to find more info on truck accidents in NJ, specifically in Marlton. He cut me off and robotically stated that they don't give any info out on any police matter. I could be anyone he said. I said unfortunately that deters people who are genuine from learning the whereabouts of friends and family members, thanked him and said good bye. Geesh, we need a different system. I understand his point, but there must be another, better way out there.
Any other ideas, anyone?

I think we should just start with calling the truck stops. Don't know weather contacting Fremont police will do any good either other than to let them know what we are doing. I posted a list of all the truck stops along the 85 and 95 interstates. I will have to look all the phone numbers up but have to go out for a bit first. If someone wants to start that would be great also!

I misunderstood from the beginning. I thought you were saying this guy had taken off with your truck and trailer, my bad. It would be helpful to have the info of the last place this guy fueled, to narrow down the search area. I told my guys to be on the lookout, and spread the word. I really feel it is unlikely he had a wreck and no one noticed, but it is possible something happened while he was in a truckstop or rest area, and a truck sitting for a few days is not going to raise any eyebrows. I can't think of anything else to be done that isn't already being done.

Thanks Lanie, I really appreciate all of your help. Getting the word out I think is the best thing we can do.
Tomorrow I can get more info, ask about the fuel stuff and all of that. I am 'armed' with more questions now after 'talking' with you and everyone working on this.
I pray he is OK, not hurt somewhere.
I don't ever want to see the bad but I know there is a chance this could be stolen, I have not talked to the owner personally..but it seems like they are worried by what I am told and someone filed a missing persons report. Makes me lean more towards him not running off with the load/equipt.

Makes me lean more towards him not running off with the load/equipt.[/quote]
Let us know. I will check here first tomorrow, Indy time 330pm.

One asked me to email info and she would foreward it so its being sent out to many as we speak. Another gave me infor on Open Road a radio station for truckers so I will be calling them tomorrow as well.

You are somethin'! Thanks for all of this. I so wanted to be here helping, not stuck at work this evening. I talked to animal several times via tele and she was telling me what was going on. We were on the tele when my boss called and gave me the name...Animal said "Christine, uh, what's the guys name?"...I paused, "you know, I really don't know, I was just thinking about the truck". Isn't that terrible!!!!
Anyhow. I am not sure there is much more to do this evening then pray he is OK, I am going to read up on which stops if any still need called..(I'll touch base with Lion, she's prolly still on the phone!) And call, spread the word, what is said in the am at 8 when I get to work and ask more questions.
If nothing new and he is still MIA in the morning,I may tell the boss to let me call and 'interview' or have Lion or Shadow do it, LOL, the owner. Meanwhile, if y'all think of more things to ask, post 'em.
Lanie, BTW, I am in accounting in our office, and my bosses own several businesses and I do the accounting for those also, I am not in dispatch, and although I get some of it...I didn't think of fuel cards and such...your input has been so helpful, thanks again!

Anyone able to find out about any of the accidents?
I wonder if I should also work on that? You'd think if it were an accident the owner of truck would be contacted..right. Unless it's an undiscovered accident.

Thanks Petra, great questions..things I didn't know to ask when I had the bosses there. I will ask these tomorrow, if needed. I am hoping I get to work and he is found!

Ok been here done this before. Don't want to be negative but am going to be. I have nine years experience as safety director for a very large trukcing company and was in freight sales. Call the insurance carrier for Inidana Refrigerated if you do not have it I have attached it. Also this company does not have a great driver safety record so unfortunately that tend to mean the driver s are a little careless in inspection ans such. Check the bill of lading and the weight and make sure he was not over weight. If he was call the state police an make sure he has not been put out of service. Also hate to say but where does Mr. Driver reside? If it along this corridor check his home. Some drivers have no common courtesy and could care less if the load gets there on time or not. Sorry I know I am waaaay negative but I have been burned by this. Meaning I have spent hours in my own personal vehicle looking for a driver who I thought was hurt or injured only to find out he was out screwing around and just did not care. I know that the company you brokered the load from is concerned and says ohh noooo nit Wayne he would never do that. Well what are they are going to do tell you he's a crappy employee and oops we made a mistake in hiring him. Also double check that they did not double-broker this load out to someone else. It happens. I am attaching the link for Indiana Refrigerated safety info.. Oh and I know I am going to get flack for this but I will bet my bottom dollar that something is off and the company knows it. Like I said been there have he t-shirt and several thousand miles on my car to prove it..

