The mother of a teenager whose death is under investigation is missing from her Elk Rapids home.

Anne Avery-Miller, 37, is missing from her 914 South U.S. 31 house, Elk Rapids Police Chief Michael Miles said. She was last seen Monday at the residence, where she runs a barber shop.

Avery-Miller's mother arrived there Tuesday evening and found the back door open. Most of Avery-Miller's belongings, including her cell phone, car, purse and more were at the residence, but Avery-Miller wasn't found.

"The residence has been searched and re-searched, and we're continuing to search," Miles said Wednesday morning. "As far as we can tell she's not in the house."

Authorities are probing the death of Avery-Miller's son, Sam Avery, 16, who was found dead of a gunshot wound inside the house on Nov. 7.

Antrim County officials hope the FBI will help find a missing Elk Rapids woman after a judge revoked her bond in a pending felony assault case.

Circuit Judge Thomas G. Power granted a motion Friday by Antrim County Prosecutor Charles Koop to revoke Anne Avery-Miller's bond and issue a warrant for her arrest.

Her mother reported Avery-Miller missing on Jan. 22. Authorities continue to investigate the death of Avery-Miller's son, Sam Avery, who was found dead of a gunshot wound Nov. 7.

They still don't know if the wound was self-inflicted or caused by someone else, Koop said. Forensic tests are pending in that investigation.

Koop's office plans to ask the FBI to seek a federal fugitive warrant for Avery-Miller because she's absconding bond, he said.

Federal involvement would allow authorities to search outside Michigan, Koop said.

Authorities charged Avery-Miller in October with assault with a dangerous weapon after she allegedly tried to hit a man with her car. A jury trial was set for Feb. 6, but Power adjourned the trial until Avery-Miller is found.

Police: Avery-Miller probably left town
She allegedly told friend 'This town ... sucks' before leaving

ELK RAPIDS -- Local authorities released details in the disappearance of an Elk Rapids woman in an effort to generate new leads.
Investigators believe Anne Avery-Miller, 37, likely borrowed a laptop computer from a friend, then left town in a red 1994 Ford Escort she purchased for cash about a month before her disappearance.
Avery-Miller's mother reported the woman missing from her home Jan. 22.
"There were no signs of foul play at the residence. The more probable right now is she went missing voluntarily," Elk Rapids Police Chief Michael Miles said.
