Police are searching for a 13-year-old girl they say is probably with a 31-year old man.
Karla Torres was reported missing Jan. 8.
“Ms. Torres is believed to be in the company of Jose Martinez,” a police memo said.
Karla is a student at Denison Middle School. She is 4 feet, 11 inches tall with waist-length brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a purple
Denison T-shirt with a white undershirt, blue jeans, and black-and-white sneakers.
Police said there is no description of Martinez so far available because he has such a common name.
But he drives a Mustang with the word MUSTANG written beneath each of its two doors.
Police Capt. Lisa Albury said the department has not issued an Amber Alert for Torres because there is no indication that she was abducted by Martinez.
Amber Alerts must meet a “believed to be in danger” criteria.
Police said Karla could be anywhere, including still in Winter Haven.
Karla was last seen at home, 621 Ave. P S.W.
Anyone with information as to the about where Torres might be is asked to contact
Detective Amity McGee of the Winter Haven Police Department at 863-291-5312 or the police Tip Line at 863-291-5699.

Then where did they get the information she "may be" in the company of this 31yo man? Anytime a 13yo is missing and believed to be with a 31yo man who has no permission to have her...would seem to me to be in a dangerous situation.

Of course I don't know where they got the info, but I agree with what you said about the situation being dangerous.

Apparently the guy lived next door to the family, he kept comming over to visit the daughter and made some advances that the daughter resisted. An exerpt from a story. http://www.theledger.com/article/20080131/NEWS/801310469/1004
"Carlos Torres said his daughter tried to resist the advances of Martinez, who was living next door to the family, but she apparently weakened. He said Martinez used to come over to visit his daughter in the morning after he and his wife went to work, by 6.a.m., and before Karla left for school.
The morning she disappeared, a Tuesday, Karla never got on the school bus. Her mother said that was odd because Karla is a good student who never missed school."
Why didnt they stop this man from coming over if they knew he was interested in their daughter I dont understand this.

A 13 year old girl should not be left alone with a 31 year old man. The family seemed to know about this situation as well. This is in definite need of an Amber alert. She is just a mere child. Prayers to the family from the Orient.

The 13-year-old girl who police say was abducted in January by a 31-year-old man who lived next door has not returned home. "We have sufficient evidence to believe she's alive," Winter Haven police Capt. Lisa Albury said.
Karla Torres was reported missing Jan. 8 from her home on Avenue P Southwest.
She is thought to have left with Jose Martinez.
Karla's family describes Martinez as about 5 feet, 5 inches tall with a very slight build, no visible scars or tattoos and light brown hair.
He drives a Ford Mustang.
Albury said she could not provide details, but urged anyone with information to call 863-291-5858.

Responsible parents just don't let their 13 yr old be 'visited' by a 31 yr old under any circumstances but to know and LET it happen when they are not home is just ridiculous. I'm guessing they had begun a sexual relationship, they parents sure made it easy enough for them, and he persuaded her to run away with him. No doubt the poor girl is regretting her decision and it isn't like she has real great role-models to base hre decisions off of. Hopefully everything will turn out safely and they ALL learn a few things from this.

It's been a while since Karla was found, but here is quite a bit of info on her case and what happened:
Winter Haven Girl Missing Two Years Found After Her Pictures Posted at Walmart
Winter Haven detectives last month found a teenage girl who's been missing for two years after she ran away with a 33-year-old neighbor.
Karla Torres, who was 13 at the time, was found after someone spotted her picture on a missing children's bulletin board at a Walmart in Harrodsburg, Ky.
[snip]
"When they (Harrodsburg authorities) recovered her, she had a 1-year-old child," McGee said.