You are probably right...I just don't think that way. And I have seen things like this happen, but extremely rare w/the company I work for, thank goodness. But, I can certianly understand that this happens.
I don't think you are being negative, I think it's a reality check. Just reality. This is probably the most likely of all things mentioned to have happened.
Hopefully, whatever happened we'll know soon enough.
Thanks for doing that research.
I just discovered on Truckstop.com that we can search stuff like that, but wasnt' sure what I was looking for, thanks a heap for taking the time.
I guess I'd rather the guy be messing around than hurt, etc.
Here's a question for you all that are more experienced in the trucking industry than I, when do you worry? Maybe I alerted on this too soon?
I assumed if someone got a missing report it wasn't just him goofing off. OH, I don't know!
I am on a dag gum hunt now, I want to find this guy and this tractor and trailer! LOL.

If I went missing I would hope that this many people started looking as quickly as this...
It would be better to find that he is fluffing off and you all searched than to find he is in danger and no one did anything.
That all being said I think the missing report would HAVE to be filed for company liability reasons ...
I don't know what the weather has been like in those areas either..
But its worth considering .... Or he got sick and stopped at some hotel till he feels better...
I am not sure in the trucking industry how common being a day late is..

He checked in last after he was loaded on Tuesday at 3...he checked in and told his boss he was at one place or the boss says that, howver he talked to our guys and said he was somewhere, I didnt' post because I only wanted to post fact, and FACT is he was last heard from Tuesday at 3, I believe, LOL. He is delivering to a receiving plant for grocery stores I believe, he for sure is not there. I am home now and dont' have anyone to confirm until I talk to boss tomorrow (we usually do not talk over the weekend, but I will call him and ask all the questions that have been brought up and see if he is OK with me speaking w/the owner.)

Time to report your freight stolen. I know it sounds harsh but I guarantee with a threat of legal action to his company. You just mention the words cargo claim (especially with the price of chicken loads) and I promise you will get an immediate response. This is your companies frieght and they lost it simple as that. It is their responsibilty to find it and the driver. I hate to be harsh as I said before but you should be getting updates from these people constantly on the status of your shipment.

I agree...again, I come in on a different side, the missing. I so understand your point. That's what my bosses do. I am just a girl in accounting (well, if you knew me much more than that, LOL) that knows there is a missing truck and a missing man...question for ya crash, would it be customary as amra said about the police report, the missing report? The company does that automatically because of the claim stuff? If so, that busts my bubble a bit.
Yes, the load is worth some $$'s. I'm sure my bosses know what to do. The company has been in business since the early 50's IIRC and I know since I have been there a claim or 2 has come across my desk to be paid.
I just wonder how this will turn out. What the story is.
Thanks for your input, it's so appreciated.

Yes maam they reported him missing or possible truck stolen because one that is the only way the police are going to issue a BOLO for him and second if they filed a missing person report instead of criminal report it may help them lessen their liability claim overall if the freight is indeed stolen. I am so glad I am no longer in this business I spent way too many long nights worried about drivers in snow, tornados you name it. I do not know if this driver normally has cell phone or not, we brokered the load, he is hauling OUR load, but it is not our tractor/trailer. My company did not give him any comchecks (we use EFS, same thing).
As for fuel card. Not sure. I am going through my boss who is in communications with the owner of the equipment. Boss says they are VERY concerned. Next time I talk with boss I will mention all these ideas, I would think this has been checked, but never hurts to be sure!
The company is called XXXXXXXXXX.
No GPS.

I talked with on eof my trucker friends CHris.....he said every company gives a fuel card to their drivers.....the company needs to track his card and see where it was last used and when.....iif they havent already done so......this will give us an idea of where he was last seen atleast......thats about it that i have will try to find out more asap!

I have a question. Why isn't his family searching frantically...or his own boss?! Does anyone else seem to think this is odd? I would think they would be begging for help to find this guy and yet it appears they aren't. Is there a reason they aren't worried about him?
I do like the idea of calling the LE about your load being missing. It would make sense for your company to be interested and to file such a report. Being you are not family or his employer, it is all you have an actual interest in. (Not to say that your being worried isn't thoughtful and caring tho.)

