A CO. Roscommon man living in Yonkers has not been seen since Friday, November 30 when he was socializing with friends in a Midtown Manhattan bar.

Tony Devine, 29, was last seen in the Galway Hooker bar on 36th Street between Fifth and Madison Avenues. Andy O’Connor, a co-worker and close friend of Devine, left him in the bar about 10:30 p.m. on Friday.

Minutes before that Devine called his girlfriend but they got cut off. He tried to call her again at approximately 11:30 p.m. but her phone was switched off. He didn’t leave a message. That was the last call made on Devine’s cell phone.

On Saturday morning about 9 a.m., Devine’s brother Martin called Tony’s cell phone to invite him for breakfast, something the brothers often did. The phone was off.

He didn’t take any notice until Sunday when he tried again. After speaking with O’Connor, Martin got slightly worried and called the police.

The only identification Devine had was his Bank of America card. The card has not been used since the middle of November.

Tony Devine, 29, a local carpenter, spent the evening Nov. 30 with friends, first at the Galway Hooker bar and then at Slattery's Bar, both on 36th Street in Manhattan, said his brother, Martin Devine.

The brothers, who immigrated to the United States from Ireland in 2000 and 2001, attracted the attention of the local Irish community, said Corinna Brouder, a local Irish-American. She said a group decided to get together last night and go back to the bar where Tony Devine last was seen to post and pass out posters as well as talk with people who may provide clues to the man's whereabouts.

Brouder said last night that they were getting good information, including that someone saw an argument outside of Slattery's the night Tony Devine disappeared.

"It's like he just vanished," said Martin Devine. "But we've put up a poster in every bar, every police station, and hopefully someone will know something."

Parts of Manhattan and Yonkers are not the best of areas at times. With Devine having just immigrated here from Ireland around 2000, he would have a thick accent still. A lot of culprits will prey on people who aren't local or obviously not from the area. Even though he lived in NY, someone might not have known that and foul play could have occurred. If he only had a check and a credit card on him, and that wasn't taken..? Did he have any form of id? He would have to if he was out drinking at a bar. Maybe he had got cash out from an atm and someone robbed him..

Family and friends of a missing Yonkers carpenter are offering a $50,000 reward for information they hope will bring him home safe and sound.

Tony Devine, 29, was out with friends in Manhattan the night of Nov. 30 and, after splitting from the group, hasn't been heard from since. He was first at the Galway Hooker bar and then at Slattery's Bar, both on 36th Street.

Tony, a native of County Roscommon in Ireland, worked in Manhattan as a carpenter and was often in the city on weekends, so family and friends said it was unlikely he became lost. They also said it would be completely out of character for the gregarious young man to lose contact with them.

I am fairly local to where this young fellow went missing. I only recently learned about it when having dinner at a different Irish pub. I decided to post the information on my blog as many Hell's Kitchen-ites read my blog and well, you never know. The family needs all the exposure it can get.

BTW: My blog is not probably not suitable for everyone, so if you are easily offended, please don't read it.

Thanks

N8tive--I really like your blog! I'm in HK too.

The area where the guy disappeared from isn't bad at all. A little quiet at night, maybe, but fine.

I have friends who live on 35th off of Fifth and they have complained more than once about some shady activity over there. Yes it is quiet, but there is a certain element at times. My friends are presently out of the country, but will return by weeks end. I am going to speak with them to refresh my memory regarding why they have had to call 911 in the past.

Cheers

I wonder if they know about the NY Surveillance Project? It lists all the surveillance cameras in the city. There are a lot near where he disappeared.

A BODY discovered in the Hudson River on Thursday, February 7, is believed to be that of missing Roscommon native Tony Devine.

Although family of Devine, who went missing on November 30 last year, are waiting for confirmation from a DNA test carried out by the New York Medical Examiner’s office, possessions found on the body, as well as clothes and jewelry that Devine was wearing at the time of his disappearance, indicate that it is likely to be the 29-year old Yonkers resident.

and

On Thursday an 18-year-old man was fishing near 168 Street and Riverside Drive, near the George Washington Bridge, when he discovered the body washed up near a pile of rocks in the Hudson River.

A police report state that the body found was a young white male wearing a white striped shirt, jeans and brown boots — all clothes matching the description of the clothing Devine was wearing the night of his disappearance.

Police confirmed on Tuesday that an autopsy on the body ruled out foul play. It may take up to eight weeks for DNA results to come back.

If at that time it is verified the body is that of the missing man, Devine will be waked in Yonkers before being flown home to be buried near his family in Tulsk, Co. Roscommon.
