I was thinking the kitchen faced toward the road based on the pic of the front of house.
That tiny window to the right, is what I thought would be the kitchen??
The two windows to the left of the pic, look like bedroom windows. IMO

The discovery of the shoe, well it's a little suspicious don't ya think? Mark Furhman was in the neighborhood. (I'm seeking cover now!) (PS, it's a joke except for the fact some defense attorney may try to use the idea.) (My husband's in law enforcement so I can make the joke.)

From the layout I've seen of the house, is the kitchen window in the back of the house? They usually are, old tradition, so moms can keep an eye on their kids playing in the backyard. Well, that dug up area would be in full view!
Was it ever determined if he stashed her in the woods and moved her later to the back yard?

I agree, and in this photo the window is left (in photo) of the garage and probably where the entry is to the garage.

Okay, I would like to retract my statement earlier.
From the front of the house, I would think the the two windows to the left are the living room, and the one small window to the right is the kitchen.
I know it's a 5 room house. 2 bedrooms, 1 kitchen, and 1 living room.
So where is the washer and dryer located at? In the Garage?? There is no basement. Maybe, it's in a hallway to the garage??

I think the front windows on the house were of the bedrooms. As you walk in, the living room was straight ahead with the windows facing the back yard and a door leading out. The washer/dryer may have been in the kitchen area along the wall connecting to the garage.

This is J'ville. They are at sea level. From my experience living there - I never saw one house with a basement. This is a small house - where is there room for a laundry room?

We both agreed there was no basement. I posted the question if possibly a washer and dryer could be in a hallway leading to the garage?? Not necessarily in a "room" but in a hallway.

I just replayed Greta again from last night - there are two external doors to the back yard. The one to the far left viewing from the burial site goes into the garage. Upon entering there is a window to the outside on the left. To the right is an upainted wall (taped and floated) where there could possibly be a small room that may possibly open directly to the house.

"Two external" doors to the back yard?
Well that is certainly something different. Of course I do believe in each state and the envoronmental weather comes into play on what the majority of houses would be built as.
Personally, I haven't heard of, or seen two doors that lead outside to the backyard from a house.

I think it was because if it was in the garage, which is common in a small house, then she may have gone to the garage while it was in the process of being cleaned/painted.

I have lived in two smaller tract-type houses similar to the Laurean's in my life - one had the WD in the garage and one in the hallway of the house. Since the garage isn't usually heated, often the WD being there has to do with the climate. In places without basements like TX, FL, Coastal NC, SC, LA, GA, etc the garage is a common place for the WD. But in places like OK, MO, KS - it gets much colder and the WD kinda has to be inside the house or the garage heated in winter to avoid frozen pipes. As far as doors - ONE house had the access to the backyard ONLY thru the garage, the other had access from the house directly to the patio and NO access from the garage to the backyard.
And NEWER houses, at least here in temperate Texas, and in my BIL's region in Wilmington, NC have MANY doors to the back yard. BIL's custom-built house in NC has like 5 or 6 doors to the backyard - including one door he specially requested that opens from the rear of the garage in the "workshop" area to the backyard. Our last house in Dallas had 4 HUGE doors (2 patio doors, 2 french doors) that opened to the backyard/patio - but none from the garage (garage opened onto driveway on an alley) - access to the backyard was from the driveway thru a gate). Our current house has 5 doors to the backyard from the house and again NO door from the garage to the backyard - here you have to go outside and across the driveway and go thru a gate and down another walkway alongside the house to get to the backyard. Both houses you walk thru the utility room (with the WD) to enter the house from the garage.
I never thought about it till now, but I have never lived in a house my WHOLE LIFE that had both a door from the HOUSE to the backyard and one from the GARAGE into the backyard. The only houses I have seen with both a garage-backyard door and house-backyard door were custom-built or a total remodel.
I think a LOT is dependent on the age of the house, and the climate - I have lived in 6 different states though, and in houses from older small and basic, to new, large and upscale. In my experience only remodeled or custom-built houses have BOTH a garage door to the backyard and doors from the HOUSE to the backyard and only houses in warmer climates and houses built in the 50's -70's have the WD connections in the garage. Later - even in warmer climates, the WD is in the house somewhere.
Just My Experience Tho....
I owned a home now that has the two doors.