No one has said that they are not searching.. We do not know what the family or employer are doing on their own.
Furthermore, reading here and having an interest in crime and missing cases has taught us all what to do when someone goes missing ....
Someone not familiar with that may feel that to call the police and file a report is simply what you do and not even have a clue as to what else to do.
Many people think that in such a situation you call the police and they know what to do and that is that...
Much like many people believe you send your child to school and they are the experts and know what to do.... Or like many believe every word their Dr says without doing their own research.

Thanks Animal for updating everyone on why no news. I am not in contact (as much as I'd like to be) with the actual owners. I am not sure it's such a good idea.
Anyhow, no news, I had forgotten that today was memorial for bosses brother who just past and I believe his family was in town...I am sure if the guy showed up and he heard he would have buzzed me.
I believe we did everything we could and that can be expected to this point. We got the word out. Until we are 100% sure he is really missing I think everyone's efforts deserve applause!
If he ends up really being missing, then we can find advocates in that area to help if family needs and move on with an investigation.
I will probably not know anything until monday.
Meanwhile, if anyone hears anything.
There are a lot of people that have heard about this thanks to you all!

Glad you were finally able to post. Sounds like you have had a couple of exhusting days. hope it gets better and please let us know if you need anything!
With 3 truckers in my family, I too have heard some stories about various scenarios. One driver was dead in his cab for a couple days, parked at a truck stop, and no one paid any attention to the truck, as expected. Another story I recall is that a driver's family was looking for him and called truck stops, etc. He was finally found dead in his cab at one of the truck stops that had been notified to look for him.
Also, when I worked at a local hospital we had a semi parked in one of the lots because the driver became ill. He was an owner-operator, so within a couple days someone came to drive the truck out of the lot. The driver had been admitted to the hospital.
Another story I heard was that a disgruntled driver took the company truck to his home and just left it there. The company had to go and get it. He no longer worked for that company.
I do hope this man is found safe somewhere. That said, if he did do something criminal with the load, I hope he is prosecuted. Fair is fair.
My mother in law was missing for a week and a half in Nov 04 (she drove truck also) and it was very hard locating her. She was the one they found dead in her truck. No one noticed that her truck hadn't moved in a week. It had been running for that long (she had just re-fuelled i guess). Needless to say the entire cab of the truck was destroyed. She had a heart attack right after she woke up in the morning. The same thing happened to her husband on the road a year earlier (although she was with him and so he was not missing). I believe the state patrol was the most useful resource in finding her along with cell phone records to track recent activity (same as credit cards).

My mother in law was missing for a week and a half in Nov 04 (she drove truck also) and it was very hard locating her. She was the one they found dead in her truck. So sorry your mother in law wasn't found sooner.
God bless you and your family.

Have you maybe tried to contact the family? I know you have been busy, but maybe that could be your way of getting some more info? I have been searching the name for anything and am not coming up with anything. My dad said is a case of an accident the owner of the truck would be notified within 24 hours. So you think that they would know that by now at least. How old is he? This is just so sad with Fathers Day today, knowing he probaly has children. If there is anything I can do just holler. I will be her for 2 more hours than back at 8. No more personal days...lol

No, because I work for the company that the load is missing, I don't know that I should get any more involved w/o permission from boss as far as talking to people for co or family...but that doesn't stop one of you from callin ;).
Being in accounting I talk a lot to the people where the product ships out, one of our main contacts for pick ups an deliveries would know, I thought I could talk to him, so I tried, no answer at reg # that I call. The guys (bosses and dispatchers) prolly have a # they call nights/weekends, I wouldn't be privy to that. Going to call one of our dispatchers, see if I can talk him into see if he can find out anything.

I think you guys are doing brilliant work on this case. I didn't mean to imply you weren't! You all are great! I agree getting the word out early on is so important and you have done this in record time. I applaud the efforts!! Kudos!
I was just curious as to why his boss/company/family...with knowing you guys are actively pursuing his whereabouts aren't keeping Chris updated with info such as the fuel card, the pikepasses, etc. I found that part strange. When people work together...things get done and they don't seem to be forthcoming with info on this fella or his truck, IMO. I don't get that.

