Now how did this child get access to a rifle with bullets so that he could take aim and shoot? And what was going on that he grabbed a knife and attacked? Help me here...

Living in redneckville as I do - kids and guns and knives are a daily occurance around these parts (big hunting community) but aggression and accidents aren't. I'm surprised the kid missed. He is 8 and should have had better aim. (And better sense than to shoot at a human being, or without permission... etc.)

However - this boy has some serious aggression issues.

Can you imagine being the one to decide what to do about this situation? I think serious psychotherapy and some kind of drugs and intense supervision. Certainly no more guns or knives!

By the way, the kids around me with guns are MUCH safer and more disciplined than the kids running around clueless and finding the guns under someone's mattress.

This kid - using the butt of the gun to knock out glass - that's learned behavior. Movies? Parents? Blind luck? No matter what - it's freaky.

If he's doing this at 8, what's he going to be like at 16? A very scary situation, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night in the same house as this child!

What stunned me was that he was released to his mother's custody. And how peacefully is she sleeping, I wonder???

I hope she's not sleeping. I hope she's signing the paperwork to have him Baker Acted. The police could have done that.

Im just here to say my nephew showed violent tendancies at age 5 and is totally out of control and he is 13. He as attacked his mother and Grandfather and they continue to ignore it. He needs help. I feel sorry for this family.

It said he ran towards them with a knife while laughing? Laughing during anger, he's a little psychopath. Was he originally living with the mother, as the article said caretaker. He needs a very good psychologist.

If he is doing this at 8 someone needs to question what the hell type of homelife he has.

A guy I am seeing has an 8 year old that cut up his couch with a knife in anger. His homelife appears normal - just some anger issues.

This was beyond anger issues, first to shoot then go after them with a knife?!?!? This was a personal thing, and I do believe there is such a thing as "Natural Born Killers"..this may be one of them. But I hope his family situation is being investigated.

I hope this kid doesn't actually live in the home with other kids. If not, the other child/children are in horrible danger and CPS should intervene. I imagine this boy is already under psychiatric care and on medications, but this whole story just shows how hard it is for people to get help for kids. The kid should have been taken to a mental facility for observation, be living in one with a school, and not just be charged with a juvenile crime and then released to the caretaker mom. I feel bad for the mom but this sort of thing is just awful for the other child who got shot at and I can only imagine how this little terror behaves at school.