It would make sense he used the wheelbarrow to move her body so I don't understand why they would not have taken it in as evidence either. I think that might have been a mistake on their part. We learned in the Peterson case that blood mixed with water still leaves a certain staining, if I recall correctly what Dr. Baden said at one point.
Greta asked Sutherland about the wheelbarrow, and he said they found it toward the back of the backyard and it was already filled with water at that time. Of course, they didnt find it until 1/11, so it could have sat out there in the yard getting rained on for a month.
As greta pointed out last night, the wheelbarrow looked new and still had the Lowes stickers on it.

did anyone notice when the Sheriff was talking to Greta and she asked about Christina, he definitely doubted her innocence? Is there a transcript to read his exact words?
I havent see a transcript yet. Some of greta's interviews have transcripts, but some do not. I dont know how much the court reporters (if that's who they use) charge per page, but it is pretty expensive, so it's possible that Greta doesn't have the budget to afford to have everything transcribed.
anyway, there seems to be no rhyme or reason ..... maybe they wait to see which clips get the most hits and then go ahead and transcribe those before taking the clip off their website?

Has anyone ever had a gnawing thought that won't go away but you don't know what it is?
Well, I've had one for days now and I just realized what it was this morning.
This might have already been discussed or even might be considered trivial.
But, IIRC, the note supposedly left by Maria at the home she was renting from Durham and which Durham found when he got home, supposedly said, (this is not the exact quote but close enough)
"I could not take the Marines any longer."
If you are the writer, wouldn't you have written, "I can't take the Marines any longer?
Can't being in the present tense and could being in the past tense??
That has stuck in my craw, too! (you got the antlers, I got the craw)
Because, as you said, past tense. Maybe somebody else wrote that note and, being in a hurry, used the past tense because they knew Maria was already dead.
Think capture! :behindbar

According to Greta's "Crime Scene Tour" video, it was Sheriff Brown who noticed the shoe as they returned from the backyard to the house. And he immediately called for CSI to come pick it up.

In Greta's interview w/Sutherland, when she was asking him about Christina's demeanor as she was telling her story to the FBI, he alluded to the buriel in the woods that was written in the note by CL was a false statement, and that the one and only place Maria/Gabriella were buried were right in Xtina's own backyard.

I am saying that since it was missed during the first search warrant even if it were laying in plain sight where it was finally found...a defense Atty. would rip it to shreds as evidence in court or keep it completely out of court due to "chain of command" issues etc. It is what I would imagine a good defense Atty. would come up with tho.

Yeah, how could the note describe that particular place? He must have shown her the spot. Plus, wouldn't she notice that there was no blood in that spot? Even if Christina wasn't involved (and I think she was) there must be a point where completely willful ignorance crosses the line into aiding and abetting. I still can't get over the fact that Maria's body must have been in the Laurean house for a day before she was burned/buried.

I don't know how they will ever determine where she was or exactly her time of death. With the condition of the body, it would seem impossible to come up with such information. For all we know, Cesar kept her alive for a period of time and possibly overnight. (If his statement is partially true, he did keep her alive to go buy the bus ticket...at the very least.)

OK, I just saw on another thread that Maria and Cesar used the SAME ATM!! What are the odds??? Can anyone confirm?
14 Dec ATM - I have only seen a grey and blurry pic that looks like Maria, but very fuzzy - anyone see more? Any evidence in her actions in the video that Cesar might have been with her? Was she looking over her shoulders, etc? Could be some truth in his story that he took her to the bus station. Still a very short timeline for the kill and clean-up.
However, a devil's advocate might note that one would only have to do minor clean-up in a 1-car garage that appeared to be FULL of junk. Assume blood in LR was likely trace amount from him walking in to clean himself up? Just would have to cover and hide her body, get rid of his clothes (not sure about those shoes), and keep wife out of garage - did not appear to be any wify sort of things in the garage. Devil's advocate also could say that the square paint-over in the garage was thought by Xtina to be a sample for her to approve the color for the LR - my wife and I have done this before.
Still he would have had to drag body out, dig hole, pull-down fence sections (were any already loose/down?), bury Maria, then set-up burn pit and let burn for hours, convince wife of need to start painting - all without wife knowing anything (???) Hmmmm... Of course the nosy neighbor did not note anything unnusual until reflecting on events after the police and media descended upon them.

