Thank you, Mods, for this forum!!! :woohoo: While the reasons for needing it are tragic (innocent victims), it sure will make it easier to follow the investigation and case if it goes to trial being able to have all these separate threads.

Is there any way that you Mods can change the name of a thread? I started the "Photo and Link Thread" (http://websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53996) before Stiles was identified and I hate to read the title "Police Look For Girl, Man in Sex Tape" as part of the title now that she's been found safe and he's been ID'd and apprehended. I was unable to change the title (as original thread starter) and was hoping that maybe it could still be done, but with the Mods help?? TIA if it can be done.

What do you all think about having a trial when the crime has been caught on videotape? I understand the need for a judicial system, but when there is evidence of a crime ON TAPE, then why do we even bother with a trial? Get the scumbag a lawyer and let them hash it out privately with the DA and a judge what the sentence will be. We know he's guilty - just punish him!!

It's like a kid caught with their hand in the cookie jar, you don't examine all the evidence and ask them details about it - you take the cookie away (his freedom in this case) and you ground them (put him behind bars for the rest of his life because he's not going to get better). Unlike a kid with a cookie, this type of crime cannot be tolerated and the punishment must be severe. Too much debate and cost with the DP, so let's just make it quick and lock him up and throw away the key. Seems so simple, doesn't it? Darn them having any "rights", anyway!!!! :furious:

Also curious as to IF there is a trial, would the videotape be shown to the jury as evidence? I hope nobody ever has to watch it again, but I was wondering about it because you hear of so many cases where specific evidence is thrown out and I never understood the reasonings behind not being able to show evidence.

I agree with you SieSie, a trial for CAS is totally unnecessary. Why waste the taxpayers money?

I think he'll plead guilty & just face sentencing. If he doesn't & his lawyer doesn't just suggest it he is totally whacked out. What would his defense be? Insanity???? By the time they show the jurors the tape they'd probably demand the death sentence!!!!! Even if its not on the table.

Thanks for the reply, cheko - maybe it's time the laws were updated to reflect technology. Nowadays with evidence in the way of VHS, DVD and the internet, if it's obvious it's the perpetrator of a heinous crime like this, we should do away with a trial and just let them have a lawyer to hash out the sentence with a prosecuting attorney and let a judge decide.

I know you'd have to worry about video editing and stuff, but if it's proven to be an accurate video/dvd by experts who can test for that stuff, then we should just keep it simple and lock the b@$t@rds up! MOO. :D

Come on. You know the answer to that.

I, for one, want a trial..because without the trial phase we would be unlikely to ever get the full story here and how all the players, known and currently unknown, are involved.

There is more to this then just CAS..and those people need to pay for whatever their involvement was in these horrible crimes. Remember there is more then 1 vic and more then just 1 tape (because the tape we know of is a copy) involved and so there are many loose ends to tie up before this case is over.

Allegedly defense is already planning a strategy of "authenticity of the tape". *per FOX this morning*

Is it just me or does CAS just look like he's given up? Look at his mug shot. The downcast eyes. They look very guilty. Like he's just finally realized what he has done.

Then if you look at the photo of him in court this morning (on CNN's site), he stands there, head down, as if he's depressed/given up.

Maybe that body language is the reason why they have him on suicide watch?

I just heard on Fox News that more victims will be either named or are being sought from the video tape.

Did anyone else hear that?
I'm sure he has a long list of victims. If he thought he got away with 2 victims there are many many more.

I figured there would be more. :( I hope they string this POS up and put him away forever.

It will be some time, months, before the prosecution has to turn it over to the defense team, allow them to watch it. Then he will change his tune, just like Michael Devlin's attorneys changed their's immediately after seeing his tapes. :furious:

The more I was seeing the name Pahrump I was reminded of a case a ways back. A somewhat celeb type radio guy that lived there was accused for having sexually molested a boy. The guy was never charged I don't believe so I wouldn't want to say the name. What's up in Pahrump? Isn't this supposed to be a remote place for astral beings to land and stuff? I'm not making light of it at all. I've heard this.

From the Sheriffs report in their local paper, God help the astral beings that land there. They will be subject too crimes that begin and end with meth...burglary, sexual assault, forgery, other drugs, and domestic violence...sounds like a nice little town to live in.

Honestly Filly, I thught too Pahrump was a very small town that it's biggest claim to fame was it's proximity to the Chicken Ranch...just goes to show you once meth infiltrates even the small towns life gets turned upside down.

Father arrested for sexually assaulting own step-son (http://www.kvbc.com/Global/story.asp?S=8650397&nav=15MV)
KVBC - Las Vegas,NV,USA

It's a case that sounds too familiar here in Las Vegas: A man videotaping himself molesting children. 44-year-old Michael Maroney is in jail accused of assaulting his own step-son and maybe other children in the neighborhood.

You cant help but make the connection between Maroney and Chester Stiles. It's been almost a year since that video turned up of Chester Stiles allegedly molesting a young girl. Now, we have three new tapes, all found by Maroney's wife, one of them involving his own 9-year-old stepson.

"He had had counseling. There hadn't been an incident for twenty years," Maroney's wife, who doesn't wish to be identified, said. She knew he was a convicted sex offender. She says he was very open about it, telling people he had made a mistake and learned from it.

"He had his whole family, had me, had everyone snowed," she explained. Maroney's wife says she was cleaning out her pantry Tuesday, when she found three unlabeled videotapes.
