:furious: This gets to me more than anything! She filed the protective order, but did not appear for a court hearing so it was dismissed and I certainly am not blaming her at all. (I wonder if she was too afraid or perhaps he prevented her from going.) Not that I believe Protective/Restraining Orders are worth the paper they are printed on...because I don't...but I do think the orders should be put in place without the victim being the party asking for them (LE should become responsible to lessen the impact of retalliation on the victims) and when LE becomes aware there is the possibility of violence...there MUST be a way to protect these women!!
This is so predictable and senseless. The children are now left without their parents and have a lifetime of sorrow to deal with. How horrible for them!
There HAS to be a more effective way to deal with this issue!! :furious: :furious: :furious:
Sheriff's deputies say when Shelly Freeman pulled up with her two children, Kenneth ordered the kids inside. Deputies say Kenneth shot Shelly in the head, and then killed himself.

OMG! This is so tragic! I read stuff like this and am so thankful that although I went through a divorce, I never felt scared of my ex.

One of my best friends was brutally murdered after she filed for a divorce and got a restraining order. It is more like a death warrant for abused women, in my opinion!!!!

Unfortunately, in a case where the stalker is determined to kill the other person no matter what, having that piece of paper won't deter them. Sometimes its enough to get their attention, sometimes it makes them more angry and sometimes no matter what, the outcome is inevitable.

We should have laws in place to lock them up to prevent this, but we don't. That piece of paper has caused so many to 'snap' and become homicidal, IMO. The time to act is before he is served in some way. If the police are required to file the order leaving out the spouse...maybe the rage would be towards the police instead of the spouse. Then again, you are right about the stalker types...it wouldn't stop a person who was hellbent on murdering their ex. There has to be a way to go after them before they commit such an act tho!

We don't even have enough room in our jails to lock up the ones who actually come close to killing them, much less the ones who violate the orders by even being in the vicinity of the victim. Moreover, while the police must arrest someone they suspect of assault, the victim must testify against that person or there is no case.