Hiya SS :)
I kinda took this on, from my companies side, and because the missing anything is of great interest to me. When I heard missing truck I thought, ohhhhh, I can post this on WS, get the word out, we'll find it!
I am sad that I can't talk to boss because he would ask all of our questions to the other guys for us, as he idd on Friday afternoon and evening, he actually called me 2 times, after 5, LOL, never has he done that, ever since I have worked there.
The company is XXXXXXXXXX.
There will most likely be a LARGE claim on this load, I'm not sure I should be talking to the people that we may be fighting about this if it IS stolen.
BUT, that doesn't stop you all ;) Right?
I mean one call, may say he is found.
I am going to PM my phone # to those in this thread that do not have it, I have to get out of my office and to the children....we can discuss via phone if anyone needs to...didn't mean to disappear yesterday and leave ya'll hangin. That won't happen again.
Thanks again everyone!

I believe it is packaged chickens in a reefer truck. The kind of fryers you see in your grocer's meat market prepackaged. It would be worth a ton of $$$. There is a definite time limit on loads such as those, too. Very odd.

Like someone else said...how does a big truck go missing without anyone seeing it somewhere. I wonder if he was highjacked by some men that had a refrigerated truck just waiting to take over that load of prepackaged chicken? Things like that do happen. Someone could divide that load up with they got to where ever and sell it to people all over the place. If that happened I hope they didn't hurt the driver. It is just odd tht the truck hasn't been spotted though. I guess if the crooks were professional enough they could have a big empty building to put the truck in for now. Scary to even think that though. In this day and age though I think half of the world is made up of crooks and other kind of monsters.
I hope your driver is found soon and that he is unharmed.
Christine - let us know as soon as you hear something. This is all too strange. WhoTF would want to hijack a truck filled with chicken? Although maybe it wasn't the chicken they wanted as much as the truck. Have the authorities been notified? If he was due in last Thursday and you still haven't heard anything, I would think this would have become a newsworthy event by now - they say the first 48 hours is the best time frame in which to solve a crime, and it looks like that deadline has passed.
Seems to me with all the terrorist activity going on in the world the authorities would want to know of any and all missing trucks as soon as possible.

I know a trucker who once( a long time ago) was given the wrong trailer to pick up and haul (there were 2 trailers, shipper made a mistake) Then when he arrived, he dropped trailer and got signed off, but yard guy wrote down wrong truck #. No log of my friend, or his truck or his trailer! So when my friend was on his way back home, he was off duty, so he slept and went a few places and basically had fun for a couple of days. All the while, his company and family were driving highways, making reports, calling hospitals, only to find out, he was fine, and everyone else were the ones that were lost or confused! Strange things happen, I thought he was wrecked or dead, it was the most terrifying thing I ever experienced!

We own a business and we ship very large equipment to different parts of the country. I don't know all the details, because hubby usually deals with the drivers (if they own their own truck), or the dispatcher (if the driver works for someone), but I can tell you we've had a couple disappear on us. One time, we couldn't find a guy for four days, and it turns out, he took a two-state detour to go visit his girlfriend.
Well, this is a problem because the permits are expensive, and I believe the driver has to go a specific route. And on this particular job, we were being fined $10,000 per day that this load was late. It was a mess. My hubby about had a fit over this.
And when asked why he did this...he just shrugged and said he hadn't seen her in a long time. lol Ahhhh...love, isn't it great? :)
Not to say that this is what's going on with your driver...

We know nothing, absolutely no reason given.. The guy picked up load on Tuesday, disappeared, load was scheduled to deliver on Thursday, on Sunday morning the guy showed up in MA w/load and they accepted it! The guy disappeared again...we are no longer in contact with the other company now that the load has been delivered and everything accounted for.
Have no idea what happened. Crazy isn't it.
Even crazier, on Friday another truck/driver disappeared, this time, showed up in a state he shouldn't have been, 1/3 of load missing and the man threatening suicide, police there, crazy stuff! At first we thought it was this first truck, then we find out it's another load.
I have been w/this company for 5 yrs and this is the first incidents I have ever experienced like this, however, learning it is not uncommon.