Since Cesar seemingly is going to walk on the DP, I hate the thought that Christina could possibly be involved with this murder and walk for giving LE false information and covering for him to allow his escape. It makes me ill to think this is what is going on.

The more I've puzzled over this case, the more convinced I've become that she was involved. The only possible explanation I can come up with as to why LE hasn't arrested her, is that they want her as a cooperative witness when it comes time for a trial. Although, it's beyond me why they'd need her ... the evidence that CL killed Maria is overwhelming.

Sadly, that's what i am afraid of. I wish LE could arrest Xtina and use her to draw POS out of hiding. If he says he loves her and their daughter so much and misses them and all, maybe LE could use Xtina as a means of getting to him ?
Although I wouldn't be surprised if he already is on the lookout for Xtina's replacement in Guadalajara.......in which case he won't give a rip about her being arrested and taking his place.
I just want justice for Maria and her baby.

OK, not that I believe it, but here's a thought...
At least one source noted two seperate bus tic purchases (14th by Laurean and 15th by Maria). Likely this was a goof in the report, but if there were two tics...
What if Xtina was killer (with or w/o CL) and she planned to flee on 15th, but hubby said I took care of it only to flee himself and take blame away from Xtina when things got hot in Jan. ?

They definitely had to, to make a deal. If he is ever found, she will have to testify, we can only hope!

Does anyone know if the Enquirer has written anything about this case ? The reason I ask is because if anyone could find a photo of Xtina it is them. I also ask this because we don't get the Enquirer down here so that is why I am curious.
I hope someone gets Xtina's face out in the news soon. Give Greta or Nancy a shot at interrogating her... :bang:

I don't know about the Enquirer, but will buy one today and look through it. I know they did one for DP with one of his friends.
I am beginning to think the reason we haven't found a pic or hear anything about Christina, is because her father has squealched everything. He does have the power and the means, IMO.

I think Christina is lawyered up and her attorney is doing his job.
As I said before, the media can't publish pictures of private people against their expressed wishes. If someone finds a previously published picture, that would be fair game.
My opinion.

So, wouldn't a DMV license photo be fair game? Somehow there is a bit of a close-down on her pics. Surely *someone* can access DMV photos...:waitasec:

Gee last time I checked. The LE does not release a Pic of someone unless they have a reason to.Since this happened on the 11th over two weeks ago I gues they have no cause to realease the pic. But I am sure they showed her picture to the guy at the bus station.Guess he said it was not her.

Not only the bus clerk, but The Early Show knew what she looked like, but blurred the photos as she had/has not been implicated.

Probably illegal. Of course, if you can kill people and bury them in your yard there, whats a little bit of bird watching?

Even through the blur you can tell she resembles her sister. I think she is more heavy set though. And CL don't look too thrilled to be next to his wifey's side in any of the pics.. how sad. o/t.. has anyone heard yet about the DNA of the baby? I wonder if they know by now and are just keeping it quiet? Also if it does turn out to be CL's baby I wonder if the guilt of killing his own baby girl will haunt him for the rest of his sorry life?!

Tks for the pic's.....How in the world did you find them?
As for the hubby, my gut feeling he had no feelings for the unborn child.
It won't bother him a bit, sad to say.

I also agree that she is what I would call "big muscled" for a female. Chunky would be the most apt description. The size of her arms are in apportion with her "regular" weight, IMO.
Her pics don't show any "fingernails", so she wasn't one to file and put on nail polish.

She looked pretty "squashy" in the arms for a Marine. Now that she's been activated, I see lots of PT in her future. I hope it takes place in the exercise yard at a brig.

Ahahaha you guys are crazy! It's not that I would say she looks obese or anything but just a big healthy girl... Not the dainty feminine type.. Maria was very athletic if you looked at alot of her pics she was into all kinds of sports yet to me she still looked very 'girly'..
Littledeer
01-29-2008, 12:05 PM
It was Maria's blond hair and the smile that made her look "girly", it distracted away from her muscular build IMO.
Also, the main picture we have been seeing is where she is out of uniform. But in the pics where she is in uniform, she does also look on the athletic side. Christina just looks "big" in her pics.
