Authorities today searched a portion of the Missouri River at Sugar Creek after locating a submerged vehicle.

The river’s temperature, near freezing, prevented investigators from getting a diver to the car. Authorities said they would try again Friday, when more divers would be available.

A search by Independence police for a man missing since Saturday led authorities to an area near La Benite Park off Missouri 291.

Aaron E. Collins, 35, called his girlfriend Saturday and said he had just driven into the Missouri River. He did not say where. He left his home in a navy-blue 1983 Cadillac Fleetwood.

It was unknown if the vehicle police spotted today resembled a Cadillac.

INDEPENDENCE | Body found in Missouri River

Authorities Monday pulled a car from the Missouri River and found a body inside.

Investigators from the Independence Police Department and the Jackson County medical examiner’s office were trying to determine whether the body was that of Aaron E. Collins, who was reported missing last week.
Police said Collins had called his girlfriend from his cell phone on Jan. 5 and told her that he was driving his car into the Missouri River. Police said the car pulled from the river matched a 1983 Cadillac that Collins reportedly was driving when last seen.

I couldn't find an article that confirmed the identification, but the Social Security Death Index shows a reported death for 35 year old Aaron E. Collins from Missouri. The date of death is reported as January 14, 2008.
